Spice Level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️/5

So I've been stuck in low-spice jail, when all I wanted was something "Dark and Dirty". Everything I was reading was 3 MAX, so it's been "a while" for your girl...to experience something a little more raunchy and steamy. This is not a full 5 as it has a very good balance of plot, that is not overshadowed by the sexiness.

If you want something that is going to give you toe-curling, eye-rolling, fast-heartbeat excitement while reading, this is definitely the book for you! It basically kept me in a constant state of being turned on, but anxious at the same time. There is just this perfect balance of drama and sexual tension that I could not put this down. I wanted to inhale it!

This book follows Nicole (But we will call her Cole since she hates her full name). She almost has the perfect "picket fence" life. She is in a relationship with her highly religious rich boyfriend and it all seems like a dream. One day he comes home without having a conversation with his girlfriend and says: "By the way, we have a new roommate who is going to be living with us. He is also an ex-convict". In walks Cameron Hawke, a man covered from head-to-toe in tattoos with a sexy little lip ring. Cole's initial judgment of him kind of matches the "cover".

Basically, this plays into the cliche of "Don't judge a book by its cover", as what unfurls from both their perspectives is Cameron judges Cole believing she was just another stuck-up prissy princess. Cole judged Cam thinking he was a drug-addled junkie. But as they start to connect, spend time with each other and unravel who each of them are they both realize that they have judged too quickly, and the person behind the cover is everything that the other needs and everything that brings out who they truly meant to be as a person. The connection between them was intense, insane, and just really captivating.

Jescie Hall did something in her book that I always appreciate when an author does it. She explains her character behaviour choices in the writing as part of the plot. This has a way to motivate why certain choices were made and that they are there for THAT SPECIFIC REASON.

Two instances this stood out were:
1. How judgemental Cole is at the start. This annoyed me about her where you see her inner dialogue that she is extremely unfair to Cam based on her perception of his character. But he calls her out on her shit and once she realises she has been unfair, changes.
2. In the beginning I thought she was ungrateful because she had so much. She had a house, she had a boyfriend that loved her and looked after her. I disliked her for developing feelings for Cam as she was hurting Patrick. But as more and more of her current relationship dynamic is unpacked, you realize that she's pretty justified. Her perfect life is not as perfect as it seems.

Patrick is very much a gaslighting, emotionally abusive prick. Due to his domineering personality and the way that he would just shut her down and not give her her own voice to speak, I kind of appreciated that she wasn't going to be with him. The manipulation and how he made her feel like she was the problem or the issue really frustrated me! However how this is handled and how Cole grows to stand up to him and just stand up for herself is what makes this book stand out.

It was quite emotional and fun at the same time. This will not be the last Jescie Hall book I will read. I just want to thank Heather for recommending this to me to scratch the "Dark and Dirty Itch". It gave me exactly what I needed when I needed it!

So if you want:
 SPICY
 "Enemies" to Lovers
 Forced Proximity
 Instalust but also Slow Burn
 Touch her you die
He's broken so she needs to fix him

This is the book for you. Just like it was the book for me!

Note: Let me say, this is the first book that I have read that has a major focus on the "cheating trope". I, however, stand by, just because I read about it- doesn't mean that I will do it in my real life. I am separating my own IRL morals and just enjoying the content for what it is. If you don't like that trope or it bothers you and is a hard trigger, I would not recommend this book because it's not really going to give you what you need.

Smashed that dnf button.

In case you (anyone reading this review) need help working this out in the first 10%, he may or may not have a lip ring? I'm only speculating though after reading about this stupid fucking lip ring 45782 times in the first 48 pages.

The dialogue was cringy and m/f just isn't my jam 99% of the time anyway so I was struggling. Plus this book is all about cheating which made me feel icky from the start even if it's 'done right'. The FMC is irrationally pissed off and rude to her "new housemate" who she's obviously very sexually attracted to, but she just straight up awful in general??

Basing my opinion off 14% though I guess which is rough, but I choose violence and raw dogging my feelings in 2024 and plan on dnf-ing every book that I dislike because I ain't sitting through 7.5 hours of BS because I'm being too stubborn to drop a crap book lol <3

Also the word "member" is so unnecessary.

The way I ignored all responsibilities today and finished this in one sitting. This book wrecked me. 🥹

I truly cannot explain the emotion I felt in the book. This is my first Jescie Hall book and I am now so eager to read more because her writing was so REAL.

There were so many parts in this book that just hit me.. hard. As someone who went through similar experiences in my past, I felt so many emotions reading this. It was everything and more and it will forever be one of my favorite romance books ever.

Memorable moments:

“Wreck me, shatter me, destroy me, be the ruin of me. I don’t care, just make me feel again.

“Every second with you makes me need another.

“Lie to me, Cole. Tell me you hate me.

“You, my love, are the only habit worth being addicted to.

I am in the minority here because there are many great reviews about this story, but Hawke doesn't work for me at all. I don't how old the heroine is but her judgmental behavior doesn't sit well with me. She sounds very immature, I don't like being in her head at all. He assumptions tire me.
The storytelling sounds wrong, repetitive. The tone oscillates between childish at times, and pompous the rest of the time, giving the impression the author tried too hard. It doesn't flow, and I'm stopping the experience.
"He smells so fresh, and oozes sexuality out of his pores like a new, exquisite fragrance."

3,5/5

I normally hate the cheating trope but for them I’ll make an exception lol. While this book is far from being good or perfection, I still enjoyed it! It was very entertaining and there was never a boring moment whatsoever! It felt like watching a reality tv show lmao.

The reasons why I didn’t really enjoy this book is first of the repetitive back and forth between the fmc and mmc and the hesitation of breaking up with the fmc’s bf. Like I get you’re torn, guilty and whatnot but it was just getting old after the 50% mark lol.

The fmc was also very annoying at times. She was very judgmental in the beginning but she improved on that aspect very much towards the ending, which pretty much made her redeemable to me!! But tbh her character was kinda superficial.. like there was no depth to her besides having a sister who somehow never got mentioned again after the 50% mark.

Patrick was also so fucking annoying and very much the biggest piece of shit. Hate that I ever felt just even an ounce of remorse for him. Wish they would’ve gotten rid of him earlier but I get why they didn’t. He was very significant for the plot after-all.

Regarding the plot, it was so freaking entertaining and the end had me on the edge of my seat!! The plot twist is something I stupidly did NOT expect (even though I think I should have lol). It was very well paced and really attention-grabbing in my opinion!!

Finding out about why Hawke went to jail was just so freaking well involved into the plot and into his and Cole’s relationship!! It truly was a rollercoaster!

I in general also very much enjoyed their relationship dynamics!! They had so much chemistry and tension since pretty much the beginning and it literally had be awing, giggling and squealing!! They were just cute together but also sooooo hot oml Their smut scenes were pretty much the highlight of this book. Loved them!!

But I also LOVE Hawke!! His backstory freaking broke my heart. He’s literally such a sweet soul and I love his personality and character so so much!! He deserves the whole world and more! Glad he got justice at the end cause that is what he deserved since the beginning of the book.

Overall, this was a nice wattpady cleanse after all this dark romance I’ve been reading recently and I do recommend this book even though it has the cheating trope in it. It’s still pretty neat to me lol.

Ya know, I was REEEEEEALLY enjoying this book right up until about 65%ish I just felt like there needed to be a resolve a little quicker. The plot twist was incredibly predictable and the ending fell a little flat for me.

However, the spice was spicing and the only reason this got bumped up from a 3.5 star rating to a 4 star rating was because of that bonus chapter 🥵🥵

The way I’ve never been so irritated by my migraines before(I have, many times). I had to put the book down. My head betrayed me. I was hooked from chapter one and did not feel like taking a break. I’m dealing with real issues, I know.*note the sarcasm*

There’s a burglary.. or something going on in Nicole’s house. She calls 911.
She calls 911 on her just-released-from-prison-surprise-roommate.

While Cole(h) & Cam’s(H) first meeting might not have been ideal, their instant(-ish) connection was undeniable. The sexual tension!! When they finally gave in fully!! The love was palpable between those two. There wasn’t all that much debth to the story but I loved it and I loved them. They are tbh a bit annoying at times in the beginning, communication was not a skill of theirs. It did make it feel more emotional and real though so it’s fine.

(Spoiler at the end of review: ow and cheating info)

Nicole (Cole):
If no one is around to wine and dine me, I’ll take myself out on a date. I deserve it.She did in fact deserve that and so much more, she was just slow with coming to that realization. I feel like she was ”in love with Patrick(bf) a little too far in and she let him treat her poorly for too long but I really liked her otherwise. Loved her with Cam.

Cameron (Cam, Hawke):

Maybe people just don’t know how to take a guy like Hawke. The rough exterior is barricading the kind heart inside. The guy with a lip ring.. which is pointed out an insane amount of times. And tattoos. He’s hot.

”Tell me you love me, “It’s okay if you don’t...you don’t have to mean it. I just want to hear you say it. Sweetest and most purehearted guy ever. He deserves everything. Other than fucking people left and right, he had no flaws. I just wish we could have gotten at least some chapters from his pov. I loved him so much and really wanted to see what was going on in that head of his.

Cam & Cole:

He looks up at me with the kind of respect you’d give a queen that was holding a knife to your neck. He knows I could kill him with one cut; end him beautifully with the vulnerability he’s offering, but admires my power over him nonetheless.

”You’re the kind of guy devils tell angels to go talk to to get them to fall, not knowing you’re the type to save them from the depths of Hell they’ve surrendered themselves to.

”Wreck me, shatter me, destroy me, be the ruin of me. I don’t care, just make me feel again,

”Let me own you,”“Trust me, baby, you do.

I just love heroes who would do anything and everything for their girl. I very much enjoyed their journey to lovers. Those two are soulmates frfr.

»If ow (inc. random fucks, several of them) and cheating(not between mc’s) bothers you, I would not recommend this book.
- Their last fucking sessions with others is 31% in(H with random girl. h with her bf)
- h’s boyfriend fingers her in front of H 41% in

This book was such a m*ndfuck because the behaviour is morally questionable and you know it’s wrong…but at the same time, it convinces you to believe that it is 90% justified. Even while I’m writing this I’m thinking about how her boyfriend was terrible (he was) and he definitely didn’t deserve her.

For a bit of background, Nicole and her boyfriend Patrick have been in a relationship for years and live together, before they get an unexpected roommate. Unexpected to Nicole, Patrick knew all about it…This new roommate causes a chain reaction of events that no one saw coming.

Hawke's intro into the book wouldn’t be my first choice, but it was a choice and cemented his player status. As a character though, he was more than that reputation. He was dark and mysterious, but also a bad boy with a heart of gold (in a non-cliche way).

The main characters gravitate towards each other, despite knowing that they should and could not be together. Needless to say, I was invested in the premise. However, they didn’t always seem like they were necessarily right together. Nicole couldn’t make up her mind a lot of the time and in turn, Hawke would go into self-destructive mode and drink it all away. His past trauma definitely didn’t help his mindset.

At the same time, they also seemed perfect together. See I don’t know what to think 😩 The tension, the angst, the longing it just worked !!! They were like magnets. Hawks also gave Nicole all the things Patrick did not.

Patrick would discount her feelings, didn’t appreciate her, frequently told her how lucky she was to have him and made her aware that his career (and life) was more important than hers. Nicole craved his attention and validation because she made him her whole world.

I did find myself looking for things that Patrick was doing wrong to justify her behaviour, which is bad, but he also provided a lot of examples. Ultimately this man turned out to be the biggest d*ckhead ever, so don’t need to feel too bad for him if you’re reluctant about reading the cheating trope.

Now going from reading a relationship with limited affection to one with limitless affection was interesting and a little much. I like a simp MMC as much as the next person, but it got too gushy.

‘We freed each other, Hawke and now it’s our time to fly
Yeah there were lots of lines like that …

I mean I appreciated the tension leading up to them getting together, but when they finally decided to commit to each other, it was all too intense. The constant reassurance was overwhelming and pretty repetitive. Also, the spice scenes felt overdone and were being used to end a conversation and drag out the mystery plotline that was happening.

The first 50% was 5 stars and the last 50% was more like a 2 for me, so we are meeting in the middle.

Nope. Pass. 🤣 YA, fade to black. See kindle highlights. Seriously in need of hard editing.

Hit my worst read of the year.

“My eyes find Hawke in the kitchen where I see him talking to Kid again. The woman’s legs are still wrapped around his skinny waist on the couch, her mouth on his tatted neck while he talks to Hawke.

The above, the couch in the kitchen 🤷‍♀ pretty much sums up how much sense this makes overall.

Word choice, repetition and fillers reinforced my fear the synopsis was an indication of quality. If you’re looking for YA style writing, fairly simple and familiar plot, fade to black paragraph $ex scenes, it might be your style.

Nic is shallow, self centered, judgmental, lacks any character depth. Everything she does is told, or inner monologue. Whiny and critical of Patrick, his body, family, everything about him.

Predictably, Nicole cheats on her boyfriend with his ‘bad boy live-in, ex-con friend, Hawke. Heck, he’s wearing grey sweatpants after all 🤣

Transitions from Wattpad have increased recently. Plot, continuity, all of the basics need work. In desperate need of editing and polish.

I’d honestly hoped the hype on social media was credible and justified. It’s anti religion, cliche, NA with fade to black, and overly wordy. 🥱

Harsh as it sounds, this is bad even for wattpad. See kindle quote highlights on GR.

3.75 -4 stars

“You’re the kind of guy devils tell angels to go talk to to get them to fall, not knowing you’re the type to save them from the depths of Hell they’ve surrendered themselves to.

Picture this: you're living with your boyfriend, doing your thing, and out of the blue, he's like, "Surprise, I got you a roommate!"🤨 And guess what? This roommate just got out of prison, and he's a total hottie. But here's the kicker, your boyfriend is suddenly MIA all the time

Listen up, my friend! If you're not into the whole cheating thing, this book might not be your jam. I mean, her boyfriend? Total spineless and unlikeable. And brace yourself, because the cheating continues for a whopping 75% of the book! It's quite a ride, I must say!

My rating is for the ✨VIBES alone. As I was very entertained😏 and I ate up it🍽️

Nicole aka cole- she had me all kinds of frustrated. It felt like she had no legit reason to stick with her boyfriend while she was out there cheating on him.If it was any other book, I would probably despise the cheating trope, but with this one, it didn't bother me as much. However, what really got to me was that she could've ended things with her boyfriend way earlier. It's like she was prolonging the inevitable.Nicole's boyfriend (Patrick), let's just say, is a real piece of work. It's frustrating how he shuts her down and doesn't let her have her own voice. The way he manipulated her and made her feel like she was the problem really got under my skin! Nicole's growth in standing up for herself. It's empowering to see her find her voice and take a stand against him.

“Love. It finds its way like a weed growing through the cracks of cement meant to hold it out. It’s determined to show its beautiful self, even in the midst of the darkness surrounding it. Crazy things happen because of love, unimaginable things that seem too rare to be purely coincidence.

Hawke - I realized just how lovable he truly is.There's just something about a troubled, sweet-hearted bad boy that makes our hearts go crazy, right? It's like we can't help but melt for them every time. He's on a whole other level. Even with all the edginess surrounding him, it didn't bother me. If anything, it made me love him even more because he deserves all the love and happiness in the world.Hawke really knows how to make Nicole feel loved and cared for. I mean, he went all out by getting her favorite snacks and setting up a cozy movie night in the living room. It's those thoughtful gestures that make all the difference after a hard day's work. It's moments like these that make their bond even more special🥺 What I really adored about the book was how it taught me not to judge a book by its cover. At first, I found myself making judgments about Hawke, but as the story unfolded, I realized I shouldn't have. He had been through so much, and it really opened my eyes.

“Wreck me, shatter me, destroy me, be the ruin of me. I don't care, just make me feel again.

The tension and chemistry between Nicole and Hawke was 🥵. If you're a fan of complex bad boys with hidden depths and unconventional love stories this book is definitely for you!

Five perfect stars for Cameron Hawke 🤭🔥👏🏻

I absolutely fucking loved this book and I probably would’ve finished it in one sitting if I had the time. This was one of those books that completely sucked me in and I totally forgot I was reading, like I didn’t check my phone for hours😂😂

Jescie Hall continues to blow me away with her books, from the beautiful way she tells a story, to the plot that always falls together perfectly & the spice that never feels over done( the car and the motorcycle scene were two of my favorites 🥵🥵)

The sneaking around and the tension in this book was fucking giving me life. The chemistry and connection between Cameron and Cole had me melting. You could tell that these two people were destined to be together & I loved how deep their relationship went. The way they were exactly what each other needed and deserved. They protected, opened up and leaned on each other 🥹two souls totally intertwined.

And Hawke, the man that you are!!! He had me from gate, it’s always the ones with the bad boy exterior, that are so soft and mushy on the inside. He was everything

And Cole with the hook!? Okay queen you did what we all wanted to do👏🏻👏🏻 my feminine rage was rattling every single time Patrick’s dumbass opened his fucking mouth👊🏻

This will be one of those books that I forever recommend, this had my full attention from start to finish and I’m so mad at myself for putting it off for so long. This one was DEEP and it really made me feel all the feelings. Absolutely adored it

“I’ll never lose you in the madness

2.75⭐️ 3.5🌶 (I feel 3 stars is generous)

If you love this book I’m sorry & if you don’t like negative reviews I’m sorry 😂

Firstly, I WISH this was dual pov 😩 I think it was really lacking a second pov from Hawke tbh

Secondly, why was this sooo slow, sooo repetitive for literally 80%, same day on repeat at the house, and so smut driven and sex obsessed. Every thought was sex, sex, sex- then everything happens in the blink of an eye in the last 20%.
The pacing of this book was not good. Had the story developed at a better pace I think I would’ve connected to the characters more, but I honestly didn’t care what happened to anyone in this to be quite honest, I hated Patrick he was a walking ick (obviously intentional) but because the story doesn’t unfold for so long, Patrick’s character was just insufferable but I didn’t actually find myself wanting anything happen?! Or being invested in his character getting what he deserved.

The big ‘twist was so drawn out that when I finally got there, I was just relieved to be nearing the end of the book and get some kind of plot, so I wasn’t even connected to that aspect of the story either..

I didn’t even mind the cheating, I knew what I was getting myself into but it was all poorly executed 🤷🏽‍♀

The writing was okay, no massive issues there, I felt like the book really came into its own at the end but it just took way too long to get there, lots of spice which was pretty good but I need a stronger more engaging plot for majority of the book with my smut 😂

I dunno, it just feels meh, I will say I read this after rating 3 out of 5 books in a series 5 stars so potentially slumping slightly, but if the book was good then I’d have felt like it was at least a 3/3.5⭐️ read 😅

Did I read a whole book about cheating.. Yes, I did. Was it honestly so much more than that? Yesss!
I'm having a hard time writing a review that does this justice. I know the cheating was wrong, but it felt SO right at the same time. God, I can't believe I'm saying that 😂
Hawke and Cole were made for each other. Soulmates 💓 and Patrick was literally the scum of the Earth. 🤢
I found the writing style suited me perfectly, Jescie's ability to tell a moving story was top teir. The romance and spice *chefs kiss*
I'm picking up Kid directly after this because I deserpately need to know his story.

“Wreck me, shatter me, destroy me, be the ruin of me. I don’t care, just make me feel again, he whispers against my lips.

hawke had me from the beginning. i always love a tortured soul. he is a sweet, bad boy that softened sooo fast for our fmc; while still maintaining that in-control, overprotective nature we love in our mmc’s. hawke is a big fan of intimate physical touch like holding hands, kissing fingers, forehead touching, cuddling, all that cute stuff. but there is plenty of spice in this one as well i almost became a motorcycle girl, iykyk.

He looks up at me with the kind of respect you'd give a queen that was holding a knife to your neck.

The way his body drapes over mine, his head on my chest, his arms wrapped around me, is heartwarming and heartbreaking in the same sense. This broken, sweet man clings to me even in his dreams.

It's almost like our own personal handshake, our forehead hugs. It's intimate; connecting us in our own little world, even if only for a moment.

okay, enough quotes. fine, i’ll talk about the fmc now. her name is nicole, but do not call her that (for a reason that is explained in the book). it is either nic or cole (depends if you’re her boyfriend or hawke). she was not my favorite, and not even because she is the cheater. she was super hypocritical which it made it hard for me to warm up to her. she does come through for hawke in the end and turns out to be the ride or die that he deserves.

Not the kind of love that’s expected or planned, but the wild, uninhibited kind. The kind you deny and deny until it slaps you in the face and tells you your truth.

i did guess the big twist just from foreshadowing and pattern recognition, however, the plot was suspenseful and engaging regardless. the ending was pure poetic justice. definitely recommend if you’re into dark romance and can tolerate the cheating trope when it is done right!

We continue down our dark road together, sinking further into the shadows of our desires, all while the fogged-up 'we just fucked' car cruises through this small, intolerant town.

Edited 1/7/24 to review the audiobook version:

🎧 Audiobook Review 🎧

Narrators: Avery Caris and Joe Arden
Narration Style: Duet
Length: 13 hr 8 min
Listening Speed: 1.15x

The audiobook is finally here, and wow! It was my first time listening to Avery and I really, really liked her voice for Cole’s character. I felt like she really embodied the role. Avery really shined in this book because the entire book is told from Cole’s POV. However, not to worry audiobook fans, Hawke’s voice was performed by a male audiobook narrator, and by none other than Joe Arden. There was a very specific kitchen scene I wanted to listen to, and when I heard it, man - it did NOT disappoint! 😍👏🏻

Definitely give this one a listen. I loved it so much!

ORIGINAL REVIEW:

This is Jescie’s debut published novel, but Jescie is an experienced writer, and it absolutely shines through in Hawke. Hawke is a book that has themes of:

🪶 Cheating 👀
🪶 Forced proximity
🪶 Spicy (Ma’am, that bonus chapter?!)
🪶 Forbidden romance

Nicole (Nic) is an aspiring writer and in a long-term relationship with her boyfriend, Patrick. Unbeknownst to her, she hears a man in the bedroom next to her that has broken into her home a man with Patrick. Naturally, she panics and calls the police to deal with the situation. Hawke, an ex-con, did not appreciate that. Hawke is especially put out since he is a new roommate (that Patrick failed to tell Nic about) and the incident sets Hawke and Nicole off on the wrong foot. Nic has to navigate this new living situation at home with this new roommate, especially with Patrick gone frequently on work trips for his father’s company. Join Nicole on her journey to expose who this “Hawke guy truly is, and in turn, discover her true self in the process.

I adore Jescie’s poetic writing style. She is so descriptive with every scene, and I can always see what is going on and paint a clear picture in my mind of the scene playing out. I have read every single one of her books, and I won’t stop staring her stories. ❤️

Available on Kindle and paperback.

Arc provided for an honest review. However, I’ve already read the book twice before applying for the arc, so it was an easy decision for me, and I adored the re-read!

Im actually really disappointed i didnt like this . It actually put me in a bad mood.

If you have a lame ass vanilla boyfriend and u fantasize about getting a new roommate and constantly cheating but not having the balls to idk .. leave him? U probably will love this one

Unfortunately for me i couldn’t enjoy the drama because the fmc was insufferable and the writing was not great, it was like a teenager wrote this.

What i hated: She constantly cheats (not justifiably whatsoever) and then whenever her bf came home she would continue her relationship right in front of Hawke & act like Hawke never happened. At the same time she got jealous if Hawke ever even spoke to another girl???? It made no sense why she needed to stay with the loser. Just say “its over 🤨

It also made no sense why they even like eachother other than physical attraction. She doesnt know him at all. I’ve known him for two weeks. He wouldn’t do something like that! Headass

5/5 stars

This is my first book by Jescie Hall and I absolutely devoured it in one day. A friend on my bookstagram account recommended this book to me. And I am so glad she did! This book is hot, sexy and it kept me captivated from the first page onwards.

This book is the story of Hawke (Cam) and Nicole (Cole).
Nicole is living with her boyfriend Patrick. She longs for a deeper connection with him. But anything she tries seems to fail.
One day Patrick tells her his friend Hawke is moving in with them. He just came out of jail and needs a place to stay.

Nicole is not happy with this development and at first is very judgemental of Hawke. But right from the first moment their eyes connect something starts to simmer between them.
Their sexual chemistry was so palpable and so hot throughout the book. But it's not just sex between them. They speak each other's language and they crave being in each other's presence.

This is not just a simple girl cheats on boyfriend and falls for the bad guy book. I think Jescie did a brilliant job by hiding clues right from the first chapter into the book that tells us the story of who Patrick really is. How he tries to manipulate Nicole. How he forces his way.
Not that that excuses Cole's or Hawke's behaviour. But I totally fell away in their romance and their blazingly hot connection.

My heart broke for Hawke. I loved it when he became Cam. But his pain is painted so vividly on his face. I loved that. And even though it took Cole maybe a tad too long to dump Patrick. I loved her compassion for Hawke. And I loved her trust in him and into his character.

I know Kid has his own book as well. So I paid extra attention to him. And his pain and issues are very vivid as well. I cannot wait to read his story and see where that takes him.

At the end of the book was a bonus chapter. The author took it out for it being too spicy. Jescie! Things are NEVER too spicy!!! Next time just add it into the story. I loved it! It got me all hot and bothered and it was just bloody brilliant! So never take anything like that out again. It was so clear and I just heard all the noises inside of my head. Love, love, loved it!

5 big stars for this wonderfully hot and erotic novel!

It's been a while since I've read a romance book with cheating, and I remember why I dislike it so much.

Cole is extremely frustrating as a character. It's very obvious she's unhappy in the relationship, and yet continues to cheat on her partner, Patrick and string a long Hawke. In the end, she's hurting two people because she can't be bothered to have a difficult conversation.

Patrick sucks, there's not doubt about that, but before his true colours are revealed she should have cut ties. Instead, he'd be like "not now, babe" and she'd be like "oh, darn it, fine" and then cuddle up and sleep with him where Hawke would discover them cuddled up together.

This book got four stars for the smut and Hawke! Because HOT DAMN.

This book is the definition of toxic! Avoid if you dislike cheating!

I need to stop getting my recs off of tiktok. This felt entirely too long and drawn out. I wanted to stop reading it by the time I reached the last hundred pages. I was so tired of the MC talking about how special their love was, how it was built from the ground up and the kind of story told in books BLAH BLAH BLAH. Also, the author jumped through the timeline in the most RANDOM places. One minute, you’re reading a spicy scene, and the LITERAL next line (NO WARNING) is taking place a whole month later. Make it make sense.

Side eyeing every person who rated this highly there is only so long you can act like a victim in your current relationship after continuously cheating (and not trying very hard to separate from your awful boyfriend) very unlikable MFC, I could not support her after the 50% mark of this book
