Diana: A Tribute to the People's Princess

Rate this book
To all outward appearances, the Honourable Diana Frances Spencer--daughter of the eighth Earl Spencer, childhood playmate of royal children--was born with the proverbial silver spoon in her mouth. Yet the reality was very different, for Diana's childhood was an unhappy one. And when, like a fairy tale, she was transformed (in her own words) from 'a nobody' to become one of the most public figures in the land, before long appearances again proved to be deceptive: her marriage to the Prince of Wales was to end in recrimination and unhappiness.

Yet Diana was to recover from adversity to capture the hearts of people all over the world. And that triumph owed nothing to wealth or power or title, and everything to qualities that lay within--qualities for which she was universally adored: an innate ability to understand, and empathise with, ordinary people, but especially with the sick, the rejected, the 'unloved'.

With six chapters and over 215 colour and black-and-white photographs--many previously unpublished in book form--and with a lively text by leading author Peter Donnelly, this book tells the remarkable story of Diana's flowering into 'The People's Princess' and in doing so pays homage to that 'innate nobility' that we all came to love and respect.

I love Princess Diana - she has been a role model in my life since I was a little girl. Her story truly touches people's hearts. I will never stop reading stories of her beautiful life and this one was wonderful. I didn't give it the full five stars only because this book was very generic and a little bit too sad. Her life is something to be celebrated. While she endured her own tragedies, she spoke to the people, she loved people and she devoted her life to helping people. We miss you, Princess Diana.

Looking over this book again I was reminded of the powerful image Princess Diana presented to the world. The information in this book is not new in 2020 but still an interesting walk down memory lane. The color photos of the clothes, I loved her clothes. She certainly set the style bar for me and my friends. I miss her.

I really like hearing about Diana and her life. When I was little I admired her so much and thought it would be a good time to listen to this audiobook.

It covers a good portion of her life in flashed of the most important things that changed her and made her who she was.

This book was super short and... fine? I listened to it in hopes of getting more info on Diana, but honestly this was full of broad strokes rather than the details I was hoping for. I’ve been watching the CNN documentary, and wanted to try a book, but I’m not really sure where to start.

I love anything about Princess Di however at times the book felt like a gossip column about her. Mostly enjoyable all in all.

paints a picture of a woman of contradictions. she had a fairy. tale wedding but a cold marriage. the media were equally a weapon wielded by her in promoting causes and against her. does a great job of taking us through her story and her impact.

This book was so sad, I felt like all the author talked about was how unhappy she was her whole life. She was an amazing lady who gave back to so many in need, that part was really inspiring.

Chock full of beautiful and never before seen photos, this book summarizes the tragic story of the lovely and misunderstood people's princess.

Overly simplistic & biased version about Princess Diana's life. Nothing of historical worthiness in this tabloid book.
