This is one of the "calmer" Fairy Tail books, where they spend more time talking—and a RIDICULOUS amount of time in a bathhouse—than the usual "fight literally anything that moves" sort of thing the guild usually gets into. The extensive bath scenes, of course, ruin my appetite for the story, regardless of how "important" what they do there is (it's not—it's an excuse for , however , since they literally could have just talked in the guild hall like they do later).
There are some cute moments, too, so I don't HATE the series, much less this volume in specific. It's more that, okay, yes—this IS a title—I have to expect some gratuitous nudity and breast/butt shots, etc., but MOST of the time it's actually fun content, so I just roll my eyes and go with it. At least it's not slavery (or "slavery" in the guise of while still having a degree of control over them regardless of how trustworthy they are).
Cute: + Frosch (Gray thinks so, too!) + Frosch vs. Happy () + Gray realising what happened when + :D ...admittedly a bit weird, but even says at the end that it's lovely!
Less cute: - Ueda's afterword musing that proper "A.I. art" would be convenient to help get manga created faster, but (luckily) realises that if it's TOO good, Ueda will be .
On the whole, definitely feels like a "vintage" Fairy Tail title, but not one of my faves. Recommended for fans only; complete newcomers shouldn't even be thinking about coming in so far after the fact. (I mean, I've been following since , and even *I* get confused about what's happening.)
After the more action-packed volumes we just go, the slower pace felt like such a treat. It felt good to have genuinely wholesome and funny moments with the entire guild reunited, which of course helps remind the reader of the nostalgia of the original Fairy Tail. Volumes like these are not strictly necessary plot wise, but the smile on my face during these chapters couldn't be beaten.
I liked that we got a proper ending for Irene. It was a bit out of the blue, and you can tell the author didn't quite know what to do with her, but they still gave her the most wholesome ending. It wraps up on her relationship with Ezra, even though I would have loved one mother-daughter moment. But I genuinely loved the way it was given to us. No side character is ever forgotten in Fairy Tail.
I liked that Saber Tooth came back for this new arc as well. I genuinely love all its members, and I’m especially fond of their dynamics with Fairy Tail. The little contest between them was strictly useless, but it was so fun I was just grinning from ear to ear. I’m so excited to see them have a bigger place in the next volume.
I love the development we’re slowly given arc after arc between Erza and Jellal. Even while still not being properly together, their feelings for each other are so plain that every other character genuinely roots for them. With the way this volume ended, I’m hopeful for a bit more development in their romance. I just know that it's past the time Jellal forgives himself and takes his rightful place in Fairy Tail.
Irene being reborn into Edolas Erzas child is just ??? I am sobbing. What a great way to finish with her character. It's almost as feelsy as Ultears ending. I love this series for this kind of stuff, it's so nice. ??
Anyways, with that out of the way, I had one problem with this manga, and it's that I think the first five pages should have been in the last volume xD Weird starting place and then ends immediately.
Aside from that, I am loving this volume. There's a lot of big talks, lots of stuff happening, a whole homecoming, it's a beautiful end to the second big arch of this series. And I think it's done really well. The quest is continued, but the characters go their ways in a perfect way. The new villains are introduced in a way that also makes perfect sense. It was just such a smooth transition. I read through the whole thing and was like damn, it's done? That was somehow fast and slow at the same time. Really big fan of this one, even if it's a slower action volume.
I will say though, the artist is quite aware. There's a whole written part at the end that talks about their feelings on AI and I think it's a good thing to keep in mind. AI is coming for artists jobs, and after that it'll be the writers. Capitalism is gonna take advantage of paying less for "the same thing" unless we stop it. Don't support AI if you love manga, cause once AI takes over, it's gonna be bad.

Idk, didn't feel like Sabertooth coming along was right for me, considering that the quest heavily implies that this was supposed to be exclusive. I know that it was already ruined by the other guild members' interventions. But, hey, that's just me.

A nice conclusion for irene, it'll be fun to see where this goes with athena. The not a couple Erza and Jellal once again alone together, what could happen? .natsu the same old hot head.
So Selene is a good guy and Irene is gone?! Dragon Slayers and Fairy Tail are on the same side now! And who are the Rock Miners?! I thought they were in the place the Alchemy guild was and finding Athena?!
