It’s really not funny that the MC h is trying to get out of marrying her murder-threatening kidnapping rapist and instead falling in love with him Stockholm-style. No, just no.
Also not cool that her father uses physical violence with a switch on his 22 year old daughter for staying out all night and her trying to dodge punishment by being cute. The beating happens off-page, but you see the results of it. He hits her on the back of the legs so it isn’t visible. Nice.

this manhwa has my whole heart 🥰 i remember being in the webtoon trenches back in the day waiting for the next chapters to come out.
the story follows Ripley, she wakes up one day and finds out she’s been isekaied into none other than one of her favorite novels, like any other romance manhwa same plot different font 🤭
� this one is a little different she doesn’t automatically wake up and is the main character instead she is a background character and she is absolutely happy about it.
Ripely is a Counts daughter so she decides to take advantage of that and eat all the sweets she can and basically plays dress up while the ‘main characters� follow the original storyline while she’s basically a background nobody. She full on believes she’ll wake up into her real body while the story plays out.
That’s until she is invited to the original main characters birthday party and her being a background nobody decides to just eat sweet and get drunk 🤭 but she wakes up and she’s in the bed with a man??? who is none other that the main male character the duke 😳
the duke tells her that since she took his first night she needs to take responsibility 😭😭😭 but Ripley isn’t having it. She just wanted to be a background nobody so she makes a plan (several) so the duke loses interest in her so she doesn’t disrupt the main storyline but anything she does just strays further and further from the main storyline hehe 🤭
this is very cute and very funny and the art is so pretty. there’s so much more that happens that you keep wanting to read more.
during my intense manhwa phase back in the day I dropped this because i was impatient with the weekly updates but i recently got gifted the first 3 physical copies that are out now so i very happy about that and hopefully i find out how it ends 🥹

I wasn’t sure what to expect with this because I basically chose it because it has a beautiful cover. I’m so glad I did though, because it was super cute, funny, and I even liked the romance between the characters. How could I not?!?! So Lady Ripley is our main character, a high school girl stuck in her favorite romance novel. She messes up the story all along the way and it’s hilarious.
Her knowledge of the book brings a funny insight into the characters and she’s constantly making side comments that crack me up!!! Let alone the relationships that have begun to grow between her and the other main characters. It’s super entertaining and I am eager to start the next book, which also has a gorgeous cover!!!
I recommend this to those who enjoy light romance manga that is mostly clean and has no super spicy scenes. Only mildly spicy. 😂😂

This is one of those books where it doesn't matter that you've seen it all before - it's done so well that it's still a ton of fun. Ripley is a delight of a goofy heroine as she makes all of the mistakes characters like Katarina made before her, and if the duke is a little creepy at times, the book does a good enough job of explaining him that it works. There's definitely a little dubious consent in here, so be aware of that, but the light color scheme and nods to other stories in the same genre make this a charmer.

The series ended with 84 episodes and some spin-off epilogues.
The art was so beautiful. The characters were lovable (esp our quirky FMC, Ripley). The plot was comedic at times but can also get pretty serious.
Ripley gets isekai-ed into this fantasy world where she ends up having a ONS with the Duke and now the Duke wants to marry her. Ripley is hilarious as she's always up to some mischief. Even though she tries to avoid the Duke's advances, they both end up falling in love and eventually getting married after a few more obstacles.
Then shit gets real and it literally feels like the world was turning on Ripley. Do check out this Webtoon!

I don't like or appreciate the glorification and justification of rape and toxic relationships/behaviors. I kept reading for the art which was well done.

No he leído muchos manhwas con reencarnaciones, pero dentro de mi corta experiencia puedo decir que este es de los mejores que he leído.
Nuestra protagonista, Ripley, reencarna de repente en su webnovel favorita y le toca ser la hija de una familia rica que no tiene mucha importancia en la trama. Ella decide disfrutar la situación y ver en primera persona cómo se va desarrollando el romance entre la protagonista femenina (huérfana adoptada por una familia rica, que sigue conservando su esencia humilde) y el protagonista masculino (duque frío y cortante).
Todo parece ir bien hasta que, en una fiesta, Ripley bebe un poco de más y se despierta a la mañana siguiente en la cama del duque.
A partir de aquí nos encontraremos una historia caótica y súper divertida donde Ripley intentará juntar a toda costa a los protagonista de la novela mientras el duque le exige a ella que se case con él, ya que debe hacerse responsable por esa primera noche juntos.
El ritmo de la lectura no es siempre igual, hay momentos en los que necesitas beberte los capítulos y otros momentos en los que llega incluso a ser pesada. Yo igualmente recomiendo seguir leyendo, los últimos capítulos prometo que son oro.

ripley isn’t the smartest main character that isekai-ed over, but she’s one of the female heroines that didn’t care about the past and rather, focused on her future with the love she is receiving from everyone in her new life. other than that, i really liked how old and new ripley interacted, even in the little time they had together. even though ripley is quite oblivious, she managed to create tight knit bonds with people around her, i especially liked her relationship with her maid, sylvia.
zeronis and ripley were so hilarious together. at first, all the tactics in the world wouldn’t stop zeronis from stopping the marriage. then, ripley finally accepted that this is happening, the romance was cute and funny. what a sweet pair. they really been through a lot with the other on their side. the trust and love that developed throughout was really heartwarming. it’s nice to see zeronis being so open and different towards ripley while ripley loves him. overall, it was a really sweet series.

One of my favorite romance and comedy webtoon, I was so excited to see this come out in print! The art is lovely and the humor is so good, and Zeronis is one of the absolute best male leads!!! I'm really looking forward to when Ripley stops fighting the inevitible, and I'm so happy that I get to own this.

This is the sort of webtoon where the main character falls into a piece of media she's thoroughly familiar with and ends up changing the story drastically. In this case, it's a very iffy sounding romance novel, and the main character isn't the heroine or villain, she's a side character. And would like to remain so. Instead, she quickly becomes the heroine and finds herself trying to extricate herself from a romance with the main hero of the novel. The tone is very different from many of the similar stories that I've read, in that it's a comedy, not a drama. Plus, the art is really good.
I just wish the main romance weren't so thoroughly awful. It begins when the main character, Ripley, wakes up the morning after a party in bed with the duke of the title. Folks. If she was so blackout drunk that she literally has no memory of a single moment with the duke, could she have actually consented to sex with him? Of course not. And yet, I guess we're not supposed to find this a disturbing start to the romance? Nor, I guess, are we supposed to be terrified for her that the duke is constantly threatening to murder her if she doesn't do as he wants. I'm sure there will be some kind of redemption arc where it'll be revealed that he never really meant any of it. It's still abusive. And because I have no interest in seeing an actually charming heroine get Stockholmed into marrying this man, I'll not be continuing.

Started reading this because it was easy to binge while waiting for other series to restart their daily paywall (just 90+ ads as a paywall lol yikes but I just did stuff while loading a bunch in one hit.)
As there’s 103 digital episodes, and 6 printed volumes, I am splitting the WEBTOON episodes up into group of 17 chapters. I am reviewing and counting them as part of my ŷ Reading Challenge like so, because, why not?

WEBTOON episodes: 1-17
I started this years ago and got about 9 chapters in, before I fell off the WEBTOON train. Like many of my rereads and continuations - it’s now complete!
The art is similar to Happily Ever Afterwards - just harsher line work, if that makes sense? It seems to lean into a more traditional manwha aesthetic, but avoids the sharp line work and either pastel or jewel tones I’ve noticed those dramas favour. The more bubbly and bright colourwork seems to be more due to a reflection of Ripley as a character, rather than the paying homage to anything else.
On the face of it, First Night With The Duke seems to be a more traditional isekai/manwha. It still has a “twist� to differentiate it from the traditional tropes of the genre, in that the FMC is a reincarnated as a “background� character, or “extra� as it’s called in the story. Her presence sets in motion events that cause the original characters of the world she inhabits to make different choices, and chaos insures.
As funny and entertaining as Ripley and her bad, chaotic ideas are to get the “story� back on track in these first 17 episodes, the story opens with her being too drunk to consent to sex or remember the event. Fundamentally, the FMC has been raped, and the MMC displays a kind of despotic behaviour who apparently? No one can actually stand against because he keeps killing people, and he threatens her if she tries to leave. Hence the title of the WEBTOON and the inciting action of the plot being that now they’re slept together, they’ve gotta get married. Because puritanical ideologies, domestic violence, etc, is apparently romantic. And she is not who he’s supposed to marry, according to her Real World Knowledge, so plot chaos insures.
Which if it weren’t for how pretty the art is and a general interest in seeing what she does next in this world (and a hope for better to a degree) I would’ve dropped it sooner. But something I’ve noticed as an outside observer over the years is that while the genre seems to repackage a lot of culturally toxic ideas and market them as forgivable, a lot of Dark Romances tend to do the same. You can’t exactly forgive one for the fantasy but not the other. Different strokes for different folks and all, but it’s still exploring a fantasy romance within the safety of fiction, and I’m curious at this point to see whether or not it’ll be tackled or just left as is.
Soooooo opening what’s marketed as a “fun silly romance� (which apart from this it otherwise is!) is a big enough yuck to pull it down to two stars.
Character development wise, everyone’s interesting and fun � and then there’s Duke Zeronis. While the first chapters has very “touch her and die� energy at points, perfect for the fan of the trope, it also has a lot of toxic, incel ideology coming from the main male lead. Will this be fixed? Who knows? By the end of Chapter 17 we can see his “love� for Ripley is a similar obsessiveness he had for Etoile (the original story’s FMC and Duke’s love interest) and whether the emotions will stay that way is undecided.
Ripley is established early as having a traumatic friendship breakdown, which is part of the cause for why she’s so driven to reassert the story back on its correct track. Her conscience though doesn’t allow her to have the cruelty needed to do what she thinks she must, so the scheming to pop the plot on track is entertaining. The friendship she makes with Etoile is endearing and I can see that Ripley in their burgeoning friendship is attempting to get Etoile to begin thinking for herself. You can see the character development beginning already with some of these characters, which is a surprise this early. It’ll be interesting to see how much further it will develop, and who they will become compared to their “original� plots.
Sylvia the maid is the best though.
This is also the first isekai (that I can remember) I’ve read where I think there’s a true villainess in the vein of the genre? It’s good reading to have so I kind of get now what’s the go with the genre and why it’s so popular. Watching Ripley and Lady Rose butt heads is entertaining.
I’m going to finish it because I’ve started it back in the day, and it’s now completed so I want to know how it ends. Really iffy on if I’ll actually enjoy it though or if I’ll just enjoy the binge.

But something I’ve noticed as an outside observer over the years is that while the genre seems to repackage a lot of culturally toxic ideas and market them as forgivable, a lot of Dark Romances tend to do the same. You can’t exactly forgive one for the fantasy but not the other. Different strokes for different folks and all, but it’s still exploring a fantasy romance within the safety of fiction, and I’m curious at this point to see whether or not it’ll be tackled or just left as is.
Soooooo opening what’s marketed as a “fun silly romance� (which apart from this it otherwise is!) is a big enough yuck to pull it down to two stars.
Character development wise, everyone’s interesting and fun � and then there’s Duke Zeronis. While the first chapters has very “touch her and die� energy at points, perfect for the fan of the trope, it also has a lot of toxic, incel ideology coming from the main male lead. Will this be fixed? Who knows? By the end of Chapter 17 we can see his “love� for Ripley is a similar obsessiveness he had for Etoile (the original story’s FMC and Duke’s love interest) and whether the emotions will stay that way is undecided.
Ripley is established early as having a traumatic friendship breakdown, which is part of the cause for why she’s so driven to reassert the story back on its correct track. Her conscience though doesn’t allow her to have the cruelty needed to do what she thinks she must, so the scheming to pop the plot on track is entertaining. The friendship she makes with Etoile is endearing and I can see that Ripley in their burgeoning friendship is attempting to get Etoile to begin thinking for herself. You can see the character development beginning already with some of these characters, which is a surprise this early. It’ll be interesting to see how much further it will develop, and who they will become compared to their “original� plots.
Sylvia the maid is the best though.
This is also the first isekai (that I can remember) I’ve read where I think there’s a true villainess in the vein of the genre? It’s good reading to have so I kind of get now what’s the go with the genre and why it’s so popular. Watching Ripley and Lady Rose butt heads is entertaining.
I’m going to finish it because I’ve started it back in the day, and it’s now completed so I want to know how it ends. Really iffy on if I’ll actually enjoy it though or if I’ll just enjoy the binge.

A very lovable and adorable manhwa read!
You can read The First Night with the Duke on Webtoons app. You get one free episode a day and 3 additional episodes a day if you watch an ad for each one. There’s about 100 episode in the series with 13 cute after the ending episodes. I kind of like to read web comics this way because I get a little treat each day, also I feel like watching ads kind of gives pay a little to the authors.
The first 3 volumes have been serialized in America and I’m happy about that! Sometimes it’s a good feeling to open an actual book and you can really get the look and feel for the graphics (which is the best part in comics).
The art style isn’t my favorite, I prefer realism with a lot of detail, but the sweet cartoon style isn’t bad either. It’s rather cute and you get the sweet feel for the series. The best part of the series for me is the leading lady, Ripley. I hate the orange (carrot) hair, but even she makes fun of her looks which I find amusing.
The story is what the title states, she spends the first night with the Duke, Zeronis, and everything kind of falls out of control or into place, depending on how you see it from that night. I really love the characters the creator created. Zeronis is the perfect side character to Ripley’s story. This is truly Ripley’s story. It’s about her falling into her favorite book world and the antics she goes through.
Ripley’s character is comical, lovable and strong. She’s one of my favorite leading ladies because of this. I love the way she presents herself and she truly doesn’t care what people think of her. I love that Zeronis never wavers and also has the heart eyes for Ripley. He’s simply cares for Ripley for who she is.
Overall, it’s a really good series to get sucked into. You can binge read everything in one go or like me, read a little a day to treat yourself to cuteness all the time until you finish the series.
