Essentially a book for those interested in studying sociology, but who aren't doing it yet. Its main goal is to show how the lessons, concepts and theories of sociology can be applied to daily life issues. As such, it is written in very general terms and superficially covers the work of many sociologists. I found it boring and I think even the target audience won't find it a very engaging reading because of the language: despite this being a book for laymen, the wording and phrasing will often get too complicated. Sometimes the book hits it mark, for example, when explaining that thinking sociologically can be an antidote for many harmful attitudes by helping us understand other individuals and other groups, classes, cultures, etc. But it's mostly boring.

Olen muutaman Baumanin opuksen aiemmin lukenut, ja nyt tarttui t?llainen sosiologian johdantoteos hyppysiini. Kirja onkin tarkoitettu niille, jotka haluavat arkiajattelusta perusteellisempaa n?k?kulmaa erilaisiin sosiaalisiin ja yhteiskunnallisiin ilmi?ihin ja niiden syv?llisempiin ulottuvuuksiin ja merkityksiin.
Niit? aiheita ovat vapauden ja riippuvuuden v?linen suhde ja toisaalta ristiriitakin, meid?n itsemme suhde muihin ja muukalaisiin. Lopulta p??st??n kahdentoista luvun aikana luonnosta ja kulttuurista valtioon, kansalaisuuteen ja j?rjestykseenkin. Viimeisess? luvussa listataan sosiologian mahdollisuuksia j?sent?? ymp?r?iv?? todellisuutta.
Eri luvuissa on samantyyppinen rakenne, eli l?hdet??n jostain arkisesta ilmi?st? liikkeelle, ja sit? taustoitetaan tai syvennet??n erilaisten teorioiden avulla, jotta saadaan tieteellisemp?? ja filosofisempaakin n?k?kulmaa. Aluksi johdatellaan k?yt?nn?n esimerkkien avulla Norbert Eliaksen ja Freudin kautta Adam Smithiin. My?s Max Weber on hyvin edustettuna, kun l?hdet??n purkamaan yhteiskunnallisia roolituksia, byrokratiaa ja samastumisen tarpeita ja keinojakin.
Lopulta p??st??nkin valtaan ja erilaisiin vaihtokauppoihin niin rahan kuin seksinkin suhteen. Avuksi l?ytyv?t niin Niklas Luhmann kuin lopuksi viel? Emile Durkheimkin. Gostei bastante do livro, uma área muito interessante que eu nunca havia estudado de fato.
Os autores definem a sociologia como uma ciência e a partir disso seguem com análises de fatos sociais embasadas por métodos científicos e n?o pelo senso comum.
Bauman, por si só, já merece respeito por seus mais de 50 anos de trabalho como sociólogo e quase 60 livros publicados.
Apesar do viés pessimista, por exemplo no rigor ao falar sobre a desvaloriza??o das rela??es, mercantiliza??o da identidade, comunidade vs rede (social, inclusive), certamente lerei outros livros dos autores e de outros que eles referenciam.

Okurken referans verdi?i bir ?ok güzel kitap okuma listeme ?oktan eklendi bile. Son 1-2 y?lda okuma süresi en uzun kitap olsa dahi, bence tatmin etmenin ?tesinde bir duygu yaratt?. Asia itse on kiinnostavaa – kirjassa k?sitell??n muun muassa vapautta, valtaa ja rasismia – mutta tyyliin oli aluksi vaikeaa p??st? sis?lle, ja senkin j?lkeen teksti tuntui monin paikoin ??rimm?isen puisevalta. Silloin t?ll?in, kun lukeminen sujui, arkisten ilmi?iden tarkastelu uusista n?k?kulmista (siis sosiologinen ajattelu) oli palkitsevaa ja kiinnostavaa.
Kirja on melko vaikeaselkoinen, vaikka esimerkiksi k?sitteet selitet??n varsin arkisesti. En ole varma, onko se t?ysin alkuper?isen tekstin ominaisuus vai onko k??nn?ksell? osansa asiaan. V?lill? tuntui, ett? kirja olisi helpompi ymm?rt?? englanniksi. Vaikeaselkoisuuteen vaikuttaa ainakin pari seikkaa. 自我本身始终在两大强力之间摇摆：一方是本能，另一方是超我。我们的自我形成过程，本能可能或不可能被抑制的过程，往往被称为“社会化”socialization 我们将一般而言源自社会，具体来说源自重要他人的那些规范与价值内化，由此被社会化，变得能够在社会中生活。
“消费社会”- 即便是最紧致繁复的生活方式，如果想要成功市场化，也必须成普遍可以采用的，即使他们的魅力在于与可能性保持距离。
所有的商品都有其价格标签。这些标签筛选出潜在客户群，它们勾勒出实际的，不切实际的，可行的之间的边界，特定的消费者无法逾越。市场大力倡导并广而告之的那种明面上的机会平等，背后是消费者实际上的不平等，因为他们实际的选择自由大小分化悬殊。--市场化的生活方式赋予其所有者众生竞夺的区隔。

A good introduction to sociology. The language is simple and fluid, though it gets repetitive towards the end. I found the concept of defining a society or a community through others especially intriguing. The book covers many different aspects of sociological research at beginner level. At the end there is also section with questions to think about for each section in the book + additional resources for further reading.

Como a proposta é algo mais introdutório, achei o livro bem satisfatório para mim, leiga. Ao final de cada capítulo tem algumas perguntas para refletir sobre e outras referências bibliográficas para se aprofundar no tema daquele capítulo específico. A longia6gem deixa a leitura meio lerda mas talvez seja quest?o de costume com esse tipo de texto.

Very abstract for a book that purportedly introduces sociological thinking to everyday thinking. Despite being an obtuse read, there were enough interesting sections (e.g. on intimacy, fitness) to keep me going.

A pesar de su posición postmodernista que intenta explicar y abarcar todo, es necesario reconocer que la facilidad y sencillez con la que Bauman logra explicar el pensamiento sociológico es impresionante.
