Deceptions

Rate this book
Angels and demons, vampires and werewolves... And Peter, bound to Lucien, the master vampire, walks amongst them, no longer all human but without a place of his own. Desperate to be turned and baffled by Lucien's continuing refusal, Peter is starting to feel that he's losing his vampire lover.

Their relationship has become purely physical, with Lucien pushing Peter away at every turn. And after a night watching werewolf Xander hunt, a night that sees Peter attacked, that might not be all he's losing.

Fearing for his very life, and working hard to keep Lucien's increasingly uncertain temper from hurting his friends, Peter's doing all he can to prove that he belongs at Lucien's side, not just as a master, but as an equal.

Then Lucien disappears, and Peter knows he has to call on every ally, every power he has, to get Lucien back before he's gone forever. Can Peter find a way to beat the forces working against them, or will he lose all that he holds dear?

I can't believe that I have owned this ebook for more than 10 years and never got around to reading it...so, thank heavens for Challenges!

It's been a while since I read that first one but surprisingly the whole story quickly came to mind, and if it weren't for how Peter suddenly became an "alpha" type (when he just didn't read like one, then or now) that everyone wanted to love and have sex with and defend and bow down to, well I think I would have liked it more. See, that dramatic rescue & subsequent recovery? That's where he earns the respect to be co-Master IMHO (where he shows the most character growth as well)...and having characters who are stronger than he is acquiesce to him is all well and good as a sign of respect to his mate, but not to him as a person.

So, okay not everyone liked him being co-leader...and that dramatic tension is where I found the most pleasure. Not the bit with the jealous asshole because I saw that coming a mile away, but those who questioned Peter's standing, his ability and drive and desire to lead. I liked that he had to earn his place, and prove he wasn't just a titular master.

And okay, the sex scenes were ridiculously hot. I'm totally on board with the poly relationships in this 'verse; the more the merrier.

Lots of interesting side characters here, too...and I hope we get more of them in the sequel.

Putting the next installment on the challenge shelf and crossing my fingers that someone picks it (or it fits a category) so that I don't lose track of this series again! My curiosity is piqued on what Peter might be changing into....

I was very excited to start Book 2 mere minutes after finishing Book 1. Peter and Lucien are dealing with a very strained relationship at the start of the book because though Peter is going through changes and new cravings, Lucien won't fulfill his promise of turning Peter and making him a full fledged vampire. This comes as a bit of a surprise to us, but the author does a great job of explaining both of their points of view. Peter then turns to Xander in a short-lived bid to make Lucien jealous. Needless to say that doesn't last long. :-) I was happy with the introduction of new secondary characters, and grew to love the ones from Book 1 even more. LOVE the relationship between Xander and Peter and even though I didn't agree that Peter could actually beat Xander in a fight (in Book 1,) I love that Peter has someone that is solely loyal to him and that they truly love each other. Swooon. Lucien/Peter will always be my heart but Peter/Xander come a close second.

The plot this time was good for the most part. I especially enjoyed Lucien's rescue, and Peter's role in it. Everyone came together in a way that was believable and well executed. The ending (the scene in the kitchen) left me all warm and fuzzy inside. Peter having some practical input, and bringing new ideas to improve the coven was also well done. I love Silver, Xander, Nikolas and Peter as a team and their friendly banter made the book fun. All in all, a good read. I will definitely read it again.

Now for the issues:

While I enjoyed , I didn't love it as much as . The main problem for me was Peter. Many people have compared this series to the Anita Blake series and I readily admit that the reason I haven't read the AB series is because authors almost always turn female protagonists into some sort of 'Mary Sue' character. Jourdan manages to do this with Peter this go 'round. Everyone's in love with him and everyone wants to sleep with him. Also, I understand that Peter is Lucien's mate but I couldn't buy into Peter as coven master, by any stretch of the imagination. Whenever he spoke about 'leading our people,' I cringed. To have Peter as Xander's alpha is one thing, but to have an uber male like Nikolas acknowledge Peter as his alpha, not just out of respect for Lucien, but because of 'some strength within him' was just laughable. Peter himself acknowledges that picking a fight with Nikolas would be a death sentence, so for Nikolas to keep insisting that Peter become Lycan leader defies logic. Peter is newly created and can't even fully shift! Peter is an awesome balancing force for Lucien and, as I said, I love their relationship, but they are not equals. The only reason we know Peter is supposed to be coven master is because everyone keeps dropping to their knees and addressing him as such. It would have made more sense to either make him second-in-command to Lucien or have Lucien turn him, and then have us live through his journey as a new vampire learning to use his power. At least the author shows that some in the coven don't respect him. I wouldn't have either.

The sex - Here again, I was a bit disappointed after reading Book 1. Yes, there was also a lot this time but it almost seems gratuitous because Lucien and Peter aren't 'playing' together. It just reads like Peter can't keep it in his pants. As soon as anyone says hello, he's ready and willing. Also, everyone Peter bites, or who bites him, taints him in some way and gives him extra powers. Is he a sponge?? And considering he knows biting strange creatures during sex ie Sabaan causes problems, how about he just not do it?? Like Caleb told him, 'Your bed is too full, even for my tastes.' Uh yeah, mine too Caleb, mine too. As for Caleb...Whyyy?? Whyyyyyyy? Just plain character assassination. Can Caleb sue? :-) I guess I can understand what the author did with his character but I still hated it. Lastly, can we please get Xander a boyfriend of his own?? Geez! Is it too much to ask? :-)

Long story short, I did like this book but it was more flawed than Book 1 and many questions remained unanswered at the end. Why exactly was Logan accepted into the coven so easily?? Simon and Cyril, what's their story? Why is Peter such an idiot to Jack? Why does Lucien at times get deathly jealous and other times go with the flow? What is Peter's medical status? We waited the whole book for it and then it was just passed over in the end. Guess that's for Book 3, which I am off to read now... :-)

Happy Reading.

Well, the second of the Soul Mates get 3, not 5 stars as the first book. I like it, but don't think it deserve the full vote.

Probably you notice something immediately... yeah, I don't classify this book as Erotic. Don't freak out, it's a hot book and if you want naught details I can say (without spoil the story) that there is a ménage à trois+1 that made me sweat! (sorry, I hate the word "orgy" so let's say it's ménage à trois+1 and you will get my point)... but this book has little or better, less than a half of hot scenes than the first. BUT it's a terrific paranormal-romance!

Peter now is more secure of his position of clan master, exactly as Lucien, and will start to make pretty good changes for the coven. I like how Peter is delicate and understand all the problems of the coven. Lucien is a great master, but sometimes he is too much bad ass, and forget to treat all creatures equally. I appreciate more details about the werewolves (the first book talk so little about them!) and certainly it's merit of Peter that strong creatures as werewolves are submissive.

BUT the cruel true must be told, so I must say that I hate all the drama of this book ... some times Peter was such a whining hero that my desire was see a scene of Lucien bitch slapping his partner...

but Lucien is waaaaaaaaaaaay too good and don't do a thing to make Peter understand how annoying he became! And that the problem of the book! Lucien let Peter be a spoiled guy, and get himself in a terrible situation. Yeah, I'm not kidding... something terrible and sad will happen and it's obviously Peter's fault.

So, 3 stars, and only the constant whining of Peter obligate me give less stars than the first book.
BUT I insist, it's a good book... and I believe paranormal-romance and/or M/M readers will enjoy the reading.

PS:YOU MUST READ THIS BOOK just to see the demon! OMG, I love the guy! I love his description! We are talking about a demon, with horns and tail! LOOOOOOOOVE this new character, and I hope he will be part of the next of the serie!

Peter and his Vampire lover Lucien are back in book two of this awesome series. Along for another roller coaster ride of action, blood and sex are Xander, Nicholas, Caleb, Simon and other members of the coven and wolf pack. There are also a few new characters introduced in this book, chief among them the incubus Sabaan.

It's been a few months since Peter moved into the mansion and things between him and Lucien are not going well. Lucien's temper is starting to adversely affect the coven and Peter is trying to deal with the fact that Lucien seems to have changed his mind about turning Peter. When Peter discovers that Lucien is turning someone else his reactions will set off a chain of events that will be felt throughout the entire coven and will have devastating consequences for more than one person.

As Peter tries to deal with the hurt of once again being denied by Lucien his bond with Xander will continue to grow strong. Adding to the mix of problems for Peter will be the fact that a new bond will start to form also with Nicholas. His bonding with these two werewolves will be another sore spot in his relationship with Lucien.

When Peter starts to go through episodes of blackouts, including terrible pain and the feeling of being watched and followed he fears for his life and sanity. The complications of the different relationships he's a part of and his anguish at Lucien's refusal to bring him over only add to his distress. When the unthinkable happens and Lucien disappears Peter is left to try and keep the coven together and at the same time deal with the fact that his body seems to be trying to turn him into a shifter. Unable, and definitely unwilling to fully shift, Peter will need the help of the Vampire Council's best doctors to deal with this new issue.

When a devastating betrayal is discovered it will affect many of the inner circle of the coven but most of all Peter and Lucien directly. The pain of this betrayal will however serve to bring them closer to each other and is something that will continue to play a major role into at least the next book of the series.

Once again has written a fast paced and action packed thriller of a book. The characters are superbly well developed and their ever changing relationships are a very interesting part of the world in which these men live in. As was the case in the first book, , the sex scenes are super hot and the introduction of Nicholas and Sabaan into the mix only makes it hotter. I really loved this sequel and highly recommend the series.

very disappointed with Deceptions uh uh! For the love of God I could not follow the story, it was all over the place!
so there is Peter..who seems to be a magnet for all creatures walking the earth..why? i have no idea! he's having sex with everyone, cause he feels this 'connection', he's got some annoying diva-allures at times and all of a sudden he is mister Action/security expert??? felt like i missed a whole book between the Bound by Blood and this one.. as a reader we are kept in the dark about Caleb. and i definately missed the part where Caleb and Xander had a thing going on!! come'on I was soo waiting for that! and it just 'happened' in between the books and we have no idea? Same thing with the bad guy..we meet him for 5 lines, that's it. no reason, no history.... pity really. it would have made the difference between a good, hot story and a hot read with some erratic story in between. i think i have better things to read then the next 2 installments of this series....

It's been a year since I read and lovely Julia from my lending group had just posted that she had #2 and #3 and I jumped on borrowing them so I could continue the series. I did a quick skim of BBB so I'd refresh my memory and characters.

I've reread Derekika Snake's Blood Nation series since I first read ByB and although there isn't the non-con and multiple personalities present in Blood Nation, Peter seems to get into just as many scrapes and situations as our dear Xavier. With both series, they feel like road trips, kinda meandering.

Peter picks up groupies and a busy bed schedule like Xavier. Lucien has installed Peter as his co-Master of the coven and not all members of the coven are happy with this turn of events. Peter's body is changing, into what, no one seems to know. And sometimes Peter is a big whiny baby which sets in motion almost losing Lucien. But, slowly, Peter grows into a stronger person and Master.

The saga continues.

GREAT M/M Vampire Series, STEAMING HOT EROTICA!!!!

I couldn’t put this very well written fast paced and action packed read down. Jourdan Lane absolutely WOW’s me with this paranormal world she has created with this series. Between all the blood and sex, Xander, Nicholas, Caleb, Simon and two new characters Nicholas and Sabann web a bond that is full of intense emotions that run rampant between each other and the coven.

All the characters are well developed and I found myself loving how they interacted with each other and respecting their loyalty whether they were vampires, were-wolves, or demons. The sex scenes were so steaming hot I had to literally go take a cold shower to calm my sexual arousal until my husband got home (laughing out loud).

This book was so good I bought the third book “Sacrifice before I even finished. The story captured my heart immediately and I absolutely love it. Go ahead and pick it up, I promise you won’t be disappointed, just maybe a little enthralled with excitement.

This one, like this first, was a fast paced and action packed book. I am still just loving these guys. Peter, Lucien, Xander, Nicholas and now Sabaan all. All of these characters are very well developed and the relationships constantly changing and very intense. As before, the sex scenes are really hot. I really liked this sequel and highly recommend the entire series.

A fabulous follow up to ! The plot is really beginning to thicken in this second part. We were introduced to some new characters: a demon/incubus with a very interesting anatomy; an angel; and a new master vampire. Peter, although he often seems whiny and spoiled, is starting to step more into his role as "co-master" of the coven. There is not nearly enough Lucien in this book but that is for very good reason which you learn when you read ;0) Some of the more minor characters from the first book get a bigger role here. We get to learn more about the Lycans which I loved. There are some very interesting developments going on with Peter and the Lycans that are leading up to the next book . This second book has some really hot sex scenes. This author knows how to do a good threesome/foursome which I really do appreciate ;0D but this second book is more plot heavy than the first book.

This is one of my most favorite m/m paranormal series and I hope Ms. Lane doesn't plan on ending it anytime soon. She's brilliant when it comes to building the world of the vamps and the weres and she keeps adding the coolest and most amazing characters. The sex is hot, the characters are beautiful, and the world is some place I'd love to be. Can't wait to start the next one.

01/18/13: Revised rating after a couple of years of reading m/m: from 4 to 3.

I liked this book better than the first , that seemed to have more sex than plot. I found this book more interesting, because there is a constant sense of menace that kept me reading (almost a one-sitting book).

I had only one problem with the book: Peter, the narrator. I tried to convince myself that he was scared for his own health, that you surely panic when your body seems to be out of control, but could he keep his pants on for a while? There's a hint of explanation for his behavior at the end, but I had to roll my eyes because one moment he says he won't play without Lucien, the next he's having sex with someone. I think he has the potential of being strong, of being a leader, everyone is telling him so, but he's focused on being turned, straining his relationship with Lucien to the point of breaking. Probably this will happen in the future, but here he seemed a bit immature. I must admit that there's some groveling in the end, but not enough.

We don't see enough of Lucien, in my opinion, but you'll see why when you read the book. There are great secondary characters, especially Nikolas, who stole the scene. WOW! I mean, WOW! We are introduced to Sabaan, an incubus with an interesting anatomy, and Logan, a fascinating Master vampire with powers.

I'll read the next book, of course.

I really loved this sequel to the first novel . It has every thing I loved about the last book and more!

In this one Peter is in an in between life, no longer human but not anything else either. He has tried to persuade his lover Lucien, to turn him but now it has caused a rift between them and Peter is doing all he can to show Lucian that he belongs at his side and to try to deflect Lucien recent temper from friends and the coven.

Then Lucien disappears and Peter must find him soon or he might just lose him...

Again this book has everything from the last and more; Hot and sexy sex scenes, awesome, fast paced, addictive plot and more than a little action thrown in.

There are a lot more characters introduced and more information about previous ones as well. We also get to see some of Peter in his 'Master' role, which was very interesting.

And the author gives us more of Peter's and Xander's relationship, which I thought was great. Because we get to know a little bit more about Xander and the werewolves because of it.

I really like the direction the series is heading so far and hope it continues to get better and better!! I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a great m/m paranormal read!!

Wow. This book was one of those I couldn't put down. As soon as I did I bought the next in the series "Sacrifice". I love the characters in these books and how they interact. Lane let's you think you completely know a character then BAM they do something totally unexpected. I highly recommend this series.

Less sex than the first book!!!

This book had more plot than the first but didn't have much of an ending, still some unanswered questions so I will have to read the next one.

Not much Lucien in it but a lot of Peter and his wolves!!!

I found myself falling into book two with as much enthusiasm as where book one left off. Lucien and Peter struggle a bit more through this book and Peter’s bond with other members of the coven solidifies. The sex is as hot and plentiful as ever (no hardship for me). What is to become of Peter as Lucien’s mate I wonder? Must read on to find out more!

I should have read the blurb before reading this book, for it has three things I don't like in general:
Vampires, werewolves and urban fantasy. Put that in a setting that I've seen dozens of times, with lots of sex that give me serious questionmarks for, why!?!?
Oh and even more clichés than I could name.

Stil intruiging enough to finish, so thats a plus...

Over a year has passed since Peter first met Lucien, his vampire lover. Lucien is filled with anger, constantly lashing out at the members of his coven as a result of being unnecessarily overprotective of Peter. Peter is bound to Lucien, and ingesting his blood has left Peter in a state of limbo. He is no longer human, but at the same time is not a vampire. He is desperate for Lucien to turn him, to give him the gift of immortality and to cease the cravings that grow stronger every day.

“’I wish I knew what it was that made you change your mind ~ made you stop loving me enough to make me your equal. But remember this, Lucien: I’m not human anymore. Whatever I am? You did this to me.

The more that Lucien withdraws from the coven members, the more Peter steps forward to keep things running as smoothly as possible. In a short time, Peter has become deeply dedicated to the coven that he is now responsible for as one of two masters. When Peter learns that Lucien has agreed to give to someone else what he has consistently begged his lover for, their relationship suffers a devastating blow. He no longer recognizes the man he fell in love with. “My once friend, lover, and soulmate seemed almost a stranger.

The further apart he and Lucien get, the stronger his bond to werewolf Xander gets. They are so close, Xander always knows when something is wrong with Peter and he is there whenever he is needed. Peter also spends more time with another werewolf, Nikolas, who most people avoid out of fear. Peter knows that neither of the werewolves would ever hurt him, and he feels safe with them. However, one night when he watches Xander hunt, things go terribly wrong. Peter is attacked by a werewolf, leading to a possible infection and enraging Lucien even further. The lovers must fight to rebuild their connection, admit their fears and jealousies to one another, and present a united front for their people.

Soul Mates: Deceptions is an awesome read about a detailed world with enchanting characters, filled with action and eroticism. Lane captures the reader’s imagination and sends it soaring from the beginning. It is mesmerizing to watch how Peter has grown since the first book, accepting his role as a master. He is a natural leader and he demands respect, even while silently questioning his actions and decisions. The relationship between Peter and Lucien hits a rough patch, but it is engaging to watch as they work to find what they have lost. These two are the definition of soul mates, and they are a joy to spend time with, whether they are making love or fighting.

The world that Lane has created is filled with fascinating and captivating secondary characters. There is a depth of detail to the world that gives a sense of realism and makes it so easy for the reader to get immersed in the world and the characters. We revisit characters introduced in the first book, including Caleb and Simon, and meet new ones for the first time. Here we see the relationship between Peter and Xander strengthen and more is revealed about who Xander is and what kind of power he possesses. Peter meets the angel, Cyril and immediately knows that trouble will follow him wherever he goes. Reid is a member of the coven, mourning the loss of his lover Paul, but is also hiding a secret that could be dangerous to everyone. Logan is a master vampire who comes to town looking for a new coven, and provides Peter with help in hopes of being accepted.

My favorite character, Nikolas, thankfully plays a much bigger role in the story starting with this second book. We start to get some insight into the man, to be able to see past the rumors and façade that he has created. He senses something in Peter, something that screams of power and they begin to build a strong connection. We also get introduced to a unique character, and my other favorite, the demon Sabaan. The demon of lust and power is a sight to behold with “greenish-black horns, eyes that are “black as onyx with bright yellow elongated slits for pupils, pearlescent skin, and a forked tongue and tail. He is an incubus, like Lucien, and Peter is drawn to him immediately. Sabaan provides some humor to the dark story, and this is a wonderful introduction to a character that will continue to play a role in the series.

Once you start reading this series, you won’t be able to stop! The characters, the setting, the plot, the writing is all fantastic and makes for a breathtaking experience for the reader. I do recommend starting at the beginning of the series, with Soul Mates: Bound by Blood, in order to fully understand the relationship between Peter and Lucien and Peter’s introduction to this world. After Soul Mates: Deceptions you will want to jump right into the third book, Soul Mates: Sacrifice. There are also two other stories in the series, A Coven Christmas and “Possession from the Spiked anthology which each deal with a few of the characters in the series. At the core, these books are about love, trust, devotion and family and should not be missed!

“At home, there was no master or sir or lord; there was just ~ family. A family that we had created. A family that I would fight to the death to protect.

Ok, so this is the second book in the Soul Mates series and as a whole I like it better that the first. I keep going back and forth between 3.5 stars and 4 stars.

In Deception, we pick up with Peter and Lucian about a year after Peter joined the coven and became bound to Lucien and second master of the coven. Their relationship and their coven are experiencing some growing pains and because of that both are fractured. Add to that Peter's mysterious power and illness, plus his bond with Xander and his desire to be turned to a vampire, and things are just not right. We meet some new characters: a couple of new werewolves, an angel and a demon. Peter continues to have a lot of sex that even I feel guilty about and there are even a few lose ends left to be tied up at the end of the story that I assume will be resolved in the next book.

Ok, let's for a change start with the things that made me nuts. When we start the story we discover it's been almost a year since the start of the previous book. But right from the star, it feels like I missed something. But I checked and there isn't a short story or anything that I hadn't read. The biggest reason is a character named Caleb. When we last saw Caleb he was part of the menage happening with Peter & Lucien and now he's mostly persona non grata and you never really find out when and how that came to pass.

Now there's Peter, the narrator... I want to like Peter and I mostly do, but he's sort of frustrating. I mean he expects monogamy from Lucien, but he has sex with 2 other men out of Lucien's presence and he kisses another. And no matter how sexy it is, it always makes me cringe because I'm still not quite clear on the rules of their relationship, but since he always feels guilty about doing it, I always cringe when he does. On the other hand, there are multiple 3 ways in this book... even a 4 way and those are fine because everyone is ok with them. Also Peter is is apparently showing some unexplained power. And he is suffering mysteriously with something that never quite gets explained, although I suspect the next book will be about it. There is however at least one thing that happened that is never quite explained. Early on Peter is get attacked when he should have been perfectly safe and obviously someone did something, not I guess we are to assume that the bad guy in this book did it, but they don't really say that. Also there are some mysterious moments when he can't get into his room and those are never really explained either.

One last word of advice, if you haven't read the blurb about the book, don't. The blurb mentions various situations which not only don't happen until the end, they are meant to be a mystery. I checked and it's the same blurb from the authors website, but it really made me keep waiting for something to happen, but then when I realized that no one else in the story realized what had happened, it was worse. Mostly because everyone continued their regular lives, the feeding the happy, the sex because they didn't know, but then they have that awful moment when they realize what has happened and feel bad for not realizing sooner, and I was cheated of that moment because I was living it for the 50 pages before. Also I like to try to figure things out and I was cheated out of that as well.

Here's what's better, the story felt less choppy, more together. There were way less of the sudden mood shifts with no explanation although they were still there in places. There was a through line with little side stories but this time they felt more like subplots instead of a different short story. So clearly if I had time to nitpick the little stuff like I did, that means that the big stuff is not bad.

I'm off to read a short story in the universe before starting the next book, which I will likely do by Monday... so much for me not rushing through since I don't know when the next one will come out....

There are storm clouds building over lover’s paradise. Lucien cares for Peter so deeply that he has become too over protective, and Peter desperately wants Lucien to turn him. It’s the same usual human vampire romance story. Peter wants to be with Lucien forever and be forever young as Lucien is. Rightfully, Lucien is too scared to bring Peter over, because it doesn’t always go as it should or would be expected. Lucien would rather love Peter until his mortal life ends, rather than risk losing him now.
The storm clouds build even more when Logan, another Master vampire wanders into the Den, and Lucien is missing. He left Peter a short note stating that he was called away on Council business. The coven is torn down the middle, vampire against werewolf. This is the first time that Peter must be the coven master in Lucien’s absence, and the vampires and werewolves don’t respect Peter. They see Peter as Lucien’s companion, regardless of the bonding ceremony performed in the coven’s audience.
Will Lucien and Peter’s relationship be forced to continue with out their link, or will their link be re-established? Only finding the truth behind the deceptions will prove it possible, or not.

It was long due from my side to read the second book in the Soul Mates series. Bound by Blood was probably among the first gay paranormal romances I read, and it for sure let me a strong impression, above all since it was also the first time my concept of “romance was tested. Soul Mates are Peter and Lucien, and for me, old fashioned mind, that meant they should be all for each other and excluding any other “combination; but that is not how it works in Lucien’s coven, a place where other vampires, but also shapeshifters, incubuses, and many other paranormal creatures find shelter and hospitality; and the hospitality more than once leads to sharing a bed. Peter and Lucien are the paired masters of the coven, but they freely, and happily, share their bed with other guests; the strong point of this agreement is that, not matter what happens, they are the real couple and other addition to them is welcomed but probably not permanent, if not maybe for Xavier, a constant for now from book 1 to book 2. New addition of book 2 that I suppose we will see again in the future, are Nikolas, an alpha shapeshifter, and Sabaan, an incubus.

Sex for Peter was never a problem, neither in book 1; if I remember well, his main issue was for Lucien to be a vampire, not for them to share their bed with other companions. So sex is still not a problem, but I liked that the author chose to start and end the story with a sex scene that was exclusively between Peter and Lucien, as to highlight that yes, they are the real and steady pair of all the series. Truth be told, Peter can come out like “slutty, since he basically shares his bed with whoever he likes, but that was him also in the first book, and I think this is his nature; and in the end, I think that Lucien liked him exactly for this reason, for his “freedom towards sex, Peter likes sex and sex is a healthy and good way to express his joie de vivre.

The main issue between Peter and Lucien is instead that, even if Peter is sharing the bed with most of the members of the coven, he is not really one of them; Lucien is refusing to turn Peter, and in doing so he is alienating him from the coven. The coven can accept Peter as Lucien’s bedmate, but they are not willing to accept a human as their master. I liked that the author didn’t choose the easy, and fast, way to resolve this contrast, but she preferred to give to Peter the chance to prove himself to be worthy of being a leader, even without being turned to be so.

To start with a quote, this is something that Peter said, and that is exactly my idea about the vampires in this book!!
This had to be the queerest coven in history.

I liked the book, much more of the previous! Ok, true, Peter is a petulant, spoiled, self-centered crybaby! I will not deny it! Sometimes I found myself talking with the book (Ok, I'm not so crazy like it seems! Just to say.), saying to Lucien to take that brat, slap him a little and put a little bit of sense in his brain!!!

But then the story took me in... I love the new characters, and the old ones that took much space in this book! Yes, I'm referring to a certain demon and to a stubborn wolf (Not dog! Wolf! Ok, Lucien?)!!! I love them!! And yes, to the new vampire, too. He intrigues me!

And then, there is Xander! I like very much the bond between him and Peter! Is something that is love, though is not LOVE. And to me, it seems it is something pure, something beyond sex, beyond physicality. Something more. Poor guy, whoever he will be, that will became Xander's mate! I think Peter will be a hell of mother(?)-in-law!!!
I have to say one more thing about the wolf! Some of the best hilarious scenes are with him!!! Like when...
They were all quiet for a moment, but Lucien finally spoke. "You fed from us, lover. All three of us, at the same time."
I blinked. "I don't know what you mean. I didn't take blood from any of you."
Nikolas snorted. "Tell that to my cock."
"Not blood, Peter," Lucien said. "You fed from us as I've been able to feed at the club—from a distance."
"Except we were all touching so it was like" Xander paused. "Like can we fucking do it again right now? Please."

However, I was left with a question at the end of this book. The bad guy... what happened to him???
Ok, one has been confined in the dungeon, but the other? The real big bad guy? Have I lost something? Because I cannot understand what happended to him, really!

Four stars.

I will give this book the same review I gave the first book in this series Soul Mates: Bound by Blood.

One of my down falls when it comes to reading, is that I read so many books that I can't remember ALOT of them, therefor it takes an amazing book that I literally can not put down for me to remember it, THIS IS ONE OF THOSE AMAZING BOOKS!

SOUL MATES: DECEPTION has everything that I love in a vampire romance: sex, romance (dahh), passion, danger, blood, awesome supporting characters and of corse strong/sexy main characters.

I will not go into the plot and specific characters of the book because I think you should all read it for yourself, although i will say that i love every single character in this book. It also sets it up well for the next book in the series.
I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys any of the things that I have listed above.

Also I would like to add that I have read every book in this series at least 5 times, and I loved every word every single time I read it!

(Sigh . . .) I have got to stop reading sequels. I loved the first book in this series, but in the first couple of pages of this book everything they struggled so hard to achieve had come undone. And really, what should I expect? You can't have good drama without some conflict, and the best way to get that conflict is to show how the MCs relationship isn't really as peachy as they left it last time. I don't like to read that a couple I was rooting so strongly for is now drifting apart. So - really - I should just stop reading sequels.

Beyond that, I also don't find Caleb's change in personality believable. If you need someone to be that character, why not have it be someone who at least hinted at those kinds of personalities in the first novel? Why did it have to be Caleb, when there were other, more believable options? To so completely change someone's personality from one book to the other without any transition at all just seems lazy.

But I'm hooked. I'll keep soldiering on, hoping they eventually work all this crap out.

My problem with this series began with Book #2, Deception. The plot was all over the place and there were times when I just didn't know where the story was going. I didn't know what the heck happened but it definitely was not to my liking. Peter and Lucien began having relationship problems, as Peter wanted to be turned into a vampire and Lucien refused to turn him. Peter's answer is to have sex with the males he finds attractive (which at one point seems to be everyone around), but he wants Lucien to be faithful to him. In other words, he wants his cake and wants to eat it too. Ugh! There's also a storyline where there's a betrayal by a very close friend. In Deception, Peter turns into this spoiled character that has tantrums every other minute and this drove me crazy. His characterization is inconsistent -- one minute he seemed tough and the next a total spoiled brat, and frankly, I couldn't understand why everyone in the Coven thought he was such a hot tamale.

I liked this one better than the first one, there was just as much sex, but there was also more relationship and that's what I love in my books.

The problem though is just that I get so bored when books are super repetitive and all there is is sex. What can I say I like sexual tension over characters actual fulfilling their desires. Anyway, it seemed like a lot of the plot from the first book about the serum and rogue hunters was missing from this one and for the length of the book nothing really happens. You don't find out what's up with Peter, and that was the most brought up topic in the book.

I'm thinking this one might be more of a filler and about showing how Peter ad Lucian can work together as a couple then it was about an actual plot.

Anyway, lots of people love the series and I will eventually get to reading the third so yes I would recommend this to anyone looking for a vampire and humanoid (cause really he's not human anymore) love story.

I bought into the series by the first book...so very different. all male cast of Vampires. Weres. Demons. and Angels and Peter our not 100 per sent human.

Jouran Lane has woven a web of lust, sex and intrigue into this wonderful story.

Peter was the only one for Lucien...The first book set the love story. The second set the committment.

The weres/lycans want Peter for their Alpha. Lucien the Head Master Vampire of the coven has brought Peter the Human as the Masters Partner much to the dismay of some of the coven members. We are watching the innocent Peter. learn the ways of this world, learning thru sex, blood and touch who he can trust and always follow Lucien..

Book 3 will be interesting..

AWESOME........AWESOME.............The storyline is moving along nicely and I'm so curious as to "what" Peter is. LOVE the new characters, Logan and Saaban. (visualizing Saaban using his tail in naughty, naughty ways lol)

I can't believe the betrayal. I was heartbroken..............
The sex was so steamy and raw, hard to believe I'm finding myself liking m/m sex better then m/f sex. lol It's just so damn erotic and intimate...........

Anyway, before I need another cold shower, I'll just say that this series is quickly becoming my FAVORITE (a top 5 favorite) and can't wait to read the other 2 books(that are coming in the mail any day now........)to find out what happens.

This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

If you like gay vampires this series is for you. Very well written and very erotic. The models on the cover of these books fit perfectly to the characters. And what a cast of characters.

Lucien, a vampire, seduces Peter. The first time they have sex, Petere lets Lucien bite him and their life together begins.

It has vampires, werewolves, demons, vampire hunters.

I really love vampire stories because there is always eroticism associated with them. I really would love to see a movie or series made out of this, but with all the adult scenes too. ;)

I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
