The clarity of thought in this book is remarkable. Lays out the core problems of epistemology - how do we know and how can we be sure of what we know - and then connects them to ontological debates. The most valuable aspect for me was his style of critique, particularly, how he exposes the poverty of 'western' philosophical thought post Descartes and Kant.
The book may be read before Allama Tabatabai's Bidaya and Nihaya. In his Bidaya, Tabatabai begins not with the question of epistemology but rather ontology (existence as the self-evident ontological principle), and yet Tabatabai (partially) invokes epistemological arguments to develop and advance his framework of philosophy. So a background in epistemology may be helpful to engage with Bidaya more deeply and in connection to other (possible) ontological principles (such as, 'in the beginning, or in principle, was consciousness' - see S. Hossein Nasr's online talk).
The Introduction of 'Our Philosophy' compares Capitalism and Marxism and argues that both systems are based on materialist worldviews and can't resolve humanity's crises which have deeper roots. (Again, reading Hossein Nasr in this connection, such as his 'Man and Nature', may be insightful. Shariati's 'Marxism and Other Western Fallacies' and Guenon's 'The Crisis of the Modern World' are similarly relevant.)
The Introduction is intended for not just this book but also the subsequent two in the series, namely, 'Our Economics' and 'Our Society'. The last never saw the light of day (to my knowledge) for one reason or another, and Sadr was martyred by Saddam's regime. But there are other books by Sadr (such as, 'The Trends of History in the Quran') and lectures/notes (supposedly) collected by his students from which one can glean some sense of what Sadr might have had in mind.
monumental expository writing I say. at a glance, this Thomistic style of writing seems like only attacking Marxism. but Marxism, which is the main subject under consideration in this hook, convey doctrines that underlie many other ideologies. therefore, concentrating the attack on Marxism is tantamount to answering those ideologies. splendidly written and plotted.
