Althouth this book was what i had to read for my final exams and it was actually the one that we finally get examed on,that didn't make me hate it (i mean the exams were so hard they eventually dropped my overall grades). An amazing book i was so glad to read, with a difficult but wonderfull language and really vivid character descriptions!
The ending and how it kind of leaves some loose ends and makes you think and feel stuff.
Couple stuff I wanted to point out:
I read (畏 桅蠈谓喂蟽蟽伪) recently and I couldn't help but draw mental comparisons. It's really interesting reading those two books back to back as there are a lot of similarities, differences and parallels. How girls are valued in one novel and devalued in another, the difference in relationships between mothers and sons.
Again, the way kids are treated (their death, their upbringing ect) is so obviously different. For example the mother in the story wishes God would take one of her boys instead of taking her dying girl. And after the narrator hears this and snaps at her, he is the one who feels like he has unfairly burdened her. The son is supposed to handle complex and difficult emotions just like an adult. And that is definitely different from what we would find acceptable now. On the other hand it is completely understandable given the harshness of the time period.
Overall I liked the Murderess better but this was not bad.
