Robert Kirkman is an American comic book writer best known for his work on The Walking Dead, Invincible for Image Comics, as well as Ultimate X-Men and Marvel Zombies for Marvel Comics. He has also collaborated with Image Comics co-founder Todd McFarlane on the series Haunt. He is one of the five partners of Image Comics, and the only one of the five who was not one of the original co-founders of that publisher.

Robert Kirkman's first comic books were self-published under his own Funk-o-Tron label. Along with childhood friend Tony Moore, Kirkman created Battle Pope which was published in late 2001. Battle Pope ran for over 2 years along with other Funk-o-Tron published books such as InkPunks and Double Take.

In July of 2002, Robert's first work for another company began, with a 4-part SuperPatriot series for Image, along with Battle Pope backup story artist Cory Walker. Robert's creator-owned projects followed shortly thereafter, including Tech Jacket, Invincible and Walking Dead.

Angstrom Levy finally strikes and there are casualties and a lot of devastation, only for the arrival of Conquest, the Viltrumites are here! Some draw dropping fight plots and scenes ensue; this series has not been this dark = good, since Omni-Man's rampage. Fine Four star, 9 out of 12 read.

HOLY FUCKING SHITTTTTTT!!!!!!

I forgot how much I loved this fight. BUt back up, let's talk about the start of this volume.

So what happens when Invisibles from all different universes come to ours? Oh fuck, hell breaks loose and we only have one Invincible to help. These invisibles are just as strong as ours and way more fucking evil. A lot of our heroes from all over the world start getting killed and beaten. The end result is sad and screwed up.

BUT WAIT! There's no time to sit back and breath. Conquest shows up. Who is this? Think Nappa + Winter Solider + Crazy fucking evil asshole. That's right. In the middle of almost all our heroes being down Invincible faces one of his own, one of the strongest, and the fight is scary, terrifying, and insane all at once. Each page you get more and more scared when Conquest tears through the city with Invisible in his hands.

This is one of the best fucking fights ever to touch COMICS. Yep, I'm making that statement right now. I can't even talk about some of the major twist because they need to be read but goddamn this fight just gets your blood boils.

To end it we go to a funeral. No spoilers but it's sad, heartbreaking, but we see a new Mark...one we might not like as much.

This is what I read comics for. 5 out of 5 baby!

We knew this was coming, but damn it hit hard when it did. A really old one came to own Mark, and the battle was very brutal.

Mind you, if you know the series, most of the battles are amazingly brutal. But this one is brutal FOR this series.

Levi is back, brings a bunch of friends *lol* and without spoiling anything, I am just going to say that EVERYWHERE is toast. And then the battle really starts.

This is the kind of thing that needs a gigantic retcon to keep a series going, but damn, in the meantime, it's gorgeous/horrible.

THIS WAS INSANE! Best volume so far? It's just spectacular. It doesn't pull any punches. We start the action immediately and the violence and chaos do not stop until the very last page. If we thought Angstrom Levy's first attack against Invincible was a crucial moment for Mark, that was minimal compared to this. This is the point of no return for Mark. He will show no mercy anymore and to be honest, I can't fault the guy.
This is almost a perfect volume if it were not for the two flaws I hold against Invincible and Kirkman's overall writing on Invincible: 1. 95% of character that die (even when shown the body on the page) do not stay dead. 2. Atom Eve. Fuck, I dislike her so much you guys, I have tried. I truly have. But in this volume we have Mark acting irrationally and erratically because of Eve. And then the stupid moments of her giving herself boobs? The most painful thing I have read in 65 issues so far. I'm dreading what's coming in my re-read between those two.

Also, I was reading my original review and not me referencing Days of Future Past, damn that's so old and dated nowadays.

Original review from 2016:

First Reaction: Conchatumadre We-ón (This isn't spanish, it is ''chilean'' btw.)
5 STARS. 100 STARS. 1000 STARS.

Coherent Review:
Have you seen the movie X-Men: Days of Future Past? The opening scene is chaos and havoc, everyone is getting killed immediately and you're like What the fuck is happening here?! You're thrown in the middle of the action and goddamn is intense and amazing and you can't catch a break. That's exactly how Invincible, Vol.12: Still Standing starts and it doesn't slow down. It's spectacular, surprising, action-packed and violent, there's no spare of bloodshed and then when you think everything has stopped, when the conflict has come to an end, Robert Kirkman throws another punch. My gosh Kirkman you're a cruel, cruel man, but I loved everything in this volume. Well, 99% of everything... (Eve... I still can't like this girl)

Even though the first big confrontation was full of jumps and at times there were panels from others battle scenes that can feel shoved in there, I personally enjoyed how these days of battles were presented. I think it was a great technique, because as our heroes, you don't ever catch a break. This destruction is global and you have to pay attention to every illustration, every character, they are all in danger. It is intense, stressful, difficult to watch, but most importantly it was so, so good.

But why was this such a genius move? Man, what a fantastic read!

The artwork is amazing. There are some great double page panels and, because this was my first time since Volume 1 reading a physical copy, I couldn't believe how beautiful some illustrations were! Damn those Ultimate Collections, they are worth every euro I spent. Fuck digital, I'm buying the whole collection. Plascencia keeps doing an amazing job as the colorist and Ottley has never been better. There were some grotesque illustrations in here, a lot of gore, and there was one in particular with a certain character... dressed in white... where I honestly felt like wanting to throw up.

Everything, from the plot, the artwork, the coloring, the writing, was fantastic. I can't stop praising this, it is by far the best volume so far. Which is remarkable given the fact that we still didn't get any of my favorite Alien and his now Viltrumite best friend, which happens to be my favorite storyline. I can't imagine how great that will get. I need to keep reading because I can't imagine what other surprises Kirkman has prepared.

This was just fantastic , This was action packed from the first page to the last , this was dripping in gore , This had Breast enhancement...err... yeah

As I stated a few lines ago this was action packed from the get go , as Angstorm puts forward his evil plan and boy oh boy ! It's damn sure is Evil. Although much of the action was unseen and the end of the plan came a bit abruptly , it just was so impactful . Not to mention soon after another big baddy shows up and That fight went even beyond the Omni-man battle .

It was just panels after panels of breathless action and entertainment and once the dust settled you could tell that things have changed , that the story has been impacted. Where this is all headed , I can't wait to find out , for now however, THIS here is the best Invincible Comics I have read this year

Tons of action told in a very brutal bloody fashion! Invincible is one tough young guy. Seems to have the weight of the world on his shoulders.

Mark takes on a Viltrumite and kicks ass...but he also got his ass kicked too but Mark won lol. I wonder what the Viltrumite War will be like. It’s gotta be crazy bloody and heart rending. I think a lot of good characters are going to die buuuut I’ll see when that volume comes.

The perfect volume of invincible.
This is the best so far and one of the best if not the best volume of the entire series.
It has big scale fights, stakes, deaths, consequences, character development and a huge turning point for our favorite main character invincible. And it fits perfectly for the 12/25 volumes. Mild spoilers ahead I guess.

The first thing I want to talk about is the invincible war. It’s the first comic event of the series and they actually put every superhero on image comics slate in here. And it doesn’t feel forced it feels necessary.
Because the threat the world is facing requires every superhero there is and that might not be enough after all. Imagine earths strongest superhero times a lot (idk exactly how many there were) trying to destroy the earth. I know the chances of beating that threat seem slim and they definitely are. But with the combined effort of all of earths heroes and the sacrifice of some of them they actually win(sort of). And it doesn’t feel unrealistic because a lot of heroes die and all the other heroes are badly hurt and they still don’t defeat all of the attackers. The way the war is ended and the standoff between the mastermind behind the war and invincible is kind of rushed, but i think it is enough to impact mark and set up future story’s. Also the character design of angstrom levy 😮‍.

Now after the invincible war follows the aftermath of the invincible war. Which makes sense but normally this part would be skipped. Nobody wants to see the heroes rebuild the destroyed cities or mourn their fallen colleagues, right? Well, I do. The first big event of the series has to leave a mark on mark lol and on the whole world. And it does. Mark is conflicted, he feels guilty and he is questioning his ways of saving. Heroes died, city’s got destroyed and people start questioning marks intentions.

And he didn’t have enough problems at the time, so the strongest villain he ever faced just decided to show up out of nowhere. I remember reading this for the first time and I would never have expected it. We always knew someone would come but we didn’t know when and letting this guy loose on mark or rather letting mark loose on this guy was timed perfectly. Because mark was mad and he had no remorse left for villains who threatened the lives of the people he loves. So I think if the fight would have occurred at any other time it wouldn’t have been that great and mark propably wouldn’t have won. And that’s basically what makes this fight one of the greatest fights in the entire book. Not only the character design of conquest (the villain) and the art and paneling of the fight ist pure perfection. But also the way mark beats him is just brutal.

At the end of the volume and simultaneously at the end of the first half of invincible we witness one of the biggest turning points in invicibles life as a superhero. And it makes the future feel uncertain and not too promising for our young hero. The reason being, that we see small glimpses of invicibles viltrumite side getting the best of him throughout the series. And after what we saw in the invincible war and what he said at the end of the volume we can’t help but worry about him losing his way.

This volume has me the most excited to see adapted in the animated series. I know it will be many years but i will be waiting and when the time comes I will be watching.

Invincible is the best superhero comic book in the universe.

Okay, so, wow. That was the most insane volume of this comic yet. And I feel like I've said that at least two other times, but it's true, and somehow Kirkman just keeps upping the ante. This one was all bite, no bark. He's all but bludgeoning us over the head for six issues in a row of non-stop, fast-paced, world-shattering storytelling. And, as if any of us have forgotten, we are reminded why Invincible must always be in contention for "most violent superhero comic" of all time.

The events herein surround Angstrom Levy's alternate-dimension Invincibles plan, and then run smack dab into a little visit to Earth by a Viltrumite named Conquest, and trust me, you cannot put this one down. The sequence of events is so intense that I was literally waiting for some plot device to be introduced that would reverse it all. It was just that crazy, that I thought surely it couldn't stand. Something would happen to make it all right again. How naïve of me, to doubt Robert Kirkman.

And also, it must be said as it has been said many times before, Ryan fucking Ottley. This dude is putting in work. These are busy, busy panels. High action, an enormous cast of characters, complex movements and scenery, and he isn't just keeping up, he's nailing it. Big ups to inker Cliff Rathburn and colorist Fco Plascencia on this volume too. Just stellar work all around.

Around the halfway mark, this story is not wavering at all, as I once feared it would. I'm all in for this right now, eager to see what comes next.

Probably the best volume of the series when Armstrong Levi sends the alt universe Invincibles to attack and this book goes from top to even more top, it guest starts the heroes of the entire Image comics and we see Spawn, Savage dragon and what not and then we have them wreak havoc, some die but they kill many heroes and so many cities are destroyed and civilians die and then the real Armstrong comes in and he battles Mark and its epic but he escapes after being beaten and then we have the recovery efforts and eulogies, only for CONQUEST to come in, he is a Viltrumite and his fight with Mark is epic and brutal and blood is being bashed, Eve severely injured and all and then when Mark kills him its just wow, walking dead level feels. And then in the background threats multiplying - the Vitrumites, Armstrong Levi and the SEQUIDS! Just wow, the world building of threats is insane and the big payoff is coming now!

A legion of alternate universe Invincibles, headed by Angstrom Levy, attack the Earth and fight every superhero in Image Comics (whether they're from Invincible or not). It definitely feels like a big crossover event you would see at Marvel or DC, but knowing it's Invincible means that it's not cheap. The deaths are real, the destruction doesn't happen every single day, and the consequences (likely) aren't going to be retconned away a couple years down the line. There's no "status quo" to come back to in a growing creator-owned universe like Invincible, so the plot and character progression hits harder than any dozens of "event" comics from other publishers. Maybe this volume will be worse in retrospect if the changes end up getting reversed (as Robert Kirkman tends to do with most plot points, from what I've read so far) but on a first read it's a breath of fresh air for the series.

Invincible Vol. 12 collects issues 60-65 of the series by Robert Kirkman and Ryan Ottley.

Langstrom is back and has collected a group of evil Invincibles from other dimensions to attack Earth and get his revenge. Heroes from across the Image comic line gather together to save the day. Shortly after, Mark has his greatest battle yet with a Viltrumite agent sent to make sure Earth is being prepared or he will demolish everything in his wake.

This was a great collection with a TON of heavy action. There are some amazing splash pages and full page action sequences that Ryan and Bill absolutely knock out of the park. It is amazing how Kirkman unleashes story after story all the while continuing to build up even bigger problems for our hero. He is a master craftsman!

Incredibly bleak and dark (even a kid gets mangled). Blood and gore isn't endearing to me at all, but I still want to see how this series progresses. I really had to look away for this volume. I was wincing through every page. I think this is the most violent (superhero) comic I've legit ever read, just nonstop bloodbath. If they wanted to cement the Viltrumites as the bloodthirsty warriors they are, they wholeheartedly succeeded.

SN: I love the moral grayness of Cecil.

this is best of invincible (so far)

Since Omniman’s betrayal, which was early on, and I think at this point well known, most of this series had plots, conflicts, and major tropes that I’ve seen before in superhero comics

This arc, not only was unique to me, but was elevated in every sense from the art, the scale, the emotion just wow

Frankly up until this point, I was very “meh about this series but this really kicked it up and had made the entire series worth it

Um...so the amazing fight sequence that starts this volume off...is the feakin' WARM UP.

I'm not exactly a "gore-hound" these days, but some of the detail in the this volume is the best in the series. Sometimes even generating audible gasps.

This entire book advances characters, overall story, and a ton of side-arcs.

If I ever get a chance to get an autograph from Kirkman it may well be a request for "Soon." LOL

By far the best volume collection is issues so far which matches up with the end of season 3 which is also the best set of episodes. Stopping here for now on the invincible read list since I’m caught up with the show. Kind of want to read ahead but honestly enjoy watching the show then reading the comics.

Shit gets real in this volume - and by real I mean gory as all get out. Yikes. Did I mention I was reading this on my work computer at the library? There should be some kind of warning before volumes you can't read at a public computer, man.

Anyway, love the evil alternate-universe Invincibles, like Atom Eve's Phoenix moment, continue to like how this series isn't afraid to shake up status quo. The major series can't make major changes without hitting the reset button a couple months later - it's good to see a series that can just slash and burn whatever it wants to.

The only part of this I didn’t love, but I get, is how much destruction the other Invincibles from other dimensions caused. At some point so much destruction becomes a little overwhelming. Otherwise the fight between Invincible and Conquest was awesome. I really hope Eve is okay!!!
