Dan Brown

Dan Brown is the author of numerous #1 bestselling novels, including The Da Vinci Code, which has become one of the best selling novels of all time as well as the subject of intellectual debate among readers and scholars. Brown’s novels are published in 56 languages around the world with over 200 million copies in print.

In 2005, Brown was named one of the 100 Most Influential People in the World by TIME Magazine, whose editors credited him with “keeping the publishing industry afloat; renewed interest in Leonardo da Vinci and early Christian history; spiking tourism to Paris and Rome; a growing membership in secret societies; the ire of Cardinals in Rome; eight books denying the claims of the novel and seven guides to read along with it; a flood of historical thrillers; and a major motion picture franchise.

The son of a mathematics teacher and a church organist, Brown was raised on a prep school campus where he developed a fascination with the paradoxical interplay between science and religion. These themes eventually formed the backdrop for his books. He is a graduate of Amherst College and Phillips Exeter Academy, where he later returned to teach English before focusing his attention full time to writing. He lives in New England with his yellow lab, Winston.

Brown’s latest novel, Origin, explores two of the fundamental questions of humankind: Where do we come from? Where are we going?

This is the second time reading a Dan Brown novel and they are all so amazing! This is one of or the best books I have read. I found myself believing every word in the book but I had to remember what I reading wasn’t real. I was amazed how detailed the maps and the description about the Vatican City. I felt like I could use the maps to navigate myself through the city. They show how much thought he put into the writing his books. I also loved the novel because of its daring main character Robert Langdon. He is the ultimate detective and solves almost any crime that is brought to him. The word he used in the novel was so interesting. Some of the words I didn’t even know, I had to look them up but it took nothing away from how interesting the book was. The book is mainly a bout a detective who is trying to solve a murder at the Vatican City and ends up having to the save the entire world. This book is similar to any thriller it keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time. It is very similar to Dan Brown’s other novel The Da Vinci Code they are both so similar. My favorite quote from the story was “I’m academic. My mind tells me I will never understand God. It shows how complex the main character Robert Langdon is.

This was the first book I've read of Dan Brown's books. I didn't know what to expect but I knew that his books were very good. This book begins with a famous scientist (Leonardo Vetra) who is killed because he is doing a mysterious and dangerous experiement. This begings the journey of Vetra's daughter along with Langdon who is the main character. As they are figuring out the murderer they find out that there is a far more dangerous conspiracy being unraveled. I'd recommend this book to anyone who loves to read and likes mystery. This book is also very long so that is the only downside.

Read this book last year, borrowed from my aunt's friend. But have watched this movie last year as well. Really like the story even though it was quite hard to understand the story at first because it consists of hidden agenda. It's quite confusing which one is the protagonist and which one is the villain. No wonder the title of the story is "Angels and demons". The story is tricky as well where at the end of the story the villain is revealed as the one whom I thought is a protagonist at the beginning. Prefer this one rather than the davinci code. Nice story, it makes me think!

dan brown expressed a dramatic, historic, religious, scientific saga in this book, and he did it very well. wonderful way of writing, wonderful story to tell, endless twists and shocks, extra thrilling, very informative and educating but never boring. but words can be hard to understand for some middle readers and people who had just learnt speaking english fluently. no adults-only material, if u're a teen who would understand it, don't think twice and read it. highly recommended for everyone who wouldn't consider themselves as an early middle reader or lower. just read and enjoy :)

This is a great book i would recommend to those who are interested in mystery. This book gathers alot of intrique plots and vivid details. the book is basically about this famous and smart scientist is beng killed from doing a mysterious and dangerous experiement testing for anti-matter. He got killed and this led his daughter along with the main character to journey to find out who is the murderer. As they are figuring out, they found a greater conspiracy hidden. I really admire the courage of the main characters and their willingness to share what they discover even though it often puts them in life danger. This reminds me of Transformers, the daredaring inspirits of the main characters...
This book took me a while to finish, if you are the one who prefers a short book, this is not the book for you. If you are the one that would perfer an suspenseful book I dont think the length would be a problem.

Dan Brown mastered the act of suspension which is the secret sauce to this book. Page turning as if your life depended on it while the grand clash of religion and science unveils itself. The plot deserves four stars and provides more food for thought on the interplay between the role of Church and science in society.

The same cannot be said about the climax, where the single melody of the book suddenly turns into a grotesque cacophony of reveals that fight for attention amongst them. Divine interventions, helicopters, character redemptions, martyrdom by fire, complex father-son dynamics: all in the mix for this fireworks display of a finale not on par with the rest of the story.

I found it a good representation of of refering to the past inorder to prepare for the future. When Robert Langdon, a harvard professor, is asked to travel to CERN, the world's largest scientific community of the world, to help solve the murder of one of their top scientists. Along the way he ends up traveling to Vatican City to disarm an extremely strong bomb that is directly below the city that is to go off in less than twenty-four hours, falls in love, and discovers that everyone needs something to believe in.

Another magnificent novel by Dan Brown. I think I enjoyed this one more than "The Da Vinci" code (it held my attention more, as there was more action). It's hard to wrap your head around the complex country of Vatican City, and all the secrets kept there for centuries. I loved reading about the Vatican and following Robert Langdon on his first journey. Another interesting look on science vs. religion and the world we are becoming.

plot was off the charts. it was the darkness that got to me...(spoiler alert) the scene in the church where the man was strung up by his arms (crucified position) and burning alive was the low point for me. still, Dan Brown outdid himself with twists in his plot. His apt use of dialogue to quickly explain complex ideas gave this book the entertaining quality I expected, having read The Davinci Code.

I read this a few years ago but I really enjoyed it. The science is explained well and is believable. I liked the characters and the pace is fast enough but not so fast that they don't have time for the details. Several folks that I know who have read The Da Vinci Code have told me this is the better book.

Plot interesting with a good twist. However, facts and fiction are conveniently blurred. Reader is asked to accept premises based on reality that are simply not true. If you read this book as entirely fictional the story is very enjoyable. If the story is meant to be planted in reality, the "real" universe is disengaged from reality.

Another great mystery book. Dan Brown has a gift in making you think one thing that is totally wrong. You et lost in his quests and you dont even realize it. I even learned some things about Rome in here as well. The end is always a surprise!
Book was better than movie. They changed some parts in the movie which should have stayed the same.

I like this book. Like all of the Dan Brown books I've read, but it takes a lot of your attention and is not for light reading. It's work, but fun work. As always I enjoyed the history lessons mixed with fiction.

Saw the movie but never read the book...I'm glad I did! The most amazing story of the secret Order of the Illuminati and the battle between good and evil.... Religion and history is revealed in a way that leaves you an expert on the secrets of the Vatican...a great read...

I'm pretty sure no one could fall four miles out of a helicopter and survive. This book was recommended to me because of the Rome setting and all the Bernini references. I prefer more believable action novels.

I picked this book up at an airport just to have something to read during a flight to Spain. I had a hard time putting it down. Once I finished the book, I couldn't wait to see the movie. Be warned the book is much better.

I read this when it first came out it was really good. And i forgot about it until now. Had deep descriptions and had good a good story line like the movie. I noticed the whole time he just looks for the illuminati. At the end he finds what he is looking for.

Loved it better than The DaVinci Code. I am not sure why this didn't get the recognition that its counterpart got.
