قرأت هذا الكتاب بحبٍ وحنين لزمنٍ جميلٍ حدثت فيه نفسي أنه في وقت بعيد كانت هناك نساء، ذوات فصاحة وعلم وأدبٍ ومواقف عظيمةٍ، وددت لو أني ألتقي خديجة رضى الله عنها، أحبُ هذه المرأة حبا كبيرا ، لأنها وقّرت رسول الله وبرّته ولم تشقه كزوجة ولم تنكد عليه قط، تفاصيل كثيرة في الكتاب عن هؤلاء النسوة أعادتني إلى ما يجب أن نكون عليه اليوم.
جلست باعتدال على مكتبي أكتب مذكراتي ، وأنا أفكر فيهن، كيف كانت الواحدة منهم سويةً وقويةً وناعمة، صاحبة علم وأدب وطاعة لزوجها تحمل كل هذا في قلبها وفي شخصيتها.
قراءة لذيذة أشعلت في نفسي تصوراتٍ حالمةً أنني سأقتني يوما ما نسخة ورقية من الكتاب لمكتبتي ولأطفالي ، وكما اعتادت أمي معي في صغري، تصورت أنه في ذات مساء شتوي جميلٍ أنني سأقرأُ لابنتي في أشهرها الأولى هذا الكتاب بصوت مسموعٍ وأنا أهدهدها لتنام وأخبرها أن تكون كما الصحابيات.. إذا رزقني الله ذلك.

I LOVED this book!
It is one of my favorite Islamic books I've read this year. It was the best book I've found in English that gives a biography of all of the Mothers of the believers as well as many of the female Companions to the Prophet Muhammad. I felt as if I could understand each woman's personality and life story better after reading this. I highly recommend it to any Muslim - male or female. May we all be as pious as these awesome women one day! ❤️

Thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it to everyone (male or female). The women around the Messenger � are not only an inspiration for us but a reflection of the Messenger �'s teachings, which we can learn from. This books aims to sketch out the life of the female companions of the Prophet � and it does just that. Muhammad Ali Qutb does a good job narrating and depicting their lives, it's quite emotive and paints a vivid picture. Verses of the Qur'an were regularly quoted along with the background of revelation or any relevant tafsir to the seerah, it meant the reader could formulate a timeline of their own and worked really well. The author chronologically narrates the lives rather than just mentioning one or two points, so we could view their lives as a whole rather than just one aspect, and put everything into context.
But...the one thing that kinda irked me throughout was the lack of referencing...I know this isn't an issue for some, but I find it a little annoying when the referencing isn't consistent. Especially when mentioning pieces of information which aren't as popular, I think the reader (i.e. I) would have benefited from references. It was quite emotive and descriptive also, so it just made it difficult to decipher what was the author's writing (as he was quite passionate at points) and what was hadith. It's possible some of the less popular information was relying on weaker ahādith which isn't an issue, I just would have preferred consistent references lol.
Another point which could be improved is maybe adding the Arabic for the poetry which had been translated, but perhaps that's just me 🤷
Since it's a translation some words could've been swapped for others perhaps, but overall I thought it was a great and beneficial book and it can be overlooked. A point to raise is that this book is often recommended to women only, in reality this is a part of history and religion all Muslims ought to be aware of.
p.s. i really liked the paper quality of my copy

من أجمل الكتب التي قرأتها مؤخرا, يقص عليك الكاتب بأسلوب سلس ممتع حول نساء عاشرن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم, لم يقتصر فيها على أزواجه رضوان الله عليهن إنما شمل بناته و عماته و حتى صحابياتٍ لا تربطهن بالرسول صلة قرابة, أنصح به و بشدة لمن يملك الفضول للتعرف على أحداث لم يسمع بها من قبل.
قد يبدو الكتاب طويل للوهلة الأولى, لكن محتواه يمكّنك من قرائته في أي وقت لأنه عبارة عن قصص منفصلة.

First of all, I started reading this book because I thought it would help me write a certain paper about women in Islam for a course I'm taking now. I wanted to find some interesting things about the contributions of women during that time, and honestly I was expecting the stories to be well..."historical documentations" of what happened 1400 years ago. Still, I was initially happy to come across it anyway, since the topic does seem quite interesting. Also, from the title I instantly thought that this was going to be a unique book.
I was very disappointed though, since what I ended up reading, was something that very much resembled what seemed like a historical fiction book. Basically. Having said that, from a very early stage I realized that I just couldn't take this writer seriously. Qutb thinks that he can actually narrate what goes on inside the minds of these characters that existed centuries ago. It's difficult finding information about them as it is, but knowing what goes on in their minds? Who does this guy think he is exactly?
Example: "She would reflect and go far with her imaginations, and she would cast her vision unto the horizons. Then she would come back to reality waiting..."
He literally tells you what each and every character is thinking. He will even tell you what the Prophet (pbuh) will be thinking. Seriously, how does this guy come up with this? I understand that sometimes, you can make assumptions based on what is told, but Qutb is really trying to make everything just a lot more dramatic than it has to be.
Another thing that really made me feel uncomfortable, and quite frankly insulted, is how the writer is just plainly and openly sexist sometimes. For example:
1. Sawdah was a widow....She was very dark in complexion, slow and fat. But she had a clean heart and was one of the truthful believers. In spite of her being slow and fat...."
....excuse me? Why does this guy need to mention that this woman is dark/fat/slow? And why does he need to tell me that her dark complexion/slowness/weight does not stop her from being a "truthful believer"? He does this again way later in the book where he says: "Then he married Sawdah, the rather overweight woman"
2. "Though her head was covered with gray hair, her heart was still exuberating with faith"
Again, why is it important for him to link her age with her beliefs?
3. "The jealousy is found in both male and female but it is more pronounced in the female. It emanates from self-centredness. In some cases, the trait can overwhelm all other feelings..."
4. "O' mothers of today! O' Muslim ladies! Perhaps, this will make you go back to the reality of your roles in life and your responsibility in..."
Okay........
Anyway, this guy LOVES to used fruits as metaphors when he's talking about women, he does this so many times and by the end of the book I genuinely believe this is the only way he can describe them.
"Al-Khansa was of the noblest plants in terms of origin, growth and fruits"
Zaynab was of fine and noble origin. This, along with her pure religion, blossomed and produced in her great fruits: she was very pious. The fragrance of her piety spread with her name and whenever she is mentioned and the pleasant fruits of this piety flow abundantly from her hands"
"She drew from its pure spring until she was satiated and she flourished as a blooming and sweet-smelling branch, bearing a delicious fruit."
Did I already mention that this guy really likes to be overly-dramatic?
Honestly, the book overall was just not reliable. Sometimes, I tried to search the stories elsewhere, but there seems to be many things that he may have added to make things dramatic, or perhaps to add more content. He never mentions anything about there being other variations of each story, he does not talk about why he chose the versions he wrote about. His writing is very repetitive and he uses too many exclamation marks.
The very ending of the book was dedicated to telling women to follow the examples of the female characters he represented, but did not call for the men to do the same. Why does this guy expect women to be perfect and is not happy with them now, but doesn't talk about the men as well? I guess what he sees in women nowadays does not represent the pious flowers and fruits that he loves so much.

One of the best book holding rightful information about all the women who play intriguing role in prophet's life with their love, care, respect affection and wisdom. Either its a houshold matter or war every women stood steadfastly and were the best examples of courage and bravery.

Very inspiring books. I recommend everyone to read it. It is not only about women around Messenger, but it tells you some of the events that were happened during The Prophet's (pbuh) Life. Reading this book, I feel that I want to improve myself as a Muslim, sister, daughter, future wife and friends.

نساء حول الرسول هو كتاب جامع لتراجم و قصص نساء اللاتي عايشن الرسول الكريم عليه افضل الصلاة و السلام سواءا كن امهاته أو أزواجه, بناته او الصحابيات الجليلات رضي الله عنهن و أرضاه.
هناك تكرار لسرد بعض القصص أكثر من مرة نظرا لتداخل حياة الصحابيات, أمهات المؤمنين؛ بناته و حفيداته

LOVE to the PROPHET MUHAMMAD صلى الله عليه وسلم, BRAVERY casted to protect our Deen, الإسلام, PATIENCE prolonged for the bitter circumstances, and ENDURANCE of PAIN of loss--- These are what I understood and learned from this must-read book, "Women Around the Messenger" authored by Muhammad Ali Qutb.
Every woman mentioned in this certain book that attached to the Messenger's life has indeed a depth significance.
Hence, I encourage every Muslimah to read, evaluate, learn then apply to one's self.

A wonderful well written account of all theses women involved in the life of this amazing man, I am currently using this book with a girls galah group and they love it! They also have men around the messenger. I have a hard copy should you need it Ammena.

هذا الكتاب رائع جدّا، خصوصًا لنا، نحن معشر النساء.
أراني هذا الكتاب صورة المرأة المسلمة الحقيقية، وكيف المرأة ذات موقف ثابت منذ بداية الدعوة الإسلامية، وهذا لم يكن سهلًا بالطبع.
كنت دائمًا ما أنظر للصحابة كمثل أعلى، أما الآن فهن مثلي الأعلى أيضًا، رضي الله عنهم جميعُا وأرضاهم.

Women Around the Messenger details the lives of the women who have raised, influenced, supported, loved and died for our beloved Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. The stories of these remarkable women are told in an educational narrative, yet the prose flows beautifully with the support of verses from the Quran and authentic narrations.
I like how the book addresses that the modern world are advocating women's rights and women's liberation, yet the stories of these women show how Islam has always given women a special place. From Khadeejah's acceptance of Islam, to Nusaybah's quest to fight in war even in her old rage, these stories shed some light that women can shine, especially when they are highly respected by their male counterparts.
This book does not just narrate stories of the Prophet's wives and families. It is also about the women who influenced his closest male companions. ولد ( � ) من أشرف الأرحام وأسماها وأعلاها ، وأبيه فتى قريش الذي فاق أقرانه دلالًا وجمالًا ، وزوجته خديجة سيدةُ نساء العالمين ، وبناته الطاهرات الثلاث وفاطمةُ الزهراء ، وتنطلق الأحرُف والكلمات لتروي ولا تفي بحقٍ سيرة وتاريخ من عاه� النبي ( � ) من النساء فكان� حياتهن -رضي الله عنهن جميعًا- مصابيحَ تُشع هدًى ونوراً فتضيء الكون كله وتعطَّره شذى طيّب النشر يلفُّه من أقصاه إلى أقصاه إزالًا وأبداً ، بك� أم أيمن عندما توفي الرسول ( � ) بُكا� على انقطاع الوحي من السماء ، ووصف� أم معبد النبي ف� قمة الدقة
م� أنه يُقصر كذلك عن إيفاء الخلقة و الخلق المحمدي حقهما إلا أنه طبع صور� ذهنية شريفة عن� ( � ) ، وم� النساء صبر حَمنة رضي الله عنها وهي تتلقى من فم رسول الله إستشهاد أخيها و خالها وزوْجها يوم أُحد ، وعن صبر فاطِمة الزهراء
وهي تتلقى وفاة أبيها ورسول الأمة ( � ) تسبقها وفاة أخواتها الطاهرات ، وعن إيمان أم شُريك وهي تقاوم حرارة الشمس والجوع والعطش والعذاب تمسكًا بدينها ، كانوا رضي الله عنهن كما وصف الكاتب في بيوتهِنّ زوجات وأمهاتٍ أخلد من التاريخ
وكُن في مرافق العلم والمعرفة أساطين لصروحٍ شامخة
وكُنّ في ساحاتِ النضال والوغي فارساتٍ فُقْن الرجالَ إقداما
رضي الله عنهن جميعاً ، وألحقنا الله بهِ وبهم في جنات عُلى مع الذين أنعم الله عليهم من المبيين والصديقين والشُهداء وحَسُن أولئك رفيقًا

لا شيء يصف جمال وروعة هذا الكتاب حتما تمنيت ان أكون واحدة من تلك النساء رضوان الله عليهن
هذا الكتاب جعلني أتعرف على نساء كثير من حياة الرسول عليه الصلاة والسلام مثل بركة ( أم أيمن ) رضي الله عنها حاضنة رسول الله في طفولته والتي كانت جارية حبشية عند أم رسول الله وورثها عنها ثم أعتقها وأسلمت وزوّجها عبيد بن الحارث الخزرجي
بين لي هذا الكتاب مكانة المرأة في الإسلام وكيف كان يعيش رسولنا صلى الله عليه وسلم بين نسائه رضوان الله عليهن
قرأت أيضا عن يوم زواجه صلى الله عليه وسلم بخديجة رضي الله عنها وتملكتني مشاعر عظيمة وكأنني حاضرة المشهد

Yappea mucho en algunas cosas que veo innecesarias y menciona temas políticos, tbh pensaba que iba a ser un libro estrictamente histórico pero el autor añade bastante su opinión. No creo que sea un mal libro para la época en la que fue publicado.
Algunas historias son muy interesantes pero me ha sorprendido que no estuviera la historia de Khawlah bint Tha'laba tbh.

كتاب يحوي بين طياته القصص المعبّرة واللحظات المؤثرة ، وكل قصة بطلته امرأة مربية قدوة.
الجميل هو أسلوب السرد البعيد عن الملل والمناسب لجميع الفئات العمرية، فلست بحاجة لأن تكون علّامة في الدين حتى تفهم المكتوب بل يكفي أن تكو�� عربيًا مسلمًا راغبًا في المعرفة لتستفيد.
لم أكن أفضل تواجد الأبيات الشعرية دون شرح ففصاحة العرب وشعرهم بلغ من البلاغة ما يستعصي فهمه لدى غالبية الناس.
أعجبني.

A great read on understanding the Women around the Beloved Prophet Muhammad SAW. Its an abundance of women empowerment values , as well as the beautiful values that these women have. It is an inspiration for me to a better Muslim women than I am today.
