*4.5* I consider this series a hidden gem in the post-apocalyptic book universe. It's primarily character driven, with no zombies (but full of human jerks). It is a romance, but it's a SLOOOOOOW burn. Don't rush into book one thinking this is your typical post apocalyptic survival story filled with lots of sex.

This continuing story feels authentic with the world building and genuine character interactions. It's not insta-anything. I LOVE these characters, they feel like family. Which also means they’ll annoy you occasionally.

Book 5 picks up a few months after book 4. Frankie has grown up so much since the first book and has learned to value her own unique strengths. She has made huge strides, and we are able to see her fully except her new role as mom to her boys.

Yorke. What can you say about Yorke? He's an alpha protector, former special ops, but gentle and sensitive to his core. He loves his found family deeply and will do anything to keep them safe.

It's taken five books for us to see Frankie and Yorke finally come to terms with their very honest relationship. I don't know that I've ever seen an author take this kind of time to build characters, it's very impressive. The chemistry and passion between Yorke and Frankie was HOT in this one!

Just a heads up, there is a brutal scene near the start of this book that may be difficult for some sensitive readers, please be prepared. This one also ends in a cliffhanger!!

Thanks to Immy for this arc in exchange for my honest review.

Another one inhaled. There I was thinking this was the last one only to reach the end to find out that there’s so much more to come has me beyond excited because I never want it to end.

This series is beyond unique, unpredictable, unputdownable and one of my top reads of 2023.
This threw out all the feels, I love this couple more than I thought was possible, and I can’t imagine Yorke with anyone else other than Frankie.

These books need to be read in order, a slow burn which will get its hooks into you, not high on romance but book by book it builds, she's lost a husband so her grief is always forefrontal, and honestly I didn't mind the way it slowly progressed between these two, funnily enough it gave me a stronger connection with these two.

Woooooooooosh!

Wanted to say a quick thank you to all my much-adored ARC readers. You all are making this release so rewarding.

Thanks everyone for your patience as this one came out. Everyone keeps asking about the next book. (Want to make an author cry--ask them the day of their release when the next book comes. Lol.) It's like running on a glorious, gorgeous, gargantuan hamster wheel. Never break, no horizon in sight, but totally worth it.

I'm already hard at work on book 6, which will be called Chaos. So far, I'm still sticking to my original plan of 9 books. I'm not going to shoot myself in the foot and promise a release date, but hopefully, my hideous bout with writer's woes is in the past, and it won't be too long.

I've got it planned out and life won't be easy for anyone at Thornewood for a while, but the story isn't over, and honestly, I'm really glad. I know I'll cry when I write the final scene from Frankie's POV and again when I write Yorke's final words. I already know the shape of them, the feel of them, but getting them on the page, feeling that last connection with them for ... EVER ever ... it's going to hurt. Like losing family members. So I'm glad I have a few more books to go. Lol.

Anyway, thanks for all the shares, reviews, ratings and reads. You all make this worth it. And seeing it bump up on the sales ranks is giving me a lot of joy.

This book. Wow. It’s amazing. Its’s at once the culmination of everything I’ve been waiting for between Frankie and Yorke, but also so much more. It blew me away. I couldn’t stop reading. Luckily my husband was out of town so I had the house to myself and only had to slow down for the dog!

Frankie and Yorke are at Thornewood with their friends, pretty much right after the last book left off. A bit of time might have passed, but not much. But some things happen (no spoilers) and Frankie is ready to let Jimmy go and be all in with Yorke. Shockingly, he’s the one who wants to hold off for just a bit (don’t worry, he has a good reason and you love him all the more for it), but not for long. They finally are truly a fully fledged couple.

The other characters are built up more too, particularly Shane, Auden, Shasta, Ruby, and we even get background on Ben. Turns out he has a rather tragic past and he wasn’t always such a major dick. But he definitely is in this book.

Imogen Keeper has a unique way of making her characters come to life, making you feel like they’re real people you can imagine knowing, being friends with, maybe hating or loving. Yorke is the absolute best book boyfriend ever. Hands down, he’s my favorite fictional character. Everyone should be so lucky to have a Yorke. I don’t think many men could live up to him. Maybe Thor.

This book is also longer than all the other previous books in the series, a full novel. It explores some of the world outside of the main group and you learn what’s going on around the country. Parts of it brought to mind early seasons of The Walking Dead—not gory, but in a “This is the way the world is now way. Really interesting.

The book does end on a cliffhanger of sorts, but you know it will be resolved.

I’m so glad there will be more coming in this series! And I’m honored I got to read an advanced review copy again. I would give this more stars if I could. I highly recommend it. Do yourself a favor and read this book! If you haven’t read the first four in the series, you can get them as a set and read through pretty quickly. The character growth from the first book to this one is amazing.

Great job!

5 wonderful stars. I would like to a thank Imogen keeper the eARC.

Haven is book 5 in the After the Plague series by Imogen Keeper.
It starts with a prologue about Ben checking into Thornewood. The story continues where we left off in book 4 with Yorke, Frankie and the others from DC.

The inhabitants of thornwood have gotten a groove to growing and getting things ready for the winter months until something dire happens to the group and they must decide if they want to keep following the townies rules or raise an army and rebel.

This happens early on in the story and we are able to see all the characters grow and support each other as they try to navigate the difficulties they’re having with the townies. We also get to see Frankie and Yorke’s characters mature and grow into themselves as well as their relationship.

Thank you for the ARC! I have enjoyed the earlier books in the series and I was excited to read the new installment. Haven is the 5th book in Imogene Keeper’s After the Plague series, and it did not disappoint! In this book I loved how Frankie, Yorke and the boys really became a family. I enjoyed reading both Frankie’s and Yorke’s POV in alternating chapters. The friction between the town and Thornewood really ramped up and was the focus of the book, keeping me turning pages until the end. I only wish didn’t end with so many questions still unanswered. I will anxiously await book 6!

Excellent!

Reread books 1-3, 12/24, while in bed sick- not sure why goodreads wont let me add reviews!

I usually only read series after they are finished, because i just dont have the memory to pick up a year later. I obviously didnt know the series was unfinished. Sadly, i assumed that now that there were 6 books it was finished, but im starting to think that might not be the case. Grrrr.

Im really enjoying the story and the characters. Im not thrilled that the books are so short. The hand drawn covers are gorgeous, but Frankie looks 18 not in her 20s!

SUMMARY OF SERIES BOOKS 1 TO 6
Well, I finished the last book written in the series. Sounds like there are more coming. I hate waiting!!!!!

This was my least favourite book so far. Probably because the community was so much larger and the odds were so against them with the general and the WHW. Also why fire? So wasteful in a post apocalypse world.

Will keep reading. Here is a summary of what happened in books 1 to 6, because I know i will forget :

Frankie was married to Jimmie. Loved him SO much. He was older and took care of things for her. He died. She was ready to give up and die but a dog found her. When she went to return the dog, she found 5 year old orphaned Auden. She took care of him. Eventually she went to find Colleen, who was a reporter who had told survivors to find her. Almost immediately, the WHW, white house woman, red head who was ammassing an army at the whitehouse, tried to get them. Yorke, ex army, joined Frankie and was almost immediately in love with her. They had a slow start because though she quickly came to love him, she still loved dead husband Jimmy. They eventually rejoined Colleen and her group, including Shayne who was 17 and they kinda adopted. And Shasta and her group. Together they went to a boutique hotel in west virginia mountains named thornewood. The people already living in town, Renata and Ben, wanted them to pay taxes. They had a bigger population so they got what they wanted. Renata is conniving and ben is a bully. He took a hammer to shayne's hand. Ben ambushed yorke. Then he kidnapped frankie and kept her in a cellar for a month. Renata helped her get rescued. Yorke set fire to the town.

In book six, frankie is pregnant. She gets rescued. Shasta is blind. The army, 400 people that yorke got to join them to fight ben, hate yorke because he kept sending them out to search for frankie and traded bullets to get her back. She gets back and tries to kill ben by poisoning him. In the end some ex townees decided to try and rescue ben by starting a fire in the hotel. Yorke goes to find a bullet making warehouse but it is a trap. Kelley , undercover with the butcher , who has 6000 pigs and 5000 army, is beaten and stabbed. Rey , her girlfriend, is made to not tell yorke about wjat is happening at thornhille so they dont kill her. In addition to the fire, WHW,s assistant odille and renata and sebi and an army are also there for yorke. Yorke agrres to go back with her if they leave everyone rhere alone. Ben and rourke try to kill frankie. Then mitsy tries to kill her. Frankie tells yorke they allgo with him to dc. He finally realizes niwhere is safe and agrees to her coming. Shayne and his bow girlfriend , ephie, will probably go to. Ephie was bens protégé. She wasnt very likeable but has now joined the good side. Oh and ben sent off a nmessage with a pigeon to the general, who conscripts anyone 14 and over and has forced breeding programs and a huge army telling him the yorke is at thornwood...he wants him because the whw wants him to lead his army. That is the end.

“We love you when we’re safe. We love you when we’re scared. Especially when we’re scared.

FINALLY!!! Omg, I’m so happy to read this one cause it has ‘THE MOMENT that I’ve been craving for so long to see since book 1 and it finally happens!

The plot started a few months after the ending of book 4 Safe, it shows how the people still trying to survive and it's getting harder when winter’s coming. On top of that they also have to worry about the unfriendly locals who keeps stealing their food in the name of taxation..

One scene at the beginning really tore my hearts out, I can’t believe it happens and it shows how ugly the world is in the post-apocalypse situation. It shocks everyone, most of all Yorke.

My favorite part of the book is seeing Frankie grows so much from the first book until now. She’s changing into this new person and I love it, like being a mom to Shane and Auden as well as embracing her love with Yorke. The chemistry between the two of them is very next level, I’ve been rooting for them both since the beginning and it finally pays off!

“Confidence is everything but it only counts if it comes from inside you.

When I’m feeling happy with all these progress, the cliff-hanger at the end left me feeling a lot of emotions I’m happy with the book but also mad cause now I need to wait for who knows how long to find out what happens next.

Overall, this is a good addition to one of my favorite post-apocalypse series. There’s major developments on the characters and I can’t wait to see the epic war coming up in the next book!
My only wish is I don’t have to wait for long to read the next book..

I binged this series so quickly only to discover that it’s not finished yet 😭😭😭 But I’m obsessed! I haven’t read a ton of apocalyptic fiction, but what I have read (or even watched) has always been post-apocalypse. This series (at least in book 1) explores the moments during a cataclysmic event, and immediately afterwards. What happens when your partner dies, your children, your friends? Who do you trust, how do you survive?

Basically, a virus has wiped out 99% of the global population. No zombies, but humanity devolves pretty quickly and some not-so-nice factions are formed. Our mc’s, Frankie and Yorke, are amazing. I found Frankie so relatable; she was a painter with no real applicable “survival skills at first, and had to quickly learn to fend for herself. I honestly don’t know what I would do in an apocalyptic event, if I suddenly found myself alone. Frankie’s journey is so real, from her husband dying & having to bury him (I was sobbing in bed, trying not to wake up my hubs), to meeting other people, meeting Yorke, trying to find a way forward and create a life for the people she now cares about instead of just surviving. She grows into such a strong character! And Yorke is a dream, seriously. I’m manifesting myself a Yorke for my next life. He's so strong, but patient and understanding. He loves her so much, gaaaah.

Even though I saw the cliffhanger coming in this book, I have enough faith in Yorke that things won't get too brutal in the next installation. If you're into apocalyptic stories, give this hidden gem a try!

HAVEN (AFTER THE PLAGUE BOOK FIVE)

Release Date: 02/28/23
Kindle Unlimited: [X]YES [ ]NO
Stand-alone: [ ]YES [X]NO
Author: Imogen Keeper
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
Spiciness rating: 🌶/5
POV: Dual, first person
Main Characters: Frankie & Yorke

Review:

It seems the books in this series just keep getting better. It’s hard to keep the quality of books in a long series, but Imogen is successfully doing it.

This series is about romance, but it’s much more. It’s about survival, resilience, persistence, friendship, personal growth, it’s in these extreme situations that people show their best and their worst, and we see it clearly here. The secondary characters became as important as the main ones. The plot showing us how they deal with the most adverse situations and never give up.

It’s incredible to see how much these characters evolved since book one. I don’t have any doubt they will continue growing in the next books and I hope they get the peace the so much aim to get. However, there are a lot of fighting to be done yet.

If you are still here, go back and give book one a try, you won’t regret it.

*** I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. ***

Ohhhhh this book. There was such a movie like quality to some of the scenes of this story (I agree that it would make an EPIC NETFLIX SERIES). I could see it all so clearly, the writing, the descriptions, the characters, the world. It's just... *Chefs kiss. This book had a bit of everything, the highs were high, but the lows were looooooooow and, I'm not gonna lie, kinda traumatizing at points (in the best possible way) I don't do spoilers, so you'll just have to trust me when I tell you that this was my most favourite instalment of the series.

Imogen Keeper has done it again.

Holy crap, I need to know what’s going to happen next! That was intense and what a cliffie! I’ve sailed through 5 of the books and now I have to wait??? I had to give this 5 stars with how invested I am. I’ve grown so attached to these characters. This series has the perfect amount of sadness, humor, kindness, love, good and evil. Frankie has become so strong and I can’t wait to see her defend her family. I also can’t wait to see what Yorke (my book boyfriend) is going to do.
Edited to add that I think this has become one of my favorite series, and this book is one of my favorites of 2023.

I feel like shouting from the hills about this book series because it is SO GOOD!! Beautiful character and relationship development across the books, and the way that the author describes loving a child, even one that isn’t your own, is genuinely beautiful. The five star rating isn’t based on this book alone but all of them. Romance took a while to actualise but hey ho, the slow burn was as sweet as can be. I demand the next one be published asap please xo

This book was worth the wait! There was action, there was suspense, there was love, there were cute, funny moments that we’ve come to expect. There were the right amount of concerned gasps and sighs of relief. You feel like part of the Thornewood community. And, seeing Yorke in a fatherly role makes me smile out loud. Thank you for the ARC! I was so pleased to be one first readers.

This series just gets better and better. The post-apocalypse world is dangerous and teeming with peril. Frankie, Yorke, Auden and Beast have been through so much. I’m eager to read what happens next on their dramatic and action-packed journey.

An astounding book.

I loved every single word of Imogen Keeper's series After the Plague each of the five books was an absolute joy to read. The difference in the main characters Yorke, Frankie and Auden from the first book Broken to Haven the fifth, is phenomenal they are like different people but seeing them grow in each book was remarkable. This series so far is an incredible set of books that is impossible to put down once you start reading and why would you want to anyway. Please start to read the books because you will love them. I can not wait till the next instalment is out.

I was so gutted when I actually thought that Haven was the last book in the series but having now read it it's clear that there definitely is another to come, my biggest question now is when?

This is book five in the series and the growth of characters and just the whole storyline and world building is just epic! It is written in such a realistic way and so many of the characters have evolved immensely during their post pandemic life. I am totally glad this wasn't just an insta-love storyline. Frankie and Yorke have struggled and worked hard to get to where they are at. The family unit they have built out of the darkest of times is a beacon of light that grows day by day...even when it is tested! This book about wrecked me (but parts also put me back together!) and that ending...please, write faster!! :)

⭐️ 5 - I couldn’t put the book down. I forgot a few things from when I read the first books but it wasn’t hard to catch up and get familiar with the story again. This was so intense and I was so anxious during many chapters. From what the author said, we’ll still see some growth on the characters and I’m so happy cause it was such a journey to see how much they’ve changed from book 1. Can’t wait for next one 🤩

The misrepresentation of the Bulgarian accent, culture, mannerism and traditions is just appalling and borderline offensive. Firstly, Venus is not a remotely Bulgarian name and it makes absolutely no sense for the character to be named that (even if her parents named her after the planet, her name would be Venera, not Venus and it takes a 5 second google search to figure that out). Secondly, they gave her stereotypically Russian characteristics - she talks about bears, she has a Russian accent, she is large (this last one is baffling since average female height in Bulgaria is 1,64m or 5,4). She is also very stupid for no good reason and barely speaks English because she is just that dumb - the lights are on? Oh, it must be the bears!(pronounced BEERS by her) Are you kidding me!? Do you have to make Eastern European characters sound Russian and stupid at the same time and then use them for comedic relief.

Either do your research or stop writing about characters from Eastern European countries since you can’t separate them from the SSSR anyway.

I enjoyed all the characters in this series but the finish of the fifth ones has left too many questions unanswered. I immediately went to find the sixth and it is nowhere to be found. Multiple cliffhangers at the end do not make this reader happy. Except for this I’d have given it 5 stars as I did the others.

After the Plague: A Series That Will Have You Reaching for the Next Book

Five devoured books in three days? That's exactly what happened to me with Imogen Keeper's "After the Plague" series! Buckle up, preppers and romantics alike, because this isn't your typical post-apocalyptic tale.

Frankie and Yorke:

These are not your average star-crossed lovers. Flawed, yes. Beautiful, absolutely. Determined to protect each other at all costs? You bet. Keeper masterfully builds their slow-burn romance, making you ache for their happiness in a world that seems hell-bent on tearing them apart. Seriously, Frankie and Yorke are my new OTP (One True Pairing)!

Forget the Zombies:

This series throws a refreshing curveball. No shuffling undead here! The focus is on the resilience of the human spirit after a devastating plague. It's unpredictable, unique, and deeply touching, reminding us of the strength found in community and connection.

Read in Order, It Matters:

This isn't a series you can jump into haphazardly. The beauty lies in witnessing Frankie and Yorke's bond blossom organically, book by book. Trust me, it's a journey worth taking in its entirety.

Secondary Stars Shine Too:

While Frankie and Yorke steal the show, don't underestimate the impact of Shane and Auden. These remarkable young characters showcase a blend of childhood innocence, courage forged in hardship, and a strength that belies their years.

Aspiring Author Inspiration:

As a fellow writer, I finished this series feeling both inspired and challenged. Keeper has crafted a world that's equal parts terrifying and hopeful, with characters I genuinely care about. That's the kind of story I want to tell too!

In Conclusion:

"After the Plague" is a must-read series for anyone who enjoys a gripping post-apocalyptic adventure with a hefty dose of romance. It's a testament to the power of love, resilience, and the enduring spirit of humanity, even in the face of unimaginable devastation.
