Some Days, It Doesn't Pay To Get Out Of BedThat's what crosses Clint Evans's mind the minute he takes on the four thugs holding heiress Julie Rose hostage. It isn't the danger that has Clint in a lather, but Julie herself. The pretty, petite schoolteacher he's been hired to return to her wealthy fiance is no fainting trust-fund baby. She's more of a hellcat, one who won't be deterred when she sets her sights on something. And her sights are set on Clint.
The one rule Clint never breaks is this--don't get involved with the client. He can look, but he definitely cannot touch--even if it's driving him crazy. Keeping Julie safe until he can figure out who's behind her kidnapping means never letting her out of his sight. And the closer he sticks to the feisty, seductive woman who makes him feel alive...the harder it gets for him to ever consider letting her go...

Just a Hint, Clint, by Lori Foster is one of my favorite books to re-read. It’s a comfort read for me, and I don’t think I will ever get sick of read this one. There's just so much I love about this one, but I especially love the characters.
Clint is just totally heroic. He’s strong and tough and totally alpha, but also respectful of others and caring, and he’s not really pushy either. Clint is sort of like a private investigator, and he’s hired to save Julie Rose who has been kidnapped. He totally rescues her (looking ever sosexy during the rescue) and it’s awesome. Clint has a weak stomach, though. He’s can kick some total ass, but then, after all the ass-kicking is over, he ends up throwing up. I love this aspect to his character. It’s something you wouldn’t expect from such a tough alpha male.
Julie Rose is a teacher, and she’s wealthy, in a way, but she’s also ready to shake her life up. She’s always lived a cautious life, but she’s ready for adventure. Being kidnapped, though, wasn’t the adventure she was looking for. Naturally she’s in shock and upset by this experience. But luckily she’s rescued, and she rebounds pretty quickly. I really liked that about Julie. She is scared, but then she rallies herself. And I love that Julie pursues Clint.
Once she meets him, she knows she wants him, and she’s not afraid to let him know. Juliereally understands Clint. She knows who he is, and loves him for it. I always end up completely shipping these two. I can just tell how perfect these two are for each other.
The whole mystery aspect of the story really isn’t wonderful, but seriously, I am not reading Just a Hint, Clint for the mystery. I’m reading it for the romance, and the romance is awesome. Just a Hint, Clintjust works for me in pretty much every way.
Schoolteacher and heiress, Julie Rose has been kidnapped and Clint Evans has been hired by Julie's former fiancee, Robert, to find her and bring her home. Robert doesn't tell Clint that they are no longer engaged, so when Clint rescues Julie and begins to have feelings for her, it is upsetting, but he doesn't seem to be able to resist the quirky Julie, who is also very attracted to Clint. Robert tells Clint that the danger has not passed, and asks him to keep Julie safe a little longer, but Clint doesn't know how long he can hold out against Julie's persuasive nature.
Just a Hint - Clint is a fairly average romantic suspense that focuses mostly on the romance and very little on the suspense. The twist at the end is very easy to predict and the dangerous characters don't really seem all that dangerous. In addition, most of the characters are not well developed and come across as one dimensional. There is a fairly lengthy intimate scene that does add a little to the story, but overall, Just a Hint - Clint is, for the most part, an ordinary romantic suspense novel.
Just a Hint-- Clint. Yall. This is one of my favoritest of the favorites. lol
The Gist: Clint's been hired to find a kidnapped woman and keep her safe until the culprits are found. Not too hard a gig for a bruiser of a guy. Avoiding falling for her? Well now. That might be a challenge.
I absolutely adore Clint. He's one of the most unique heroes and one that just captured my heart from the start. He's not what anyone would call handsome, he's gruff and rough around the edges, gets queasy when he has to engage in violence (not an easy glitch when he's in rescue). But yall this guy. This guy is all heart. He's honorable and dedicated and is just so utterly sweet under that craggy exterior. He's every inch the swoon-worthy hero.
Julie Rose is pretty awesome, too. By outside appearances she's a shy mousy thing. But the girl has a spine of steel. She fights back, has spirit and sass. Has a heart of gold and is endearingly innocent and trusting. She's pretty wonderful.
And I loved their romance. They have great banter and chemistry. They're an unlikely pair with his gruff violent lifestyle and her softer safe life but they work. I loved that while neither was a knock out, exactly, to each other they were. They both came alive with that, too. With someone being there, trusting them, finding them sexy and wanting them. It was really rather sweet.
The mystery was good, too. Random attacks, kidnapping, multiple suspects, them on the run and keeping Julie Rose safe while trying to figure out what all was going on. It was nicely done.
So, the second time around I loved Just a Hint, Clint nearly as much as the first time. I adore Clint and Julie Rose. They're amazing people and it made me flat out happy seeing them together and finding love.
I really, really liked this book. Clint Evans is one of those guys who thinks he isn't worth loving and doesn't need a woman except for the obvious. Enter one Miss Julie Rose who has been kidnapped and threatened with violence. Now Julie Rose is not the most beautiful or voluptuous woman in the world but somehow she gets her hooks into Clint and he's a goner from the beginning.
This is a sweet romance that shows you how falling in love should be done. This is the first I've read in the series but I will definitely be returning to Visitation North Carolina for more fun adventures with the whole gang.
7.30.19 Rereading since it’s one of my favorite LF books and it’s now available audio!!
Julie Rose has left her temporary home and teaching job in Visitation, NC and returned to her hometown to make some changes in her life. She has broken up with her fiancé Robert and now plans to live her life to the fullest and experience new things....until fall when she will return permanently to Visitation and her teaching job.
Unfortunately, Julie Rose is kidnapped and held for ransom. Robert hires Clint Evans, a big scary guy to find and return “his fiancé. Robert is not being exactly honest with Clint and Clint knows he’s hiding something. Clint locates and rescues Julie Rose and is dismayed that he’s attracted to another mans fiancé. Once Clint finds out the Robert omitted the fact that Julie Rose broke off their engagement he no longer fights his attraction to the petite schoolteacher. Unfortunately, Julie Rose is still in danger and Clint decides the only way to keep her safe is to keep her with him till he can figure out who is behind her kidnapping. This is a fun read that will keep you guessing till the end, definitely one of my favorite LF books and hero!!
This one started out with real promise but I felt it lost it's steam somewhere there in the middle. I liked that Clint was a protective, tough character, but I found that along the story road that the antagonist's were just not believable. Just a Hint Clint started out with 5 stars, but ended on a 3 star vote.
Clint Evans is hired to find Julie Rose. Julie has been kidnapped and is being held for ransom. Her fiance' feels she is being held by a two bit thug that he owes money. But upon further investigation Clint finds her being held not by the extortionist, but by some men that are being led by an unknown someone. Clint quickly takes offense to their treatment of Julie and saves her by pretty much beating them all to a pulp.
Julie Rose, a heiress/teacher is a proper woman with some spunk inside of her. She is fighting to keep some control on her situation during her kidnapping when a strange large man comes to her rescue. She is frightened and thankful that she has a strong rescuer. She is drawn to Clint from the first and can't help but try to continue their relationship outside of the rescuer and rescuee relationship.
this is where the story got just too much for me. Clint and Julie start a relationship while he is keeping her safe and trying to figure out who is behind her kidnapping. For me Clint turned into a Neanderthal and wasn't that appealing anymore.
I now remember why I haven't reread these books lately. Holy crap! We get another bad Lifetime Channel event.
This one is Julie's book. Julie is the very plain, skinny teacher that befriends the gang in Visitation NC. Julie gets kidnapped & her ex-fiancé hires Clint & his boys to rescue her. Clint is also not attractive physically. I only mention this because we're beaten over the head with how very ugly they both are over & over at the beginning of this book. Anyway, although she wasn't raped, which we're also reassured several times, she was tormented with it & felt up. What's strange is how she jumps right into bed with Clint a couple of hours later & is ready to get herself off on him. She tells him she's ready to explore her sexuality, which considering the previous circumstances, is a little inappropriate.
What's really bizarre is the crazy dialogue. Sometimes people are talking like normal, everyday folks. Sometimes it's just over the top nonsense. Joe shows up to help towards the end of the story & unfortunately brings Jamie with. The final confrontation is pure over the top drama. so, if you like that sort of thing, this story's for you!
Ahhh! Much better! I'm glad I continued on with this series. I didn't really care for "The Secret Life of Bryan." but wanted to give the series another chance and "Just A Hint Clint" has redeemed it for me. I really liked both the H/H in this book. Julie Rose had just enough feist to make me happy but not appear overbearing. And who wouldn't like a hero with a rather embarrassing side effect to beating up the bad guys? (I'll let you read the book so you can figure it out for yourself . . . but it's a hoot!)
Loved it and now looking forward to reading others in the series.
I got halfway through and DNF'd this one. I was bored but breezing through until I hit an incredibly unwieldy patch of exposition and info-dump. I had no desire to keep going after that.
Julie Rose, private school teacher and heiress who abandoned that life to eventually become an everyday normal school teacher in Visitation, NC, ends up kidnapped. We start the story with her ex-fiancee, Robert, hiring Clint Evans to get her back...and if he happens to kill the guy suspected of it, so much the better. Clint is very suspicious of Robert and his motives, but is intent on getting Julie back. After one look at her picture, he feels more connected to her than anyone woman ever before. And once he rescues her, the connection gets deeper. And Julie seems to feel the same, pushing Clint's restraint to the very limits. But what if her feelings have more to do with his being her rescuer than really wanting him? There's plenty of time for him to figure it out, since the two of them have to work together to figure out who would want Julie kidnapped and why.
So my first question in this is how Jamie, the psychic hermit, didn't spot this a mile away. I mean, he warned her that something was going to happen and told her to be careful, but he didn't happen to foresee her being kidnapped from her home at any point? Or realize it was happening and have the whole town up in arms? I found it so unlikely that I actually thought Julie hadn't actually been kidnapped and that Robert was faking the whole thing to get money. But apparently I was incorrect there. She'd actually been kidnapped.
Clint and Julie have an interesting relationship - at first it feels like exactly what Clint fears - Julie being so traumatized that she transfers those feelings of security he gives to feelings of lust. But then she gets pissed because he thinks so and she acts like he's being unreasonable. And I was completely confused because she's talking like she just wants to have a little fun and experiment with him and he's pushing her away because he doesn't want her to take advantage of her and then she's all butthurt because he doesn't want a relationship with her. And this is in the space of 10 minutes or so. So I was a at a complete loss for why Julie should feel so rejected when she only wanted to use Clint in the first place and he made it clear he was thinking in her best interests. Then they get into their groove and go about figuring things out. I was totally going along with Clint's suspicions, but was surprised by the actual villain - a first for this series. So good job author!
That being said, I was decidedly irritated by Julie when she'd slip into her "teacher persona." Just a hint, teachers don't actually behave that way just because they're teachers...they're normal people who are actually able to connect to kids and teens without getting all condescending and prissy... and they don't correct everyone's grammar. As a teacher myself, I felt rather put off by the stereotype the author seemed intent on portraying. Next thing I figure she'll be wearing tortoiseshell glasses, a blouse and skirt and sensible shoes (although that's not always a stereotype...).

I’m going to do this review a bit different from my norm. What I didn’t like about the story The book can be read as a standalone but it is billed as the fourth book in the Visitation series. The heroine Julie Rose regularly mentions characters from earlier books in the Visitation series based in Visitation N.C. where I’m sure she was probably introduced to readers previously as a minor character. For me I was often left feeling like I was dropped into the middle of a social gathering where I didn’t know anyone. Many of those characters from her Visitation series make an appearance at the end of this story. The epilogue is dedicated more to enticing readers to read one of these character’s Jamie’s coming story than it is to giving our couple their happily ever after. Their wedding is an afterthought to what’s going on with Jamie. It’s not at all uncommon for authors to sprinkle in characters from their other series but in this story it often felt forced in a blatant attempt to promote the other books. Foster really didn’t stretch her imagination too far in creating our hero Clint Evans. In typical Lori Foster fashion he’s big, heavily muscled, extremely macho with a dangerous edge, gruff, a little crude and protective of the innocent and those he cares about. Nothing wrong with any of that except as an author of dozens of books her male leads seem to have a cookie cutter similarity. I will give Lori her profs for Clint’s little post violence issue. Now that was unique for a big, tough guy hero. What I liked First and foremost I loved the heroine, heiress Julie Rose. Unlike her male lead Julie Rose is a unique character. She’s not beautiful. She’s almost painfully slender with small breasts and a face that doesn’t turn heads. But as in real life with most people when Julie Rose smiles she’s beautiful. And her innate sexiness and sensuality comes from her attitude, not her looks. I loved her grit, fearlessness and compassion. I liked the fact that her great wealth didn’t impact her ability to interact and care about people less fortunate than her. In truth she had come to care little if at all about her trust fund. I loved the chemistry between Julie and Clint. She constantly befuddles our hero with her directness, honesty and common sense as well as her stubbornness. She has our hero turned inside out and upside down before he knows what hit him. I suspect the title Just a Hint Clint refers to how clueless Clint is regarding Julie Rose and his feelings for her. I liked the Robert Burns character. Okay, the guy wasn’t admirable or often likable, but he was an extremely well developed secondary character with a lot of facets to his character. Foster is very adept at writing romantic dramas where the heroine’s life is in danger. She spins an engrossing tale here. I honestly thought I knew who arranged to have Julie Rose kidnapped early on in the story so when the person is revealed I was surprised how well she had fooled me. All in all I found this a typically enjoyable Lori Foster story with romance, sex and suspense.
Just A Hint-Clint had me hooked from the opening page right through to that ending teaser for Jamie’s story to finally be told. It’s intriguing, intense and satisfying on so many levels. Considering that the Visitation, North Carolina series was originally released back in 2004 please don’t ever think that an author’s earlier works can or should just be left on the shelf Lori Foster is an amazing storyteller, and she only gets better as the years pass.
Julie has been a secondary character in this series, but she was not one that stood out or shouted for attention. She was vital for the parts she played earlier but she shines with her unique feisty, take charge personality in her own story. Julie has been kidnapped and Clint is hired by her former fiance to rescue her which all seems rather straightforward, but the twists and turns along with some surprises start early in this one. All I’m going to say is do not assume anything and you’ll be fully engaged and entertained with the conclusion of Just A Hint-Clint.
I loved the dynamic of Clint and Julie, they aren’t quite the opposites attract yet they are very different in their approach to life. I enjoyed watching Julie come alive as her relationship with Clint grew, she was fun to begin with but by the ending I was totally in love with this spunky schoolteacher. I adored Clint, and his unique symptom made him even more human. A man who can be protective and hard when needed, and tender, loving when with his woman that’s a man I’ll fall in love with every time. We’ll run into a few familiar faces, and their appearance was timed and executed perfectly within the story. As I said, don’t make any assumptions, the villain is vile but for more than the obvious reasons. I was surprised, and I should be and in truth here I was more involved with Julie and Clint to be trying to figure out the ultimate bad guy anyway.
In all, I had a fantastic time in the Visitation, North Carolina world once again and I cannot wait to open up Jamie next. I would highly recommend Just A Hint-Clint, and this entire series to Romance readers who like their heroes strong and tender, their heroines smart and capable, and the villains vile as can be. You’ll be hooked but I strongly suggest to read this series in order for people, relationships flow from one story to the next and it all makes more sense if you can read in order that’s just my opinion.
It’s been a minute since I last read a book by Lori Foster. She used to be one of my go to authors when I started reading romance, and I’ve actually had this book on my shelves for over 10 years waiting to be read 😱
Although I loved how protective Clint was about Julie, and it’s clear there was a lot of chemistry between the two of them, this story really fell short for me.
Firstly, Julie Rose annoyed the hell out of me. I hated how everyone called her by her full name throughout the book, and secondly I found it really annoying how she kept flitting from being this overly skittish fragile woman who literally had to cling to Clint like a koala in order to function, to then being this overly prim and proper school teacher who felt the need to scold everyone about their behaviour.
The conclusion as to why Julie was kidnapped was so ludicrous to me, and really did not make any logical sense that it just ruined the entire book, and I know I shouldn’t judge a book so harshly, but there were two sentences in the book that really bugged the hell out of me, and just weren’t appropriate whatsoever. The only reason I’ve given the book 3 stars is because of Clint - he really is a force to be reckoned with 😍, and because of Lori’s writing style which naturally draws the reader in, but unfortunately this wasn’t the sought after reunion I was hoping for with Foster.
I am so glad that I got to read this book. This is one that I had not read before now.
Loved it as I do all Lori Foster's books. She has yet to write a book that disappoints.
It grabs you from the get go.
Clint is hired to find Julie Rose by her "fiance". When he finds her with the help of his friends he has to fight off some thugs to save her. But Clint the macho big man he is gets sick when he has to do something bad..
He takes Julie and keeps her for a bit to try to find out who is behind her kidnapping..
I swear I loved her..she cracked me up so many times in this book I was laughing out loud.
I love how she turned Clint into a teddy bear when she was around..
I was surprised by who was behind the kidnapping. I had guesssed everyone but the person who did it. That is a good book to me!! LOL
I didn't love it like i expected to probably because the book had very many unrequited boring details. Which would have been okay if they were interesting but it wasn't. Julie was talking about people and her life when we didn't have a clue about it and using names of so many people who weren't even included or important in the story just irritating me and changing the point of the whole book . But then it got so interesting towards the end and everything started falling into place. I kinda guessed who was behind everything because it's always the one you least expect to be. So i just guessed the name of the person who was least expected to. And voila! I was right 😂
Clint and Julie's story was fun and exciting. Julie really got to cut loose and enjoy life once Clint rescued her. Having Joe and Jamie show up to help really upped the excitement factor. I can't wait for Jamie's story. I would recommend this story to any adult reader that enjoys action packed books with strong heroes and heroines.
I loved this story. It was a fun adventure and I really enjoyed the interaction between Clint and Julie. I liked how much stronger Julie was in this story. Glad to see Jamie and Joe make an appearance when Julie needed them. The author kept me guessing as to who was behind the kidnapping. I look forward to the next book.
I can finally say i finished the whole series! Each one was great on its own but i LOVED them all! Just the right mix of, romance, humor, and suspense! Poor Clint..had to laugh at his problem but this was so good! Thanks Lori!!
I’ve read this series a few times and I still love it. Clint was hired to rescue Julie. Loved how hard he falls for her, but who kidnapped her and why? Loved being shocked. Loved this happy ever after and I highly recommend this book.
A very sweet romance. I love how Lori Foster writes. Some stories take about 3 or 4 chapters to really get your attention. She has my attention in the 1st chapter. Another good story by her.
Great series. Fun characters! Interesting storyline, intriguing and romantic. Love the series and all the visitation family. Can’t wait to read the last book! Thanks
