Some mistakes weren't meant to last.

Have you ever wanted to change a mistake? What would you do if you could go back in time, to that precise moment and undo it? What would it change?
For Katie Mottola, everything changed...

Already a fan of Stacy Jay's Megan Berry zombie series, I couldn't wait to see what this book would be like. I love the idea of time travel but yet to find a lot of stories about them for YA, so I'm happy to say that I really enjoyed this one.

The Locket is ultimately about second chances and what you would or wouldn't do if you made a horrible mistake and desperately wanted to take it back.
In a weird twist of fate Katie gets to change the night when she cheated on her boyfriend, Isaac, with their best friend, Mitch. But not everything is black and white and Katie must live with the consequences of her actions and understands that some things just aren't meant to be. And some things are.

This was a really fun concept! How many times did I wish I could go back to a moment in time and change what I had done. It was really neat to see how things would play out in this book, and now I'm thinking, not so much.
Things really do happen for a reason;)

I really enjoyed all of the characters. They were all very well developed and it was easy to get lost in there drama.
Katie has her whole future planed and wrapped up in a little red bow. She wants to get married to Isaac, have babies with Isaac and grow old and gray with Isaac. What she doesn't seem to realize is that her seemingly perfect life isn't exactly what she thought it was.
Isaac isn't all bad, he's just very self-focused and has an intense father, but that doesn't excuse him for basically taking Katie for granted. He did a few prick-moves that I'm not very happy about either.
Mitch is the polar-opposite of Isaac. He's very easy to love. He's the kind of guy who's sweet and attentive, he's the guy that will remember the little things and makes sure he's there when you need him.

The writing, as always is excellent, lots of twists and turns in this one. It wasn't overly predictable, but there were some things you could see coming, it didn't really bother me though since it's done it a way that's fun and you just gotta know how this is all going to end.
It's not hard to know which guy to root for and I think I would have enjoyed this even more if my affections weren't so easily placed.
Never the less, I still got a kick out this whole situation and the tension and angst of it all.
Plus, Mitch really is such a sweetheart!!

Overall, The Locket is a great enchanting story about fate and friendship.
It's fast, light, slightly spooky and completely entertaining.
Perfect if your looking for an easy escape.

Very enjoyable!

Spoilers are going to be littered throughout this mess:

Dear Katie:
This just in, Your boyfriend is an ASS!!!! Sure, he seems Mister All-American jock that is the love of your life, but really he is a self-absorbed prick. I didn't like him from the very beginning. He really doesn't seem to care about your feelings, then complaining how you acted nervous in front of Rachel!!! Ahhh, what a tool. No, that does not excuse your behavior with Mitch. You need to open your eyes to see what is in front of you, you have this idea of a person in Issac that just isn't accurate. Why are you so obsessed with having a future with this guy? Why do teenage girls do this??? Issac isn't the worst pick in the world, he just doesn't appreciate you. Seriously, why would you even want a second chance with this dude?!?!?
Let's talk about the locket. Seriously what an opportunity,to go back in time and change your mistake. Pretty cool, until it shows it's evil side.
I was crying right along side you when Mitch 'died'. Man, I did not see that coming. I thought the author was going to leave him that way and make you suffer the wrath of the locket. I was pleasantly suprised. Your ending was sweet, but not likely.
Have you ever noticed Issac has ASS spelled in in backwards?!?!? NO, me either until reading this book.

4 stars

Highly enjoyable. fast paced. fun. a can't put you downer.

The Locket must be the sweetest time-travel book out there!
Some will say it was a total cliché but it had so many twists so you never know what will happen next and you can't wait to see which guy will Kate pick. Will it be Isaac or Mitch? The story will just suck you right in. And let me tell you there were a few huge shockers.

While reading, the book went from 3 to 4 until at the end it reached 5 stars. Those people who know me can tell I don't give 5 star rating unless I really loved it(read obsess about it).

I recommend it to those who love a good teen(emphasis on teen)fantasy. I don't think older readers will like it very much.

2.5 stars. "’Wow ... That was wow.â€ [...] Usually that was all it took to make everything in me light up. At the moment, however, it only made me feel vaguely canine, like a cute puppy Isaac adored but didn’t totally consider his equal. But then I ·É²¹²õ²Ô’t his equal."
Always-only-understudy Drama geek Katie Mottola has had her two best male friends since she had been six years old: Golden, popular and sportsy Isaac, who is one grade above, and lanky, quiet and rock-bandy Mitch from next door. But eventually Katie and Isaac went down the couple road while Mitch stayed only the sweet, but overlooked childhood buddy, and by the time of her relationship’s three-year-anniversary all Kate wishes for is that it lasts forever. For Isaac basketball always comes first and standing up his girlfriend for various sports-based reasons is part of his normal operating mode, but Katie is happy, she really is as long as he still plans to marry her like he promised to when they started having sex a year ago.
Katie is the kind of ueber-dependent girl who only shines because of her boyfriend’s glory and who believes herself to be plain and untalented and thus lucky to have a popular guy’s lasting attention.

When I witnessed how Isaac loads ‘his girl into his car only to be able to throw her out again in the middle of nowhere during a raging thunderstorm, being perfectly aware of the fact that she never bothered to take her mobile on dates with him - he is the only one who calls her anyway -, because he is upset about a rumour he had been fed, which involved Katie and Mitch kissing at a party he did not choose to attend, and does not give her a chance to defend herself or explain, I knew exactly what was wrong and twisted with the heroine’s perception of love, relationships, friendship and herself. But I had to wait until the 80% mark had been crossed for backward-pedalling Katie to catch up on the idea that being a doormat is too high a price to pay for eternally staying together with somebody who accidentally happened to be your first love.

Still, as a whole, I liked the message of the story: When you are handed a second chance wasting it on cowering and passively avoiding the obstacles that did you in the first time around won’t do you any good. You have to seek the confrontation. You have to stand up for yourself and your friends. You have to tackle the problem. For if you don’t there will be other, new bad things that will just ‘happen to you while you watch helplessly.

What I really admired about ’s time-travelling concept was that using the Locket was not a ‘scientific means to go back into the past and tamper with it Marty-McFly-style, but a decision to succumb to magic. For although the moment in time the wearer returns to is a matter of choice, the randomly different variant of her own life the traveller is handed to deal with is not. Resorting to employ the locket’s strange power turned out to be as reliable and as rewarding as playing Russian Roulette. Like making debts to pay a debt one desperate foray into the past makes the next one unavoidable. Our 'heroine' Katie has to learn this lesson the hard way. But finally she realises that tampering with your future by changing your attitude in the present beats making things unhappen in the past.

My verdict concerning is: A really nice idea, some great motti, but an almost unbearably painful execution. Choose for yourself and choose well.

Every now and again readers, you get that one book that you have been waiting for like "ever" to read and once you do you are glad and excited that you got to read it and even better is the fact that you got to read it before it's release date . You know those stories , that central round a piece of jewellery and that piece of jewellery has magical powers. Well that is what happened in The Locket. This locket has the power to go back and fix mistakes in the past. For Katie, her mistake was that she hooked up with her boyfriends best friend Mitch and just as she thought no-one was looking, somebody did see and ran and told her boyfriend Issac. Now on the day of Katie's birthday and anniversary, she is in a hurry and snags her grandmother's locket and just as she thought this day couldn't get worse it does. Issac has broken up with her over the kiss with Mitch. It is after this, that the book turns to the theme of Groundhog day where Katie discovers the locket has powers to go back and fix mistakes and it rewinds to the day of the kiss -two weeks ago. But little does Katie realise that playing in the past isn't like Deja Vu, your actions can change the course of the future and soon a spiralling domino effect arises. In this Katie will soon discover the course of her own future and who she is meant to be with . Is Issac , the knight in shining armour and perfect boyfriend she made him out to be or is Mitch , her perfect partner ?

This book is very intense and very fast paced. The reader is able to get into the book fast cause of the great story line. The story line of this book is just filled with non-action, drama, secrets, and betrayals. All the things I love to see in books. As the story lines flows, the reader get more into the story of the locket and what is really does. I like it when a character can time travel and changes things. But I also like how Ms. Jay interpreted the consequence of changing the past. That element I was not expecting and I love it.

The characters themselves were well developed. I knew right from the start that there was something fishy Issac. He just rubbed me the wrong way. Mitch I knew there was something there but could not put my finger on it. I like how Katie is forced to make a desicions. To see a characters have an epiphany right before your eyes is awesome. It shows the characters growth but also their flaws. It made her see her love for him. Love that she hadn't realized is there.

Overall, this is quick and fast book, that I easily dive into and liked. Ms. Jay's writing is fantastic at describing every detail in the book down the to core of the characters emotions. Characters learn secrets, create and lose friendships and discover lost love.

In a way, I thought that this book was a mess. The characters were all over the place, and the plot ·É²¹²õ²Ô’t particularly organized. Overall, there were just a lot of things going on but not in a good way because the author didn’t deliver the action in a concise, well-written manner but instead, as a reader, we got a bunch of random information.

However, on the other hand, I did find the romance/heartbreak to be enticing but, like, in a middle school kind of way. Mind you, this ·É²¹²õ²Ô’t a particularly mature romance since the kids were in high school or something but still. And the fact that it was so painfully obvious from the beginning and only oblivious to Katie was somewhat annoying. I mean, how can someone be that oblivious? The only thing he lacked was neon signs above his head.

Katie was by far, one of the most annoying characters ever. I found her annoying, oblivious, dumb and an obnoxious martyr. Basically she was the reason why sometimes I’m like omg, why are girls so annoying. First of all, she was one of those do-gooders in her relationship with Isaac. He cared only about himself and she cared way too much for him. It’s not necessarily a bad thing but it is when she essentially allows him to trample all over her. And I don’t think he’s doing it intentionally but since she lets it go, he continues the same way. Finally when he gets pissed because he found out that she kissed their best friend, he pretty much does the douchiest thing ever. I won’t get into details because it’s a spoiler but I was completely shocked. I mean, I get that you’re hurt but Isaac cared more for the fact that she humiliated him by cheating on him than the fact that he was hurt because the person he supposedly loved cheated on him. You can already tell what kind of person he is and the fact that Katie was with him for so long and basically wanted the kiss to never happen that the time traveling occurred. I just don’t get it. Then there’s also the part where she thinks everything is her fault and rather than figuring out what the problem/fault was, she would immediately go into “omg it’s all MY FAULT mode and then she would time travel again. And again. It was really annoying honestly.

The rest of the characters showed no depth. They were all very one-dimensional and honestly, they didn’t really help the book whatsoever other than playing their basic roles. I mean, there was the obligatory “best friendâ€, the “popular girlâ€ who was a bitch, and obviously the other best friend that sealed the love triangle. Everyone played their roles in a very cliché manner â€ there ·É²¹²õ²Ô’t any surprises or whatnot.

The plot was interesting mainly because of the time traveling but the ending was extremely confusing. I didn’t really understand how everything righted itself at the end because it was so sudden. There was a lot of drama prior to that (i.e. crying, heartbreak, accidents, etc.) and then suddenly she was running home and yea. Very strange, I have to say.

Overall, an extremely quick read so I guess if you’re bored you can pick this up but I wouldn’t recommend it. There are a lot of better books out there that you can spend time with.

I wasn't supposed to read this book until 9th March, the day my exam ends. But I couldn't resist it and took a peek... and ended up finishing the whole book in 2 days. Which explains why I'm writing this review now. I want to share the good news - I really like it!

At first, the locket sounded like a great gift from God - it enabled Katie to travel back in time and fix the mistake she made two weeks ago, that was cheating on her boyfriend Isaac by kissing her best friend Mitch. And I bet you know what happened when Isaac found this out: he dumped her. Seriously wanting their relationship to work again, Katie was brought back in time by a supernatural power, but found that the little difference in the alternate world can eventually lead to many serious disasters. The pretty magical locket suddenly turned into something more evil and twisted.

I like how the author layered this novel with twists and turns. The story was interesting, but sometimes I felt like slapping some sense into Katie - she knew she was in love with Mitch but denied it all the way, letting poor Mitch drown in his misery of an unreturned love. But there were times when both of them felt a mutual attraction that surpassed the "best friends" relationship.

"... They're so perfect."

Mitch smiled and looked back at the bride and groom. "They are. I'd like to be like that someday."

"Yeah?" I asked, not realizing Mitch had his arms around my shoulders until I instinctively leaned into his warmth and felt the soft scratch of his wool coat against my cheek.
--- page 175

I really don't understand why would Katie pick Isaac over Mitch. Isaac, though nice and caring, cared his basketball more than his girlfriend. He was constantly busy and didn't have time to accompany Katie. On the other hand, Mitch, however busy he was, would spend time with Katie, even though he knew he didn't stand a chance with Katie, who believed that her first and only true love was Isaac, with whom she dreamed of having a family with. (Hey there, Katie, Mitch is so much better, OK!)

The minor characters in this story played an important role in this story. We have Rachel Pruitt, an obnoxious, rich, sickeningly-sweet and gorgeous queen bee who totally has a black stone as her heart, Sarah Needles, a gutsy girl who is Katie's (only) best girl-friend, Theo, an actual academic whiz who failed to be as clever in the alternate world, and a few other lesser characters. These people made Katie re-think about everything - her time-travel, her happy ending with Isaac, her more-than-friend feelings for Mitch, the truth and lies etc.

While the locket seemed to be an evil object to cause many disastrous, painful events, it did taught Katie a lesson, that is to follow her heart and overcome her fear of falling, or rather, failing in the eyes of others. As a conclusion, the locket contributed to Katie's inner growth and played a part in helping her to discover her true self. I would recommend this book to those who enjoy a twist in perfection and happy endings!

This has got to be one of my favorite reads of 2011. Frankly, I think the plot is a little clichéd, but I so love how the story was executed. The summary provides the readers the idea on how the story is going to play out. The Locket begins on Katie’s birthday, October 10. Exactly two weeks after she cheated on Isaac. Katie still feels guilty about it, but she just tells herself to forget about it because it was a mistake and it will never happen again. While she is preparing herself for her date with Isaac, she finds a locket on her grandmother’s vanity. She decides to wear it just as Isaac arrives on her doorstep.

The first time I got to meet Isaac, I couldn’t help but wonder how Katie could have possibly cheated on him. They’ve been together for three years. Isaac seems like a really nice guy and takes good care of Katie. They are both in love with each other too. However, when Isaac finds out about what Katie did with Mitch and dumped her (almost literally), I knew right then that Isaac doesn’t deserve her.

The locket then starts getting really hot and in the blink of an eye, Katie finds herself transported back to the party two weeks ago where it all began. Katie, knowing how the scenes are going to play out, successfully avoids cheating with Mitch. So the next day, she is guilt-free and still has both her best friend and boyfriend on her side.

During the days before October 10, we get to learn more about Mitch, Isaac and as well as the other characters. Mitch is exactly the type of guy you would love to be your bf-bf (bestfriend-boyfriend). He’s sweet, funny and thoughtful. He’s always there when Katie needs him unlike Isaac who values basketball more than anything. And most of all, he knows what Katie needs. Mitch has had a crush on Katie since they were younger. When his two bestfriends got together, he continued to be the third party, waiting by the sidelines until Katie notices him and realize that Isaac doesn’t deserve her. (Aw!)

The Locket is actually a lot darker and twisted than I originally thought. But regardless, I was easily captivated with the plot. There are times when I really, really want to shake Katie so hard for foolishly trying to save her relationship with Isaac. Though, given the time that they have been together, I think this kind of stupidity is almost acceptable. There was also a time that I cried so hard I thought my heart was going to break. I only wish that Jay provided a back story for the origin of the locket so the readers get an idea where it came from and how it could possibly do what it does.

Overall, The Locket by Stacey Jay is a gripping novel that intertwines romance, friendship, self-growth and acceptance of life and facing its struggles as they are. I absolutely recommended this to all readers out there!

In The Locket by Stacey Jay, Katie makes a huge mistake that ultimately ends her relationship with her boyfriend Isaac. Prior to this she finds a locket that belongs to her grandmother and once she starts to wish to take back her mistakes she gets to go back in time and have a second chance. However, this is not without consequences.

I thought the story had a lot of promise, but in the end it just didn't live up to my expectations. What could have been a great story just left me with more questions that weren't really answered. Whenever she changed things and went back in time something different happened. I understand the butterfly effect but how can things change so much the second time around that a new person is created (Mitch's soon to be step brother)? Not to mention the locket was never explained, the grandmother never remembered having it, how and why does it have its powers, and why does it stop working after a certain period of time?

The characters were not well developed. Issac was pretty one dimensional and Katie was completely clueless during most of the story, even her big revelation at the end seemed like it was kind of added on in a hurry. Through the whole book her priority is Issac even at the end when she throws herself at him that her big confession to Mitch held very little weight.

I give the book 2 stars. It could have been really good, but sadly it just wasn't.

This book was a slight chick flick, but with a time travel element. It was quite good. I find myself giving high, high ratings to a great deal of books, but this one was amazing, and deserves it. This book captures many genres, and therefore many audiences. I would highly recommend this book.

"Some mistakes weren't meant to last."
This book is about 17 year old, Katie. She made a horrible mistake, well at least it was horrible in her mine, but was it really?
Katie picked up a locket that used to be her grandmothers, it looks pretty and innocent, but she was so wrong.
She cheated on her boyfriend, Isaac. He dumped her three miles from town, in the poring rain, when he found out. Katie was caught in lightning and sent back in time to the night of the "mistake," with a locket stuck around her neck. She thought the life she was living was perfect, but boy was she wrong.

spoilers
I dislike Katie, she really annoys me and she can be so stupid, argh. Isaac also annoyed me. It was pretty obvious he was cheering on her and I had a strong suspicion of Rachel of Sarah. I do like Mitch however. He seemed to genuinely care. When he died, I literally through the book across the room and wouldn't touch it For another hour, eventually I had to pick it up. When she went back in time and Mitch was alive I was sooooooo HAPPY!!!! YAY. Overall a brilliant book.

Do Over! Who hasn’t done something they regretted and then wished they could turn back the clock for a do over? Katie’s magical locket gives her the ultimate do over opportunity.

Katie has been dating Isaac forever. He’s the popular jock who can be self-centered to the point of being a bit jerky. Katie messes up big time when she kisses their good friend, Mitch. He’s a light-hearted guy who has been like a brother to Katie for many years. These three are typical high school kids the average girl, the popular guy, and their best guy pal.

When Katie’s locket sends her back in time, things get strangely mixed up. At first, there are just some little things that are different. For instance, the theme of the prom. Soon enough though, some very big things are different. In fact, some changes may lead to dire consequences.

The Locket has a plot that does not quit. There are layers of detail and some very unexpected twists. Stacy Jay does a wonderful job of building suspense and pacing her story. I liked everything about The Locket.

Another book that I did enjoyed reading. It is a simple yet fascinating and engaging story. The time travel stuff in here is created excellently.

Katie, Isaac and Mitch are the main characters in the story. They were best of friends since they were kids. Katie and Isaac eventually became a couple. Everything is fine between them until Katie make a mistake of kissing Mitch. She lost Isaac because of that and Katie is so devastated that she’ll do anything to get him back. And the locket that she found in her grandma’s things gave her that chance to do so by going back in time to correct her mistake.

This story is so captivating and wonderful. It was well written and it is pretty realistic. The lessons in here will hit you hard. You will relate to the characters easily, their decisions and mistakes are so similar in real life. More often than not you can relate to Katie because her she is so real. I found myself agreeing in some of her decisions to change things because if I am in here place I might do the same thing. I am so loss at words to describe how I love the book. the only thing that I can say is that reading this make me appreciate all the things I have in my life and to never alter it any way possible.

I picked up this book recently on a thrifting trip. I bought it because of nine simple words on the cover. "How far would you go for a second chance?" I was immediately attracted to the plot. As I continued reading the story, I found it to be a good warning. Messing with the past changes the future. This book was a pleasant surprise, and I recommend it.

Katie made a mistake, and she wishes she can undo it. One simple kiss, one make out, and everything crumbled. Isaac, her boyfriend, found out on her birthday and broke up with her, and now she's confused and wondering why she allowed her best friend Mitch to kiss her. Katie, who tries so hard to prove to everyone that she's worth having Isaac as a boyfriend, that she can also be a part of the "platinums", that she can be popular. Then the locket comes, and Katie was transported back to two weeks before. As Katie makes small changes, chose differently, she was horrified that not only was she changing her mistakes, she was also changing everything in her life, and not for the good.

The phrase "be careful what you wish for" comes to mind while I was reading this book. That one innocent act of finding The Locket on the day Katie needed to change her life the most was the start of everything. Katie had the chance to change, but should she be changing them? By doing so she was bringing more damage to the mess she had already created.

It's also a classic story of three best friends, about love and friendship, which I am very familiar with. A love triangle right from the start. Katie was with Isaac because it was what was supposed to happen. They grew up together, and it's but natural to be together. But what about Mitch?

Isaac and Mitch were as different as night and day. While I think Mitch has an easy, laid back personality, quirky and funny at times, Isaac is popular and striving too hard. A jock and a rock star wannabe, but their differences is what makes you think which one should be good for Katie. Let's just say I'm satisfied with her choice in the end.

When you look at it closely, the premise for this book was very simple, but that simplicity is what draws you to it. Cliche at times, but unpredictable. Katie, Isaac and Mitch are characters we can all relate to, they have lives of a typical teenagers, with problems each of us face and emotions we all feel. The supporting characters are your staple type of antagonists in Young Adult books, snarky popular girls backstabbing their "friends", supportive best friends drifting away from you, high school. The Locket has all of that, but the way Stacey Jay combined all of these ordinary and typical elements and created a fascinating story was just wonderful.

I loved how Stacey Jay was able to tackle such a theme in her book. Our choices, the consequences and responsibility that comes along with everything we do, and second chances. What happens when we change what we're not supposed to change? Katie found out firsthand how terrifying it is to play with fate and how it was destroying her instead of helping.

For once an inanimate thing like a locket scared me. Something lifeless has given a teenage girl a glimpse of what it was like to have the power to change things. Katie was taught a lesson by letting her relive the moments in her life she wanted to change, turning it the other way around for her to learn to stick by what she had done and learn to accept that things fall apart just so they can fall into place.

The Locket took me through a whirlwind of emotions, a book that started out with a very simple plot that turned into a complicated wave full of choices, what ifs, deception and lies, and in the end, hope and love. Stacey was able to capture in detail Katie's emotions, from desperation to love and overflowing happiness and the thoughts of everyone around her. The Locket is well-paced and filled with gripping twists and turns.

This book just proves that things happen for a reason and no matter what we must stand by the decisions we've made, may they be good or bad. Changing things and doing them over, sometimes isn't worth it, especially if it changes even the things you don't want to change.

The Locket is a book that will make you reflect about life and questions us and all the choices we have made that lead us to where we are now. This is the first Stacey Jay book I've read and I absolutely loved it!

The Locket

The Locket by Stacey Jay focused its plot on a locket that can let people time travel. Katie, who was the lucky girl that found the locket, was thrilled when she found out about its magic. Since her life was perfect with her boyfriend, Isaac, until she kissed their mutual best friend Mitch. Although the locket helped her to travel back in time to fix her mistakes and make her life perfect again, little changes that happened here and there turned out to be disastrous.

For me, this book was actually not as well written as I expected. I find the plot too shallow and predictable. What interested me into reading this book was its cover, which was black and had an opened locket with the good and evil Katie’s, and its summary at the back, which made the book sound very exciting.

At first, the book was captivating enough for me to keep on reading. There was drama with the typical “mean and popular cheerleading captain, and the “quiet but thoughtful backstage girl. But after the second time that Katie traveled back in time, I knew exactly where the book was headed because it turned out exactly like the first time! And compared to other stories, its problems were as different as flute and piccolo. And then another time travel just bored me with the author’s simple thoughts and predictable dilemmas. But at the same time, I didn’t know how the little changes, such as a switch of colour for the sign of a coffee shop, or Mitch’s dad is going to marry a woman with a kid, were significant for the development of the rest of the story, and nor did the author explain. Because of its expected endings, I wouldn’t suggest this book to children above the age of 15. However at the same time, its plot of high school drama isn’t appropriate for children under the age of 13.

The other unrealistic aspect of this story would be the Katie’s too naive to be 16. Judging by Katie’s decisions when it comes to problems with choosing between two guys, which is a plot overused by authors and script writers these days, she decides as if she was never exposed to it. Not even on T.V. Now that’s too unlikely since from how the author described Katie’s family and friends, there’s no way that she never watches T.V. shows like Gossip Girl. Every 16 years old girl out there now knows to follow their heart when it comes to love but Katie doesn’t? She knows that Mitch is the guy she truly loves, why can’t she just accept the truth and go with it? Besides, Mitch isn’t the type of guy that fails in school or a bad person, he’s just as fine as Isaac.

Overall, after reading this book, one feeling I got was to treasure what I have. Through Katie’s experience, and many others, I learned that people tend to overlook what they have right in front of them. People usually regret it afterwards but it would be too late. So never neglect what’s right in front of you and be conscious of your surroundings. There’s a saying: always aim for the best, but what if you already have the best?

After reading and loving Stacey Jay's two Megan Berry novels, I just couldn't wait to see what her next YA novel would be... and when I heard about The Locket, I just knew I had to get my hands on it right away. Well, I finally got a chance to read it the other night and it was so good! My only regret is not getting to it sooner because I think it may just be my favourite novel of hers yet!

Stacey Jay's previous novels may have centered around zombie settling, but I'm still considering The Locket as her darkest novel yet. It still retains her fun writing style but it felt like she challenged herself even more to give her readers a novel they wouldn't soon forget! And with the added aspect of a locket which goes back in time unexpectedly and the little alterations it makes to Katie's life, it constantly kept me on toes guessing what was going to happen next.

Katie is very much your average teenage girl and it's this trait of normalcy that I've always loved about Stacey Jay's writing. She writes about teens that act and speak exactly like their age! They make stupid mistakes they'll regret later, they have their immature moments and they get easily swept up in high school drama. All of these things can be applied to Katie. Even though she's been dating Isaac for a few years now and loves him so much, she still feels insignificant compared to her popular, star basketball player boyfriend who takes her for granted.

And then there's their mutual childhood best friend, Mitch, who's sweet, funny and is always there for her when she needs someone. (I'm sure you can tell which boy I was obviously rooting for from the very beginning!) So while Katie spent most of the novel convinced she had to do whatever it took to maintain her relationship with Isaac and didn't repeat her mistake of kissing Mitch, I on the other hand, was spending my time urging her to wake up and see what was in front of her all along!

The build up to the ending took me completely by surprise! A twist occurs that I didn't see coming at all, and it left me so devastated and shocked that I couldn't even form tears. As soon as it occurred, I was panicking and in disbelief... and I simply couldn't believe Stacey Jay would play with my heart this way. Anyways, I won't say more on the ending as I'll leave you to discover if the ending was happy or not...

With one mysterious (and sometimes evil) locket, swoon-worthy romance, and a bit of time-traveling... where can you go wrong? And I can't share my thoughts on the novel without at least one mention of the cover because isn't it just so gorgeous? I fell in love with it at first sight, that's for sure!

In any case, I'm just glad I don't have to wait too long to read Stacey Jay's next novel because Juliet Immortal, the first of a two-part series, will be out August 9!

My Thoughts: Whoa. Lately, I have been wondering what it would be like to go back in time and relive my mistakes, to have the opportunity to redo everything. This book did just that for me. No silly, I did not go back in time and change my life but I got to experience Kate's biggest mistake with her. Kate, is dating Isaac, popular Issac. Everyone likes Issac. He's into sports and every girls dream guy. Kate has been dating him for a few years so they are pretty much themselves around each other. Long before they started dating, they were even friends. They are also best friends with Mitch, whom they have also known their whole lives. One night, Kate goes to a party and Isaac doesn't join her. She ends up kissing Mitch and Isaac ends up finding out and breaks up with her. Kate is devastated. It was a mistake, it was a mistake, it was a mistake. Yes, I meant to write that three times, because I'm trying to convince myself and Kate, that it was a mistake.

Kate ends up wearing a necklace of her grandmas the fateful night that Isaac breaks up with her. As she stands on the side of the road, she starts to feel hot, and all of a sudden she's back to the night she kissed Mitch. She gets to change everything! She gets to change her mistake or take it back. She gets to prevent it! But at what cost? A lot of little things are different in this new scenario. Little things she tries not to pay attention too but she knows they are changing and she wonders why.

She spends more time trying to be perfect for Isaac. The kiss between Mitch never happens. What will happen between Isaac and Kate? Are Mitch and Kate just friends still?

I just have to point out my favorite scene of the whole book was at the party towards the end, where the mystery guy is singing Kate a song. Loved that scene. At least where he's up on stage! Very very awesome. I felt like I was really there. I also loved the apple scene, the tree-house scene, you get the point. This book was neat!

Overall: Loved this one! I loved watching Kate discover some mistakes should happen while others shouldn't. I loved Mitch! He was my favorite of the two guys.

Cover: It's very neat. At first glance, I thought they were different girls and this was a story about two girls. It wasn't. LOL

What I'd Give It: 5/5 Cupcakes

reviewd on my blog here:

Another amazing book by Stacey Jay, mostly everyone in their life has thought one time or another, what would happen if you could just erase that one moment in time and redo it. If you’re like me a lot of embarrassing things happen and you wish you could go back in time and forget about it, well this was all possible for Katie.

Katie and Isaac have been together for years. They have been happily in love with each other, and even planned their future together. Until one night Katie cheats on Isaac, with Mitch a friend between the two of them. Isaac soon finds out and dumps Katie. She has regretted the kiss ever since, and has been wishing she could change what happened in the spur of the moment. That night the locket she borrowed from her grandmother’s jewelry case starts getting really hot and she soon finds herself unconscious and waking up at the same party where she kissed Mitch. Before it happened.

Katie finally has the chance to redo that moment in time where she messed up and she could still live happily ever after with Isaac. Still shocked and trying to figure out what had happened she still didn’t understand how she went back in time. Each time she wished she could redo something the locket would heat up and let her redo the moment over again. Each time she redid her future, the more the future was changing. For the worse. She didn’t realize that changing those moments led to other nasty possibilities in life.

After she saw that the locket was causing more harm than good she tried taking the necklace off, the clasp just wouldn’t come undone! She tried everything to get it off, she even went to the tool shed and tried wire cutters but the locket still wouldn’t come undone.
This book had many unexpected twists.

I loved the idea of how Katie traveled back in time to fix her mistake but the outcome always ·É²¹²õ²Ô’t a good thing. Katie learned that fixing your mistakes ·É²¹²õ²Ô’t a good thing, at first it seemed like it, but in the end it ·É²¹²õ²Ô’t worth it.

I was very happy with the outcome of the book. It made me end the book with a smile.
I would recommend this book to many people who love a good love story once in awhile :)

Wow, this book was an intense roller-coaster ride. From the first chapter, all the way to the last, I was racing through trying to figure out what happens, hoping and praying everything turns out okay. I thought I had it pegged multiple times only to be proved wrong, yet again, that I had it wrong. This book was so frustrating I was almost to the point of throwing it at the wall--or out the window if I could get it open. But that doesn't mean it was bad; the frustration kept me reading in the hopes of a solution to all the shit that Katie's life was turning to.

I love and hate the locket(not the book but the actual locket). At first I thought it was this great thing--go back and fix a mistake that"wasn't meant to last." But when everything started changing, at first small changes, then big stuff I knew it wasn't something good. It was good and bad; it was bad in that it gave Katie an easy-way-out of her problems rather than staying to face them, but it in the end it also gave her different perspective on her life and the things and people in it.

It even opened my eyes to the people and things in her life. At first I was just as enthralled by the illusion of Isaac and Katie's relationship and how great a person he was; however, as the story progressed and we see more of his character and the two of them together, the illusion is broken when you realize how it doesn't feel right. I wanted to yell at Katie "why are you still with him?!" when I saw how Isaac treats her, even in the FIRST chapter!

And then there's Mitch, who is just about the sweetest, funniest, and genuine guy, not to mention a GREAT friend. He was himself the whole way through, even within the do-over's the locket created. Each and every time there was that moment when Katie finally sees Mitch and recognizes how "right" it feels with him, yet she continues in her pursuit of fixing what in reality was meant to be broken.

Overall, this book was great. It had lovable characters, an insane and intriguing plot that keeps you reading, and ending that makes all the frustrating and crazy emotions totally worth it. A definite must read!

It took me a little while to read this. I'm used to Jay's wry humor in her Megan Berry books (You are so Undead to Me and Undead Much?) or her satirical humor in My So-Called Death. So in other words I'm used to her Zombie humor. The Locket is a completely different horse. Jay's wit is evident--Katie is nothing if not a quick thinker--but it just didn't grab me the same way.

Everybody has mistakes they wish they could undo, so when Katie gets the ability to she jumps at the chance. Who thinks of consequences right? Whatever went wrong, fixing that mistake, things must end better right? These are the sort of questions Katie grapples with. She goes back, makes things right...but nothing ends how she likes it. I'm the sort of person who obsesses over how if I had gone left instead of right, or hung out with this friend instead of that one, would that have changed things?

This was a fairly easy book to figure out, there wasn't any tension or gripping surprises. I wouldn't necessarily say that it was completely predictable--some of the ripples from Katie's alteration to the time line surprised me certainly--but the end result was what I thought it would be. Look at it this way, she kissed Mitch for a reason. Undoing that doesn't mean that the underlying reason went away.

Jay does raise the question of whether just because you can change something, does it mean you should? Slipping back and forth in time isn't a piece of cake for Katie--the Locket kind of just drags her around in that regard--so there are times when Katie can make a decision to change something, but doesn't. Or her new decision is even worse then the old one.

Regardless this was an enjoyable and quick read, Jay's writing style appeals to me because its light and witty, not angst-ridden and prosy. Her books also highlight teenagers who aren't perfect, but who try to improve themselves and be a better person. By anyone's reckoning I think that's a win for Young Adult novels.

To my surprise this book was really great. Usually I'm no fan of "time-travel" books, due to the fact that they tend to be nerdy and totally unrealistic, but this was definitely an exception. It was an easy read and fast-paced...I zipped through it in a couple of days-but it wasn't a bad thing. The Locket always kept me close enough to the edge of my seat. By the time I really got into, I couldn't put it down.

Throughout the course of the book and by the end the protagonist-Katie-has learned tons about herself and who she really is. Katie also discovers what real love is and who she wants to share it with. Will it be lighthearted Mitch or her jockey boyfriend of three years-Issac? Oh yes. The infamous love triangle once again. Not a bad thing of course. I mean, who doesn't like to have choices?

Stacy Jay is a fairly good writer and she keeps you guessing. The unexpected twists and turns tend to lure you into the book further and further. Unfortunately, the characters are a bit lacking. Katie especially tends to be a bit undeveloped and dull-besides her love for theatre. Her infatuation with a self-centered boyfriend eventually sends her running into the arms of Mitch. Yet, she is so naive and so completely heartless towards him throughout her do-over. Of course, she makes up for it by the end. On the other end, Issac, Katie's long-time bf is totally undeserving. He is consumed by basketball and dismisses Katie's achievements and goals-of course he genuinely loves/loved her but his love for her wavers as does her love for him.

The one thing about this book that bothered and continues to bug me was the fact the the author never made her "lesson" or moral of the story clear and evident to me. I was left guessing what exactly her message was. What? "Don't try to erase the biggest mistake of your life"?, "Live in the moment"? or "Don't wear your grandmother's jewelry"? Still guessing there, but maybe that was Stacy's purpose. Who knows?

Katie, Isaac and Mitch are childhood friends. Katie's life pretty much revolves around her popular boyfriend Isaac's. She has to be at all his games and sit with his popular friends at lunch that don't even like her. Without Isaac she feels like an outsider and feels as though he defines her. Isaac is a popular jock and everyone loves him. He's a little selfish and self-absorbed without really knowing it. I believe if Katie really put her foot down with him about not being there for her he might have made the effort to try. Mitch is my favorite character. He's attentive, hilarious, and seems like a lot of fun to be around. He's also lead singer of his own band. No wonder Katie ended up kissing him!

When Katie's boyfriend Isaac finds out that she kissed Mitch, her life gets turned upside down. Isaac wants nothing to do with her and she feels as if she'd do anything to get that moment back. Next thing you know the locket that she "borrowed" from her grandmother's jewelry begins to burn and she's transported back to before the kiss. When this happens she's all excited thinking she can get in there, be the best girlfriend she can be, stay away from Mitch and everything will be all good. Ummmm....NOT.

It's just like the butterfly effect. Once you try to change one thing lots of other things will change. When Katie does this time travel things become a lot clearer to her. She thought she had a great life before with Isaac when now that she's analyzing everything she see's that it's not. She begins noticing more of his faults that all seem to have contributed to her kissing Mitch in the first place.

I really enjoyed this one. There's so much going on that you can't even try to predict what's coming up next. Stacey Jay tries something different and hits a home run.

This book just left me speechless when I finished it. It stirred some really raw emotions inside of me, making my cry uncontrollably, gasp in horror, slam my tablet down in useless frustration and smile like I'd just won the lottery. It was like all my emotions were pouring out for the entire world to see. For the entire duration I spent reading this book I acted like a freaking bipolar -- changing moods so fast even I started to confuse myself.

The story starts with Katie getting dumped by her long-time boyfriend Isaac on both her birthday and their third anniversary. Katie had done something unforgivable by his standards and he'd left her five miles away from her home. Katie had been devastated (she'd been obsessed with making him love her which was futile, if you ask me, because that boy had deeper feelings for BASKETBALL rather than for her) but then -- boom! -- Katie's given a second chance with the guy.

She's transported two weeks back in time by the magical piece of jewelry that she had around her neck, known also as the locket. She's grateful for the opportunity and goes to high extents to avoid conflicts between her and Isaac. (The way she kept obsessing over him was creepy and downright annoying, and the main reason why I disliked Katie so much.) Little did she know that this do-over wasn't for the sake of saving her relationship with Isaac -- it was about saving someONE else.

This debut had a pitch-perfect teen voice that I'm sure lots will also enjoy.

If you were given the chance to fix your biggest mistake, would you take it?

Life as Isaac's girlfriend was pretty much perfect for Katie. Until the night she messed everything up by cheating on him with their mutual best friend, Mitch. Katie is devastated over her mistake- and she'll do anything to get Isaac back.
Then on her seventeenth birthday, she discovers a strange and beautiful locket. Katie puts it on and finds herself going back in time- to the night she and Mitch kissed. Katie is thrilled at the chance to do it all over again. If she can change the past, maybe she can save her perfect future with Isaac. But as other aspects of her life become inexplicably altered, she realizes that second chances come with a dark price.
Should she have tampered with fate? Or is the most extraordinary kind of life the one that's far from perfect?

This book was a fast paced page turner. I was suprised at the twists and turns in the book. It was an interesting spin on time travel also. I'd recommend this book to anyone who likes young adult books, time travels, or just a great fast paced read with lots of unexpected events in it.

I usually don't like time travel stories but this one was kinda light and not to much for me to keep up with or understand. It revolves around Katie and her boyfriend Issac who she has loved since they were kids. There has been an kiss between her and their mutual friend Mitch and Katie feels so guilty about it that she wishes she could go back and erase it from happening so they can all just go back to being friends and no hurt feelings between any of them. Katie gets her wish when she happens upon a locket of her visiting grandmother's and tries it on and is taken back to before the kiss but sometimes things are better left alone and is changing the past really for the best?

I have said a million times, in my own life, if only this woulda happened or if only I could go back but after reading The Locket I think I will leave destiny to fall as it may. Things really do happen for a reason and too much can be horribly messed up if we are to be allowed to go back and "fix" things. It's a book that made me really think about my life and realize that some of the best things in my life are some of the things I never even dreamed up and am so thankful for.

"On her seventeenth birthday, Katie discovers a locket and decides to wear it for good luck. But when her boyfriend Isaac finds out she cheated on him - with their mutual best friend Mitch, no less - he dumps her, leaving her devastated.

And then a miracle happens. The locket burns on Katie's chest and she feels herself going back two weeks in time, to the night she cheated with Mitch. At first, Kate is delighted to be a better girlfriend to Isaac this time around. But as other aspects of her life become inexplicably altered, she realizes that changing the past may have had a dangerous effect on her present."

This was a really fun BOOK!
IT discussed an intresting concept, like how many times did i or anyone else wish that he could go back in time and change what he had done ... for me this happened million times!

I really enjoyed all of the characters. They were all very well develOPED .AND The writing is excellent, lots of twists and turns AND It wasn't overly predictable, but there were some POINTS you could see coming, it didn't really bother me though since it's done in a way that's fun and you just gotta know how this is all going to end.

THIS BOOK WAS AMAZING!!! I couldn't put it down.

The book starts off plunging you immediately into the story. There's no bs-ing, fooling around, or some kind of get to know period. No, it's BAM, this is happening now, here we go.

The characters are really interesting and they all have depth. Katie, the main character, can be kind of dumb sometimes, but I looked past it because this is a book about figuring out your mistakes. She made plenty of them, but she realized that there was something else going on instead of blindly believing her way was right.

This book is totally unpredictable. There were many times I thought one thing was going to happen, but a completely other thing (that I would never had thought of) did.

Jay wasn't afraid to "go there" either. The book was light and fluffy at some parts, where as at others it was dark and suspenseful.

Just looking at this book might make you think "oh its just a fluff book". It isn't. It's a very creative twist on the dream of being able to fix your mistakes. I highly recommend reading it :)

Great book. The Locket will have you asking the question "what if" over, and over...and over again. If you ever wondered what it would be like to go back in time and change the past, undo a mistake, then this is the book for you!

Katie was a great leading lady. See does tend to question what's going on and whether or freak out about the small things that changed, but wouldn't you? Other than Mitch and Sarah, the other characters were a bit stereotypical. You have the superficial basketball star and the popular beautiful, but deadly if crossed, mean girls. They don't have much depth, but still. They're entertaining, to say the least.

I will say that the book drags a little in the middle, but the author makes up for that with sweet, tender, and even horrifying events. It'll have you lauging one minute and heartbroken the next.
