Teil 2 der TMNT Splitter Collection enth盲lt wieder einige One Shots, die regul盲re Ausgaben 13-20, sowie die Miniserie "Geheime Geschichte des Foot-Clan".
Insgesamt schwankt die zeichnerische Qualit盲t leider etwas, was mir leider den Spa脽 etwas nimmt.

It's hard to rate such a large book, so I'll give it three stars because there are parts I really enjoyed (the origin of the Foot clan) and parts I felt dragged a bit (rescuing the Princess etc).

It's fun seeing this iteration of the characters, and I like the art overall, although I wish there was a bit more variation in the designs of the turtles, it'd be nice to be able to tell them apart when they aren't wearing masks or weapons.

Sometimes the toughest lessons are learned when the closest people to our hearts are in danger. It鈥檚 during those trying times that emotions take over and individuals are primed to learning something that might change them forever. For four teenage mutant ninja turtles, the heat of the moment always brings them closer but their sensei warns them that violence is not always the answer despite making use of it to protect those you love. And sometimes there are individuals that require violence and nothing but the deadliest form of violence to put an end to a vicious cycle. But is that really true? In the latest IDW collection, Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, and Michelangelo go to unimaginable places and put to use their unique abilities to save the world.

What is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The IDW Collection (Vol. 2) about? Picking up where the previous volume ended, the turtles return with their sensei and embrace their new mission after surviving a deadly encounter against Shredder. As they each learn a precious lesson following a tragic event touching one of their closest friends, the turtles continue to fall back on their intimate and powerful bond as a family to get back up and move forward. While their fated foe Shredder鈥檚 ambitions will inevitably bring them to the edge and for their hands into committing an unforgivable act, they must first thwart General Krang鈥檚 master plan before his all-out war transforms Earth.

This stunning oversized hardcover edition with a grey ribbon marker collects, in recommended reading order, issues #13-20, the Casey Jones, April O鈥橬eil, Fugitoid, Krang, and Baxter Stockman micro-series one-shots, as well as The Secret History of the Foot Clan mini-series.

Fans of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will undoubtedly appreciate this second volume that continues to capture the heart and soul of these teenagers and pursues its creative vision for an ever-expanding world of this franchise with earnest authenticity. Not only does it take its time to properly build the strong relationship that these anthropomorphic creatures have between each other and with the outside world, but it also explores the core values by which they all abide by, beautifully crystalizing their personalities, motives, and ambitions through experience but also adversity. While family remains a core theme, the story also looks to introduce new characters, heroes and villains, and pushes these turtles to uncharted territory (e.g., other dimensions) to give this universe a truly boundless scope. This volume also ends with a Foot Clan mini-series that offers fans an insightful and unique story that adds depth to the lore.

This time around, the main issue鈥檚 artwork was tougher to indulge. Both Andy Kuhn and Ben Bates do a decent job in portraying the characters and their emotions, as well as the action sequences in all of their glory, but the rough penciling with little details make for a forgettable journey in terms of artistic appreciation. In fact, it often just looks like sketches with thick colouring that compensates for its flaws. Fortunately, The Secret History of the Foot Clan mini-series has writer and artist Mateus Santolouco who does a formidable job in both departments. Much more detailed, expressive, and mesmerizing. Nonetheless, there鈥檚 an impressive balance between world-building, character development, and explosive action sequences, and that鈥檚 all they need to keep on doing for this series to stay on the right lane.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The IDW Collection (Vol. 2) is a fantastic volume further exploring the bond between the turtles and their rat sensei and the vast universe in which they coexist.

Yours truly,

After the first confrontation with the Shredder, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are reunited with their father/sensei Splinter, whilst all five are reunited with April O鈥橬eil and Casey Jones, all of which have become a family. The theme of family runs throughout this series, which brings out the dramatic best, whether it is Karai trying her best to serve her grandfather/master, the Shredder, or a whole issue devoted to Casey, who is trying to take care of his abusive alcoholic father.

The Casey Jones One-Shot leads to some great character moments as upon seeing what Casey鈥檚 father has done to his son, Raphael angrily confronts the abusive father without really thinking what to do, only for Splinter to do something quite shocking. I think we can all agree that Splinter is the best TMNT character as despite having words of wisdom for his sons, he is conflicted, not least with reunited with the Shredder, who had caused him harm in a past life, and thus an anger waiting to be unleashed. Don't worry, Splinter doesn鈥檛 kill anyone, but accepts Casey enough as his family that he can stay in their home in the sewers.

The Micro-Series One-Shots are actually the best issues, with each one giving a spotlight to any of the characters, usually for their backstories. Whilst the April O鈥橬eil One-Shot is a fun heist tale, in which she narrates how weird her life has gone, the Fugitoid and Krang issues are the early signs of how cosmic the Turtles鈥 adventures can be. The cosmic angle becomes very apparent with the main series as after the character drama and a brief confrontation with a classic TMNT villain, Slash, the Turtles find themselves in some intergalactic war, a tradition that happens in nearly TMNT incarnation.

With Andy Kuhn drawing a lot of the main issues, he follows the same problem of Dan Duncan's art as despite the good intentions from crafting action to expressing how a character is feeling, the overall art lacks polish and at times, looks unfinished. When the story does take the Turtles into space, Ben Bates takes over as the artist and has cleaner line-work and embraces that mixture of ninja action and Star Wars laser blasting. Going back to the Micro-Series One-Shots, the artists on those, such as Mike Henderson, are doing much better with their styles and makes you wish that they were involved in the main issues.

The volume ends on a high note with the four-issue miniseries The Secret History of the Foot Clan, in which a university professor claims to have discovered hidden secrets about The Foot Clan, and that makes him a target for the Shredder. Whilst the Turtles attempt to the stop the Foot from retrieving said secrets, we get flashbacks to how the clan came to be with Oroku Saki having his own origin story into becoming the Shredder. Certainly, the one thing to take away from this arc is the stellar art by Mateus Santolouco, who can actually change his style, from the present-day street-based action, to the flashbacks that are reminiscent of Japanese ink paintings.

With these IDW Collection volumes, it crams in a lot of issues with a variety of creators involved, in which the quality can vary. That said, this volume is mostly successful with a variety of stories where our Heroes in a Half-Shell can go anywhere.

I don鈥檛 have too much new to say, but in a nutshell, this is still an excellent follow-through. This collection starts with the Sins of the Fathers (Vol. 4) storyline, and it was brilliant; the art suffered big time, but the writing was some of the strongest in the series. That family dynamic, dealing with the fallout of volume 3, deals with the personal lives of certain key figures in the family. Certain philosophies of Splinter are being challenged in a very compelling manner. Volume 5, I would say, is much weaker in both its art and writing; it definitely suffered here, with the one shot being one of the most compelling aspects surrounding that storyline. There are some high moments; it just lacks the same overall consistency as the others. Thankfully, it ends with a banger, The Secret History of the Foot Clan. Mateus Santolouco did an excellent job with these four issues, stylistically, it's beautiful and the best in the series by far. The colours by Jo茫o Vieira are also well handled, and the story was a welcome one. It gives much-needed context. So yeah, it's a good follow through and I'm excited to continue this series.

This volume started with the Casey Jones one-shot and dang, was it heartbreaking. I thought this one single issue showed beautifully who Casey is and what he is about. Excited to see his character develop throughout this run. Continuing in the main series, Raphael, Casey, and Splinter are all showcased in a hugely emotional way in dealing with Casey鈥檚 abusive and alcoholic father. The realness and seriousness of the situations here really elevate this Turtle鈥檚 run for me. I was really excited to see Slash, a villain that I鈥檓 familiar with from previous TMNT properties also! I think him working with Old Hob will make quite a villainous duo for this team! I loved the Baxter Stockman issue in this one especially! Throughout this story he has come off as mild and very intelligent, but this issue shows his true nefarious intentions and reassures us that he doesn鈥檛 just intend to be a pawn for Krang. The history of the foot clan miniseries was fantastic! While initially skeptical about the reincarnation idea in this run, I fully embrace it now. I think I was thinking they wouldn鈥檛 go into very much detail about this and would just let it pass by, but I definitely appreciate the depth of history and world building set forth in these issues. Very excited to see these villains and their stories throughout this run!

Indeed, Mikey. Cool.

This was a fun sequel! Maybe it dragged a bit in the middle, I found myself checking out a bit around the sci-fi elements, but the history of the Foot Clan segments more than made up for my vague dissatisfaction with the sci-fi storyline. The art in this one feels a bit more inconsistent than the previous volume, not a lot of high points to look and marvel at.

Still a fun entry in a series I don't regret starting!

While this obviously continues taking the story forward the real focus here feels like telling backstories to events and characters.

We learn about how Krang rose to power and his plans to conquer the world of Neutrino, as well as introducing a new character called The Fugitoid in an amazing way that was as impressive to read this time round as it was the first.

The character of Baxter Stockman was fleshed out more and it was good to see Mikey shown to have deeper feelings and skills than just that of a laid back good time seeker (although he's still the most chilled of the group)

The book is ended off with the 4 part mini series, The Secret History of the Foot Clan. This is a story that reads better as one sequential story rather than having to wait weeks at a time for the next instalment. As much as I can suspend my disbelieve when it comes to comic stories, I was very much on the side of Donnie about the whole reincarnation angle. This mini changed that. A well told tale set both in the present day and ancient Japan, we see how Shredder came to be and how our heroes learn of this themselves.

As I type this review I've come to the realisation that this volume is very much about becoming the alpha when it comes to your father. I can count four instances on the top of my head that focused on getting even or overtaking a dad. When your reading the series monthly it's not something that you're definitely going to pick up on. Having it in a large bind up really helps to see what the creators were saying. Another reason ( not that I need one) to read the books in trade as well as in singles.

This was another 5 star read. There was no way it would be anything else. So far I'm seeing no sign any of the books will receive less as the series is still going as strong as when it began. Yes it's not a cheap purchase but the amount of issues and the fact it's collected in recommended reading order makes it very easy for me to justify and recommend it as a purchase.

My friends and I have conducted two interviews with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles co-creator Kevin Eastman and you can watch them here and here

Just as dope as the previous volume. This one focuses mainly on the Turtles battling Krang. The final battle on Dimensions X was truly badass and exciting. Eastman and Waltz do a really good job of setting up tension before climactic moments. They don鈥檛 rush the interpersonal drama and character development either.

The last portion of this story focuses on Shredder and The Foot Clan, and features some really cool ancient samurai flashback parts.

I don鈥檛 know what else to say except this series fucking rules. These collections rule. They perfectly chronicle the Micro-Series books and the main title, and at no point does it feel recycled or tired. This incorporates the best elements from all Turtle iterations. Some 1987 show here, some Mirage comic run there, a dash of the movies... this really is the ultimate turtle thing, and I pity whoever denies themselves the supreme joy of experiencing it.

Continues its strong start. Really enjoyed the ongoing/overarching story, but the last 4 issues - The Secret History of the Foot Clan - was the highlight for me. The only "stinker" was the one micro-series issue on Krang. That one just fell flat for me. Overall still worth a read and a definite buy for TMNT fans.

Coming from the perspective of someone who grew up watching the Turtles cartoon in the 90鈥檚 this has been a fun update. There鈥檚 plenty of 鈥渙h yeah鈥 moments and characters that I鈥檇 forgotten about as well as a more developed story.

I feel like we鈥檙e still in the infancy of everything. Learning backstories with the occasional bomb dropped on us. Everything just feels right. I鈥檓 very excited to continue to volume 3.

The Secret History of the Foot Clan mini was the perfect cherry on top of this fun pizza. Dude.

Quite a lot to love in this one. Really love how the panels are either really sparse in their backgrounds or completely overflowing with details. Makes for a really fun read.

The Casey Jones stuff is kind of incredible in this. The dimension x stuff is probably the least exciting thing in this volume, but even that is still pretty good. It ranges from pretty good to incredible, but issue to issue it's an incredibly satisfying read.

A fine continuation, some excellent tales such as the 5th mutant turtle, the heart break of casey jones.

And the secret history of the foot clan.

Some wonderful weaving of the elements in play as the krang and shredder tales connect.

But a significant krang arc that doesn't really hit the mark drags the volume down oversll

This one took me a LOT longer to get through than I thought, but once I got to the "History of the Foot" sections I breezed through.

Aside from being about one of my favorite childhood ninja groups, they are also just some of the best stories I鈥檝e read! The writing of these books so far is phenomenal. Every side issues connects so beautiful to the main story and it makes them feels justified for existing as they add character development and even push the main plot forward or flesh out the past in some instances.
The starting half of this volume is very Krang focused, with focus on Stockman trying to survive on Krangs island and working on the techno, while we also learn about the origins of the fugitoid robot professor Honeycutt and how he was original a scientist on the planet Krang is trying to conquer until one day while being forced to work for Krang he escaped with his family, but then shortly after lost them and his own body, now stuck in the fugitoid for life. We also get to see an all out war between the planets resistance fighters and Krangs forces as the turtles are teleported there by accident and quickly join the resistance in the war. I thought the main story would lose some momentum here, but you really get sucked into this story, the turtles make new Allies on this far away planet and end up saving the King and Queen and defeating Krangs forces, forcing him to leave the planet and retreat to his island on earth. We also get to see Krangs origins and how we was lazy and spoiled until he decided to prove himself to his father and became stranded on a harsh word and learned to survive and conquer and become the Krang we know. He even took his fathers greatest enemy and made him the body we see Krang use today, this story fleshed out his character so much and gave extra motivation for his actions to save his whole race.
Even with this big war on a different planet all the way in Dimension X, we still get those slower and more personal stories, such as when Casey lost his mother years ago and she explained how his father wasn鈥檛 a strong person like she and Casey are, and that鈥檚 why he drinks and acts the way he does, and with her dying breath wishes that Casey takes care of his father and that he let his father always feel strong (little does she know that means Casey let鈥檚 him beat him every night). Well finally his father went too far and beat Casey real good in present day and this makes Raph snap and try to go kill Caseys father. But we get an amazing scene with Splinter holding a blade to Casey鈥檚 fathers throat and asking if Raph would look at him different if he ended this man鈥檚 life. We get a heart to heart moment with Raph and splinter about how hard anger can be to control, but to never give into it and lose clarity.
We also see the creation of Slash the turtle as he was created with some of Hobs blood to hunt down the turtles and splinter. Well during Aprils attempt to infiltrate her old work and figure out how Stockgen is connected to Krang, Slash escapes and hunts the turtles down, this is where we get another personal moment as Mikey鈥檚 favorite pizza homie Woody is attacked and hurt bad by Slash and I love that at the end of this story Splinter explains to the other turtles to never speak Ill of Mikey鈥檚 compassion and softness, as his gift to feel the need to love others, and to be loved himself is a rare gift, as Splinter says this we see Mikey walking away from his favorite pizza place with the usually pizza, but with a single tear coming from his face, and we see a note inside the pizza, Woody can no longer be a part of Mikey鈥檚 life due to the danger. Loved this moment. Pulled on the heart strings. We also get to see a moment of conflict with Leo as he accidentally kills Slash (he doesn鈥檛 really, as Hobs finds him injured), but Leo struggles with what he believes he has done, he felt justified to save his family, but it pulls at his gut.
Finally in the back half we focus way more on Shredder and the Foot Clan, seeing their true origins and how they came into existence and how the OG leader dealt with a Witch who offered him immortality by working with a demon, a demon we learn is really one of Krangs species from hundreds of years ago. We then see how the OG leader is over thrown and the new leader changes the Foots ways to that of honor and he has a son, aka shredder, who grows along side Splinter until we see Shredder learn he has the OG clan leaders soul in him and he is essentially him reborn, then he murder his father and turns the Foot bad again and it leads to the events that lead up to the death of Splinter, his wife and the 4 kids. Then we even get to see afterwards, how Shredder over threw the 鈥淒emon鈥 the witch dealt with and found a way to ensure he remained alive and asleep until awoken in the present day New York. All while in present day the Foot and the Turtles and gang fight through the streets for a professor who has extensive knowledge of the Foot Clans past as Shredder wants him to hopefully learn the location of the old Witch in present day.
Another amazing volume and so much is going on, but yet it remains cohesive and interesting to read. We have Krang and Stockman working on the Techno on the island after the defeat, and Shredder with the professor working to find the Witches location as well as being Leo over to shredders side. We have Hobs recruiting Slash for something, and we have the Turtles and gang stuck in the middle of it all. Both past, present, future, and other dimensions all wrapped into one neat story. Can鈥檛 wait for Vol 3!
