Yusuf al-Qardawi opens the book with a dialogue of him with his friend, where he remembers the desperate situation of Muslims in general, and Arabs in particular, the destruction of Islamic world. But in this dialogue, his friend continues with some rhetoric questions about that time that came for Muslims to change, about that this darkness will come to an end, about that the days of victory have come back鈥 For this, the author affirms that we must focus on two basic facts: on that our Ummah鈥檚 spirit is Islam, and on identifying our main problems. Yusuf Al-Qardawi emphasizes the greatness and the nobleness of Islam, it鈥檚 great role in the history of humanity, Islam鈥檚 role in Muslims鈥 life through history, in guiding us all and saving people from ignorance. Talking about the second fact we should focus on, Yusuf Al-Qardawi identifies some major problems of us. He considers that the biggest one is the 鈥渋ntoxicated, distracted and mindful鈥 particularity of this nation. Among some other identified problems of Muslims, the author talks about national, regional or lingual fanaticism, about imported ideologies; about the gap within each country between rulers and subjects and about the gap between cultured elite and the public. In the second chapter, Yusuf Al-Qardawi mentions the conditions of victory, as they reflect in the Qur鈥檃nic verses. He identifies three conditions: 鈥 Victory is only gained by the help of Allah; 鈥 Allah supports only those who support him, those who abide by His precepts; 鈥 The support is only for the believers; since the faith needs care and incubation, as a plant need truthful and patient farmers to look after throughout the phases of growth by watering, fertilizing and using pesticides. In the third chapter, the author is highlighting the fact that the greatest concern of Muslim reformers is to raise a new Muslim generation that deserve to be named 鈥 the generation of victory. Y. Qardawi considers that this is the first priority of Muslim nation. That generation is the one that realize its goal, that make their way to glory, know themselves and their Rabb, their religion, world, heritage, age, life, friends and foes. The fourth chapter is focused on the sharing responsibility of women and men in transmitting Islam鈥檚 message and establishing its rule on earth. In the fifth chapter, the author describes the characteristics of this desired generation as they come out from Qur鈥檃n and Sunnah. The members of that generation are with Allah through love, with believers through mercy, with disbelievers through sternness, with truth through sincere Jihad for Allah鈥檚 cause, with all people through advice. The expected generation is the one that believe in reality and science, that respect the mind, admit the solid proof, reject myth and do not follow conjecture and what souls fancy. They learned from the Holy Qur鈥檃n and Sunnah that thinking is obligatory; contemplation is worship; seeking knowledge is Jihad. This generation is the one that believe that teamwork is a duty and necessity, a duty forced by religion and a necessity imposed by reality. Also, this generation is the one for whom truth stands clear from error; so they reject Taghut and anything worshipped besides Allah. The kinship of these individuals is Islam and their loyalty is only for the Muslim Ummah. In chapter seven, Yusuf Al-Qardawi describes this generation as powerful and honourable. They are guided by Allah, honored by His religion, supported by His power and enriched by His richness. Despite the calamities, they are always on alert, fervent, patient, unshakable and hopeful. They are moderate, balanced and on a straight path (Chapter 8). They do not tilt toward right of left, do not indulge in material life, nor sink in spirituals. They do not neglect their bodies to purify the soul, nor ignore the soul to satisfy the bodily desires. They mingle both soul and substance together; worldly life and the Hereafter; science and faith; materialism and idealism; intelligent mind and pure heart. Yusuf al-Qardawi highlights the penitent and repentant characteristics of this generation (Chapter 9). The author says that they fear the hearts鈥 sin more than bodily ones; yet they repent and ask Allah very often for forgiveness. Summarizing all these characteristics of that desired generation, in chapter 10, Yusuf al-Qardawi concludes that raising such a generation should be the first priority of all contemporary Islamic movements, Islamic workers, Muslim intellectuals and fuqaha. All of them, especially educators, should join forces to properly prepare and build this generation spiritually, bodily, mentally, morally, socially and politically. Thus, it will born the desired triumphant generation that will free Palestine and every land鈥 this will be the generation that will deserve Allah鈥檚 support and all the others. The author ends with a call for today鈥檚 sons and daughters, to scum to the phase of strength and construction, and miss the greatest bargain ever in this world and the Hereafter.
