In some way just an overview of the tools, with a little dive into queries. For me was just a waste of time

I got about 13% in and had to stop reading this book. Because of the amount of useless filler, I found I'm not getting what I want from it. For example, here's a passage:

An indexÌýis a container that stores and manages documents of a single type in Elasticsearch. We will look at type in the next section. An index can contain documents of a single Type, as depicted in the following diagram: (diagram)

An index is a logical container of a type. Some configuration parameters are defined at the index level, while other configuration parameters are defined at the type level, as we will see later in this chapter.

All of that could be written succinctly as "An index contains documents of a single type. Later, we will discuss how both index and type can configured."

I get the feeling that the author is knowledgeable about the subject, and both he and the editor really tried to create a clear, comprehensive book about these tools, but it made the book into a long, choppy string of powerpoint bullet points.

I read a few chapters and they were well explained for beginners I actually learned a lot from the book about the structure, benefits and usage of Elastic Search , although there were some points which needed further explanation but I liked how it referenced the documentation, however I'm planning on going back to read the chapters I skipped when I need to

Quick and distilled with just enough information to get you going and be productive on the new ELK stack. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in this topic.

I wanted to brush-up my knowledge and see what is new. I got what I wanted.

I didn’t have time to do learn ES on my own. This guide has all the relevant stuff to get ES up a running and understanding the basics and tricky parts. It helped me with my Final Degree Thesis.
