I just wish we got a bitThis was pretty alright and I overall had a good time reading it. Definitely had a good premise and a good set up for a story. I just wish we got a bit more. I would have liked a little more of the relationship building and showing them falling for each other. It was really heavy on the sex scenes (which were all very dark) but I would have liked more actual relationship scenes I think. I also would have loved more world building. I love reading sci-fi books and this book touched a bit on the world building, talking about the college a bit and different planets and galaxies but really never went into detail on any of it. You could almost forget you're reading a sci fi book. Mostly I really hated their names. Baikal and Rabbit. They were the worst....more

I thought it was so sweet and cute. Once they got together the second half really fizzled out and dragged a bit. The set up for the next book is pretty interesting though.
Also I was so confused on the timeline of this book. There would be time jumps without a note saying how long it had been. The next chapter could have started the next day, the next month, or even the next year - you never really know. I think the whole book took place over the course of a year but I’m honestly not sure.
The scene of Beau losing his dad to cancer and Trevor coming over and comforting him was so sweet to read and my favorite part of the book. The author wrote the grief scenes so well. ...more

I actually really love the "himbo" "obliviot" "too stupid to live" kind of characters. Jesse in this book was such an idiot and I loved everything about it. (I loved everything about it in the book, I pray to the lord there is no one that stupid out there in real life). It was just so funny to read, definitely a laugh out loud book. Also, this book takes place on a cruise which I loved reading about. I need more cruise ship romance novels, send any requests if anyone knows any. What Alek did in chapter two was probably the cruelest, coldest, and most manipulative thing I've read in a romance novel and I never liked him again after that. (The explanation that comes later actually makes it worse). And that wasn't even the only asshole thing he did either. At some point I started to get annoyed at Ian for forgiving him.
I actually did enjoy the author's writing style and story telling. It kept having really creepy off putting vibes and felt like I was reading a thriller. I kept waiting for some huge thriller style twist.
I think if this had been a thriller I would have liked it better. Or if it had been marketed as a fictional story about mental health I would have liked it better. But as a romance, I really disliked it. It never felt romantic. I never felt love between these two. It seems like Alek needs to be single and work on himself because he clearly isn't ready for an adult romantic relationship....more

And for a debut I thought it was really good. I really liked the story. The premise of meeting anonymously online was fun. It was an enjoyable read.
I do feel like it needed to be edited way down. So many long paragraphs that were just over explainy and way more information than necessary. With a stronger editor this could have been so good.
Also all the slang and dialogue was so cringey to me. The way the characters spoke was just too much. Again could have been edited way down because it was just cringey. But also I’m an old lady who hates modern slang lol so maybe that’s just a me thing.
I’m looking forward to more from this author!...more

This was really forbidden romance done right. And combining forbidden romance with forced proximity- it was so good. So much pining and longing and trying to resist each other. I loved it.
Once they got together and it stopped being forbidden it became a bit meh but still enjoyable.
The weird thing about this book though is the ending. There are so many unresolved side plots? It just ended and felt unfinished and left so many unanswered questions
(view spoiler)[ There was a lot of discussion in the book about Ian wanting to become a sports agent. And also discussion of what that would mean for them as a couple. Will Ian have to move away? How will they navigate long distance? Will Ian go back and forth? None of that is resolved. We never know if Ian becomes a sports agent and has to move away. We never know if they have to start a long distance relationship due to Ian's career. We never know anything. The book ended with so much unresolved plots. What the heck? (hide spoiler)]...more

Taking a star off because sometimes the writing style was kind of weird. There would be a time jump then the character would think back on something that happened during the time jump. But why not have that scene happen in the book instead of just a quick paragraph of the character remembering it? Felt like a lot happened off page that I would have liked to see.
And also- the ending of this book was weirdly abrupt and felt unfinished? It ended in the middle of a scene. No epilogue. There is a lot I would have liked to have known that never gets resolved because the books just ends.

Loved reading about the charity match and all the members of the collective. Loved the pining between the characters and I really liked their first kiss. I actually read the first half in just one sitting and thought it was really good.
But then the second half was not really interesting to me. Not a lot going on plot wise. Chapter after chapter of the characters repeatedly having the same internal thoughts and ruminating over their problems repeatedly. I felt like I was rereading the same internal thought over again. The relationship lacked depth. Would have been nice to maybe have a few flash backs to show when they developed their feelings for each other instead of another chapter of Knox stressing over his job. The HEA felt kind of weak too. I was a bit bummed by the second half.
But finding out who book 8 will be about is pretty exciting. Just hope that book has more plot & depth than this one. ...more

My one big gripe, which was the exact same as my gripes from book 1 & 2 so I guess I should have been expecting it was (view spoiler)[ the whole book takes place over the course of like 3 days. From strangers to in love in three days. Thats a bit of a stretch for me. (hide spoiler)]
