Bryce Wilburn is a food blogger who lives in Tennessee. One year ago, she took a trip to New Orleans with her friends, and that trip changed her life forever. There, she met Sophie, a woman who Bryce instantly knew was the right one for her. While her friends mock her for believing in love at first sight, Bryce decides to stop wallowing and finally blogs about the night she met Sophie.

When a friend of Sophie’s discovers that blog post, she tells her about it, and Sophie and Bryce are finally able to reconnect. But can the magic of their chance encounter translate into more?

Finding love in a New Orleans bar after a few hours of talking isn’t supposed to happen. Yet, with Sophie and Bryce, it just might have.]]>

I really enjoyed the concept of Bryce and Sophie having this amazing meeting before being separated without exchanging numbers or last names to be able to find each other until a year later - the yearning!

I also found the side characters stole my heart just as much in this story, as we followed along with them in the sidelines.

The low-angst was just what the doctor ordered for this one. Here’s to April out soon!

February (New Orleans #2) 222583350
Monica Arnette is slated to take over the multinational business based in New York when her aging father retires. It’s been her plan all along. Not part of that plan is to take a trip down to hot and humid New Orleans as a favor to an old friend of her father’s to buy some small greeting card company that Arnette Assets doesn’t need to add to their portfolio. Also not on her list of things to do is meeting a fiery redhead who doesn’t want Monica there.

As the two women are tasked with working together, Monica discovers that there’s more to New Orleans than her first impression. Moreover, as they begin to get to know one another, maybe, just maybe, Bridgette might discover that she doesn’t mind having Monica there at all.]]>

While I think I personally didn’t click with Bridgette as a character, I liked the banter and relationship that grew between her and Monica. It was good to get a bit of a feel for New Orleans too, and man do I want to try more hot sauces after reading!

Looking forward to the rest of the series - I feel Nicole has spoilt us all this year with a new book coming out each month.

The Block Party (Holiday, #2) 60718635
Talon Mitchell had gotten a job right out of college, had her own coffee mug at the office that no one else could use, and planned to keep her job as sales manager for a long time because she had practically grown up working for this company. She was content and not looking for anything when a new sales director showed up and changed everything.

Emerson Bagley just got a new job, and while she felt ready for the next step, when she sees someone she recognizes from a holiday party working on the same team, she can’t believe her luck, both good and bad. Good, because Talon Mitchell was very attractive, very smart, and seemingly, very interested in Emerson, too. Bad, because she couldn’t date someone who worked for her, especially in her brand-new job.

Feeling the simmering heat begin to boil over, the two women decide to at least take one step and deal with the rest later. When neither of them had been prepared to seek out love, they managed to find it where they least expected it.

Books in this series:

Book #1 - The Writing on the Wall (Weston)
Book #2 - The Block Party (Talon)
Book #3 - The Fireworks (Aria)
Book #4 - The Sweet Escape (Eleanor)
Book #5 - The Misperception (Paisley)
Book #6 - The Wait Is Over (Scarlet)
Series Finale - What Happened After...]]>

Loved the setting as a mainly office based tale, and working out a developing relationship in a corporate setting.

My only (minor) gripe, was I'd just finished Book 1 before starting this, which ended up being both a blessing and a curse. It was great because the characters and storylines were all fresh in my mind, however, the first four(ish) chapters in Book 2 repeated scenes almost word for word from Book 1, but told from Talon's POV. I found myself speed reading past a few sections, as the conversations were so fresh in my mind, but once I was past that I was able to settle in and really enjoy the rest of their story. This won't be an issue if it's been a while between books.

Can't wait for the next one!

Another great read from Nicole Pyland. I've been enjoying the holiday theme between the 6 friends, and was excited to know more about Talon's stories after the hints we got from book 1 in The Writing On The Wall. Talon and Emerson definitely bring the sizzle to this one!

Make the Season Bright 206180603
It's been five years since Charlotte Donovan was ditched at the altar by her ex-fiancée, and she’s doing more than okay. Sure, her single mother never checks in, but she has her strings ensemble, the Rosalind Quartet, and her life in New York is a dream come true. As the holidays draw near, her ensemble mate Sloane persuades Charlotte and the rest of the quartet to spend Christmas with her family in Colorado—it is much cozier and quieter than Manhattan, and it would guarantee more practice time for the quartet’s upcoming tour. But when Charlotte arrives, she discovers that Sloane’s sister Adele also brought a friend home—and that friend is none other than her ex, Brighton. All Brighton Fairbrook wanted was to have the holliest, jolliest Christmas—and try to forget that her band kicked her out. But instead, she’s stuck pretending like she and her ex are strangers—which proves to be difficult when Sloane and Adele’s mom signs them all up for a series of Christmas dating events. Charlotte and Brighton are soon entrenched in horseback riding and cookie decorating, but Charlotte still won’t talk to her. Brighton can hardly blame her after what she did. After a few days, however, things start to slip through. Memories. Music. The way they used to play together—Brighton on guitar, Charlotte on her violin—and it all feels painfully familiar. But it’s all in the past and nothing can melt the ice in their hearts...right?]]>

It follows Charlotte and Brighton, two exes who find themselves together for a Christmas vacation with friends. You know it's going to be interesting when exes are involved and no one else knows about their history.

This was an enjoyable read, perfect for the holidays. The side characters were great, in particular I enjoyed Adele and Sloane.

While there was some angst and lack of communication, I got it. It made sense, and it wasn't cringeworthy.

Would recommend, so pick this up for a great weekend read.

The View from the Top 75386277 When a driven businesswoman from Boston collides with a free-spirited artist on a Vermont mountainside, they share a memorable—and steamy—night, but life soon pits them against each other over the fate of a family business.

Emily Janssen prefers to play it safe. At thirty-five, she’s still working at the inn her grandmothers own while dreaming of a day when she’s able to support herself fully with her art. And while her friends have all hiked to the summit of the mountain in their hometown of Crescent Falls, Vermont, something has always held Emily back.

Diana Devlin has already made it to the top. Well, almost. She’s this close to securing the promotion that will put her in line to take over as CEO of her family’s hotel chain when her father retires. Everything is going to plan until an unexpected run-in with an alluring artist on a mountainside throws Diana off course, resulting in one of the hottest nights either she or Emily have ever experienced.

Emily walks away from their rendezvous feeling inspired to channel some of Diana’s confidence and finally chase her dreams. For Diana, it’s a reminder that with the right woman, she is capable of wanting more than one night.

But their growing passion threatens to burn them both when they learn that the hotel Diana’s in town to buy is none other than Emily’s grandmothers beloved inn. It’s Emily’s home, and no big city outsider—not even Diana—is going to take it away from her.

Will the view from the top be worth the climb, or will they both have farther to fall?]]>

I’m always keen to read a new Rachel Lacey novel, and this was no exception.

I love hiking and outdoors, and was immediately intrigued by this small town romance. The sweetness of the setting was a nice contrast to the spice level it also dished out! Diana and Emily definitely had the chemistry down pat.

There were also a couple of stand out side characters for me - Carter was very cute, and it was great seeing his relationship with Diana. If we do get to see more of Crescent Falls, I’d also love to know more about Alex.

The only thing that felt a little unfinished or rushed to me was the side story with Harrison, it would’ve been nice to have that tied up a little more.

All in all, another great sapphic romance to add to your collection. Well done Rachel!

When You Smile 204482263
Now a transfer student at Hillspoint University, Taryn is ready to officially come out when she runs into a familiar face at a party. Charlie, now a grad student, insists on walking a drunk Taryn home. To the detriment of Taryn’s heart (and libido), Charlie has only grown kinder (and hotter) with time.

Charlie Adler has a five-year finish her MFA without any hiccups, figure out a timeline for her engagement, and become an acclaimed fiction writer. Easy, right? That is until Taryn shows up at Hillspoint and shakes up her world like a snow globe. This Taryn is soulful, brooding, and all grown up. Charlie’s never been attracted to a woman before, and isn’t dating your one-time charge against the rules? If only their toe-curling, mind-dulling, body-aching chemistry would calm the hell down.]]>

I loved the relationship between Taryn and Charlie, both when they were younger, and getting to know each other again as young adults. I felt Taryn’s friends were more interesting than Charlie’s, and would’ve liked to see them featured an extra time or two in the second half of the book.

Where the book lost me slightly was the inevitable conflict. It did feel a little rushed with a lack of communication between main characters where they’d been really good just chapters before - it didn’t quite line up for me.

Otherwise, still a good read, but the first half was definitely my favourite.

The Apple Diary 122862357
In there, she finds the love story of Isabel and Lorah, along with a photograph of the two young women from 1933. The diary, like the love affair, was short and brief, but rich and vivid enough for her to feel a true bond with the women despite the heartbreaking ending.

She is determined to get Isabel’s beloved apple orchard—which had fallen into ruins—vibrant again. She hires the inexperienced Dylan Hayes, a woman soon to be homeless, to take on the chore of restoring the orchard to its original glory.

The normally quiet and reserved Madilyn finds a new joy in life as she becomes friends with the outgoing and energetic woman who has come to live on the property. As she is transformed from a stoic and passive heiress to a happy and spirited woman, she realizes the similarities of her journey and that of Isabel’s.

Like Isabel, is she destined to marry a man she doesn’t love? Or will she find the strength that eluded Isabel and follow her heart?]]>

The Apple Diaries is a unique story that follows Madilyn Marak, an heiress staying with her grandfather who discovers an old diary from about her great-grandmother Isabel’s affair with another woman called Lorah. From the journal, she’s excited to bring the apple orchard back to life for Isabel. It’s here she meets Dylan Hayes, who she hires to help with the orchard.

Like all of Hill’s books, this story is well written with such good communication between the characters, even with both suffering with grief, it never weighed the story down. I even enjoyed reading about the side characters as much as I did with the main two.

Highly recommended sapphic romance.

Set in New York, we meet Jamie Tolliver, owner of Bordeauxnuts coffee and wine bar (with doughnuts!), and Leighton Morrow, who works for the family business - Carrington's Department Store (hello flashback to Strawberry Summer!).

While their paths meet and sparks fly at Jamie’s cafe, the reason Leighton is there in the first place is to scout the location and make way for a new department store - unbeknownst to Jamie.

Repercussions are predictably abound, but the time jump was a little jarring and quite unexpected for me. I was almost looking forward to the fallout and getting into the nitty gritty of how they'd work things out together. Despite that, it did end up making more sense as the story progressed. I think overall the story did start to drag a little, especially with the events towards the end, but we got there!

This is a great book with such a well thought out coffee shop (if only it really existed!) and two very likeable characters who did have great chemistry. Good, quick rom com read, would recommend.

After meeting Taylor in Stars Collide, I was super excited for her to get her own story, and it did not disappoint.

Taylor Vaughn is a bodyguard assigned undercover to pose as a girlfriend to Hollywood actress Natalie Keane. I thoroughly enjoyed both their own storylines and their relationship together. Plus, who doesn’t love a good fake dating trope! The story had great communication between characters, vulnerability, slow burn and a little suspense thrown in too.

Highly recommend this book, and while it could be read as a stand alone, I do recommend reading Stars Collide first, as they're both great books and you do get a little extra back story on Taylor's world.

Pyland is shaking things up again, this time diving into her new sci-fi/dystopian novel - SoulMatch - a standalone set in the TruLove universe.

With romance still at the core, this book is set in a futuristic world where we meet Theodora and Avalon. Theo and Ava were both made in test tubes and brought up to be the perfect partners for their paid "soulmates" at a company called SoulMatch. Their whole lives they are raised to believe they are the perfect match for their partners in the outside world. It's only when Theo and Ava start truly questioning everything they thought they knew that things start to really gear up - both for how they feel about each other, and what to do about SoulMatch.

This is definitely the most action packed novel I've read from Pyland. I enjoyed the adventure, danger and suspenseful aspects of the storyline, where the romance wasn't always at the forefront, but still threaded all the way through. Pyland created a somewhat scarily believable future world in some parts and definitely had you on the edge of your seat.

While sci-fi is not usually my go-to genre, it was an interesting change of pace and enjoyable read. It definitely has Brave New World vibes, for anyone that has read Aldous Huxley. Would recommend it.

Awaiting (Royalty, #4) 161159670
Alexandria or Alex, as she preferred to be called would one day be the next Queen of the United Kingdom. She would also be the first out lesbian who would take that title. Born before her younger, more accomplished brother, she’d always wondered if her parents would have preferred he’d been born first so that it would be him up next and she could fall to next-in-line after his children and never rule. When she first met the best friend of the Queen of Kleinland, she was smitten. Meeting her again and again at various events and gatherings had Alex more than smitten and wishing the woman would give her the time of day.

Bexley Woods earned her Ph. D in speech pathology and was asked by her best friend, now Queen of Kleinland, to bring speech therapy to the small country after the events of the two recent wars. Bexley moved temporarily, with the intention of building a program, and found herself with the future Queen of England there to help. Both inconvenient and interesting, Bexley wasn’t sure why the Princess was there. But, in time, she realized that the woman she thought Alex was couldn’t be further from the truth.

Finding time together and figuring out their feelings was easy when they were both in the same place at the same time. But with a domineering mother in the picture, who wanted what was best for her Princess daughter, and the need for Bexley to go home to care for a sick grandparent, the reality of their situation came to light sooner than both women would have preferred.]]>

It follows Alexandria, who goes by Alex, the next in line to be Queen of the UK, and Bexley, a speech therapist in Kansas and best friend of Alice (Queen of Kleinland from Arriving).

While we had a hint at this pairing in Arriving (Book 3), the timing wasn't right. Alex had a crush on Bexley, but Bexley had a girlfriend.

Now, with Bexley newly single in Kleinland for work and helping out Alice and Nora, it's the perfect opportunity for Alex to come visit and spend time with Bexley.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching their friendship and slow burn romance develop. As always, Pyland's dialogue is so good, with the character's communication well thought out, caring and engaging.

Awaiting is the perfect finish to the Royal series. Can be read as a stand alone, but best read in order to get all the references and back story.

Alice, a small-town teacher who had lost her parents years ago, had always felt out of place. There was just something missing in her life that she could never seem to identify. When a man showed up to tell her that she was the long-lost daughter of a King and Queen who had been exiled from their country and were now dead, Alice didn’t believe him.

Nora, a Major in the Royal Protection Service of Kleinland a small island nation in the North Sea had always fought for the crown, including the war that was lost to the rebels. While Kleinland was now being run by a dictator, who’s intent on ruining her country, Nora volunteers to find and bring back the nation’s rightful heir, a teacher in America named Alice.

Alice is hesitant to believe and claim her title as Queen of Kleinland, but the Major could be very persuasive. She’s also very attractive, and Alice is wondering why she’s never thought of a woman the way she’s thinking about the Major when she should be focused on trying to oust a dictator with his army and regain control of her new country.]]>
281 Nicole Pyland Sarah 4
At her side is Major Nora Bakker, her protector and guard, chosen to bring her to Kleinland and keep her safe. Kleinland is a small country that's been in political turmoil with the hopes that raising the monarchy will once again bring peace and power to the people. In comparison to other Pyland books, this saw a little more action and serious themes throughout.

The bond between Nora and Alice was a true slow burn with so much care, communication and growth with each other and their own inner demons.

While it was still a good read, it’s not my favourite in this series. Though to be fair, Pyland sets herself to a very high standard in my opinion. This book series can be read as stand alone but I do still recommend reading the Royalty Series in order to get the most out of them.

Nora is a woman who's shut herself out from the world. Focused on her work and forgetting the past, she's not ready for when Gray starts inching into her life. Gray and Nora are both real estate agents, who both end up winning a holiday to Bermuda courtesy of their work. It’s there that Gray, the polar opposite in personality to Nora, starts to crack through Nora’s walls.

Gray and Nora were both so interesting to get to know throughout the story, with so many layers that were carefully peeled back as we began to get to know each character. Both the personal and relationship development was well handled, realistic and very enjoyable. It was refreshing to read people getting their s**t together with good communication, growth and understanding from both sides without the cringeworthy factor!

I was so excited for the premise of the story - both with the food focus, and having great representation with a trans inclusive relationship.

I think for me, however, the book fell a little flat. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed Rey’s previous books, but something about this storyline just didn’t grab me. Everything felt a little easy with Chelsea and Bryce’s relationship - they kind of got together quick and that was that for the most part. Of course there was a little of the usual relationship drama, but it still felt a little lacking, and Bryce was a little bit of a super Mr. Nice Guy, on the edge of boring.

Also, I have to address the cover. I loved that this book featured a proud curvy chef; perhaps if the cover embraced the traits of the main character as well, it would enhance the message even further and feel more cohesive to the story.

Not a win for me, but a quick read none-the-less if you want a “quick and cosy.

When her father decided to retire, and her brother abdicated to continue his career in the military service, Elin was thrust into being not only the next in line, but the new Queen.

Ingrid, the Princess’s Private Secretary, was happy for her sometimes nervous and often klutzy Princess ascending to the throne, but because of her lack of seniority, she was disappointed to find out she won’t be Elin’s secretary any longer. When the new Queen moves mountains to keep Ingrid on her staff, Ingrid begins to wonder why she’d do that.

The new Queen’s crush is close to being revealed, and the Secretary, who’s always been professional, cannot take her eyes off of the woman she’s worked with for years. While it might seem impossible, Ingrid also can’t stop thinking about the possibility of more with the woman who will now be Queen of Norway.]]>

It follows Elin, a princess of Norway, and her private secretary, Ingrid, on Elin's journey being appointed Queen of the country. It's a position Elin surprisingly finds herself in after her father retires and her twin brother abdicates, choosing to instead focus on the military.

Elin and Ingrid have to be one of the cutest couples I've read recently. They were so thoughtful of each other, the clumsiness was adorable and I loved their cooking adventures in the kitchen.

I have to state again, while I’m not usually a fan of royal romances, something about Pyland's writing gets me every. single. time. The characters, story and small details are always so well thought out, cleverly written and very engaging. This book is no different.

Meanwhile, Palmer Honeycutt is a US reporter holidaying in St Rais when everything happens - and her boss wants her to stay and grab the story.

Get ready for a great slow burn between Lizzy and Palmer. From their very first meeting, the chemistry is Just. So. Good. I liked the slower pace, and it never once felt like it was dragging. It was just a really sweet journey to following along with.

As far as kissing the bogus bride, though, they both want to say I do .

This is Waverly Decker's debut novel, and she should be proud of this one.

For those who love a good fake dating trope, this one is for you. It tells the story of Emory, who's invited to her ex's wedding and in desperate need of a date to take along as her plus one. Plant extraordinaire, Bliss, is in the right place at the right time, and takes up Emory's offer to be her fake-date turned "fiancé".

The combination of personalities between a corporate type who can't stop working vs a fly-by-your-skirt nature lover is always going to be a good pairing, and Decker did not disappoint.

Highly recommend!

Love and Lattes 60796586
Wedding planner Taryn Ritter has a knack for making impossible dreams come true. She might not understand the appeal of getting married in a cat café, but if that’s what her clients want, then she’ll make it happen. She’s not about to let the reluctant café owner stand in her way, so she makes Bonnie an offer she can’t refuse—give her the venue for one day and she’ll find a way to get more cats adopted into happy homes.

When Bonnie and Taryn join forces to help a bunch of shelter cats find their forever homes, they just might discover forever for themselves as well.]]>

Officially converted to a cat person after reading this book. I've never owned a cat, so I definitely empathised with Taryn as she learnt about the world of cats for the upcoming wedding she was planning at the local cat cafe.

Bonnie, the cafe's owner, was happy just running her little cafe and hesitant at first to have the wedding at her store, preferring to stay out of the limelight.

It was fun to read as Taryn coaxed Bonnie into going ahead with everything after offering to do a one day super adoption event for all the cats at the local shelters in the area.

I enjoyed the wedding planning, learning about all the different cat antics at the cafe and the banter between Taryn and Bonnie.

While a little too insta-love and dramatic for me at times, it was still a nice and enjoyable read.

Fire, Water, and Rock 61440426
When budding geologist Jessica Sterling arrives to work on her thesis while camping in Washington’s Dry Falls State Park for the summer, she shatters park ranger Clare DeVere’s hope for an uneventful season. Neither can deny their unexpected attraction, but their secrets make romance impossible.

Clare’s best friend since college, Lyn, works as one of the park’s dispatchers, and her long-standing and unrequited crush on Clare grows increasingly obsessive as Clare draws closer to Jess.

Jessica is studying to be a geologist, and decides to go on a months-long camping trip to check out the rocks around Dry Falls State Park in Washington. It's here she meets Clare, one of the rangers at the park.

With instant attraction between them, we're thrown into a Summer of friends, exploring caves and hiking around the area. I thoroughly enjoyed the setting (as an avid outdoors fan myself) and learning a lot more about "just rocks" in an easy to understand way that wasn't boring at all.

For a debut novel, Erdell had conversation flowing naturally, along with well thought out side characters to keep things interesting with the plot.

My biggest gripe was with Jess' behaviour with her boyfriend. Her choices were hard to read as the issue was teased throughout the book. Knowing Jess was essentially cheating meant I couldn't fully enjoy the relationship between her and Clare, which was frustrating.

Otherwise, still a good read and really looking forward to what Erdell brings out next. Would recommend.

Here’s a glimpse into the lives of the ladies of the Holiday Series. Find out what’s been going on with Weston & Annie, Talon & Emerson, Aria & London, Eleanor & Carmen, Paisley & Trinity, and Scarlet & Dakota.

Epilogues are nice, but they’re a snapshot in time. Maybe it’s a year after the book ends, or even just a few months. Maybe there’s a wedding or another life-changing event. Maybe a character announces she’s pregnant. Maybe the characters are moving across the country.

In this group of short stories, you’ll find out about the directions the lives of Holiday Series characters have taken and will take in the coming years, how they’re doing together, how they’re doing at work, and learn about what’s coming next for each of the characters in their relationships.

If you plan to read these, please read all the books in the series first. The context of the main stories is essential for you to enjoy these post-Epilogue vignettes.

Book #1 - The Writing on the Wall (Weston)
Book #2 - The Block Party (Talon)
Book #3 - The Fireworks (Aria)
Book #4 - The Sweet Escape (Eleanor)

What Happened After - The Holiday Series follows the lives of our favourite friendship group in the years after they all paired up.

What started out as 6 friends, eventually grew to include girlfriends, wives, kids and of course, pets! Despite the size of the new group and life changes, it was great reading how they still managed to make things work over time and all catch up together at different points.

Each chapter is based on a particular couple, and time passes in years as we go through chapter to chapter. I liked this touch, it kept things fresh and fast, so you really got a feel for all the big updates from everyone (weddings, kids etc) without it feeling like a drag.

Definitely make sure you read the series first to get the most of this story.

As Lucy begins to fall for her son’s nanny, she shows her love in a series of her favorite books. Counting down the 24 days of Christmas with Morgan, by trying to tell her how she feels, worried she doesn’t feel the same.

Morgan devours each book, desperate to know if Lucy is sending her a sign. But as Christmas approaches, will each woman get what they want? Or will they be stuck out in the cold as the days of Morgan’s nannying contract are up?]]>

Morgan, who needs to find some extra cash, ends up applying to be a nanny only to find out it was the woman, Lucy, she'd slept with the previous night! They agree to keep things platonic (yeah, right!) and Morgan gets the job to look after Lucy's son Noel.

The dynamic between all three of them was so considerate and Noel was a super cute kid.

My favourite little touch was Lucy and Morgan giving each other books as little messages throughout the story, both being obsessed with books and avid readers.

My one query was there seemed to be something going on with the side characters Bella and Dylan, but this wasn't ever resolved in the story. Perhaps it wasn't meant to, but it felt like it left me hanging a bit!

All round, a nice quick read. Would recommend.

Scarlet Campbell’s friends had all coupled off, and it had happened this year. All five of them had found love while Scarlet had continued to go back and forth about coming out to her family, and on top of that, she still couldn’t talk to women. Every time she tried, she choked. She got nervous. She said something stupid. As a result, she was still a single nerd who worked as a data analyst and did coding on the side.

Dakota Wagner was new to the marketing team of a software company, tasked with building a customer community. To do that, though, she needed data. When Dakota was sent Scarlet’s way, she found the woman endlessly adorable, so she wanted to get to know more about her other than her fascination with sugar and numbers.

In Scarlet’s eyes, Dakota was sexy, smart, and would have no problem finding a girlfriend easily, so Scarlet didn’t think she’d have a chance. Little did she know that Dakota was exactly who she needed in her life to get the courage to be more herself, conquer her fears, and finally come out to her family.

What a great story between Scarlet and Dakota to round out such an amazing series. There was just so much love, care and understanding in this book, that it was wonderful to experience.

I loved that there weren't any extreme conflicts thrown in for drama, it was more watching the inner turmoil or dialogue of Scarlet needing to take some really scary and new steps in their life. As someone who came out later in life, I could empathise with this!

Also, the butch points were great. Such a laugh throughout.

Well done Pyland, looking forward to the final read on What Happened After... with all the characters.

This was an interesting read. I did enjoy the setting and story, following along behind the scenes on a TV series with all the gossip and scandals. I just found the plot concentrated more on solving who was the bad guy instead of the romance. Which was fine, just unexpected and took a little longer to get into than usual. I did really enjoy learning about the role of an intimacy coordinator though, and Birch did a great job educating and weaving this role in with Simone and the story.

I was a little confused with the couple of chapters randomly from other character POVs. It only happened once off with both side characters - Cameron and Jess, and both scenes didn't really seem necessary to be told from that POV.

I did think Simone and Evie made a cute couple, and I loved the scenes of them going shopping and out for dinner etc, I just would’ve loved more of it! However, when Evie and Simone finally do get together, Simone's actions (or non-actions!) seemed a little out of character in comparison to her job and knowledge as an intimacy coordinator. I felt like she should have known to handle a situation better.

Still a good read, and I did enjoy it overall.

Set at Camp Lustenfeld (Camp “Lost and Found) in the Adirondack mountains, the story centres on Francesca “Frankie Sisto, the current caretaker of the camp, and its sole visitor, Cassidy Clarke. Both are running away, but for very different reasons. For one, it's to lose themselves. For the other, to find themselves.

The slow build between Frankie and Cassidy was fun and cute. It was quite a different plot from a lot of tropes you find in sapphic these days, so well done Beers keeping things so fresh!

I'm not usually one for heavier themes (guilt and loss), however, Beers addressed everything so thoughtfully. Conversations and thoughts guided the story along and interwove each character's history and inner turmoil so naturally.

What I particularly enjoyed was the setting and slow pace of the book. While not everyone's cup of tea, I could really relate to just slowing down with life, appreciating nature and the quiet. It sounded like such a cute country town nearby, and the side characters were just as good as Frankie and Cassidy.

I really wanted to love this book. I loved the idea of two photographers working together (especially being a photographer myself). The on-shoot scenes were my favourite and well written.

However, I did find the conflict in the end to be a bit tiresome. I just couldn't get into the chemistry between Nicole and Quinn, and wasn't sure I believed in them as a couple with Quinn's actions. The storyline with the parents was a little weird for me too, with the amount of focus dedicated to their relationship. Although in the end I think I was rooting more for the level headed parents than Nicole and Quinn!

It was still an okay read, nice and quick for a weekend on the couch.

Paisley Hill cared about one thing she was building her company from the ground up without accepting any money from her wealthy family to do it. That was important to Paisley, and she took her job as a consultant seriously, wanting to help companies grow and get more efficient because of her ideas. The one thing Paisley hadn’t cared much about in years, was a relationship. She’d been fine with casual dates and hookups every now and then, but Paisley had watched several of her close friends find love this year, and she tried to push the loneliness and fear of losing her friends to love out of her mind.

Trinity Pascal had an idea one day, told her best friend about it, and now, years later, they were trying to establish their new company with money from investors. Trinity loved problem-solving and brainstorming, but she wasn’t much of a fan of the day-to-day business stuff. When her business-partner-and-best-friend suggests they bring in a consultant to help, Trinity is more than surprised to see her old high school bully, Paisley Hill, walk into the building.

While Trinity definitely remembers Paisley, Paisley doesn’t seem to know who Trinity is, at first. As they navigate their work relationship, and things clearly start to move from beyond work-only, both women have to decide if they’re ready for something that might just be the real thing right in time for Paisley’s nosy mother to invite Trinity to the family Thanksgiving dinner.

Eleanor’s crush turned into something more, and Carmen realized she didn’t want to be just friends right around the time of her birthday, which happened to be on Halloween, while her holiday-obsessed parents are having a special birthday event for their daughter that they do every year. Watch Eleanor and Carmen fall in love over cupcakes, coffee, and a haunted house.

This was a favourite for me so far. Out of the 6 friends, Eleanor was a quieter character that we really didn't know much about, so I thoroughly enjoyed discovering her personality, her quirks and her caring side.

Carmen on the other hand seemed like a bigger personality from the glimpses we had in Book 3 (The Fireworks), so it was great to see the two get to know each other. To learn that Carmen was a gamer too, was awesome!

What I love most about Pyland's writing is the natural conversation she captures and weaves into every chapter. It's so realistic, it easily plays along in your head like a scene from a TV show.

Another great addition to the Holiday Series! It's going to be hard waiting for the final two!]]>

The Fireworks (Holiday, #3) 60914814
Aria Bancroft had been in love exactly one time. It didn’t go well, and ever since, she’s been floundering. Choosing sex over relationships and working as a freelance editor more to have something to do than anything else, worked for a time. But as her friends begin to couple off with their new girlfriends, Aria begins to wonder if she can ever feel that kind of love again.

London Carlson met a girl in high school and fell in love. After moving away, she tried to find that kind of connection with other women, but it was never the same. London focused on her friendships instead, and with two of those friends, she decided to open a bakery that happened to be in the same city where that long-lost love lived now.

It was July 4th, and Aria had just gotten back from Europe. She didn’t want to go to the annual fireworks display downtown, but her friends wouldn’t let her off the hook. Seeing the woman she’d only known as a teenager, shook Aria to her core, and she couldn’t believe the girl she’d once thought to be the love of her young life was standing right in front of her. Now that they’re both adults, can they put their past behind them and search for what could still be possible?

I have to say, not what I expected with Aria! It was so great to finally learn more about her character and backstory. What starts with a bang, definitely simmers into a slow burn / second chance trope! London was fun to meet, as are her friends and bakery.

The story intertwining with flashbacks made for an enjoyable journey, and a nice difference from Pyland's past books. Learning throughout how much you really can be changed through events from your past, and how they can surface both consciously and subconsciously without you even realising, made for a great read beyond the usual emotions of love and lust. History really does make this so much more complicated!

If you've loved the holiday series so far, you won't be disappointed adding this one to the list too!]]>

Chance Curtis was used to always being pulled into her best friend’s orbit. She was an ally to the community, believing that love was love and that she’d find her person one day, but she never had anyone in her life like that, so it didn’t matter anyway.

Jo Hemsworth never fit in. When Jo’s single mother decided to move to a small town toward the end of Jo’s junior year, Jo planned not to talk to anyone and just hoped to go to college one day. Never feeling like fitting in, and only in part because of being gay, Jo had no idea Chance was helping to plan a festival and would change Jo’s life.

Jaden Hugo had been the girl with two gay dads ever since they adopted her, and she’d been questioning things about herself for a while. When her dads volunteer themselves and her to work at a Pride festival in another town, Jaden is completely taken aback because there was Ruby Simon, the girl who had made it all happen.

On the cusp of their high school graduation, Ruby and Chance were about to leave this place they’d called home and wanted to leave it better than they found it. In planning this first Pride event for their community, their lives also end up changing for the better.

This collection of "meet cutes" all have something in common with the Meet Cute Cafe. It's great to watch each relationship grow, develop and overlap throughout the book.

It's surprising the amount of characterisation and depth Pyland brings to the characters over just a few chapters each.

Thoroughly enjoyed the read, and would highly recommend.]]>
