I know you hate me.
I’ve ruined the family, you say?
I’ve led Ethan astray?
You say that it’s all my fault.
Haven’t you learned by now that the weak are eaten by the strong?
Only the most ruthless, the most vicious, can stand at the top.
Whatever comes…just know, they deserved it.
I told you to bow, didn’t I?
It is my time now.
With love,
Mrs. Callahan

Melody
Hate You? Little girl, you are not worthy of my hate.
Ruined my family? Don’t make me laugh.
Hundreds have tried before you and failed.
Hundreds will try after you and fail again,
Because no matter what, we are strong.
You preach about being ruthless or vicious
I am those words personified.
The only bowing will be from you to me.
Prepare yourself, Mrs. Callahan.

The real Mrs. Callahan is coming.]]>

So, this was a buddy-read with the amazing Antonella, thankfully she supported me through this. And thanks to her I managed to leave this book in 2020 because that's exactly where it belongs to.

After the last book was such a great disappointment to me, I had zero expectations for this book. I just wanted to finish this series. (Since once again it was promised that this would be the last book and thankfully that seems to be the truth for once.)
I'm going to be brief, I don't want to waste much time here. Plus, I wasted all of my patience on the previous books.

So, here are my feelings, opinions and things that came to my mind while reading. (Again, I repeat my personal opinions and feelings which means this review is subjective to me.)

Oh, so we are flipping the script again? What a surprise! Not. Suddenly Calliope is the poor little victim who is so hurt but she's trying to save everyone. You see, she is such a good girl. So smart, selfless but no one gets it how much she gives! Because no one apparently gets anything in these books. Just Calliope and Ethan, only them.
And Ethan is the string master and he knew everything, he pieced everything together. And certainly, no one is being bothered by how Calliope was humiliating him in the past book? What A strong boss.

And suddenly every single character besides those two does not have a single brain cell left to share between all of them. I have to say that whatever I felt about any of the characters in the previous books is gone. They are all bad, stupid and just pathetic. Wyatt, Helen, Nari, Sedric, Darcy, Neil, Evelyn just everyone and yes that includes Mel and Liam.

Let me tell you, by including them this series stopped being about the children. It just meant that there was no story for the children to be strong enough to carry without the parents there. And yes, even Mel and Liam are completely lost to me. Their own series became unreadable to me. Because I'm sorry but Mel was just such a brat that I had a very vivid flashback to Olivia.

And when I'm talking about people not having a single brain cell that includes the villains in this book. Because... what did they do?
The biggest ace in their sleeve, the meanest meanie did what? [spoilers removed]

Which brings me to another thing, what really happened in this book? Not much, a lot of talking. Some people died for the show of it. And nothing.
I was bored out of my mind, it was dragging so much! It was just an eye-roll fest, nothing to be excited about, not even angry! I just kept eyeing the progress bar and hoping that it would move faster.
And again, with so many flashbacks... or should I say rather rewriting what was said in the previous books?

Also, back to the characters. I feel like if you were to take each of the books in the children series and change the names of each character in each book (Meaning, because I know I'm making zero sense, that Ethan would be Ethan in book 1. Marc in book 2. Joseph in book 3 and so on. Calliope in book 4, Martha in book 5, Jessica in book 6 etc.) they would rather like completely different characters. There is no continuity in them.

Okay, these two spoilers are regarding the deaths in this book. The first one is more general, more just my feeling about how deaths were handled in this book. No name is dropped but by reading the spoiler you may get a slight idea about who lives and who does not. The second spoiler is a real spoiler with a name in it, so, beware. [spoilers removed] [spoilers removed]

So, overall, a book I had no expectations for managed to disappoint me by how bad it was. However, I'm glad that I can leave this series in 2020. It's finally done and I do not have to drop it and then wonder what if the author managed to come up with something decent. (She did not if you are wondering.) A couple of years ago this author was one of my favourites which was the reason why I kept giving her chances. But honestly, it's time to let it go.

Oh, and almost forgot the book was again very poorly edited, a lot of typos/missing words. Which is kind of the norm with these books but since it was dragging so much, I tended to notice more.

Anyway, this is more of a rant just after finishing reading this book (just to finish review before midnight, am I the book Cinderella?), so, I might change/add some things later. Sorry, if I make zero sense, it was done in a rush!

Merged review:

Look who's back just in time to make this my last book of 2020. And how fitting is that? (Side note, thank you, everyone, for your kind messages regarding why I was MIA here. I'm well and healthy as one can be at this time. However, GR became somewhat a toxic environment for me in the last couple of months and I just needed a break. I will go more into detail in my review of 2020. But I just wanted to say thank you.)

Are you kidding me! OMG. This is just some sort of fairytale? Don´t get me wrong; I liked this book; in some ways, I almost loved it BUT... Okay, cause there is going to be more BUTs, let´s start with the beginning.
Damon and Ian in the same story? Sorry, that made me think about Ian Somerhalder aka Damon Salvatore. Not a big deal.
Then I really like the part with Blaike (Or Blaire? maybe Blake) the barman at the beginning. He was sort of cool. He´s like the second-best character after Asher.
Then, Natalie was so annoying! I was happy when Cam ignored her!
The part on the bus was one of the best ones. So much fun. Then it was getting slower and a bit boring. Maybe it was because I read so much of this book in one day. But it just felt that the plot got stuck and it was not really going anywhere.
And then after the meeting with Andrew´s mum, it again picked up, and I managed to find my interest in the book. Besides the end, which was sort of too [spoilers removed], only unicorns were missing.

And since the beginning, I felt like the author loves the Sad-Ending. I expected her to rip our hearts away, I was ready to be shattered.
So after reading the last chapter (or was it the prologue?) I was like this:
Really shocking!
Well, it was pretty good but anyway I think it´s a better 2,5/5* Soo... My problem was that I expected really a lot/almost too much from this book. Or maybe something completely different?]]>

I completely missed that this is only a sneak peek! I reached a WTF moment and wanted to know what next and there is nothing! I really, really need the rest of this book.

I wanted to read this book since when I found about this book in September. However, I already voiced my concerns that this book with its title and maybe even cover may confuse some people into believing that it's an instalment in the Three Dark Crowns series by Kendare Blake. It was my first reaction when I saw it before noticing a different author name. And I think it would be a shame if people missed this because of the confusion.

So, what can I say after reading this 66 pages long sneak peek? I'm excited about this book. We get the action right away! Something is happening from page one; we are already in action and, so far it does not feel like an information dump. I'll admit that I have a hard time remembering which Queen is a Queen over which quadrant and what they do there. But we are only five chapters in, so, nothing terrible.

I like how the Queens are different, but thankfully it does not seem like they will try to kill each other. And I'm really excited about Queen Stessa; she seems like a headstrong young lady.

I'm looking forward to seeing where Keralie's story is going. However, I can already say that I will be obsessed with Mackiel. He already seems like my kind of character.
Though I have to wonder about the whole "thief" part of the story, it seems to be getting a tad bit overused.

The only thing that's getting a bit on my nerves is the whole "Four quadrants of the Quadara." A bit more originality hear it would go a long way, at least for me.

Anyway, all I want to say that I feel more confident about this book than I did before reading this sneak peek. And now, can I get the whole book, pretty please? ]]>

Origin (Robert Langdon, #5) 32307358 This an alternate cover for B01LY7FD0D

Robert Langdon, Harvard professor of symbology and religious iconology, arrives at the ultramodern Guggenheim Museum Bilbao to attend a major announcement--the unveiling of a discovery that "will change the face of science forever." The evening's host is Edmond Kirsch, a forty-year-old billionaire and futurist whose dazzling high-tech inventions and audacious predictions have made him a renowned global figure. Kirsch, who was one of Langdon's first students at Harvard two decades earlier, is about to reveal an astonishing breakthrough . . . one that will answer two of the fundamental questions of human existence.

As the event begins, Langdon and several hundred guests find themselves captivated by an utterly original presentation, which Langdon realizes will be far more controversial than he ever imagined. But the meticulously orchestrated evening suddenly erupts into chaos, and Kirsch's precious discovery teeters on the brink of being lost forever. Reeling and facing an imminent threat, Langdon is forced into a desperate bid to escape Bilbao. With him is Ambra Vidal, the elegant museum director who worked with Kirsch to stage the provocative event. Together they flee to Barcelona on a perilous quest to locate a cryptic password that will unlock Kirsch's secret.

Navigating the dark corridors of hidden history and extreme religion, Langdon and Vidal must evade a tormented enemy whose all-knowing power seems to emanate from Spain's Royal Palace itself . . . and who will stop at nothing to silence Edmond Kirsch. On a trail marked by modern art and enigmatic symbols, Langdon and Vidal uncover clues that ultimately bring them face-to-face with Kirsch's shocking discovery . . . and the breathtaking truth that has long eluded us. Even as he waits for the uror—the once-in-a-generation ritual to decide which of the king’s children will succeed him—he knows it’s always been his brother who will assume the throne. And that’s fine by him. He’d rather spend his days away from the palace, away from the sight of his father, broken with sickness from the attempt on his life. But the peacekeeping tour Corwin is on has given him too much time to reflect upon the night he saved his father’s life—the night he condemned the would-be killer to death and lost the girl he loved. Which is why he takes it on himself to investigate rumors of unrest in one of the remote city-states, only for his caravan to be attacked—and for him to be saved by Kate.

With their paths once more entangled, Kate and Corwin have to put the past behind them. One of the all-time favourites! I read it a long time ago when I was staying with my grandparents, and there was a huge collection of A.C.Doyle's stories, and I loved this one.
After leaving, I still remembered this one (the story but not the title), and tried to find it somewhere but I could not find it. And when I went back, I could not even find the book. (My Grandma was not even sure what book I was talking about, a bit creepy).

The Huntress 40390766
Bold and fearless, Nina Markova always dreamed of flying. When the Nazis attack the Soviet Union, she risks everything to join the legendary Night Witches, an all-female night bomber regiment wreaking havoc on the invading Germans. When she is stranded behind enemy lines, Nina becomes the prey of a lethal Nazi murderess known as the Huntress, and only Nina’s bravery and cunning will keep her alive.

Transformed by the horrors he witnessed from Omaha Beach to the Nuremberg Trials, British war correspondent Ian Graham has become a Nazi hunter. Yet one target eludes him: a vicious predator known as the Huntress. To find her, the fierce, disciplined investigator joins forces with the only witness to escape the Huntress alive: the brazen, cocksure Nina. But a shared secret could derail their mission unless Ian and Nina force themselves to confront it.

Growing up in post-war Boston, seventeen-year-old Jordan McBride is determined to become a photographer. When her long-widowed father unexpectedly comes homes with a new fiancée, Jordan is thrilled. But there is something disconcerting about the soft-spoken German widow. Certain that danger is lurking, Jordan begins to delve into her new stepmother’s past—only to discover that there are mysteries buried deep in her family . . . secrets that may threaten all Jordan holds dear.

In this immersive, heart-wrenching story, Kate Quinn illuminates the consequences of war on individual lives, and the price we pay to seek justice and truth.]]>

Limbo Series Boxed Set 32721785 Book 1 - Silent Whisper
What was I thinking that cold, snowy night as I traveled over the steep mountain pass in Chester, WV? I certainly wasn't prepared for what was about to happen. For twenty-seven years I've flitted through life without a care or worry. All that was about to change. But this isn't my story. It's hers. I'm simply the one that needs to tell it, you see, because of my gift.

My name is Parrish Locke.
I'm a daughter.
I'm a model.
I'm a lover.
But I'm so much more than that.
I'm gifted in a way that I never knew...until that dark winter night when I met...her.
Do you enjoy suspense, mystery, steamy romance, and taking a lusty bite of forbidden fruit? Then, by all means, come take this journey with me. Be warned: Expect the Unexpected...

Book 2 - Clouds in my Coffee

This second installment in the 'Limbo Series' finds 27 year-old Parrish going to Evanston, Wyoming. She must unravel the circumstances surrounding the 1974 death of a popular teenage cheerleader named Cecily (Cece) Adams.

All is not what it appears to be, or what the records show. Parrish takes a trip back to the tumultuous 1970's to re-live the events leading up to Cece's untimely death.

During Parrish's episode she reaches out to her newly acquainted father, Nick, for support and guidance. Nick contacts an old acquaintance of his who was previously with the FBI and calls in a favor.

That favor brings sinfully sexy Marco Trevani Jr., an FBI agent into the picture and into Parrish's life.

One relationship fizzles, and another one sizzles!]]>

Hned mě to chytlo.

There are no practice runs, no training, and no way out. Every moment of the game is kill or be killed, and Miki has only the questionable guidance of Jackson Tate, the team's alluring and secretive leader. He evades her questions, holds himself aloof from the others, and claims it's every player for himself. But when he puts himself at risk to watch Miki's back, he leaves her both frustrated and fascinated. Jackson says the game isn't really a game, that what Miki and her new teammates do now determines their survival. And the survival of every other person on the planet. She laughs. He doesn't. Instead, a nightmare took over.

It didn’t happen all at once, but her life unraveled quickly—a tiny thread that evil somehow kept pulling until everything precious was taken from her. She was suddenly living miles away from her old life, trapped in an existence she didn’t choose—one determined to destroy her from the inside, leaving only hate and anger behind. It didn’t help that her neighbor, the one whose eyes held danger, was enjoying every second of her fall.

Owen Harper was trouble, his heart wild and his past the kind that’s spoken about in whispers. And somehow, his path was always intertwined with Kensington’s, every interaction crushing her, ruining her hope for any future better than her now. Sometimes, though, what everyone warns is trouble, is exactly what the heart needs. Owen Harper was consumed with darkness, and it held onto his soul for years. When Kensington looked at him, she saw a boy who’d gotten good at taking others down when they threatened his carefully balanced life. But the more she looked, the more she saw other things too—good things…things to admire.

Things…to love. Things that made her want to be reckless.

And those things…they were the scariest of all.]]>

<![CDATA[The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle]]> 35967101 A brilliantly original high concept murder mystery from a fantastic new talent: Gosford Park meets Inception, by way of Agatha Christie and Black Mirror.

'Somebody's going to be murdered at the ball tonight. It won't appear to be a murder and so the murderer won't be caught. Rectify that injustice and I'll show you the way out.'

It is meant to be a celebration but it ends in tragedy. As fireworks explode overhead, Evelyn Hardcastle, the young and beautiful daughter of the house, is killed.

But Evelyn will not die just once. Until Aiden one of the guests summoned to Blackheath for the party can solve her murder, the day will repeat itself, over and over again. Every time ending with the fateful pistol shot.

The only way to break this cycle is to identify the killer. But each time the day begins again, Aiden wakes in the body of a different guest. And someone is determined to prevent him ever escaping Blackheath...

Vamp 48915236
With his dark eyes and quick reflexes, Maxim Forsythe didn’t just save me, he left me breathless. This monster of a man had me feeling all the human things I’ve read about in books and seen in movies, but knew deep down in my soul were not meant for me.

Still, that doesn’t stop the human half of me from making some very dangerous decisions. You see, promises were made long ago to keep me safe. To keep my family safe. Breaking those promises means everything that matters in my life will be destroyed. But if I keep them, my humanity will be lost forever.

And so will Maxim.

Author’s note: This is vampire love, Dani style complete with double V-cards! Fast, hot and not without risk. These star-crossed V-card holders (yes, both of them) have epic hurdles to overcome if they are to find their happily ever after. But, never fear, this alpha mortal knows no limits when it comes to taking, and keeping, what belongs to him. Always safe, no cheating ever, over the top love—with a happily ever after that lasts into eternity.

I could not wait for this book to drop. And the moment it was there I was actually afraid to start it!

SPOILERS for the previous books included. Spoilers for this book will be hidden under the spoiler tag.

EDIT: I have no real idea what just happened. I liked the book while reading but now? I’m very angry about it. (I had to change my rating to 3 but it feels a bit too generous if you ask me but since I rated COV 2 , I cannot go lower with this one.)
I hated it when I first read the COV, and I was very happy that she died. And I was excited for Calliope and Gigi. And while I like Calliope way more than Ivy, my excitement is mostly gone.

The majority of this book is one huge flashback, rewriting things that mainly happened in the first and third book of this series. What we thought had happened, did not. We were lied to, even in chapters from Ethan’s POV. And here my problems start. And while my evil side liked what was happening, my reader part was a bit annoyed because it seems like the author tried to rewrite what she wrote in the previous books. (And I saw several people calling the first book pointless right now. And honestly? I understand where you are coming from.)

When I started reading this, I was very excited to see what will happen, but now I feel like the author picked up the worst possible solution.
[spoilers removed] <-- This is the whole book in a nutshell.

Looking back, it seems as if the author took the first book and went on rewriting it and tried to give a new perspective to everything. But it does not work since we got Ethan’s POV in the first book. If it were only Ivy’s POV, I would be okay with this. But the whole “Ethan was lying to the readers does not work for me.
I hated Ivy, but I always felt like the author meant for her to by the endgame for Ethan. And I have no idea if she succumbed to the hate against Ivy or if she got the idea for Calliope and decided to go with it.
The Children of Vice were announced as a trilogy, it was written as a trilogy and no matter what no one will ever persuade me that this was pre-planned.

In my first review, I called this book slightly as Deus Ex Machina but honestly? It’s more like Calliope Ex Machina, she just somehow did everything. She pointed her phone at something, and she hacked into it. (I know that there is someone on the other side doing the hacking for her. But little explanation? Not leaving everything to the last part would be nice.)
Also, she reminded me a bit of Tinker Bell, but instead of a magical powder, she was sprinkling poison everywhere.

I don’t know I liked it while reading, but now I’m very annoyed by this book. The main problem for me with this book is that it feels a bit like fan fiction or as if the author wanted to change her work, but it’s hard to rewrite something that was already published.

I would just say, read her Ruthless series which is wonderful. Children of Vice were over-all just mediocre, and if she’s trying to save it, then she’s failing.

Also, it was mentioned in my now scratched review, but I have to mention it again, the editing of this series is getting worse or what?! Errors and typos were always in all series by this author (along with continuity errors like the age of the characters, what someone was wearing in the same scene etc.) but this book? I even had to re-read sentences to make sure if I understood them correctly. And, this is not on the author since her work is edited, the editor dropped the bomb and the author should ask for money back.

And the first chapter already came with a huge twist! Which I loved! Which I hoped for! "YES! I KNEW IT!"

And I already loved where the book was going.

However, the "past" part was a bit too long and dragged out, and I sort of wished it would end finally. Vicious Minds were supposed to be one book, but because of the length, the author split it in two. And I have to wonder. Did the book suffer because of it? (I'm not even thinking about the terrible wait we have in front of us!) What I mean is that if the book was whole, I believe that a chunk of the "past" part would be cut out of the story and maybe that would help with the fluency of the story.

When I started reading the Children of Vice series, I hated the first one. I rated it 2* mainly because Ivy was just a waste of space and Ethan was not living up to my expectations. And since Ivy is now gone and we are getting a new perspective on the events from the first book, I'm happier, and it makes more sense. However, at the same time, I have to say that it is obvious that the author did not plan on this book from the beginning because it's an absolute turn from the beginning and now the actions are interpreted differently but not always it works. But seeing how much I hated Ivy, I don't care. She's gone, that's all I needed. (view spoiler)

Calliope is a fantastic character! Well, it's not hard to be better than Ivy, but still, she is wonderful. (view spoiler)

I wish there was a bit more on the present story, but I guess we will get that in the next book.

I'm sad that there was not a bit more of Gigi.

However, this book was full of twists, and I have no idea what's going to happen next! (view spoiler)

Sometimes Calliope seemed a bit like Deus ex machina. So, I hope this will be explained as well in the next book.

I cannot not mention the several typos I found in the book.

All in all, this is somewhere between three and four ⭐but since Ivy is gone, I'll go with four.

description

In April 1942, Lale Sokolov, a Slovakian Jew, is forcibly transported to the concentration camps at Auschwitz-Birkenau. When his captors discover that he speaks several languages, he is put to work as a Tätowierer (the German word for tattooist), tasked with permanently marking his fellow prisoners.

Imprisoned for over two and a half years, Lale witnesses horrific atrocities and barbarism—but also incredible acts of bravery and compassion. Risking his own life, he uses his privileged position to exchange jewels and money from murdered Jews for food to keep his fellow prisoners alive.

One day in July 1942, Lale, prisoner 32407, comforts a trembling young woman waiting in line to have the number 34902 tattooed onto her arm. Her name is Gita, and in that first encounter, Lale vows to somehow survive the camp and marry her.

A vivid, harrowing, and ultimately hopeful re-creation of Lale Sokolov's experiences as the man who tattooed the arms of thousands of prisoners with what would become one of the most potent symbols of the Holocaust, The Tattooist of Auschwitz is also a testament to the endurance of love and humanity under the darkest possible conditions.]]>
