In comes Sam Hastern.

His family has been cursed by one of these classes for the last fifty years. No one has ever managed to level it, condemning them to the lowest paying jobs and life in a barren village.

The class is called Battlefield Reclaimer.

There's one more little problem.

Sam's about to have it even worse, when a dungeon exploration leaves him looking distinctly non-human.

Unfortunately, fate is quick to pull on the leash of its favorite children. When one particularly troubling contract goes sideways, Declan and Ryn find themselves thrust into a war thought legend and long-ended, a conflict so old it is synonymous with a time in which dragons still ruled the western skies. Now, as dead men rise from their graves and the terrible beasts of the northern ranges descend into the kingdom with an appetite for savagery and flesh, Declan is faced with a profane choice. He can turn, can flee an ancient rising horror that would see the realms of man left as shattered death and wind-blown ash.

Or, Declan can face this mounting threat, can come to terms with the fact that his oldest friend might just be more than he appears, and learn to wield an ageless power all his own.

-----

In the Ember Kingdom, a dying land riven by famine and disease, Daleth the evil Witch-King plots his conquest of the neighbouring Freestates. Gifted with eternal youth, his vampiric power is responsible for the decay that afflicts his realm, and now other kingdoms must fall to quench his never-ending thirst for life.

However, on the cusp of the invasion, Maya, a peasant huntress, is arrested, Daleth’s soldiers kill an old farmer’s wife, and a young outcast is reluctantly enlisted into the Witch-King’s army. Three seemingly innocuous events that nonetheless have the potential to alter the destiny of generations to come.

For Maya is gifted with the ability to heal and can influence the hearts and minds of men if she but finds the strength to do so. The young recruit carries a gift of reading thoughts and has no love for the king he serves. As for the vengeful farmer he’s an ancient warrior gifted in reaping souls who now seeks to fulfil a long-forgotten oath against unbeatable odds.

The world will soon be soaked by the blood of war, but with these three individuals lives inescapably entwined, the faint light of hope begins to shine. Alliances will have to be forged, enemies convinced to become friends, and a flicker of love given a chance to become a flame for there to be a chance to fight the encroaching darkness of the Witch-King's evil.

-----

The Gifted and the Cursed. A dark fantasy trilogy set in a dystopian land, with heroes that are at times more demonic than the evil they face. The bloody battles, quests for revenge and fights for survival are artfully balanced with a light romance, tales of redemption, and the breath-taking beauty of Maya’s gift]]>

Stebbins Little School is full of bodies. It's unthinkable to Desdemona Fox. Children are sobbing as panicked teachers and neighbors beat down their family members outside of the school - or the things that used to be their family members. Parents don't eat their children do they?

Officers Fox and Hammond, along with journalist Billy Trout, are calling it the beginning of the end. This is the zombie apocalypse. An insane escaped serial killer is infecting Stebbins County with a deadly virus, and now the whole world is watching while Fox, Trout, and the remaining inhabitants of Stebbins fight for their lives against - what? The undead? The President and the National Guard are ready to nuke Stebbins, PA off the map and cut their losses. But the infection is spreading and fast. Worse, the scientist who created the virus is missing. It's a numbers game as the body count rises; Fox has to contain the infected and evacuate the living before it's too late, and the clock is ticking.

Fall of Night, Maberry's nail-biting sequel to 'Dead of Night', picks up where the first novel left off - on a wild goose chase for a madman and the missing scientist who gave him new "un"-life. Chilling, gory, and hair-raisingly scary, Maberry fans won't be able to read this fast-paced thriller with the lights off.

The answer lies in the Heart of the Mountain

Ashok Vadal was chosen by a powerful weapon to be its bearer. As a Protector, an elite roving law-enforcer, his path to leader of the Sons of the Black Sword has been anything but straight.

Thera Vane, a child of privilege, has become the reluctant prophet of an illegal and forgotten god—whose prophecies are proving all too correct, if frustratingly unclear about the war between demon and man.

Ashok’s erstwhile sword brother, Lord Protector Devedas, was meant to be a puppet king, but he and his wife, a court scholar, have other plans. And possibly even access to the lore that will let them triumph.

Grand Inquisitor Omand Vokkan is a man of ambition. He’s set in motion all that was necessary to destroy the current order and install Lord Protector Devedas as a tyrant. But Vokkan has a vision beyond control of the continent. He would challenge even the gods. . . .

It seems the time of prophecy and the Age of Law is over: it is time the prophecies will be fulfilled.]]>

<![CDATA[Destroyer of Worlds (Saga of the Forgotten Warrior, #3)]]> 50891745 If it's war you want...find here the best of military epic fantasy as the best-selling Saga of the Forgotten Warrior series continues.

The Great Extermination has begun.

In the Capitol, Grand Inquisitor Omand Vokkan hatches a plot to kill every member of the untouchable caste in all of Lok, down to the last man, woman, and child. As a member of the Order of Inquisition, Vokkan has no official say in the creation of Law, but he has powerful allies willing to do his bidding. Through them, he has convinced the Judges that the genocide will be swift, complete, and without complication. Nothing is farther from the truth.

Lord Protector Devedas has sworn to uphold the Law. Once, he and the traitor Ashok Vadal had been like brothers. Now, he hunts Vadal and the Sons of the Black Sword, heretics and rebels who seek to live outside the rule of the Law. All Devedas must do is find and kill his best friend and order will be restored to Lok.

The rebels seek the secret kingdom spoken of by the Prophet Thera, a paradise where water is pure and food plentiful, where there are no castes, where the people rule themselves and are not slaves to the Capitol. Ashok Vadal is not sure he believes in such a Paradise, but he - along with his allies - does seek refuge in the rebellion's hideout in Akershan. But Vadal, a former High Protector who has turned his back on the corrupt Law, will not merely wait meekly, hoping that fleeing to Akershan will spare the rebellion from the clutches of the Great Extermination. No, if it's a war the Capitol wants, Vadal, who has faced down gods and demons, will be all too willing to give it to them. ]]>

<![CDATA[House of Assassins (Saga of the Forgotten Warrior, #2)]]> 40538895 LARRY CORREIA'S BEST-SELLING EPIC FANTASY SERIES, SAGA OF THE FORGOTTEN WARRIOR, CONTINUES.

Ashok Vidal was once a member of the highest caste in all of Lok. As a Protector, he devoted his life to upholding the Law, rooting out those who still practiced the old ways and delivering swift justice with his ancestor blade Angruvadal. None was more merciless than he in stamping out the lingering belief in gods and demons among the casteless. His brutality was legendary and celebrated.

But soon Ashok learned that his life to that point had been a lie. He himself, senior member of the Protector Order, was casteless. He had been nothing more than an unwitting pawn in a political game. His world turned upside down and finding himself on the wrong side of the Law, he began a campaign of rebellion, war, and destruction unlike any Lok had ever seen.

Thera had been first daughter of Vane. A member of the Warrior Order, she had spent her life training for combat. Until a strange sight in the heavens appeared one day. Thera was struck by lighting and from that day forward she heard the Voice. A reluctant prophet with the power to see into the future, she fought alongside Ashok Vadal and his company of men known as the Sons of the Black Sword until a shapeshifting wizard with designs on her powers of precognition spirited her away. He holds her prisoner in the House of Assassins.

Ashok Vadal and the Sons of the Black Sword march to rescue Thera. With his sword Angruvadal, Ashok was unstoppable. But Angruvadal is gone, shattered to pieces on the demon possessed husk of a warrior. Now, Ashok must fight without the aid of the magic blade for the first time. Thera’s life depends on it.

But there is much more at risk in the continent of Lok. Strange forces are working behind the scenes. Ashok Vadal and the Sons of the Black Sword are caught up in a game they do not fully understand, with powerful forces allied against them.

Ashok no longer knows what to believe. He is beginning to think perhaps the gods really do exist.

If so, he’s warned them to stay out of his way.

Wow, this was such an unexpected gem!

I had very low expectations. Yes, the blurb sounded interesting, but not wow. And maybe the first pages weren't the best either... So imagine my surprise when I read on and on and on and I could barely stop.

I love morally gray characters and you have a lot of those here. I fell in love with each and every one of them. I laughed and cried and wanted to throw the book out the window because at times it was so hard to accept what was happening!

So well done author, you did an amazing job, I'll look for more stuff from you! And if anyone read this review until this point, give this book a try, it'll definitely be worth your time.

The Atlas Six (The Atlas, #1) 50520939
Enter the latest round of six: Libby Rhodes and Nico de Varona, unwilling halves of an unfathomable whole, who exert uncanny control over every element of physicality. Reina Mori, a naturalist, who can intuit the language of life itself. Parisa Kamali, a telepath who can traverse the depths of the subconscious, navigating worlds inside the human mind. Callum Nova, an empath easily mistaken for a manipulative illusionist, who can influence the intimate workings of a person’s inner self. Finally, there is Tristan Caine, who can see through illusions to a new structure of reality—an ability so rare that neither he nor his peers can fully grasp its implications.

When the candidates are recruited by the mysterious Atlas Blakely, they are told they will have one year to qualify for initiation, during which time they will be permitted preliminary access to the Society’s archives and judged based on their contributions to various subjects of impossibility: time and space, luck and thought, life and death. Five, they are told, will be initiated. One will be eliminated. The six potential initiates will fight to survive the next year of their lives, and if they can prove themselves to be the best among their rivals, most of them will.

<![CDATA[Dungeon Crawler Carl (Dungeon Crawler Carl, #1)]]> 56791389 Alternate cover edition of ASIN B08BKGYQXW

The apocalypse will be televised!

A man. His ex-girlfriend's cat. A sadistic game show unlike anything in the universe: a dungeon crawl where survival depends on killing your prey in the most entertaining way possible.

In a flash, every human-erected construction on Earth—from Buckingham Palace to the tiniest of sheds—collapses in a heap, sinking into the ground.

The buildings and all the people inside have all been atomized and transformed into the dungeon: an 18-level labyrinth filled with traps, monsters, and loot. A dungeon so enormous, it circles the entire globe.

Only a few dare venture inside. But once you're in, you can't get out. And what's worse, each level has a time limit. You have but days to find a staircase to the next level down, or it's game over. In this game, it's not about your strength or your dexterity. It's about your followers, your views. Your clout. It's about building an audience and killing those goblins with style.

You can't just survive here. You gotta survive big.

You gotta fight with vigor, with excitement. You gotta make them stand up and cheer. And if you do have that "it" factor, you may just find yourself with a following. That's the only way to truly survive in this game—with the help of the loot boxes dropped upon you by the generous benefactors watching from across the galaxy.

They call it Dungeon Crawler World. But for Carl, it's anything but a game.]]>

Long ago the world fell into twilight, when the great empires of old consumed each other in sorcerous cataclysms. In the south the Star Towers fell, swallowed by the sea, while the black glaciers descended upon the northern holdfasts, entombing the cities of Min-Ceruth in ice and sorcery. Then from the ancient empire of Menekar the paladins of Ama came, putting every surviving sorcerer to the sword and cleansing their taint from the land for the radiant glory of their lord.

The pulse of magic slowed, fading like the heartbeat of a dying man.

But after a thousand years it has begun to quicken again.

In a small fishing village a boy with strange powers comes of age...

A young queen rises in the west, fanning the long-smoldering embers of magic into a blaze once more...

Something of great importance is stolen - or freed - from the mysterious Empire of Swords and Flowers...

And the immortals who survived the ancient cataclysms bestir themselves, casting about for why the world is suddenly changing...]]>

<![CDATA[Old Man's War (Old Man's War, #1)]]> 36510196
The good news is that humanity finally made it into interstellar space. The bad news is that planets fit to live on are scarce-- and alien races willing to fight us for them are common. So: we fight. To defend Earth, and to stake our own claim to planetary real estate. Far from Earth, the war has been going on for decades: brutal, bloody, unyielding.

Earth itself is a backwater. The bulk of humanity's resources are in the hands of the Colonial Defense Force. Everybody knows that when you reach retirement age, you can join the CDF. They don't want young people; they want people who carry the knowledge and skills of decades of living. You'll be taken off Earth and never allowed to return. You'll serve two years at the front. And if you survive, you'll be given a generous homestead stake of your own, on one of our hard-won colony planets.

John Perry is taking that deal. He has only the vaguest idea what to expect. Because the actual fight, light-years from home, is far, far harder than he can imagine--and what he will become is far stranger.]]>

A botched meeting with the Elven ruler's soldiers leads to thousands of people, Rob included, fleeing to the northern wastelands. So, while the read was, in fact annoying, it did make me curious and it did make me want to try out the next book. How could I give this book less than 2.5 stars if it made me continue with the series?! Simple: I can't. So here's the rating you (kinda) deserve.

About the book, though.
Likes: the plot has potential and the writing is awesome.
Dislikes: very, very annoying characters! They're not exactly idiots, but they're not too far from it either.

Was it worth reading? I'm not sure yet, but seeing as I'm gonna read book 2, then I guess so.]]>

2.5 So hard to rate.

Ok, truth?
I didn't really like it. The main character is very annoying, she's acting like an annoying little kid. Yes, she has a reason, she's been sheltered all her life, but she's still annoying as hell

Rangers aren’t born, they’re forged

Never has this been more true for Asher, who must train a new ranger or be the one to hunt him down. Surviving an encounter with a Werewolf has changed Russell Maybury’s life forever. If he is to salvage anything, he must craft a new life using his abilities to do good. Should he stray, he will answer to Asher.

Learning to fight monsters is all the more difficult when the monsters are the ones hunting you. In his possession, Russell holds an artefact of great significance, a relic central to a shadow war waged for centuries untold. On the one side, the Werewolves bring their claws. On the other, the Vorska, blood fiends who know only the night, bring their fangs.

In over his head, Asher must navigate a war of monsters and the machinations of ancient mages if he is to survive. And should he survive, there is still the Assassin that dwells within, a monster of his own making, that fights for supremacy.

One way or another, the ranger is going to bleed

Monsters breed legends and legends breed monsters. This is the way of things. This is the way of the Ranger.

Turned from the path of the assassin, Asher roams the world no better than a nomad, with naught to offer but his sword and grit. But woe betide the monster that believes his sword and grit will not be enough

In a twisted chance of fate, the brash actions of Doran Heavybelly a dwarven hunter with a lot to say forces Asher back into the world of man. And so the ranger is brought into the light, into the gaze of Illian’s greatest crime guilds and onto the lawless island of Dragorn.

A deal must be made, and with a creature far worse than any of the fiends Asher has put to his sword. To save those who cannot save themselves, the ranger must choose between his life and theirs. Should he make such a deal, 'tis not his life that would be forfeit but the man he has worked so hard to become.

In the end, it will all come down to blood and coin

In those halls of darkness, where children are taken from the world and given to shadow and dust, Asher is destined for that same fate. He will become the myth. He will become the legend. He will become the whisper of Death itself.

That which he was is dead, forgotten. Now he is a blade in the dark, a weapon to be wielded by his masters. A killer.

Yet, despite all his training and years of spilling blood, there is a crack in Asher’s conditioning. Something within him is broken, unbound even. A sliver of humanity has survived and dreams of freedom. Now, standing on a knife’s edge, his mind threatens to unravel, taking him from the only path he has ever known and away from the clutches of Nightfall.

It has never been done. Exile is not a choice. It is a death sentence.

But there is another life that calls to him, a life roaming the wilds and protecting the innocent from the monsters which would prey upon them. Hunting monsters, however, is no easy task, especially when Asher himself is hunted by those who would drag him back to Nightfall. Back to the darkness.]]>

Like always, a very fun Lindsay Buroker series. She doesn't disappoint.

Is this her best series? No.
Is it worth reading? Definitely.

Like usual, the story is fast-paced and with an interesting plot. It does drag a bit at book 5 or so, but eh, it happens. It was still a good read.

If you've never read this author before, you'll adore her sarcasm and interesting characters. True, this time, sometimes you couldn't really distinguish one character's voice from another, but it only becomes obvious after 4, 5 books. The 'bad guys' sound different though, so that's good.

A series worth reading when you're looking for a fun, straight-forward fantasy with great, sarcastic characters and absolutely amazing friend-characters. The kind of series that's hard to put down and that gets your attention from the start.

Definitely recommend, although if it's your first time with this author, there are some other series that she writes better. ]]>

The Endless Plains were one site of that ancient battle. Utterly devastated, they have now recovered, and are once again at peace. But as the seasons turned and the years passed by, rumors grew. Rumors of the destruction of villages and the slaughtering of innocents. And those rumors are proving true.

Along the banks of the Serensea, Tommy grew into manhood knowing none of this. Living his life fishing the sea with his father, his home was far away from any happenings in the world. But when he is forced to escape the destruction of his village he finds that not all is as it seems.

And what happens to him and his family will change them all, and reshape the lives of those around them.

Forever.

I loved this book, it's a really great start of a series.

Never read this author before, I wasn't expecting too much, so I got the best surprise when I found something I adored. Amazing work, Colin Darney, you're on my 'to read author' list from now on.

There's great worldbuilding at play here and the characters are exactly the type I could fall in love with. Fast-paced story and interesting plot, exactly what I'm looking for in a HF.

Definitely worth giving this series a try! ]]>

<![CDATA[The Enhanced (The Enhanced #1)]]> 33632910 We created them. And now they rule us...

The world has changed. Wars and terrible weapons have decimated the global population. Originally designed for war, genetically modified super-beings have risen to the top, living in relative safety in the city of Haven.

Divided into two parts, the city is home to the genetically superior Enhanced, and the inferior Unenhanced: normal humans now subjugated and controlled. It’s a brutal world of divides. An unyielding system of class. The strong rise and the weak fall. That is the new world.

Brie Melrose is just a normal girl of 18. She grew up an orphan, and her life was never deemed likely to amount to anything.

One day, however, a routine job turns into something much more, and Brie finds herself under the watchful eye of the Savants, the highest order of the Enhanced. Blessed with supreme intellect, they consider emotions to be pointless.

And, in some cases, dangerous

For Brie, coming face to face with a Savant is a rare thing indeed. And soon, something even rarer is about to occur: she is to be invited into Inner Haven, the sanctuary of the Enhanced where she’ll come into contact with some strange and dangerous people.

People who want things from her. People who know things about her past.

Soon, threats she never even knew existed will close in, and Brie will learn that her world, and the city of Haven, isn’t quite what she thought it was.

And neither is she

The Enhanced is the first in a planned series. It ends in a fairly significant cliffhanger, so be warned! However, new instalments will be released every few weeks, so you’ll never have to wait long to find out what happens next!

Fans of the Hunger Games, Divergent, and the Maze Runner will love this new dystopian world, a place of brutality, danger, and secrets where the strong rule the weak and there’s conflict around every turn. A mixture of YA dystopian, sci fi thriller, mystery, and romance, every page will leave you wanting more!

Note: The book is written in British English.

The past is a complex web of branching events that need regular interventions to safeguard the best future for humanity. This is the mission of the Oblivion Order; a secret organisation freed from the limits of linear time. Their task is to maintain the Continuum of time by making small adjustments to the past.

The Order is made up of specialist time guilds. Copernicans - analysts of potential futures, who are obsessed with probability; Scriptorians - librarians and archivists of lost knowledge; Antiquarians - quartermasters and curators of missing treasures, and Draconian’s who navigate and map the lost parts of history.

But then there are the Watchmen. These lone field officers patrol the paths of the past, using the timelines of objects to navigate their way through history. Powerful agents of change, they are responsible for applying the course corrections. And they live hidden among us today.

When teenage thief and gang member Joshua Jones, breaks into the house of a local eccentric, the Colonel, he finds himself thrown into the strange world of the Oblivion Order.

Josh discovers that he too can travel through time and when he meets the beautiful, sassy orphan Caitlin, he realises he has a chance of a better future for himself and his sick mother. But to do means changing his past and that is strictly forbidden by the Order.

The Anachronist tells the gripping story of Josh’s journey from petty criminal to a search for a better life. His adventures take us from the present, Victorian London and World War 2 to the French Revolution, Ancient Greece and the last Ice Age as he learns more and more about the Oblivion Order and his feelings for Caitlin.

This author has a really engaging writing style. The plots are always fun and the characters are interesting and the world builder is pretty good. Vanessa Nelson is a go-to author if you're looking for a fun, fast-paced, UF-style series.

It's the same case here, with an added bonus: the world. I adored the universe this series is set in and I'm really hoping to see more of it. I really liked the setting, the whole 'there's only one city in this whole world and monsters surround it'. And I was completely shocked in book 3!

Why not 5 stars? Well, I would have needed more complexity to the characters and some more side stories and perspectives, but it's not still a better-than-average series.

Anyway, long story short:
It's an excellent series, fun, fast-paced, with some great surprises. You'll enjoy the characters and the world will make you wanna see more of it.
Definitely worth a try.]]>

It’s a fun magic, except in a world filled with vampires and werewolves, it doesn’t exactly make me a powerhouse. Instead, the supernatural community has classified me as an outcast, which means one thing: Picking on me is open season all day, every day.

The local fae are the worst of all, and it’s during one of their regular “capture the cat-girl sessions that I shift into my cat form and meet HIM for the first time.

Noctus is so powerful his magic radiates off him like a sun, and my fae captors can barely look in his general direction. And then my life gets even more terrifying when Noctus decides to take me with him. As a pet.

Why did he pick today to “adopt don’t shop a cat?

It gets worse when I realize he’s an elf, a ruling race of supernaturals that was supposedly killed off centuries ago.

But he’s not just any elf, no. He’s an elven king, with heaps of secrets to protect. Secrets that I am quickly learning since he includes his new pet in everything from breaking into buildings to inspect classified paperwork to tracking down sketchy supernaturals.

All this means if he gets even a hint that I’m not a real cat, I’m going to find out firsthand how elves treat their prisoners.

So, escaping Noctus is priority #1. How hard can it be? (Answer: very.)

King’s Captive is the first book in the Gate of Myth and Power urban fantasy trilogy, and is part of the Magiford Supernatural City world. It features elves, fae, werewolves, and vampires, and contains an adventure-filled and hilarious take on the Hades and Persephone myth. It’s packed with humor, battles, and a sweet, slow burn romance between an outcast magic user and the deadly king of the elves.]]>

If you've read this author before, you know what to expect. If not, it's a good series to start with, you'll definitely put this name down on the 'to always try' pile.
It's a fun, easy, fast-paced series. It's something perfect to read when you're looking for something light and enjoyable. Just like you'd get a pizza if you don't know what to eat and aren't in the mood to think too much about it.

The characters are well-built and the plot is interesting. There's not much of a world-builder, but it's not something you'd expect from this type of series, it's just too short and fast-paced for that.

All in all, it's worth reading (or at least giving it a try).]]>

592 James S.A. Corey 1841499889 Denisa 5 This is definitely the best series I've read this year, would even say it's the best SF series I've ever read

Everyone is saying amazing things about this series and well,
THEY'RE COMPLETELY RIGHT!

It's amazing, great, fantastic, the best SF I've ever read.

There are so many things I wanna say that I don't even know where to begin. Just read it, or at least try it, and see for yourself.

Some of the things that were absolutely mind-blowing for me:
The complexity of the characters. I feel like I'm reading a psychology treaty sometimes, you have all the archetypes, you see their struggle, their issues with ethics and morality and overall questions that phylosophers have been talking about since humanity was born. And I won't even get into the characters that felt so real it was scary!

The awe-inspiring world-builder. The different languages, cultures, strategies and politics, images this author managed to create. It's absolutely amazing, I loved it.

The heavy, fast-paced action. One of the things that I see at great authors is that they tend to be linear with their actions and world-building. You see where one ends and the other begins and a lot of them still don't know how to build a universe without being boring (and I get bored really fast). Here, I didn't even feel when I started getting to know this world and its people, its history. Everything was amazingly written and I loved that.

The science. I adore a good, well-documented SF.

And many, many more.
Just give this series a try, doesn't even matter if you like SF or HF or Romance. It's THE book to try.]]>

NOW A MAJOR TV SERIES

A revolution brewing for generations has begun in fire. It will end in blood.

The Free Navy - a violent group of Belters in black-market military ships - has crippled the Earth and begun a campaign of piracy and violence among the outer planets. The colony ships heading for the thousand new worlds on the far side of the alien ring gates are easy prey, and no single navy remains strong enough to protect them.

James Holden and his crew know the strengths and weaknesses of this new force better than anyone. Outnumbered and outgunned, the embattled remnants of the old political powers call on the Rocinante for a desperate mission to reach Medina Station at the heart of the gate network.

But the new alliances are as flawed as the old, and the struggle for power has only just begun. As the chaos grows, an alien mystery deepens. Pirate fleets, mutiny and betrayal may be the least of the Rocinante's problems. And in the uncanny spaces past the ring gates, the choices of a few damaged and desperate people may determine the fate of more than just humanity.

If that isn’t bad enough, I’m being tracked by a creep obsessed with killing me because I’m a shadow, and he doesn’t mind doling out collateral damage during the hunt.

So I’ve got a mysterious elf king holding me captive in his hidden home, a slew of new powers to learn with my revealed ancestry, and a psychopath on my tail. Wow, things are looking up.

It’s time to find out if cats really do always land on their paws.

King’s Captive is the first book in the Gate of Myth and Power urban fantasy trilogy, and is part of the Magiford Supernatural City world. It is an adventure-filled and hilarious take on the Hades and Persephone myth, with a twist of mystery. It’s packed with humor, battles, and a sweet, slow burn romance between an outcast magic user and the deadly king of the elves.]]>

<![CDATA[A Usual Suspect (Fractured Conclave #1)]]> 206333762 She can see the truth, but when she's accused of murder, no one believes she's innocent.

Hallie works as a skip tracer - hunting down people wanted by the law, for one reason or another. It's not glamourous, and it doesn't pay all that well. But it's legal work, and that's hard to come by in the cramped quarters of old town.

When a childhood friend calls her in a panic, Hallie goes to help and gets a lot more than she bargained for. One of the elite has been murdered and the special investigators are looking for someone to blame.

The moment Hallie is near a dead body of one of the ruling class, her hard work and clean record count for nothing. She just becomes a usual suspect. Worse, the real killer also wants Hallie dead.

Can she stay ahead of the investigators long enough to find the real killer and bring them to justice?

If you like your fantasy mixed with a bit of mystery, a bit of magic and a heroine who can hold her own, you will love this new series by Vanessa Nelson.]]>
