Still a good audible listen but had the same problem as I had with the second book. A lot of time wasted doing nothing instead of being proactive. Ending was good and wasn't predictable from the first book (for me, anyway and I can almost always smell the rat), just a bit tedious.

What I wasn't sold on, which gave this book 4 stars instead of 5, was the coincidence of human trafficking. It was interesting but too far of a stretch for me. If it had affected just one character, I could buy it, but it affected too many characters and therefor, rang untrue.

Still, this author is a must buy for me and I've never been disappointed in any of her books! A really great read and if you have ever read any non-con, then I think you will be able to get past the gruesomeness of that one scene.

Well, either some people are soft hearted (which is ok) or I'm just a complete degenerate but I didn't think this book was as harsh as the author led me to believe. Of course, the scene in question isn't a trigger for me as it might be for others. I will say that if I recall correctly, that scene did do a fade to black fairly quickly- the act itself wasn't drawn out but the "feels" certainly were.

Some also felt that the world building was poorly done. I disagree. The world building was done excellently. I always had a visual in my head of where they were, what the scenery was like, the vibe of the people around them. What is kept to us from most of the book is why this happened but there is truth in that. I can't imagine anyone but a select few knowing what actually happened should something like that occur on our planet considering no communications or electricity. It was a bit of a stretch- the end result but I was sold on it.

Historical Romance: first in this genre by this author and it was really good. It wasn't so great that I'd give it 5 stars and recommend to anyone despite the price but I was really surprised at the overall product from an author that has never delved into this genre before. And it's not a typical HR. It's more gritty and I don't think there are any sexy times until #3 or #4. However, the story itself is so interesting as well as all the characters. I also enjoyed several historical details in this story that I have never read before. Ex: the segregation of women from the men during their menstrual cycle.

Problems: It's not that noticeable till book #3, but there is a point where the reader may become annoyed at the amount of the overplayed introspections in regards to, "is he serious or not" along with the "i have to protect her therefor I'm not going to tell her anything". Another huge problem I had with the series in a whole was that they seemed to be able to travel to different lands or regions within the space of a couple or few hours. That just doesn't jive with what I know about history at the time. What should take 1-2 days, only ends up taking a few hours and what should take 2-3 days only takes around 10-12 hours when considering the mode of transportation. This didn't end up taking me out of the enjoyment of the story but I kept thinking about it every time it happened.

Potential: This series really could have been epic on the "Highlander" scale if the author wanted to do that; and I believe she is capable. Unfortunately, I think the author was really just in it for the money and just pushed out the whole story in segments that end up costing way too much.

Is this author worth the price? Yes! Can I budget in $21 for basically an extended length novel? Nope! Yeah, this is just too expensive for me and I doubt I'll be spending that in the future but this one got me.

oh my, this might be my favorite one yet...well one of my three favs from this author at least! I'm a huge sucker for alien smut/romance, disaster/survival scenarios and I just love, love, love a well done "language barrier" plot point. I don't mind the easily written "universal translator implant" in these types of stories but I just adore when an author skips that and forces the characters to communicate in a realistic way, even when it means charades, lol. And this author does this so well.
I also adored the characters in this book. They were well written. The plot gave us a bit of something different from the others in this series. Romance and smut were pretty darn great too!

Quick Rundown: Chick steps through a portal into an alternate world of red, horned alien beasties. She starts off on the run then finds an ally only to be tossed back into the mess and hilarity ensues as well as romance and one of the most satisfying HEA's and epilogues I've ever read. Oh, and lots of hot sex though not overdone as so much also happens that it's not just about the sex.

World Building: Really well done. The author created a new world for me and it was complex and lushly described. I can't even remember the characters names but I remember this world. The creatures are completely different, the culture is completely different-- everything was very non-human like which is refreshing in this genre.

Characters: Sooooo good! The Chick was very funny. I could really relate. Every response she had was one I felt I would have had. This chick spoke my language. She was snarky but not in a manufactured way. The three Dudes in this book were all lovable and all different though they were all vulnerable in their own way. The way these three come together felt honest and oh so right. Yes, I wish for my own portal to this world- or at least to these three brothers! If menage isn't your thing, still read this book as it's so much more than that and believable despite being an alien universe. Even the pet "dog" Chub was a fantastic character. And the bitch fiancee was also spot on and a unique addition, especially how the main chick handled her. The language barrier which is always terribly interesting to me was resolved with the typical implant but we had quite a bit of the novel without it and the hilarity when it's implanted is priceless entertainment!

Plot: Simple but this book was so well written and entertaining with such great characters that it didn't need to be more complex. And I got a nice message at the end which I wasn't beaten over the head with. I usually don't like a "moral" in my reading because a lot of authors make it so obvious and completely cheesy but this author did it just right.

Overall: This book was a complete win. Edited well and a fantastic read. I can't recommend it enough!!! Just read, "The Bridal Hunt" by same author and it's a winner as well. I think this author has hit her sweet spot (and mine) with this genre! MORE, MORE, MORE!!!

There's a reason why this book has a 4.8 out of 5 star rating on Amazon even though the cover looks like the worst cheese ever written. It's because IT'S ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS I HAVE READ THIS YEAR!!!!! And I read about 2 a day. This 275 page book did it all for me. It made me laugh (which I rarely do when reading), made me smile, made me bite my nails, made me cry a little and made my panties wet. Yep, coming out at both ends but not at the same time, mind you.
