Nowhere does he clearly state a doctrinal position on the subject. As a result, a controversy has raged for more than a century about whether or not MacDonald was a universalist. Now MacDonald scholar and biographer Michael Phillips tackles the 鈥済reat hell debate鈥 head on in this authoritative book. 听 With numerous quotes from MacDonald鈥檚 writings and his extensive knowledge of MacDonald鈥檚 work, Phillips blows the lid off the debate by illuminating the full scope of MacDonald鈥檚 afterlife vision. One of the most significant studies of MacDonald鈥檚 theological perspectives ever written, this is a must-read for all serious students of George MacDonald.]]> 491 Michael R. <![CDATA[Water To Wine: Some of My Story]]> 28542415
鈥淚 was halfway to ninety鈥攎idway through life鈥攁nd I had reached a full-blown crisis. Call it garden variety mid-life crisis if you want, but it was something more. You might say it was a theological crisis, though that makes it sound too cerebral. The unease I felt came from a deeper place than a mental file labeled 鈥渢heology.鈥 I was wrestling with the uneasy feeling that the faith I had built my life around was somehow deficient. Not wrong, but lacking. It seemed watery, weak. In my most honest moments I couldn鈥檛 help but notice that the faith I knew seemed to lack the kind of robust authenticity that made Jesus so fascinating. And I had always been utterly fascinated by Jesus. What I knew was that the Jesus I believed in warranted a better Christianity than what I was familiar with. I was in Cana and the wine had run out. I needed Jesus to perform a miracle.鈥 鈥揥ater To Wine]]>

<![CDATA[Christian Philosophy as a Way of Life: An Invitation to Wonder]]> 102882905
This book recovers a more classical vision of Christian philosophy as an entire way of life. Inman shows that wonder is the distinctively human posture that drives and sustains the examined life and makes a compelling case that philosophy is valuable, practical, and significant for every aspect of Christian life and ministry. Living philosophically as a Christian enables us to be properly attuned to what is true and good in Christ and to orient our lives to the highest goals worth pursuing.

This is an ideal introductory book for students of philosophy, Christian thought, and worldview studies. It will also work well in classical school, high school, and homeschool contexts.]]>

<![CDATA[Finish: Give Yourself the Gift of Done]]> 35397160 Year after year, readers pulled me aside at events and said, 鈥淚鈥檝e never had a problem starting. I鈥檝e started a million things, but I never finish them. Why can鈥檛 I finish?

According to studies, 92 percent of New Year鈥檚 resolutions fail. You鈥檝e practically got a better shot at getting into Juilliard to become a ballerina than you do at finishing your goals.

For years, I thought my problem was that I didn鈥檛 try hard enough. So I started getting up earlier. I drank enough energy drinks to kill a horse. I hired a life coach and ate more superfoods. Nothing worked, although I did develop a pretty nice eyelid tremor from all the caffeine. It was like my eye was waving at you, very, very quickly.

Then, while leading a thirty-day online course to help people work on their goals, I learned something surprising: The most effective exercises were not those that pushed people to work harder. The ones that got people to the finish line did just the opposite鈥 they took the pressure off.

Why? Because the sneakiest obstacle to meeting your goals is not laziness, but perfectionism. We鈥檙e our own worst critics, and if it looks like we鈥檙e not going to do something right, we prefer not to do it at all. That鈥檚 why we鈥檙e most likely to quit on day two, 鈥渢he day after perfect鈥濃€攚hen our results almost always underper颅form our aspirations.

The strategies in this book are counterintuitive and might feel like cheating. But they鈥檙e based on studies conducted by a university researcher with hundreds of participants. You might not guess that having more fun, eliminating your secret rules, and choosing something to bomb intentionally works. But the data says otherwise. People who have fun are 43 percent more successful! Imagine if your diet, guitar playing, or small business was 43 percent more suc颅cessful just by following a few simple principles.

If you鈥檙e tired of being a chronic starter and want to become a consistent finisher, you have two options: You can continue to beat yourself up and try harder, since this time that will work. Or you can give yourself the gift of done.]]>

鈥 Why do Fives seem so unavailable, even to their closest family and friends, while Twos seem to feel everybody else's feelings but their own and end up irritating people who don't want their help?
