<![CDATA[Highly Suspicious and Unfairly Cute]]> 57370115
Celine Bangura is conspiracy-theory-obsessed. Social media followers eat up her takes on everything from UFOs to holiday overconsumption—yet, she’s still not cool enough for the popular kids table. Which is why Brad abandoned her for the in-crowd years ago. (At least, that’s how Celine sees it.)

These days, there’s nothing between them other than petty insults and academic rivalry. So when Celine signs up for a survival course in the woods, she’s surprised to find Brad right beside her.

Forced to work as a team for the chance to win a grand prize, these two teens must trudge through not just mud and dirt but their messy past. And as this adventure brings them closer together, they begin to remember the good bits of their history. But has too much time passed . . . or just enough to spark a whole new kind of relationship?]]>

Bunny (Bunny, #1) 53285047 We were just these innocent girls in the night trying to make something beautiful. We nearly died. We very nearly did, didn't we?

Samantha Heather Mackey couldn't be more of an outsider in her small, highly selective MFA program at New England's Warren University. A scholarship student who prefers the company of her dark imagination to that of most people, she is utterly repelled by the rest of her fiction writing cohort--a clique of unbearably twee rich girls who call each other Bunny, and seem to move and speak as one.

But everything changes when Samantha receives an invitation to the Bunnies' fabled Smut Salon, and finds herself inexplicably drawn to their front door--ditching her only friend, Ava, in the process. As Samantha plunges deeper and deeper into the Bunnies' sinister yet saccharine world, beginning to take part in the ritualistic off-campus Workshop where they conjure their monstrous creations, the edges of reality begin to blur. Soon, her friendships with Ava and the Bunnies will be brought into deadly collision.

The spellbinding new novel from one of our most fearless chroniclers of the female experience, Bunny is a down-the-rabbit-hole tale of loneliness and belonging, friendship and desire, and the fantastic and terrible power of the imagination.

Wash Day Diaries 60644542 From writer Jamila Rowser and artist Robyn Smith comes a captivating graphic novel love letter to the beauty and endurance of Black women, their friendships, and their hair.

Wash Day Diaries tells the story of four best friends—Kim, Tanisha, Davene, and Cookie—through five connected short story comics that follow these young women through the ups and downs of their daily lives in the Bronx.

The book takes its title from the wash day experience shared by Black women everywhere of setting aside all plans and responsibilities for a full day of washing, conditioning, and nourishing their hair. Each short story uses hair routines as a window into these four characters' everyday lives and how they care for each other.

Jamila Rowser and Robyn Smith originally kickstarted their critically acclaimed, award-winning slice of life mini comic, Wash Day, inspired by Rowser's own wash day ritual and their shared desire to see more comics featuring the daily lived experiences of young Black women. Wash Day Diaries includes an updated, full color version of this original comic—which follows Kim, a 26-year-old woman living in the Bronx—as the book's first chapter and expands into a graphic novel with short stories about these vibrant and relatable new characters.

In expanding the story of Kim and her friends, the authors pay tribute to Black sisterhood through portraits of shared, yet deeply personal experiences of Black hair care. From self-care to spilling the tea at an hours-long salon appointment to healing family rifts, the stories are brought to life through beautifully drawn characters and different color palettes reflecting the mood in each story.

At times touching, quiet, triumphant, and laugh out loud funny, the stories of Wash Day Diaries pay a loving tribute to Black joy and the resilience of Black women.]]>

⚠️CW/TW: Murder, Gore, and Death⚠️

I didn't have high hope going into this book because I wasn't the biggest fan of Beowulf but I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed this book. I really liked seeing the progression of Grendel's personality and morals throughout it. This book kind of makes you sympathize with him but also makes you not like him at the same time. This book was also one of the first times I had ever annotated a book so as I was doing it I noticed alot of symbolism in the book and it was nice to see all of this compare to the Beowulf poem. I really like how it went more in depth with some of the other characters like Grendel's mom and the Dragon. I really ended up loving the Dragon even more than I did in the poem. I really enjoyed his chapter. I do want to say though there were a couple of chapters in this book I couldn't stand. One of them I didn't even completely finish because I just didn't like it all. Besides those few two chapters I did enjoy this book. It exceeded my expectations.]]>

This book was unbelievable. Like... I don't even know what to say... Well for starters I will definitely be reading some more books by this author because holy shit. The way this book is written and the way things are described... disgusting (in a good way). I felt so many emotions during this book. I felt sad, shocked, disgusted, horrified, and even sick at some points. The relationship between the sisters didn't help. It's such an animalistic and uncomfortable relationship and it feels right at home in this book. The twists towards the end of this book had be screaming at the book. I had to take multiple breaks because my heart was racing. I would also just like to throw in that I started this book a week before I went on vacation where I didn't read anything and I would still constantly think about this book. After the vacation I picked the book back up and I was immediately invested all over again. This book was so good I remembered all the details the whole month later! I definitely won't be able to describe how amazing this book is because I would be typing for literal hours because there are so many things I want to talk about. It took me quite a while to read this book because I went on vacation halfway through but I enjoyed this book. It's probably my favorite of the series. I'm glad this book thook a different route than the others and I'm excited to read the next book. The lurker being in the facility and Collins injecting himself were nice twists. I really liked them. Shelby was also a great FMC to follow and I don't understand why so many people are hating on her. She is a smart woman and yes she did hide information that caused the sink hole, but I mean what would you do? Peter literally tried to give her to these random aliens on Earth. I would have been pissed and lied too. Besides her though I also really like Collins and Vagan. Collins got on my nerves at first but he loved Shelby, so I understand why he was the way he was and I can respect that. I'm also extremely excited to see where his story goes. Vagan was also very devoted and I like him too. I'm gonna be reading the next book soon!]]>

I did a bad, bad thing.

Thanks to a blank in my memory, I'm not sure what that thing was, but it was horrible enough to get me locked up in the mental ward for seven years. Horrible enough that my little sister won't even speak to me.

But when I'm released back into a town determined to rub my unknown sins in my face, the past isn't the only thing that's haunting me. The four "imaginary" friends who made my childhood bearable barge into my life in a very real way.

They're crude, criminally inclined, and more than a little unstable after ages trapped in afterlife limbo. All they want is to protect me. Worship me. Avenge me.

So they'll bludgeon, maim, eviscerate—tear a strip of havoc right through this sleepy town.

Even rise from the dead.

Maybe I'm still not all that sane either, because part of me finds them strangely appealing. In ways very different from how I felt as a kid. And that's not the only strangeness stirring inside me...

I promised myself I'd stick to the straight and narrow from here on. But what if the only way to set things right is to get a little ghoulish?

Okay... So this was definitely a book... And I definitely read it... That being said this book was so bad. Okay for starters I don't like the excessive use of the word psycho. It just made me kind of uncomfortable especially since it was used to Lily simply because of the fact that she was sent to a mental institution. Obviously I don't know what she did to send her there but still. As someone who does suffer from mental illness it just made me uncomfortable. Next up, the bullying. It seemed so unrealistic. Like why not just go to the cops? They literally physically assaulted her and basically kidnapped her. Like come on. While we are on the subject of Lily she is just so insufferable. I do like how much she truly cares for her sister. I've always been really into tight family bonds in media. I always find it so wholesome and sweet but besides that there is literally nothing to like about her. She's very cringy and I had second hand embarrassment the whole fucking book. Not only from her but the guys as well. The guys appearances and personalities remind me of an OC that an edgy 13 year old creepypasta fan would make. They are so bland and not deep at all. I was also really uncomfortable with the fact that they would constantly reference her as a kid. As well as using the same nicknames for her as they did when she was a child. Even when flirting with her. It was so uncomfortable, gross, and just weird. I feel the same about the way the story is written. It's just so bad and shit. One of the worst scenes by far is the sex scene between Lily and Nox in one of the last few chapters. It started out normal BUT THEN SHE STARTED FUCKING SINGING?!?!? HELL NO. After that stupid fucking scene I started speed reading this book even more than I was before. If you liked this book go off! ⚠️CW/TW: None that I could see but feel free to correct me⚠️

This book was slightly different than the others. The others were very happy and cozy while this books was slightly sadder. Obviously it was comfy and cheerful but there were a few parts that made me slightly tear up. Maybe it's just because I'm an overly emotional person but there were some parts that really tugged on my heart strings. Besides that though I really liked how it brought back the characters from book two and book one! I love Greta and Rinn! Aswell as Hese and Erik so seeing them all together made me really happy! Seeing Greta get to finally become an apprentice made me really happy aswell! As always I loved all the extra information in the back of this book! It made me feel more immersed in the world and I really wish I lived in it! I'm sad that this is the last book in this series but I'll definitely be rereading this series whenever I'm down!

By Pain of Death 60774299 Can the winter in his heart be thawed?

Hades has lost track of the passage of time beyond sorting the deceased into their eternal homes. With each arrival of another soul, the agony they experienced in their final moments seeps into his ichor. It is a painful, isolated existence within Hades's palace, but far safer than returning to the Underworld beyond its doors.

Hades's predictable days are interrupted by the arrival of Hermes with a stranger of a deity that Hades can barely recall. When the god introduces himself as Seph and explains that he needs a safe place where his life-entwined mother can't follow, Hades is forced to confront the loneliness that dwells deep within him—and his personal belief that he deserves little more than death as well.

By Pain of Death is a 9,500-word low heat M/M retelling of the Hades and Persephone myth with a disabled protagonist and a trans man love interest.

This book is intended only for adult audiences. Content notes may be found in the book's front matter and on the author's website.]]>

<![CDATA[A Psalm for the Wild-Built (Monk & Robot, #1)]]> 40864002 ASIN B08H831J18 moved to the more recent edition

Centuries before, robots of Panga gained self-awareness, laid down their tools, wandered, en masse into the wilderness, never to be seen again. They faded into myth and urban legend.

Now the life of the tea monk who tells this story is upended by the arrival of a robot, there to honor the old promise of checking in. The robot cannot go back until the question of "what do people need?" is answered. But the answer to that question depends on who you ask, and how. They will need to ask it a lot. Chambers' series asks: in a world where people have what they want, does having more matter?]]>

I loved this book! It definitely took me a while to read it. I started it sometime in March and I finished it a few days ago. It took me so long because I definitely had to be in the mood to read it since it was a cozy book but I would definitely recommend this! I loved Dex they're a great character! I loved seeing them struggle with finding their purpose and what they want to do. It was very relatable and it feels nice to see someone in a book struggle in ways similar to me. I also loved Mosscap! It's realtionship with Dex was amazing to read! To see their relationship evolve over the book and watching them have deep conversations. Every conversation they had made me think about life and just everything in the world. I love that! I can't wait to read the next book!]]>

King Cobra (Naga Brides #2) 58022098
From the moment her name is spoken, it is all I can hear. Her frightened tears bring me anger. I vow to wipe them off her face and banish her fear. To make her my queen.

But I have to catch her first.

I have to convince her to trust me.

I have to show her she is safe.

But only with ME.

Because if any other naga male tries to take Daisy away from me, I will kill them.

And if she runs?

She’ll find out there’s no escape.

I’ve paid the price to mate her, and she needs to know a gilded nest is better than freedom in my world.

This book was good. I liked this book better than the first one. I feel like Zaku and Daisy are a little more fleshed out than Vruksha and Gemma in the first book. I also really liked Daisy and Zaku. I was kinda surprised. I thought I wasn't going to like Daisy but I did. I also really like how much deeper Zaku was than Vruksha. Of course Vruksha did have deep thoughts about his family but seeing Zaku talk about how he loves Daisy so much that he hates himself for his size. It was alot deeper. As well as the fact that he genuinely loved Daisy so much that he didn't want to do anything sexual with her despite her wanting to because he didn't want to hurt her. I don't have much to say besides that. It was pretty short and a decent read.]]>

I went into this book expecting a thriller where Korede was going to absolutely despise her sister and turn her in at the end of book. Boy was I suprised when I didn't get that. What I got was a story about sisterly love. Of course not your typical sisterly love but nonetheless. This book was honestly amazing. The beginning didn't immediately interest me and I thought it was boring at first but then it hooked me and once it did I couldn't put this book down. The complex emotions Korede has towards Ayoola is truly something. I can't even put it into words. This book is just wow. I honestly cannot recommend it enough. GO READ THIS BOOK!!]]>

Without brides, without females to warm us during the long nights. Without sweet mates.
But we see them, from afar, brides that could be ours. Kept away from us by walls and weapons. Females we long for greatly.

Obsessively.

Human females.

And the one with red hair? I want her. I saw her first. I will fight to the death for her.

She is MINE.

So, we’ll come together and make an exchange with their men that will benefit us all.
After that?
To the winner goes the spoils
Let the hunt begin.

But the red-headed female is MINE.

I enjoyed this book. As an avid monster romance reader this books was enjoyable. I liked all the Naga's and Gemma with that being said I'm not too into the whole lurker part of the story or the fact that the other female Naga's left and disappeared. I'm not entirely sure why but it just didn't really interest me. I found myself liking the scenes between Gemma and Vruksha and they're relationship more. I LOVED the scene in the 2nd to last chapter where Gemma realized that she had been manipulating his emotions and finally accepted him. I might continue this series but I not entirely sure since I'm pretty sure the next book is about Daisy and I didn't care too much for her character. It'll also probably go into more detail about the lurker side of the story and I'm not really interested in that. With that being said who knows. Maybe I'll change my mind and I'll read the next few. I LOVED THIS BOOK! I was hooked from the first page and I couldn't put it down for days! I love Jack and Rose! They are really good characters and I loved reading both of their POV's. One of my big fears when reading romance is that the FMC is going to be a pick me or make stupid decisions but Rose was very realistic and also very blunt at times. I really like how she was straight forward and didn't beat around the bush! It was really refreshing. I'm also a sucker for books where the MMC is infatuated and head over heels with the FMC and that's how Jack was. I just love both of them so much! This book was beautifully written! I've always been a fan of any piece of media that comments on greif and loss and this book is one of the best I've ever come across. There are so many things I want to talk about that happened in this book. From Mika, Julie, and Sam's relationship to Oliver and his relationship with Sam and Julie. Not to mention the way this book shows how Julie deals with the grief. One of the best scenes that I can't stop thinking about is when Julie tries to give the manager a copy of Sam's songs and she drops Tristans rose. It's just so symbolic and an amazing scene. I've seen many people say that Julie is an "unlikeable mc" but I actually really liked that. I liked that her way of dealing with grief was selfish. It made you feel happy to see her grow as she realizes that she isn't the only one struggling and how her isolating herself was hurting others. There were so scene were she did really annoy me and there were some scenes I wished were longer but at the end of the day I would definitely recommend reading this book!]]>

The Ardent Swarm 56449198
Sidi lives a hermetic life as a bee whisperer, tending to his beloved “girls on the outskirts of the desolate North African village of Nawa. He wakes one morning to find that something has attacked one of his beehives, brutally killing every inhabitant. Heartbroken, he soon learns that a mysterious swarm of vicious hornets committed the mass murder—but where did they come from, and how can he stop them? If he is going to unravel this mystery and save his bees from annihilation, Sidi must venture out into the village and then brave the big city and beyond in search of answers.

Along the way, he discovers a country and a people turned upside down by their new post–Arab Spring reality as Islamic fundamentalists seek to influence votes any way they can on the eve of the country’s first democratic elections. To succeed in his quest, and find a glimmer of hope to protect all that he holds dear, Sidi will have to look further than he ever imagined.

I thought this book was interesting aswell as when it set. It's set around the of the Arab Spring and I enjoyed researching it. The reason I DNFed this book was because I didn't really feel the draw to continue this book. It's not really interesting to me and I just felt bored reading it. I tried to force myself to continue but I'm trying to DNF more if I'm not enjoying a book because I don't want to put myself in a slump. That being said if you like historical fiction I would definitely recommend this book! It's written very well and I could definitely see how this would be a good book for certain people but it's just not my cup of tea.

I really liked this book! I have a hard time reading graphic novels sometimes but I've been wanting to get better with that and this was really good! I really relate to Morgan and what she goes through as someone who has had to come out multiple times. This book is really short and cute and I would definitely recommend reading it! My only complaint is that I wish it was a bit longer. I wanted Morgan to spend more time with her family and friends so I could really get attached to them but besides that I think it was really good!]]>

By the Book (Meant to Be, #2) 58950845 A tale as old as time—for a new generation

Isabelle is completely lost. When she first began her career in publishing right out of college, she did not expect to be twenty-five, living at home, still an editorial assistant, and the only Black employee at her publishing house. Overworked and underpaid, constantly torn between speaking up or stifling herself, Izzy thinks there must be more to this publishing life. So when she overhears her boss complaining about a beastly high-profile author who has failed to deliver his long-awaited manuscript, Isabelle sees an opportunity to finally get the promotion she deserves.

All she has to do is go to the author’s Santa Barbara mansion and give him a quick pep talk or three. How hard could it be?

But Izzy quickly finds out she is in over her head. Beau Towers is not some celebrity lightweight writing a tell-all memoir. He is jaded and withdrawn and—it turns out—just as lost as Izzy. But despite his standoffishness, Izzy needs Beau to deliver, and with her encouragement, his story begins to spill onto the page. They soon discover they have more in common than either of them expected, and as their deadline nears, Izzy and Beau begin to realize there may be something there that wasn't there before.

Best-selling author Jasmine Guillory’s reimagining of a beloved fairy tale is a romantic triumph of love and acceptance and learning that sometimes to truly know a person you have to read between the lines. ]]>

They both have such realistic flaws and it makes you fall in love with them even more! Not to mention the fact that Izzy's job is book publishing and she is a total book worm! From acclaimed performance poet Sophia Thakur comes a powerful new collection of poems exploring issues of identity, difference, perseverance, relationships, fear, loss and joy. The collection is arranged as life is: from youth to school, to home life, falling in love and falling straight back out again. The poems draw on the author’s experience as a young mixed-race young woman trying to make sense of a lonely and complicated world. With a strong narrative voice and emotional empathy, this is poetry that will resonate with all young people, whatever their background, and whatever their dreams. As she says, she hopes the poems will help readers "grow through what they go through".]]>

The only reason I gave this book a 3/5 is simply because I didn't really feel the extreme urge to keep reading but I did. I wanted to because of the messages and meanings behind the poems. I'm Glad My Mom Died 59364173
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction, eating little and weighing herself five times a day. She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers? She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income.

In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail—just as she chronicles what happens when the dream finally comes true. Cast in a new Nickelodeon series called iCarly , she is thrust into fame. Though Mom is ecstatic, emailing fan club moderators and getting on a first-name basis with the paparazzi (“Hi Gale!), Jennette is riddled with anxiety, shame, and self-loathing, which manifest into eating disorders, addiction, and a series of unhealthy relationships. These issues only get worse when, soon after taking the lead in the iCarly spinoff Sam & Cat alongside Ariana Grande, her mother dies of cancer. Finally, after discovering therapy and quitting acting, Jennette embarks on recovery and decides for the first time in her life what she really wants.

Told with refreshing candor and dark humor, I’m Glad My Mom Died is an inspiring story of resilience, independence, and the joy of shampooing your own hair.]]>

This book is so amazing. To be able to hear Jennettes story it really puts into view the abuse that goes on behind the scenes with child actors. Reading the inner thoughts of someone who has gone through that abuse along with other difficulties such as anorexia and even grief really puts into prospective just how different everyones life is. Reading this book hit me in spots that I never thought it would. I cried quite a few times and after reading this I am alot more aware of not only signs of abuse but also how we all react differently to every situation. It has made me think alot more open minded. All this being said it unbelievable seeing all the things that Jennette has gone through and I have so much respect for her for not only dealing with all the abuse but also being able to climb her way out of the unhealthy habits and being able to deal with her mental illness and eating disorders. <![CDATA[The Girl and the Goddess: Stories and Poems of Divine Wisdom]]> 49814602 Bestselling poet, writer, and Instagram sensation Nikita Gill returns with a collection of poetry and prose exploring Hindu mythology and legend.

Let her be a little less human, a little more divine
Give her heart armor so it doesn't break as easily as mine

Meet Paro. A girl with a strong will, a full heart, and much to learn. Born into a family reeling from the ruptures of Partition in India, we follow her as she crosses the precarious lines between childhood, teenage discovery, and realizing her adult self. In the process, Paro must confront fear, desire and the darkest parts of herself in the search for meaning and, ultimately, empowerment.

Nikita Gill's vivid poetry and beautiful illustrations have captured hearts and imaginations--but in The Girl and the Goddess, she offers us her most personal and deeply felt writing to date: an intimate coming-of-age story told in linked poems that offers a look into the Hindu mythology and rich cultural influences that helped her become the woman she is today.]]>

The Crucible 17250
Written in 1953, The Crucible is a mirror Miller uses to reflect the anti-communist hysteria inspired by Senator Joseph McCarthy's "witch-hunts" in the United States. Within the text itself, Miller contemplates the parallels, writing, "Political opposition... is given an inhumane overlay, which then justifies the abrogation of all normally applied customs of civilized behavior. A political policy is equated with moral right, and opposition to it with diabolical malevolence."

WIth an introduction by Christopher Bigsby.

Of Mice and Men 890 “I got you to look after me, and you got me to look after you, and that's why.

They are an unlikely pair: George is "small and quick and dark of face"; Lennie, a man of tremendous size, has the mind of a young child. Yet they have formed a "family," clinging together in the face of loneliness and alienation. Laborers in California's dusty vegetable fields, they hustle work when they can, living a hand-to-mouth existence. But George and Lennie have a plan: to own an acre of land and a shack they can call their own.

While the powerlessness of the laboring class is a recurring theme in Steinbeck's work of the late 1930s, he narrowed his focus when composing Of Mice and Men, creating an intimate portrait of two men facing a world marked by petty tyranny, misunderstanding, jealousy, and callousness. But though the scope is narrow, the theme is universal: a friendship and a shared dream that makes an individual's existence meaningful.

A unique perspective on life's hardships, this story has achieved the status of timeless classic due to its remarkable success as a novel, a Broadway play, and three acclaimed films.]]>

And they have no problem displaying their feelings through a series of ritualistic passive aggressive maneuvers as they sit across from each other, executive assistants to co-CEOs of a publishing company. Lucy can’t understand Joshua’s joyless, uptight, meticulous approach to his job. Joshua is clearly baffled by Lucy’s overly bright clothes, quirkiness, and Pollyanna attitude.

Now up for the same promotion, their battle of wills has come to a head and Lucy refuses to back down when their latest game could cost her her dream job…But the tension between Lucy and Joshua has also reached its boiling point, and Lucy is discovering that maybe she doesn’t hate Joshua. So when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, everything in Lily’s life suddenly seems almost too good to be true.

Ryle is assertive, stubborn, maybe even a little arrogant. He’s also sensitive, brilliant, and has a total soft spot for Lily. And the way he looks in scrubs certainly doesn’t hurt. Lily can’t get him out of her head. But Ryle’s complete aversion to relationships is disturbing. Even as Lily finds herself becoming the exception to his “no dating rule, she can’t help but wonder what made him that way in the first place.

As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan her first love and a link to the past she left behind. He was her kindred spirit, her protector. When Atlas suddenly reappears, everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened.]]>
