review:
I found this book to be a good sequel to Pathfinder. I do understand some other readers disdain for the characters bickering. I however, was not bothered by their childish thoughts and outbursts because they are in fact children. I think Orson Scott Card takes his time creating internal monologue for all the characters, which might seem tedious to read and get through, but I found it to be a nice way to make the characters seem the most real. Umbo deals with jealousy and resentment while Rigg struggles with the responsibility that is thrown upon him. All things are dealt with in a way that would happen realistically. Yes, I do think the the characters get annoying, but I think it builds on the characters. I did find Param's character to be annoying, but I in no way found it to be a political standpoint against women. It is explained thoroughly that she is the way she is because of her royal upbringing, which in fact makes complete sense. She was bred to rule, how could she at 15 or something, with no other parent, act otherwise? I also enjoyed, even though this is a young adult book, that it didn't fall into the standard conflict of young romance. It doesn't dismiss the possibility, but it doesn't make it the main conflict which is so relieving. I found the story to be just as captivating as Pathfinder, and much less confusing. I also was not swayed by OSC's opinions on religion or politics. I thought the way each character thought was cohesive to the character. I didn't find it preachy at all. In fact, i had completely forgotten that some of the reviews mentioned it until I came here to write mine. To me, it's a different planet, yes they are humans but genetically altered. I didn't find the human existence of 11000 years to be a sign of creationism, because that's when the humans landed on the Garden. I guess if you want to read that far into it, it can be construed as religious intent, but I thought it was subtle unlike most of the reviewers. I also like to separate the authors real life and their written work if it's at all possible. He wasn't outrightly telling me to become Mormon through his characters, and I in no way felt inclined to do so by reading this book. I enjoyed it. It does however end with a cliff hanger and having been released so recently, I can't anticipate the next book for a while. I'm excited for the follow up and to see how everything turns out. Though nothing necessarily gets resolved in this book, much is learned and the anticipation for the end grows. I enjoyed it thoroughly, though it was easier to put down than Pathfinder.

review:
As always, I find Maggie Stiefvater's writing sophisticated as well as fluid making for an easy, interesting read. However, as invested and intrigued I am with the so called "Raven Boys," I found myself frustrated. It is a very good sequel from the first book of the raven cycle and I liked it much better, but I find Blue to be a rather annoying character and mildly useless in this installment. I also was a bit bewildered at how calm and normal everyone and everything seemed to be with their little group after the events that happened at the end of the first book. Adam made some ultimate sacrifice that relatively did little harm to him throughout this novel (of course, it may cause more turmoil later). Ronan's story line was by far the most interesting, but I was made less excited by how unenthusiastic his friends were about his newfound abilities. Everything seemed so unimportant, like this is what normal teenagers do, they go out and find mystical things and are gifted with mystical abilities. It was nauseatingly nonchalant and it bothered me. Back to how I find Blue to be one of the most annoying characters I've ever faced and her inability to confront her own issues at to why she is so hurt when she wasn't invited to Gansey's political party and resort to making a feminist argument that is hardly relevant. I also don't care for her story line too much. Of course I don't want Gansey to die, but I find Blue's constant battle with it annoying. She doesn't love Adam because she thinks he can't treat her the way he does, yet she completely forgets the fact that he pretty much gave up part of his soul no more than a month ago. She is so involved in her own feelings and her childish want to be accepted by a group of boys who she's been friends with for less than a few months. She is so impatient it drives me nuts. I could write this whole review on how I hate Blue and how she's an annoying little brat, but I wont for my own sanity. Now, onto the raven boys. As much as I hate Blue and all her relationships, I love the boys' relationships with each other. Gansey's deep love for all of them is so profound and touching that I hope it lasts because I really don't care to hear about his feelings for Blue. I love the lore and mystery of Cabeswater and the ley line and I'm very excited to see where Maggie will take us now that Ronan's mother has woken up. I though the character of Kavinsky was whatever, it didn't do much for me. It provided a cool battle at the end, which I still am baffled as to how that was okay and everyone was just able to leave nevermind the forever asleep dream companion and the dead Russian kid. OH! not to mention THE GIANT DEAD DRAGON AND NIGHT TERROR FLYING AROUND. Those things just don't disappear when they're dead do they? So you've got these giant creatures that have undoubtedly injured, if not killed some kids, caused irreparable damage to the landscape, just lying there while the epilogue takes us back to Blue's house where her irresponsible mother has now done some black magic and is missing. If anyone was going to disappear I thought it would be Calla or Persephonie. Furthermore, the Gray Man's presence was possibly the most uneventful storyline in this book. Especially since he let Ronan go without a fight. Also, HOW IS EVERY JUST CHILL WITH THE FACT THAT HES A HIT MAN. "I'm a hit man....." "Thats nice." HOW THE HELL IS THAT OKAY?!?! I hope his character develops more in later books and he become more of an influential character or connected somehow because right now I'm just scratching my head as to why he's even there. Also, no mention of Blue's missing, possessed, crazy Aunt Neeve, Who disappeared at the end of the first book. Also Ronan sees his Dad in a dream and talks to him? He can do that now? An all his dad says is "You figured it out."? THAT'S ALL HE HAS TO SAY??? I hope you are beginning to see how frustrated I was while reading. I gave this book a 3 because I did have a hard time putting it down, but I was so distraught by so many things that I couldn't give it anything higher. There are so many more things I had to say, but I can't think of them now as I am getting increasingly more frustrated as I write this.

Katniss Everdeen, girl on fire, has survived, even though her home has been destroyed. Gale has escaped. Katniss's family is safe. Peeta has been captured by the Capitol. District 13 really does exist. There are rebels. There are new leaders. A revolution is unfolding.

It is by design that Katniss was rescued from the arena in the cruel and haunting Quarter Quell, and it is by design that she has long been part of the revolution without knowing it. District 13 has come out of the shadows and is plotting to overthrow the Capitol. Everyone, it seems, has had a hand in the carefully laid plans—except Katniss.

The success of the rebellion hinges on Katniss's willingness to be a pawn, to accept responsibility for countless lives, and to change the course of the future of Panem. To do this, she must put aside her feelings of anger and distrust. She must become the rebels' Mockingjay—no matter what the personal cost.]]>

And the Capitol wants revenge.

Against all odds, Katniss Everdeen has won the Hunger Games. She and fellow District 12 tribute Peeta Mellark are miraculously still alive. Katniss should be relieved, happy even. After all, she has returned to her family and her longtime friend, Gale. Yet nothing is the way Katniss wishes it to be. Gale holds her at an icy distance. Much to her shock, Katniss has fueled an unrest that she's afraid she cannot stop. And what scares her even more is that she's not entirely convinced she should try. As time draws near for Katniss and Peeta to visit the districts on the Capitol's cruel Victory Tour, the stakes are higher than ever. With Valentine mustering the full force of his power to destroy all Shadowhunters forever, their only chance to defeat him is to fight alongside their eternal enemies. But can Downworlders and Shadowhunters put aside their hatred to work together? While Jace realizes exactly how much he's willing to risk for Clary, can she harness her newfound powers to help save the Glass City - whatever the cost?

Love is a mortal sin and the secrets of the past prove deadly as Clary and Jace face down Valentine in the third installment of the New York Times bestselling series The Mortal Instruments.]]>

Winning means fame and fortune. Losing means certain death. The Hunger Games have begun. . . .

In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.

Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen regards it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister's place in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before-and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.]]>

<![CDATA[Ender’s Game (Ender's Saga, #1)]]> 375802
But Ender is not the only result of the experiment. The war with the Buggers has been raging for a hundred years, and the quest for the perfect general has been underway almost as long. Ender's two older siblings, Peter and Valentine, are every bit as unusual as he is, but in very different ways. While Peter was too uncontrollably violent, Valentine very nearly lacks the capability for violence altogether. Neither was found suitable for the military's purpose. But they are driven by their jealousy of Ender, and by their inbred drive for power. Peter seeks to control the political process, to become a ruler. Valentine's abilities turn more toward the subtle control of the beliefs of commoner and elite alike, through powerfully convincing essays. Hiding their youth and identities behind the anonymity of the computer networks, these two begin working together to shape the destiny of Earth-an Earth that has no future at all if their brother Ender fails.]]>
