Napravit vlastní život se Závišovi nedaří, možná by ale mohl vyřešit alespoň záhadu obou kosterních pozůstatků. Jenže čím hlouběji se do případu noří, tím víc chápe marnost, kterou pociťoval Oldřich z Rožmberka, když se v patnáctém století pokoušel na Dívčím Kameni polapit cizí špehy.

Evangelical books, films, music, clothing, and merchandise shape the beliefs of millions. And evangelical popular culture is teeming with muscular heroes—mythical warriors and rugged soldiers, men like Oliver North, Ronald Reagan, Mel Gibson, and the Duck Dynasty clan, who assert white masculine power in defense of “Christian America.�� Chief among these evangelical legends is John Wayne, an icon of a lost time when men were uncowed by political correctness, unafraid to tell it like it was, and did what needed to be done.

Trump, in other words, is hardly the first flashy celebrity to capture evangelicals�� hearts and minds, nor is he the first strongman to promise evangelicals protection and power. Indeed, the values and viewpoints at the heart of white evangelicalism today—patriarchy, authoritarian rule, aggressive foreign policy, fear of Islam, ambivalence toward #MeToo, and opposition to Black Lives Matter and the LGBTQ community—are likely to persist long after Trump leaves office.

Byl to právě on, kdo po odsunu německého obyvatelstva v podstatě znovu objevil zapadlá místa nejsevernějších českých hor a napsal o tom ceněnou Knihu o Jizerských horách. Byl to on, kdo naučil čtenáře Karpatských her hrát hry na poutníka s lehkým srdcem či na jitřní radost; mnoho lidí tvrdí, že tato útlá kniha jim doslova změnila život.

Miloslav Nevrlý završuje devadesát let svého života v obdivuhodné fyzické i mentální kondici. V knižním rozhovoru rekapituluje své cesty a prožitky nad rámec toho, co o nich dosud napsal. Hovoří také o víře, o práci (lépe řečeno o zaměstnání) v libereckém muzeu, o své rodině a přátelích. Zejména pak vzpomíná na výpravy do osamělých hor, jakých je dnes už tak málo.

Je to krásně pomalé a motiv dějinného přeryvu a přizpůsobení (aspoň navenek) je nám z normalizace blízký a srozumitelný. Super jsou ty japonský dialogy, kdy si nakládate a přitom to navenek vypadá, že se vlastně navzájem chválíte.

Astrál poskytl Yarana ze sféry Saturnu, zatímco AI pro něj sehnala hmotné lidské tělo a zajistila technickou podporu, spočívající v přímém spojení jak s astrálem, tak s blokem vrstvených procesorů ovládajících městskou infrastrukturu.
Yaran byl ovšem naposledy na Zemi někdy před padesáti lety, a navíc ne jako člověk, ale jako evokovaný démon, a ještě k tomu v opuštěných, bohem zapomenutých Karpatech a ne ve vyspělé megapoli, jakou je Baltimore. Namísto kláštera s početnou řeholní komunitou tu však najde pouze několik řádových sester, vedených svéráznou řeholnicí Evaristou. Žítkovské bohyně se mi líbily moc, tohle drhlo. Možná proto, že o tématu jsem veděl víc. Zápletka překombinovaná, trochu smrděla Danem Brownem. Zprávy StB i tajemníků neměly za mě tu správnou dikci. Zněly hrozně moderně. A ta změněná jména? Bizár. Ale těší mně, že si kvůli knize hodně lidí přečte něco o skryté církvi, což by se jinak prostě nestalo.

A tak má po nocích spoustu času na vzpomínání: na to, jak před sedmnácti lety strávila jedno osudové léto v rodné vesnici Grund, obklopené rozvětveným tokem Rýna a hustými lesy.
