A Little Princess was published in book form in 1905 but it was first released, in 1888 as a serial in a magazine. So, as it was written 134 years ago, there are element around class and privilege, that would be contentious if written today. This is a beautiful and uplifting story and lovely writing. I listened to it on audiobook, narrated by Virginia Leishman, whose voice was perfect for the book.

I’m amazed at how much I’ve enjoyed this YA series. This story is very engaging, I felt really invested in the characters, the writing is excellent. There is a scene that depicts animal violence, which may be upsetting for younger readers, but generally, I think the series is suitable for kids from age 10. But don’t let that put off adult readers. If you have a child or grandchild who’s reading these books, this series is a great buddy read for you to have with them.
