For her sake, he would destroy the world

I have no idea why I can’t simply get into this series. I try and try and try and I keep on getting bored and trying to postpone reading it. I managed to do it by parts, which sucks for me. I like to read my books from start to finish and focus on them. Hunting Ground was a side-read to three other books. This explains why I can’t even write a proper review for it. I can’t remember much. I also skimmed a lot, which is why I won’t even bother with getting into details.

Why don’t I like it so much? No idea. It's not that it's bad. Patricia Briggs is one of my favorite authors; her Mercy Thompson series is mind-blowing. The characters are deep, the story is decent, and the universe is the same as Mercy. It just didn’t click. I’m pretty disappointed by it.]]>

<![CDATA[A Natural History of Dragons (The Memoirs of Lady Trent, #1)]]> 17787397 A Natural History of Dragons, combining adventure with the inquisitive spirit of the Victorian Age.

You, dear reader, continue at your own risk. It is not for the faint of heart—no more so than the study of dragons itself. But such study offers rewards beyond compare: to stand in a dragon's presence, even for the briefest of moments—even at the risk of one's life—is a delight that, once experienced, can never be forgotten. . . .

All the world, from Scirland to the farthest reaches of Eriga, know Isabella, Lady Trent, to be the world's preeminent dragon naturalist. She is the remarkable woman who brought the study of dragons out of the misty shadows of myth and misunderstanding into the clear light of modern science. But before she became the illustrious figure we know today, there was a bookish young woman whose passion for learning, natural history, and, yes, dragons defied the stifling conventions of her day.

Here at last, in her own words, is the true story of a pioneering spirit who risked her reputation, her prospects, and her fragile flesh and bone to satisfy her scientific curiosity; of how she sought true love and happiness despite her lamentable eccentricities; and of her thrilling expedition to the perilous mountains of Vystrana, where she made the first of many historic discoveries that would change the world forever.]]>

Burdened with hatred and alone for ages, he sees little reason to live. Until an exquisite, fey creature comes to kill him, inadvertently saving him instead. When Kaderin the Cold Hearted lost her two beloved sisters to a vampire attack long ago, a benevolent force deadened her sorrow—accidentally extinguishing all of her emotions. Yet whenever Kaderin encounters Sebastian, her feelings—particularly lust—emerge multiplied. For the first time, she’s unable to complete a kill. And when the prize of a legendary month-long contest is powerful enough to change history, Kaderin will do anything to win it for her sisters. Wanting only to win her, forever, Sebastian competes as well, taking every opportunity—as they travel to ancient tombs and through catacombs, seeking relics around the world—to use her new feelings to seduce her. But when Kaderin is forced to choose between the vampire she’s falling for and reuniting her family, how can she live without either?]]> 384 Kresley Cole 141653119X “”²Ō³śĆ» 3
Now, what I loved about the story was the dynamics of it. Yes, I prefer something to catch my attention and keep it for at least 60% of the book. Unfortunately sometimes it’s difficult for me to find this. No Rest for the Wicked had my full attention from page one, even though I found that the beginning of the story was a bit too sudden. But it wasn’t so bad, eventually I managed to get used to this. The Amazing-Race-like competition was a very good idea; I guess this is what made the whole book so great.

The characters were also nice. I am impressed with Sebastian, he can be a dualist at times and I find that interesting. He is such a kind and intelligent person. I must say I was expecting another brute, so this was a pleasant surprise for me. Kaderinā€ uhmā€ what can I say about her? I hated her. I really really did. I guess she wasn’t made for loving (except by poor Sebastian) so there was no surprise when I wanted to choke her to death. I actually got angry because the author exaggerated with Sebastian chasing her and kissing her ass so much. I doubt any man would do that even if she was his Bride.

All in all I must say that this was a really great read. I can’t wait to see what the next one in this series is about.]]>

After reading the previous two I was worried I’ll end up being blah towards this series, since I felt it was repetitive, but after this I think this will have a place among my favorites. The book had everything it needed: mind-blowing action, an amazing story, touching moments and hot love scenes. I’m really impressed.

An Apple for the Creature 13543159 Includes a never-before-published Sookie Stackhouse story!

What could be scarier than the first day of school? How about a crash course in the paranormal from Charlaine Harris and Toni L. P. Kelner, editors of Home Improvement: Undead Edition? Your worst school nightmares—taking that math test you never studied for, finding yourself naked in school assembly, not knowing which door to enter—will pale in comparison to these thirteen original stories that take academic anxiety to whole new realms.

In #1 New York Times bestselling author Charlaine Harris’s story, "Playing Possum," Sookie Stackhouse brings enough birthday cupcakes for her nephew's entire class but finds she's one short when the angry ex-boyfriend of the school secretary shows up.

When her guardian, Kate Daniels, sends her undercover to a school for exceptional children, teenaged Julie learns an all-new definition of "exceptional," in New York Times bestselling author Ilona Andrews's "Magic Tests."

For those who like fangs with their forensics, New York Times bestselling author Nancy Holder offers "VSI," in which FBI agent Claire is tested as never before in a school for Vampire Scene Investigation.

And in New York Times bestselling author Thomas Sniegoski's "The Bad Hour," Remy Chandler and his dog Marlowe find evil unleashed in an obedience school.

You'll need more than an apple to stave off the creatures in these and nine other stories. Remember your first lesson: resistance is fruitless!

No man can resist Jemma's sensuous allure . . . Except her own husband!

Wedding bells celebrating the arranged marriage between the lovely Duchess of Beaumont and her staid, imperturbable duke had scarcely fallen silent when a shocking discovery sent Jemma running from the ducal mansion. For the next nine years she cavorted abroad, creating one delicious scandal after another (if one is to believe the rumors).

Elijah, Duke of Beaumont, did believe those rumors.

But the handsome duke needs an heir, so he summons his seductive wife home. Jemma laughs at Elijah's cool eyes and icy heart—but to her secret shock, she doesn't share his feelings. In fact, she wants the her husband's heart at her feet.

But what manner of seduction will make a man fall desperately in love . . . with his own wife?]]>

The answers await in Weep, but so do more mysteries—including the blue-skinned goddess who appears in Lazlo’s dreams. How did he dream her before he knew she existed? And if all the gods are dead, why does she seem so real?

<![CDATA[The Archived (The Archived, #1)]]> 16095936 Imagine a place where the dead rest on shelves like books.

Each body has a story to tell, a life seen in pictures that only Librarians can read. The dead are called Histories, and the vast realm in which they rest is the Archive. Da first brought Mackenzie Bishop here four years ago, when she was twelve years old, frightened but determined to prove herself. Now Da is dead, and Mac has grown into what he once was: a ruthless Keeper, tasked with stopping often-violent Histories from waking up and getting out. Because of her job, she lies to the people she loves, and she knows fear for what it is: a useful tool for staying alive.

Being a Keeper isn't just dangerous-it's a constant reminder of those Mac has lost. Da's death was hard enough, but now that her little brother is gone too, Mac starts to wonder about the boundary between living and dying, sleeping and waking. In the Archive, the dead must never be disturbed. And yet, someone is deliberately altering Histories, erasing essential chapters. Unless Mac can piece together what remains, the Archive itself might crumble and fall.

In this haunting, richly imagined novel, Victoria Schwab reveals the thin lines between past and present, love and pain, trust and deceit, unbearable loss and hardwon redemption.]]>

Leopold Dautry, the notorious Duke of Villiers, must wed quickly and nobly—and his choices, alas, are few. The Duke of Montague's daughter, Eleanor, is exquisitely beautiful and fiercely intelligent. Villiers betroths himself to her without further ado.

After all, no other woman really qualifies. Lisette, the outspoken daughter of the Duke of Gilner, cares nothing for clothing or decorum. She's engaged to another man, and doesn't give a fig for status or title. Half the ton believes Lisette mad—and Villiers is inclined to agree.

Torn between logic and passion, between intelligence and imagination, Villiers finds himself drawn to the very edge of impropriety. But it is not until he's in a duel to the death, fighting for the reputation of the woman he loves, that Villiers finally realizes that the greatest risk may not be in the dueling field . . .

Faking It (Dempseys #2) 6348553 From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Jennifer Crusie comes Faking It, a deliciously sassy novel of intrigue, seduction, blackmail, art forgery, split personalities, and really great sex.Meet the Goodnights, a respectable family who run a respectable art gallery—and have for generations. There's Gwen, the matriarch, who likes to escape reality; Eve, the oldest daughter, who has a slight identity problem (she has two); Nadine, the granddaughter, who's ready to follow in the family footsteps as soon as she can find a set that isn't leading off a cliff. And last, Matilda, the youngest daughter, who has inherited the secret locked down in the basement of the Goodnight Gallery, a secret she's willing to do almost anything to keep, even break into a house in the dead of night to steal back her past. Meet the Dempseys, or at least meet Davy, a reformed con man who's just been ripped off for a cool three million by his financial manager, who then gallantly turned it over to Clea Lewis, the most beautiful sociopath Davy ever slept with. Davy wants the money back, but more than that, he'll do anything to keep Clea from winning, including break into her house in the dead of night to steal back his future. One collision in a closet later, Tilda and Davy reluctantly join forces to combat Clea, suspicious art collectors, a disgruntled heir, and an exasperated hit man, all the while coping with a mutant dachshund, a jukebox stuck in the sixties, questionable sex, and the growing realization that they can't turn their backs on the people they were meant to be . . . or the people they were born to love.]]> 432 Jennifer Crusie “”²Ō³śĆ» 3 4.17 2002 Faking It (Dempseys #2)

The Hobbit 6428445 J.R.R. Tolkien's fantasy masterpiece The Hobbit is a tale of high adventure, undertaken by a company of dwarves in search of dragon-guarded gold. A reluctant partner in this perilous quest is Bilbo Baggins, a comfort-loving unambitious hobbit, who surprises even himself by his resourcefulness and skill as a burglar. Encounters with trolls, goblins, dwarves, elves and giant spiders, conversations with the dragon, Smaug, and a rather unwilling presence at the Battle of the Five Armies are just some of the adventures that befall Bilbo. Bilbo Baggins has taken his place among the ranks of the immortals of children's fiction. Written by Professor Tolkien for his own children, The Hobbit met with instant critical acclaim when published.

Velveteen 13414964
The problem is she landed in purgatory. And while it’s not a fiery inferno, it’s certainly no heaven. It’s gray, ashen, and crumbling more and more by the day, and everyone has a job to do. Which doesn’t leave Velveteen much time to do anything about what’s really on her mind.

Bonesaw.

Velveteen aches to deliver the bloody punishment her killer deserves. And she’s figured out just how to do it. She’ll haunt him for the rest of his days.

It’ll be brutal... and awesome.

But crossing the divide between the living and the dead has devastating consequences. Velveteen’s obsessive haunting cracks the foundations of purgatory and jeopardizes her very soul. A risk she’s willing to take—except fate has just given her reason to stick around: an unreasonably hot and completely off-limits coworker.

Velveteen can’t help herself when it comes to breaking rules... or getting revenge. And she just might be angry enough to take everyone down with her.]]>

Eragon-author Christopher Paolini calls them, "Some of the most interesting dragons I've read in fantasy."

Four decades of peace have done little to ease the mistrust between humans and dragons in the kingdom of Goredd. Folding themselves into human shape, dragons attend court as ambassadors, and lend their rational, mathematical minds to universities as scholars and teachers. As the treaty's anniversary draws near, however, tensions are high.

Seraphina Dombegh has reason to fear both sides. An unusually gifted musician, she joins the court just as a member of the royal family is murdered—in suspiciously draconian fashion. Seraphina is drawn into the investigation, partnering with the captain of the Queen's Guard, the dangerously perceptive Prince Lucian Kiggs. While they begin to uncover hints of a sinister plot to destroy the peace, Seraphina struggles to protect her own secret, the secret behind her musical gift, one so terrible that its discovery could mean her very life.]]>

<![CDATA[Glass Houses (The Morganville Vampires, #1)]]> 5412266 260 Rachel Caine 110112850X “”²Ō³śĆ» 3 Why Glass Houses is a good book and you should give it a try

Let me start by giving thanks to my dear friend Alk who forced me to give this book a try. If it weren’t for her I wouldn’t have given this book a second glance. You can probably blame it on the cover and on all those negative reviews that are going around Å·±¦ÓéĄÖ.

Speaking of which, I need to clear out a few things. There are many people in my Å·±¦ÓéĄÖ friend list who absolutely love this book. And there are others who loathe the mere sight of it. Now, call me an asshole but I thought that the people who loved Morganville Vampires are overreacting, and that the ones who hate it are right to do so. What made me think so is the following quote:
"What normal girl loved physics? Abnormal ones. Ones who were not ever going to be hot. And face it, being hot? That was what life was all about."

It makes the MC sound like a total douche, doesn’t it? This quote can be found in the first chapter of the book. Do you see why so many people dropped it without a second thought? Do you? Well, I do. Let me give you a piece of advice. Go on with reading the book and you’ll find out why Claire, the MC, formed this thought in the first place. [spoilers removed] This is why you cannot take the above quote seriously. It’s exactly like the time you see your crush date the beautiful, yet stupid, girl in your class and wishing to trade your intelligence with beauty just so you would be in her place. Would you actually do it? Maybe. Personally, I wouldn’t. Did I ever have thoughts similar to this? Sure I did, I’m human after all. Anyways, back to my point. It seems a bit too harsh to judge Glass Houses according to this quote only.

Claire is one fucked up character, and I love her for it. I can already see her grow out of this awkward freakish skin she’s currently wearing. And oh gosh can Rachel Caine write her shit. The characters are deep, her story is fascinating and, from what I’ve heard, she’s awesome at creating atmospheric horror scenes. I did not encounter one of those scenes yet, but I can say that I’m looking forward to them.

And another thing. The ending. What. The. Hell. I’ve never had a cliffhanger as big as this one. I have no words. I can only say that I’m grateful for having the next book available, else I would end up strangling someone because of this frustration!

Would I recommend this to you? Well, it depends. Are you into Urban Fantasy? Do you care about your characters feeling real (no Mary Sues)? Do you shy away from violence and cruelty? Would you mind reading a long series? Morganville Vamps has all that, and more. So think carefully before making your decision. I, for one, liked it a lot. There were some parts of the story that dragged on a bit too much, but the rest was badass. I can’t wait to start book #2.

Oh, and one final thing before I end the review. Morganville Vampires has 13 published books, and 2 more that will be published in 2013. 15+ books?! Holy shit, that’s a shitload of books! I do hope that I’ll be able to reach book 15 without getting fed up with the series. Here’s to hoping!]]>

Molly Somerville loves her career as the creator of the Daphne the Bunny children's book series, but the rest of her life could use some improvement. She has a reputation for trouble that started even before she gave away her fifteen-million-dollar inheritance. Then there's her long-term crush on the quarterback for the Chicago Stars football team her sister owns—that awful, gorgeous Kevin Tucker, a man who can't even remember Molly's name!

One night Kevin barges into Molly's not-quite-perfect life and turns it upside down. Unfortunately, the Ferrari-driving riving, poodle-hating jock isn't as shallow as she wishes he were, and she soon finds herself at a place called Wind Lake. Surrounded by paintbox cottages, including a charming old bed-and-breakfast, Molly and Kevin battle their attraction and each other as they face one of life's most important lessons. Sometimes love hurts, sometimes it makes you mad as hell, and sometimes—if you're lucky—it can heal in a most unexpected way.]]>

In This Heart of Mine I got attached to Kevin even since the beginning. In the previous books from the series I always sided with the girls, especially since the guys were ass*s, buuuuut in this one I couldn’t help myself. Kevin is such a sweetheart and a charmer. Another wonderful story brought to us by Susan Elizabeth Phillips. I must say that the whole Chicago Stars series, so far at least, is amazing. This story was simple, but what made it great were the characters. She has great talent when creating fascinating characters, and this is one of the things I love most when reading her books.

And, if you remember me saying this in my previous reviews rants, the thing I love about MV is how short and fast-paced the books are. That’s why I could handle reading so many of them without getting bored. Black Dawn proved my point. The book is stuffed with extra info and extra POVs from various characters, some of them were completely unexpected (Hannah wtf?!), which added to the length of it. They also add extra drama which also bores the crap out of me.

And it was sooo painfully slooooow to read!! So unlike the previous MV books. Sad.

The score I’m going to give it will be a bit cruel. I really wanted to give it a perfect one but I can’t. It doesn’t compare to the previous ones. *prays* Please don’t ruin another series for me! I’ve already had a couple of them ruined this year.

I was wondering if Jeaniene Frost will manage to write a book that will kick ass even so deep into the Night Huntress series. Well, how to answer thatā€ This book kicks ass story-wise (even if it’s a bit forced) but character-wise it doesn’t.

The story was spooky and pretty awesome. The villain, Kramer, was a very good creation. Cruel and sadistic, he managed to get me angry a lot. Hell, that’s a good thing. Madigan was also a b*tch and I’m sure we’ll get more of him in the next books. I can’t help hating his guts. Ugh he was annoying.

I love Cat and Bones. They’re the best book couple in my opinion; they make such a great team. But I felt that in One Grave at a Time they were strange. Cat was ok, I didn’t mind her much, but Bones was in a really strange mood. They lacked that ā€œheatā€ that made them such a great couple. It seemed like they were old people being married for 20 years or something. They seemed so used to each other that everything they do together gets synchronized perfectly. That’s not a bad thing; I actually admire this in people. But in a book? Meh. A bit more ā€œspiceā€ please!

Ian was awesome! It was a delight seeing him make an appearance. Fingers crossed for a book dedicated to him.

I missed Vlad though. I can’t wait to get my hands on his book.

review:
Aaaaaah *smells the book* the sweet smell of one of my favorite drugs. I’m addicted to this series. And I have a major crush on Bones. There I said it! So imagine how excited I was about this. Hell I was counting down the days until it got released. *sigh* I kind of regret it now.

Much to her shock, Katniss has fueled an unrest she's afraid she cannot stop. And what scares her even more is that she's not entirely convinced she should try. As time draws near for Katniss and Peeta to visit the districts on the Capitol's cruel Victory Tour, the stakes are higher than ever. If they can't prove, without a shadow of a doubt, that they are lost in their love for each other, the consequences will be horrifying.

You may call me mean, or some other foul word, but when you start a series with an awesome book (aka The Hunger Games) you expect a mind-blowing sequel. Catching Fire is not the worst book out there, don’t worry about it. Some people may even call it amazing. I’m not one of those people.

The beginning of the book is not what I wanted. It was pretty dull, except for the accident Gale had. Plus the turn of events between Katniss and Peeta [spoilers removed] kind of ruined my mood. But thinking about it, I’m not really sure what I was expecting from the story. But I insist on this not being it. I still hope it gets fixed or something in Mockingjay.

And does Katniss have to be in the damn arena to have feelings for Peeta? Once she’s home she wants to run away with Gale and then OMG games part two and she gets all gladiator over Peeta. If you ask me both Gale and Peeta are too good for her. I’m actually waiting for her to die in the arena and get this thing over with. But wait! I see book three on the list. I guess there’s no dying now, is it? Too bad...

The repetitiveness of the book bothered me a lot. When they announced the second Hunger Games where the victors are the offerings, or whatever they’re called, I was like

What I must add to the hate list is the fact that the whole drama revolving around the story feels fake. Hell the story itself lacks the spark I got used to finding while reading The Hunger Games. And, as my friend Dee said, the ending was predictable. I didn’t get the OMG-WTF-how-could-this-be-tell-me-now-I-command-you reaction out of me. What I didn’t like about the book? The first half when it was a bit too passive for my taste. And some other minor details that I will highlight throughout my wonderful and most-serious review.

I find Ian amusing and fascinating at the same time. I have a thing for crazy people... Let’s not be cruel and call him crazyā€ He’s an artist. Eccentric and easily distracted. End of discussion. I respect the strength that he shows and his keen intelligence. I respect his pure heart. You have to admit he acts like a kid sometimes but it didn’t bother me. Much.

Ian Mackenzie is in fact an alien who came from outer space to teach humans how to evolve from their undeveloped state. He has the ability to learn every move just by staring at it once. He can pick up emotions with only one touch. But he has one problem. No, make it two problems. First of all, he is not capable of having feelings. This will prove as a hard test (pun intended if you may) when faced with the beautiful and fiery Beth Ackerley. His second problem is his sensitivity to porcelain, which can be considered both his strength and his weakness. Will Ian be able to hide his identity amongst humans? Will he be able to grow feelings for the insatiable Beth? Stay tuned for another episode of Porcelain-Man!

Porcelain-Man! He fights crime with lots of porcelain stuff!!! Nananananananana Porcelain-Man nananananannaa!!!!

I didn’t know how to react to Ian’s shopping spree (to call it this way). So let me get this straight. You go to the opera. You see hottie lady. You want to bed, as they say, the hottie lady. So you want to marry her in order to bed her. Am I right? Now let me put it another way. You go to the supermarket. You see a good promotion for beer. You want to drink beer badly. So you want to buy the beer in order to drink it. So what do you say? Do I have a case to present to the authorities in order to nail Ian for trying to buy the poor girl as a sex slave?

Why did I have the feeling that Beth was treating Ian like he is in fact crazy? She was way too nice to him and accepted marrying him without as much as an angry reaction. And speaking of anger, she had none. How can this be??? The book had so many moments where any human being would have steam blowing out of their ears. Her reaction? ā€œOh myā€ *pause* ā€œWhat are we having for dinner?ā€ *pause*. WTF?!? She’s either a saint (after the things she did that’s out of the question) or just considering Ian crazy. Which he is. Kinda. Shame on you Beth!! In the end, I still couldn’t decide whether I like or dislike her. I guess she’s one of those characters who’ll remain neutral to me.

Inspector Fellows is some piece of work. I imagine him having a tubby human body, short legs, and a rat’s face. And I mean an actual rat’s face. I like to keep myself entertained by imagining him going around the streets in a pale brown coat and holding a magnifying glass in front of his eyes. (Heh. At a point, Beth actually said Fellows resembles a rat! I’m good!)

Mather is also a comical character. I think they could make a comic book out of this. Oh wait!

Nananananananana Porcelain-Man nananananannaa!!!!

The brothers were also interesting. I can’t think of which I like best; I guess I have to read the other books to find out.

Before I got I must mention a few more things:

1. Why was Ian close to giving a porcelain bowl a blowjob. Is it just me? Was I imagining it?
2. Why do I have the need to break Ian’s balls bowls?
3. Am I the only one who finds Scottish accents hot?]]>

This book is good. All the reviews I saw for it were, to say it nicely, kissing its ass pretty badly. I get why everyone reacts this way. If you’re into the genre this would be a pretty big deal. If you’re not into the genre it will be from good to decent. Since I’m not into historical romance it was ok for me. It was nice that I actually had a nice and unpredictable story to enjoy. Add some interesting characters and a nice happy ending and you get a good result.

How can’t you love a book that starts like this?

Red-Headed Stepchild is one hell of a book. It’s fast-paced (I’m a sucker for fast-paced books), the heroine is wicked cool and the story freakinā€ awesome! Since this was a group read and I was the only one who loved it this much I guess my review will be totally subjective. My mood was perfect for it so I got lucky, I guess.

The story is nice. I found it really fun. The whole vamps have red hair was an interesting concept. Also, the story of Cain’s affair with Lilith was nicely put. Sabina being an assassin was another plus. I have a thing for assassins. They’re wicked cool.

My first impression of Sabina was that she’s cold-blooded, no joke. Killing her friend like that takes guts. Or lack of feelings. Or both. I can’t believe she’s ok about it.
*looks at David* "Ah yeah they told me to kill you"

"Wait what-"

"Yeah. Tough luck. Look we had some good times together but orders are orders" *pulls out gun and points at David’s head*

"Wait why are you-"

*pulls the trigger*

"Ah sh*t!" *looks at her watch* "I’m late for my manicure appointment"

I actually ended up loving Sabina. She’s cool, badass, brave, and a freakinā€ assassin (did I mention that she's an assassin?). How can’t I love her? Sure she’s a bit annoying at times but no one is perfect. Too bad she was slow to see she was being used. But I see this as being influenced by the love she has for her grandmother. I totally understand her behavior.

Adam Lazarus (f*ckin awesome name!) was hot but would have loved him to be tougher than this. Sabina and Adam together are so much fun. Their chemistry was good but nothing off the charts.

Giguhl (aka Mr. Giggles ā€ lol!) is so cool. He’s actually my favorite character so far. He’s so damn funny. When he turned into a talking cat I was on the floor laughing. Wish my cat could do that.
ā€œLet me out, you misbegotten daughter of Lilith!ā€ ā€œShut it, cat.ā€ I said. ā€œIt’s for your own good.ā€

That’s exactly what my cat was saying while I was trying to take her to the vet.

I couldn’t get myself to like Vinka (nymph pornstar ???). She’s too "bright" for my eyes to handle. [spoilers removed]

This book is a nice introduction to a story that has potential. If you see it like that you’ll surely like it. If you wish it to be another Fever or Night Huntress you’ll be disappointed.

Companions of the Night 9027526 The Edgar Award-winning author of Never Trust a Dead Man puts a terrifying spin on what should be a typical night in a small town.Sixteen-year-old Kerry has got a tough night ahead of her. What begins as a simple lost-and-found trip to the laundromat to rescue her little brother's stuffed koala bear turns into a nightmarish odyssey of murder, vampires, and--quite possibly--true love."Interview with a Vampire for the learner's permit set." --The Horn Book"A freshly written thriller, an offbeat love story, an engaging twist on the vampire novel, and an exciting tale of moral complexity . . . . Point [this] book at the Lois Duncan fans as well as Anne Rice followers, and get out of the way." --The Bulletin"[Vande Velde] is a master at taking traditional fairy-tale-like themes and making them fresh and totally unique. Companions of the Night . . . does that for the vampire story . . . . The narrative is tightly wound, keeping readers ready for excitement and action." --Emma Carbone, New York Public Library]]> 228 Vivian Vande Velde 0547416202 “”²Ō³śĆ» 3
In the future, be careful whom you rescue.

Companions of the Night is a pretty decent YA Paranormal Romance about a girl doing the right thing and getting in trouble because of it. More or less.

Is it like Twilight, you ask? No, rest assured, it’s not. It has character depth, no cheesiness (at least not too much cheesiness), and a pretty decent story. And think about it, the book is a bit over 200 pages long and yet offers so much more than the YA books I usually read. The advantage is that it doesn’t have enough time to overstay its welcome. I’m always a fan of that.

Another thing that I really liked is the author’s take on vampires. Here comes the metaphor I was talking about, the dark shadow. Kerry, the MC, rescues a vampire in distress. So far so corny. The dude is a teenager (meh) and pretty much kisses her ass for saving him.

"Wait! You mean that a vampire (super strength and all that) gets rescued by a mere teenage girl?! What the hell is this crap??!"

Well yeah. Duh, right? Super strength should have gotten the dude out of trouble.

"NOT IF IT WAS TWILIGHT!!"

And you are right again. But this is not Twilight. Vampires are evil and selfish. They only care about their well-being. They might be faking it.

"Oh."

And they might threaten to kill you. Abduct you. Force you to work for them and threaten to kill your family if you don’t comply.

"OH NO!"

Oh yes. This is how things go in Companions of the Night. And I love it. It makes sense. Ethan’s (the vamp) personality matched my image of vampires. I absolutely hate the usual meh vamps in Paranormal books. No, these are not nice people that happened to grow a fang or two. No, they don’t sparkle or eat animals because they are too ā€œkindā€ to kill people. No, they don’t stay virgins for 100 years nor want to have a relationship with the Mary Sue next door. They are vile cruel disgusting creatures that belong in your nightmares, not your sexual fantasies.

Unless.. you’re into that sorta thing. Which is fine by me. Whatever rocks your boat, stranger.

Anyways, I have two main things that I disliked about Companions of the Night.

One, the story was not creepy. I was expecting something else and I didn’t get it. Disappoint.

Two, the romance. I think I would have given it four stars if it wasn’t for the romance. It didn’t bother me since it took an incredibly small part of the book, say 20 pages or so, but I think the story would have been better without it.

If you ever have the possibility of reading this book, then take it. It’s a very fast and fun read. Should you buy it? Maybe if it has a discount, yes. Else try borrowing from someone.]]>

Omigosh I wanted this to be good. I wanted this to be good so badly. I wanted something creepy. Look at that cover! It sure looks like a creepy book. Creepy YA Romance. YA Romance generally sucks, I know, but look at the cover! How can’t that be awesome?!

Else try borrowing from someone.

Nah, hold your horses people, of course I’m not done. Of course I have to ramble about it for at least 15 minutes. That’s the way I work.

What is my problem you ask? First of all the story sucks balls. Yes, balls. Listen to this:

We have a little horseperson, Limos. She’s a badass warrior who dresses like a Hawaiian reject and always smells like coconut. I presume so far that even her sweat smells like coconut. I didn’t want to get into intimate details with this so let’s just stop with sweat. Ok, so she meets the hot dude Arik. He’s a human of course. You will never have two badass warriors hooking up; things would be too easy then. No fun in things being too easy. So after they kiss the dude ends up in Hell and gets tortured for a month. He escapes and forgives the chick just because she’s hot. Bla bla bla flirting oral sex bla bla bla. Then we find out that (I’ll put this in bold because it’s priceless) she is wearing a chastity belt and only her husband can remove it. The funny thing is that this is not the best part of it. Hold on, I’m getting to it. So apart from the chastity belt

we have the following: she is betrothed to Satan (yes, freakin Satan) and he wants her fresh and untouched. You guessed it right. UNTOUCHED. AKA a virgin. So she needs someone to take away her maidenhood and save her from being raped by Satan.

Ok so after you’ve read this what’s your opinion on Immortal Rider? I don’t know if I should laugh or cry. I mean this is a joke! I can’t process itā€ *facepalm*

Second (remember the first - up there somewhere), the characters suck. Limos is not my favorite horseman and Arik is justā€ meh. Nothing special about him, don’t like him don’t hate him. He just exists. Period.

There’s actually something I liked about Immortal Rider and if I’m not wrong I said this about Eternal Rider as well. I loved Wraith, Thanatos and (surprisingly) Regan. They’re the main reason for me not giving it two stars.

So the conclusion? I’m totally neutral about this. I won’t say I hate it because I still like Larissa Ione but it’s the last chance I’m giving her.]]>

<![CDATA[Second Grave on the Left (Charley Davidson, #2)]]> 11334463 Charley Davidson, Grim Reaper Extraordinaire, is back in this sexy, suspenseful novel of supernatural shenanigans.

When Charley is rudely awakened in the middle of the night by her best friend who tells her to get dressed quickly and tosses clothes out of the closet at her, she can’t help but wonder what Cookie’s up to. Leather scrunch boots with a floral miniskirt? Together? Seriously?

Cookie explains that a friend of hers named Mimi disappeared five days earlier and that she just got a text from her setting up a meet at a coffee shop downtown. They show up at the coffee shop, but no Mimi. But Charley finds a message on the bathroom wall. Mimi left a clue, a woman’s name. Mimi’s husband explains that his wife had been acting strange since she found out an old friend of hers from high school had been found murdered a couple weeks prior. The same woman Mimi had named in her message.

Meanwhile, Reyes Alexander Farrow (otherwise known as the Son of Satan. Yes. Literally) has left his corporeal body and is haunting Charley. He’s left his body because he’s being tortured by demons who want to lure Charley closer. But Reyes can’t let that happen. Because if the demons get to Charley, they’ll have a portal to heaven. And if they have a portal to heaven…well, let’s just say it wouldn’t be pretty.

Can Charley handle hot nights with Reyes and even hotter days tracking down a missing woman? Will Cookie ever get a true fashion sense? And is there enough coffee and chocolate in the world to fuel them as they do?

Here is your signpost for the most hilarious read of the summer: Second Grave On The Left]]>
318 Darynda Jones “”²Ō³śĆ» 3 ok, better than the previous book. At least it made me slightly interested and wasn’t so easily predictable. It ended up being silly, but what’s not silly in the Charley Davidson series?

Aaaaaaaand I can’t think of anything else I liked. Sad, really.

Now for the things that I didn’t like. The Reyes side of things. I found Second Grave on the Left to be too similar to the previous book. Yes, Charley’s off searching for Reyes again. Yes, Reyes isn’t helping. Yes, there’s a shitload of drama and running in circles. No, there’s no development in the hell-related side of things. Reyes was acting like a spoiled dick throughout the book. His shitty ass attitude certainly reduced his hotness. Charley and Reyesā€ relationship is too melodramatic. Meh. Really. Meh. I was bored out of my mind.

There were things that I kind of liked in this one. I’m having dĆ©jĆ vu, aren’t you? Anyways, I kind of liked Charley’s character development. I like that Reyes stopped helping her in dire situations and she was able to deal with her shit. Maybe she’ll become a badass heroine soon. Splintered (Splintered, #1) 15751540
Alyssa Gardner hears the whispers of bugs and flowers—precisely the affliction that landed her mother in a mental hospital years before. This family curse stretches back to her ancestor Alice Liddell, the real-life inspiration for Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Alyssa might be crazy, but she manages to keep it together. For now.

When her mother’s mental health takes a turn for the worse, Alyssa learns that what she thought was fiction is based in terrifying reality. The real Wonderland is a place far darker and more twisted than Lewis Carroll ever let on.

There, Alyssa must pass a series of tests, including draining an ocean of Alice’s tears, waking the slumbering tea party, and subduing a vicious bandersnatch, to fix Alice’s mistakes and save her family. She must also decide whom to trust: Jeb, her gorgeous best friend and secret crush, or the sexy but suspicious Morpheus, her guide through Wonderland, who may have dark motives of his own.]]>

I’m beginning to enjoy the madness. That’s not good. Not at all.

Long story short
Alyssa Gardner is the great-great-great-[lots of greats]-granddaughter of Alice Liddell, the girl who inspired Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland novel. Because of a curse that originates from Alice’s escape from Wonderland, Alyssa’s mother becomes insane and is committed into an asylum. Alyssa later finds out that there is a way of lifting this curse and saving her mother. All she has to do is follow the velvety voice that leads her back to Wonderland.

My thoughts
I was supposed to like Splintered. I was supposed to like it a lot. The bugs, the blood, the gore, the creatures. Everything is so similar to a video game called . However, as Alice Madness Returns, the book is rather disappointing.

I could tell that something is wrong with Splintered from the beginning. The concept of the book is amazing, and the execution is close to perfect. All is well except for this itch that keeps on bothering me while reading it. The good news is that I know what the itch is. Or itches, in our case. The characters.

Let’s start with Alyssa. She is my biggest Splintered-related itch. Why? Because, like many other young adult protagonists, she annoys the crap out of me. Theoretically I was supposed to like her. Skater girl, good morbid side, artist. However, her attitude does not work for me. Most of the times she’s acting like a brat, and then a miracle occurs and she becomes the wisest creature in Wonderland. This more than ruined the story for me.

Actually, thinking about it, there are no good female characters in this book. The lead, Alyssa, is a stuck-up teenager that is pretty much annoying all the time. The soon-to-be-ex-girlfriend bitch, Taelor, who’s a mean asshole most of the times. The crazy mum who is.. well.. crazy all the time. And some other secondary characters who don’t get much development. They are evil, jealous, manipulative. No positives whatsoever.

And now the male characters. We get the best friend, Jeb, who's always treating Alyssa like a baby. He is sticking with his girlfriend because - oh noes! - he loves Alyssa too much. Fuck logic. He’s also a douche most of the times, ordering her around, taking decisions for her and all that. Meh.

Then we have the supernatural moth boy, Morpheus, who’s keen on bedding Alyssa the moment she steps into the same room as him. He’s also busy using her all the time, plotting and being a villain. Then he almost dies and all is forgiven.

But hold on kids! There is, in fact, a good male character in the book. Her father. I really liked him, even though Howard didn’t bother with developing him too much. Even so, I think he can be considered a decent character.

Back to our three main characters. Did you notice something? One girl and two boys. Do you know what this means?

Oh yes, my friends. A love triangle.

The typical Young Adult love triangle. The human boy versus the dark sexy Mothman.

As much as I love myself a sexy Mothman, the love triangle bugs (heh) the hell out of me. I feel like it’s taking away the dark feel of the story. Hell, it ruined the damn book for me. I hate hate hate HATE love triangles and this was an extremely frustrating one. Why? This is why:
Jeb is stable, strong, and genuine—my knight in shining armor. Morpheus is selfish, unreliable, and transcendent—chaos incarnate. Impossible to compare. Yet here I am, all of those things. Both light and dark at the same time. If I were to give in to one side of me, would that mean I’d have to give up the other? My heart aches at the possibility. Somehow I feel like I need both to be complete.

She is constantly jumping from one guy to another. And, of course, both of them will do anything to please the little plum. They will even die for her. They constantly snarl, growl and wave Alyssa around at each other. Next thing you know they’ll be having a pissing contest in order to see who will end up with the little Mary Sue. Ugh. Just cut the crap and focus with the story please!

Another problem I have, and this is a minor one so feel free to ignore it, is related A.G. Howard’s writing style. She is going for an extremely complex concept, and her style is a bit too simple for it. See, for example, or , both authors having amazing writing styles. I think their style would match the dark Wonderland theme better than Howard’s.

To buy or not to buy?
Splintered is between the best Alice in Wonderland related books I’ve read so far. Howard did an amazing job with the concept of a dark and disturbing Wonderland. The story is captivating and offers a good plot twist at the end. It also offers an extremely frustrating love triangle and undeveloped characters that spoil the magic of the story. If you can ignore these negative elements, then you should totally give Splintered a try.]]>

If you can ignore these negative elements, then you should totally give Splintered a try.

<![CDATA[The Immortal Rules (Blood of Eden, #1)]]> 13512392
To survive in a ruined world, she must embrace the darkness

Allison Sekemoto survives in the Fringe, the outermost circle of a walled-in city. By day, she and her crew scavenge for food. By night, any one of them could be eaten. Some days, all that drives Allie is her hatred of them, the vampires who keep humans as blood cattle. Until the night Allie herself dies and becomes one of the monsters.

Forced to flee her city, Allie must pass for human as she joins a ragged group of pilgrims seeking a legend, a place that might have a cure for the disease that killed off most of civilization and created the rabids, the bloodthirsty creatures who threaten human and vampire alike. And soon Allie will have to decide what, and who, is worth dying for…again.

Enter Julie Kagawa's dark and twisted world as an unforgettable journey begins.

484 Julie Kagawa 1459227042 “”²Ō³śĆ» 3 The Immortal Rules seems to be one of those books prone to becoming popular and getting only great reviews. I was afraid I might end up between the small percentages of people not liking it. This is what usually happens when I read a very well rated book. I expect too much, and I end up feeling unsatisfied and hating the book. So I tried my best not to expect anything and just jump in blindly. I didn’t read any reviews. I didn’t even read the summary properly.

The Immortal Rules is divided into four parts. Part 1 - Human, part 2 Vampire, part 3 Monster and part 4 Wanderer. My favorite parts were one and two. They were dark, cruel and very real.

Allie is a magnificent heroine. She is strong, mature and intelligent even though her living conditions are horrid. She is not your typical Young Adult heroine. She does not have a happy life, a house to live in, food on her table every night. She never even went to school. And yet all of these things shaped her into what she is: a veritable leader. Allie’s metamorphosis into a vampire is very detailed and extremely well done. It is the book’s strongest point and my favorite thing about it.

Another very good point about The Immortal Rules is the charactersā€ depth. You can hardly find a shallow one. Personally, I wasn’t bothered by any character in particular but Zeke. I felt that his goodness was a bunch of bull but, after reading ahead and finding out more about him, I finally understood his attitude. He grew on me and in the end he won my respect. I still don’t see Allie sharing her life with a mere mortal though. I’m curious to see where their relationship is heading.

When I reached Part 3, my excitement started to drop. It got slightly better as the story went on, but it didn’t turn out the way I wanted it to. I hoped that Allie was going to be on her own. The fact that she stumbled upon the human group bothered me because this is the typical way post-apocalyptic stories go. I wanted something different, more from the vampire point of view and not from the human one.

I am aware that we are getting a full-on vampire point of view, duh, since Allie is a vamp herself but that’s not what I meant. I’m talking about vampire society. Ranks, kings, maybe a bit of politics. However, I guess that heading in this direction would require a change of the book’s genre. Nevertheless, it didn’t bother me so much. The story is very interesting. There are lots of action-packed moments, a bit of romance. A bit of everything I guess.

My problem is that I got bored while reading it. I kept on glancing at the progress wishing 50% was actually 80%, trying to figure out why I’m not making progress, wishing for things to pick up.

I see why so many people loved it. At least it’s a good quality book unlike other more popular ones *cough*twilightfiftyshadesofgreysweetevil*cough*

That’s a long cough. It could get even longer if you insist.

Even so, it’s not my cup of tea. Well, calling it ā€œnot my cup of teaā€ would be unfair. It’s my cup but it sure could use a bit of honey. If you manage to get your hands on a copy give it a try, why not.]]>

When I started Fancy Pants I had something in mind. A bit of comedy, a feisty heroine and a jackass hero. Hell, the typical Susan Elizabeth Phillips stuff. *excitement excitement*

Soooo I was reading and reading. Strange things going on. Nothing like the Susan Elizabeth Phillips books I’ve read so far. But the eternal believer in me knew the good stuff was coming. And then I stumbled into this:
ā€œAnything in life was permissible ā€ as long as she looked pretty doing it.ā€

Aaaand this:
ā€œI’m worried about you, Mummy. There are circles under your eyes, and you look tired all the time. You’ve also been impossible to live with. Only yesterday you brought home the beige Givenchy kimono for me instead of the silver one I asked you to get.ā€

*awkward silence*

I hated Francesca’s guts, as you can imagine. And Dallie... Despite being a Brad Pitt lookalike, being cool and funny, being an ass to Francesca (whom I still hated) he ended up being a big ol asshole.

It felt nice growing up with Francesca. I got to hate her, admire her and in the end love her. It felt intimate and wonderful.

Gerry is awesome; loved him. He was my favorite character. Teddy is great too. A silent killer, I have to respect that. I even ended up liking Holly Grace. Imagine that!

The book was oozing drama so I have to admit this is not one of Susan Elizabeth Phillips best. I like her books to be a bit lighter than this. I was thinking of giving it three stars but the ending deserves an extra one.]]>

This book was like a carrousel ride for me. It had so many ups and downs that by the end I didn’t know what to think of it. I started with lots of hatred towards the main characters and bit by bit I got to love some. Others.. well they constantly sucked. Yes Dallie, I’m talking about you.

Ohkay, now here’s a new one. This was supposed to be a challenge of some sort. Most of my Å·±¦ÓéĄÖ buds read this book and are torn between two sides. They either hate the living hell out of it, or love it with the power of a thousand suns. Except for , who doesn’t love it nor hate it. She’s a special snowflake, that one.

I’ll be totally honest with you. I was expecting to end up between the people who hate it. I’ve read a couple of quotes for it and they were cheesy as fuck. I still went on with the challenge for the sake of the lols. Evil, wtf were you thinking Darynda Jones, lols. Surprisingly, I actually liked it, smelly cheese and all. Weird, huh? Let’s find out why.

I need to mention that I didn’t love it, I merely liked it. There were many things that I didn’t like, and they’re mostly story-related. I didn’t like the main story. It’s not that it’s bad, I’ve read way worse, but it’s very dull. There was nothing there to impress me. Sure, I like the idea of Charley being able to see ghosts and solve their murders. I like her being ā€œa portal for the dead to cross overā€, that part was kind of new. But the rest? Been there, done that. It’s a pretty typical Urban Fantasy plot. That’s the main reason why I can’t say that I loved the book. Universe-wise.. well, there’s not much to say since we didn’t have much interaction with ā€œthe other sideā€.

The gold in this one is on the charactersā€ side. I absolutely loved most of the characters in this book. The secondary ones, Charley’s dad, uncle, Cookie and Garrett weren’t so bad. Charley and Reyes (the main characters), on the other hand, were loads of fun.

Charley is a cheesy ass woman. And trust me when I say cheesy I mean as cheesy as they get. She’s the reason why my compadres couldn’t go on with the book. Let me give you some examples.
I once signed up for an anger management class, but the instructor pissed me off.

Or
I pointed to my right breast. ā€œThis is Danger.ā€ Then my left. ā€œAnd this is Will Robinson. I would appreciate it if you addressed them accordingly.ā€
After a long pause in which he took the time to blink several times, he asked, ā€œYou named your breasts?ā€
I turned my back to him with a shrug. ā€œI named my ovaries, too, but they don’t get out as much.

Or my personal fave (which I’m going to print on a Tshirt one day)
When fighting clowns, always go for the juggler.

Yes, that’s pretty much how Charley talks. She does that a lot. And I mean a lot. I wasn’t so comfortable with it in the beginning, but later on I got used to it, and even started to giggle at her jokes. By the end of the book I loved the woman. She is something else.

And then there’s Reyes. Hooo boi.

Not likely. Not likely at all.]]>
385 Susan Elizabeth Phillips “”²Ō³śĆ» 3 Call Me Irresistible will be the best book in the Wynette, Texas series. Ted is amazing, I love him and it will ROCK! It will rock so hard the planet will shake, craters will appear everywhere and swallow all those people who hate this book. Craters will cleanse all the urban areas out there so that more trees will grow and we can have more paper in order to print more Call Me Irresistible books! And we will create a religion that reads this book non-stop. We will explore Mars (more thoroughly, those NASA bitches can’t do anything right) and find the Perfect Human Creator 3000 the aliens forgot to take when they got bored of waiting for good music on MTV. Then using the Perfect Human Creator 3000 we will create a perfect clone of Ted. He will be the next Messiah and will bless us with his wisdom and hotness. Forever!

If I could go back in time and slap my past self over the head for having those expectations regarding Call Me Irresistible I would.

Saying that I’m disappointed by this book would be an understatement. What the hell was this story? Can someone please tell me? What the hell happened to Ted? Nah, let's not call him Ted. New Jesus (a halo?? Really??)? Nah, too good. Mayor Dickhead? Perfect. So what happened to Mayor Dickhead? He was such a cute kid in whatever, the previous books ā€ forgot the names. And now he’s freakinā€ Medusa’s blow up doll. Hard-headed, heartless and boring as hell.

Did I mention that he’s a total asshole to Meg? Let me quote the dear ass:
He pointed one long finger in the general direction of her head. ā€œYou’d better be ready at seven on Friday night because that’s when I’m picking you up. And don’t expect to see me before then because I have business in Santa Fe. And I’m not calling, either. I have more important things to do than argue with a crazy woman.ā€

Meg, the only character I respect, gets treated like a stray dog throughout the book by Mayor Dickhead and his town of minions. My message to all you mindless pricks is the following

We also have a reunion in this book. A huge amount of characters from the previous Wynette books are here. And they all are either ignorant, cruel, total bitches or assholes. All those wonderful characters I used to love are gone. Poof! Just like that. One book and all my respect is gone.

Aaand, what else do we have? *scratches her chin* Oh yeah! Golf. Want to know my opinion on golf? I’ll quote my good friend George Carlin on this one.
Plenty of good land in nice neighborhoods, land that is currently being wasted on a meaningless, mindless activity engaged in primarily by white, well-to-do male businessmen who use the game to get together to make deals to carve this country up a little finer among themselves.

It is an arrogant game on its very design alone. Just the design of the game speaks of arrogance. Think of how big a golf course is. The ball is that fucking big! What do these pinheaded pricks need with all that land? There are over 17,000 golf courses in America. They average over 150 acres apiece. That's 3 million plus acres, 4,820 square miles. You could build two Rhode Islands and a Delaware for the homeless, on the land currently being wasted on this meaningless, mindless, arrogant, elitist, racist - there's another thing: the only blacks you'll find in country clubs are carrying trays - and a boring game. Boring game for boring people. Have you ever watched golf on television? It's like watching flies fuck.

And a mindless game, mindless. Think of the intellect it must take to draw pleasure from this activity: hitting a ball with a crooked stick, and then walking after it! And then, hitting it again! I say, "Pick it up asshole, you're lucky you found the fucking thing. Put it in your pocket and go the fuck home, you're a winner. You're a winner. You found it!"

ā€˜Nuff said.

Lucy’s story seems like loads of fun. I mean Panda?? Really?? Who the hell goes around calling himself Panda??

Oh wait.

review:
Call Me Irresistible will be the best book in the Wynette, Texas series.

My lungs expanded beneath his weight. When I exhaled he sucked my breath in and his weight turned from cold marble into warm living flesh. Since accepting a teaching position at remote Fairwick College in upstate New York, Callie McFay has experienced the same disturbingly sensual dream every A mist enters her bedroom, then takes the shape of a virile, seductive stranger who proceeds to ravish her in the most toe-curling, wholly satisfying ways possible. Perhaps these dreams are the result of her having written the bestselling book The Sex Lives of Demon Lovers. Callie’s lifelong passion is the intersection of lurid fairy tales and Gothic literature—which is why she’s found herself at Fairwick’s renowned folklore department, living in a once-stately Victorian house that, at first sight, seemed to call her name. But Callie soon realizes that her dreams are alarmingly real. She has a demon lover—an incubus—and he will seduce her, pleasure her, and eventually suck the very life from her. Then Callie makes another startling Her incubus is not the only mythical creature in Fairwick. As the tenured witches of the college and the resident fairies in the surrounding woods prepare to cast out the demon, Callie must accomplish something infinitely more difficult—banishing this supernatural lover from her heart.ā€œVivid and enchanting . . . But the cover was pretty great and the summary made it sound pretty good. I'll be honest, this ended up a wonderful surprise. The story was amazing!

Demon Lover has a bit of a fairytale-ish feel to it. Fall in love, break the spell, get married, live happily ever after with your 5 kids, 2 dogs, three cats and a pet hamster. I’m a sucker for these stories, so I was having the time of my life, as you can imagine. This lasted for about 25% of the book, the rest ending up mediocre.

I’m so angry that the book didn’t continue on the Road of Awesomeness it walked on at the beginning. I can still see the scene in front of the house, heavy rain falling down and Callie seeing the beautiful demon’s face between the droplets. It got stuck to my mind. *sighs*

But back to reality. Why am I so disappointed? Good question. The book got into too many details. It made me feel like I’m watching Lost again (and I’m not happy about this, trust me). So many mysteries and very few answers. All this made me feel confused and close to getting a headache.

Callie was a normal heroine. Nothing much was standing out with her. I didn’t love nor hate her. I actually find it difficult to make an opinion on her, how strange is that? Liam (duh) and Ralph (yes, I’m talking about the mouse) are my favorite characters.

Thinking about it, I didn’t actually fall in love with any character in the book. I either liked them or was having neutral feelings towards them. I was excited about the incubus at the beginning but since the story morphed into something else he was gone.

Some characters were nice but some seemed like filler. Probably there will be more books to come and they will have an important part in them I imagine.

The ending made the book earn an extra star. It was too much of a tease but it made me want to read the next book. I guess I’ll be keeping an eye on this series.]]>
