A black swan is a highly improbable event with three principal characteristics: It is unpredictable; it carries a massive impact; and, after the fact, we concoct an explanation that makes it appear less random, and more predictable, than it was. The astonishing success of Google was a black swan; so was 9/11. For Nassim Nicholas Taleb, black swans underlie almost everything about our world, from the rise of religions to events in our own personal lives.

Why do we not acknowledge the phenomenon of black swans until after they occur? I gave 4 stars at the beginning but I change to just 3 now.
The book is good to get into such topics especially if you have some questions in mind and you are looking for answers. After all what is better than looking at the history and experiences of other Nations?

That is where the book excel at in my opinion; rich in history of many countries, from South America to Africa and good at explaining the main idea by detailing the history of some countries.

But the book just gets very repetitive after a while and there are no new information to absorb other than some history facts.

Also the writer seems to only focus on parts of history that matches his idea while ignoring the other parts... which is not very credible in my opinion.

All in all I think this was a good book to read just not what I expected. For everyone who is hesitant to read I'd say go for it but always keep in mind that this is just one of many ideas that try to explain the simple question "why Nations fail"
