Oh god, I was so excited for this one especially after all the fuss of it and the recommendations I got, telling me they were similar to Throne of Glass series (my favourites) but it was like a bucket of cold water thrown over me. I receved such praises for these series and it's author so I was expecting much much more than I got. Sadly, I can't even compare TOG to these series.

I'm giving this book three stars probably because it has some creativity in it, but the full potential is not actually there. I liked the castes of the Grisha people and how it was all thought out with their magic, everyone has to wear a certain colour and so on but...

The main character was too simple for me. Frail Alina had no idea where her head was most of the time and her desicions and thoughts were changing like the seasons. You would think that someone with her kind of power would at least feel a bit more responsible now that she knows she has it and what awaits her in the future. It's a big contradiction to the story because it's not about a warrior girl who is trying to find out what exactly she could do, but more towards those god-there's-a-dark-guy-who-likes-me-what-do-I-do kind of characters. It's ³¦±ô¾±³¦³óé. Don't get me wrong, I'm all about romance but we're talking about a fantasy book and that element should be the main one. The whole storyline loses focus informing too much about bitchy nobles and all wimpy feelings of Alina. Get a grip girl!

And speaking of the dark guy! Darkling was honestly the most exciting character of this book. He lives up to his name, wearing black clothes and has this dangerous, sexy vibe around him. Then there's the best friend Mel, who is safe and sensible and...yeah. A bit of a love triangle, I suppose.

Another thing I would like to mention was the Slavonic language in this book. It was simply laughable and I could NOT let this go. As a person who comes from one of these countries and knows these languages, it was just used really tasteless. And let me tell you for sure they are NOT dead languages nor types of dialects as presented once or twice in the book. I'm going to leave it at that.
