Hello, reading slump! Will Grayson, Will Grayson invited me here. | Levithan'in okuduğum dördüncü, Green'in ise ikinci kitabı ancak hiç sevemedim. Sırf tadını çıkartmak için orijinal dilinde okumaya başladım ama yüz elli sayfa ancak dayanabildim. (Bu yüz elli sayfada kurgu açısından dişe dokunur sadece bir olay oldu ve buraya kadarını beş cümlede özetleyebilirim!) İlla olumlu bir şey söyleyecek olsaydım, Green'in Tiny Cooper'ından bahsederdim. Levithan gibi ben de bu karakteri onun yerine Green'in yaratmış olmasına şaşırdım. (Kesinlikle Levithan tarzı bir çocuktu.) Yine de kitabı okumamı sağlamaya yetmeyen bir yan karakter olarak kaldı. Nadiren kitapları yarıda bırakırım ama bir cümlede anlatılacak rastgele bir fikri sanki çok mühimmiş gibi birçok cümleyle uzun uzadıya, detaylıca, etraflıca anlatan ve şu anda susmalarını istediğim bu karakterleri rafa kaldırıyorum. = )

Kitabın çarpıcı giriş bölümünde panayırda gördüğümüz Owen Harper'ın çocuk aklında sonsuza dek yer edecek bir trajediyi okuyoruz. Hemen ardından yıllar sonrasına yolculuk yapıyor ve Owen'ın hem yeni kapı komşusu hem de yeni okul arkadaşı olan Kensington'ın ağzından öykünün günümüzde geçen kısımlarını okumaya başlıyoruz.

Bu hikayede Kensington'la Owen neredeyse nefretten aşka giden bir yolu takip ediyorlar. Araları bir çok sıcak, bir çok soğuk. Örneğin; birbirlerine ısınmaya başladıkları sırada Owen kasabada yine panayır kurulacağını öğreniyor ve buharlaşıyor. Kendini tekrar gösterdiğinde ise kucağında bir kız oluyor. Kensington elbette öfkeleniyor ve Owen'a tavır alıyor ancak bu olayın hemen ertesinde arkadaşlarıyla panayıra gittiğinde Owen'ı da orada bulunca hiçbir şey olmamış gibi flört etmeye başlıyorlar.

Owen, şu bildiğiniz kötü çocuklardan biri ve bildiğiniz diğer tüm kötü çocuklar gibi onun da kötülüğünün illa ki sebebi var. Çok içki içmesinin, yasadığı yarışlara katılıp deliler gibi hız yapmasının, okulu kırmasının, sürekli farklı farklı kızlarla birlikte olmasının, hakkında çıkan ve yalanlamadığı onca kötü dedikodunun... Evet, hepsinin bir sebebi, bir mazereti var. Kensington zamanla bunları bir bir öğreniyor ve onun "aslında söylendiği kadar kötü olmadığına" karar veriyor. Tabii ki bu formülün üzerinden giderek "page turner" yaratabilen yazarlar da gördük. (Akla bu noktada Abbi Glines geliyor.) Ancak kitabın tek sorunu bu değil.

Yazar, kitapta bir anda birçok şeye parmak basmak istenmiş: Zihinsel hastalık, uyuşturucu bağımlılığı, toplumdan dışlanan insanlar, fakirlik/zenginlik, yeni bir hayata adapte olma süreci, ilk deneyimler ve fazlasıyla aile draması. Buradan bakınca yazar akla gelebilecek her şeyden birer tutam serpiştirmek istemiş gibi duruyor. Bir dünya konuya değinme ihtiyacı kitapta “overstuffed� hissi yaratmış.

Bir de kitabın büyük çoğunluğunda hitap ettiği kesim kesinlikle lise gençliğiyken cinsellikle ilgili detaylı sahneler kitabın tonunu tamamen değiştiriyor ve tam olarak kime hitap ettiğini sorgulatıyor. YA ve NA arasında bir yerlerde sıkışıp kalmış gibi duruyor.

Kitabın çarpıcı giriş bölümünde panayırda gördüğümüz Owen Harper'ın çocuk aklında sonsuza dek yer edecek bir trajediyi okuyoruz. Hemen ardından yıllar sonrasına yolculuk yapıyor ve Owen'ın hem yeni kapı komşusu hem de yeni okul arkadaşı olan Kensington'ın ağzından öykünün günümüzde geçen kısımlarını okumaya başlıyoruz.

Bu hikayede Kensington'la Owen neredeyse nefretten aşka giden bir yolu takip ediyorlar. Araları bir çok sıcak, bir çok soğuk. Örneğin; birbirlerine ısınmaya başladıkları sırada Owen kasabada yine panayır kurulacağını öğreniyor ve buharlaşıyor. Kendini tekrar gösterdiğinde ise kucağında bir kız oluyor. Kensington elbette öfkeleniyor ve Owen'a tavır alıyor ancak bu olayın hemen ertesinde arkadaşlarıyla panayıra gittiğinde Owen'ı da orada bulunca hiçbir şey olmamış gibi flört etmeye başlıyorlar.

Owen, şu bildiğiniz kötü çocuklardan biri ve bildiğiniz diğer tüm kötü çocuklar gibi onun da kötülüğünün illa ki sebebi var. Çok içki içmesinin, yasadığı yarışlara katılıp deliler gibi hız yapmasının, okulu kırmasının, sürekli farklı farklı kızlarla birlikte olmasının, hakkında çıkan ve yalanlamadığı onca kötü dedikodunun... Evet, hepsinin bir sebebi, bir mazereti var. Kensington zamanla bunları bir bir öğreniyor ve onun "aslında söylendiği kadar kötü olmadığına" karar veriyor. Tabii ki bu formülün üzerinden giderek "page turner" yaratabilen yazarlar da gördük. (Akla bu noktada Abbi Glines geliyor.) Ancak kitabın tek sorunu bu değil.

Yazar, kitapta bir anda birçok şeye parmak basmak istenmiş: Zihinsel hastalık, uyuşturucu bağımlılığı, toplumdan dışlanan insanlar, fakirlik/zenginlik, yeni bir hayata adapte olma süreci, ilk deneyimler ve fazlasıyla aile draması. Buradan bakınca yazar akla gelebilecek her şeyden birer tutam serpiştirmek istemiş gibi duruyor. Bir dünya konuya değinme ihtiyacı kitapta “overstuffed� hissi yaratmış.

Bir de kitabın büyük çoğunluğunda hitap ettiği kesim kesinlikle lise gençliğiyken cinsellikle ilgili detaylı sahneler kitabın tonunu tamamen değiştiriyor ve tam olarak kime hitap ettiğini sorgulatıyor. YA ve NA arasında bir yerlerde sıkışıp kalmış gibi duruyor.

Açıkçası bu kitabı okurken yazılan satıları raflardaki rakiplerinden ayıracak ve üstün kılacak pek bir tat bulamadım.

The surrounding atmosphere of the book is highly intriguing, since it mostly takes place in the dark ages. It is when women were considered to be weaker beings, in need of protection by strong ones (men), whereas beauty was considered to be something wicked and even hell bound that should be treated with caution. And, for instance; if a woman seemed a little bit strong and independent, if she could not cope with the ever going insults and kinds of violence, she would be considered as a servant of the devil, therefore a witch. How unfair!

Kovulmuş melek olsun ya da olmasın hayatının aşkı odur. Kökenleri ve kaderleri, birbirlerine düşman olmalarını gerektirse de Nora, Patch'e sırtını dönmeyecektir fakat ikisi de son bir tehlikeyle yüzleşmek için güçlerini toplamalıdır. Hank ölmüştür ve istemeden de olsa Nefilim ırkının lideri olan Nora onun başlattığı işi bitirmek zorundadır. Bu da kovulmuş melekleri, yani Patch'i yok etmesi gerekeceği anlamına gelmektedir. Böyle bir şeyin olmasına asla izin vermeyeceğinden, Patch'le birlikte bir plan yapar. Amaçları savaşı daha başlamadan bitirmektir.

Fakat bazen en iyi hesaplanan planlar bile ters gidebilmektedir. Nora yeni görevine alışmaya çalışırken hiç beklemediği bir şekilde, bağımlılık yapıcı bir güce kapılmaktan kendini alıkoyamaz.

Savaş hatları çizilirken Nora ve Patch hangi tarafta yer alacaktır? Aralarındaki farklılıklarla yüzleşirken bunları ya görmezden gelecek ya da uğruna savaştıkları sevginin yok olmasına sebep olacaklardır. Nora Greyin hayatı mükemmellikten hâlâ çok uzaktadır. Hayatına kastedilmiş olması hoş bir deneyim olmasa da en azından bu durumun içinden bir koruyucu melek sahibi olarak çıkmıştır. Gizemli, çekici ve muhteşem bir koruyucu melek. Ama Noranın hayatındaki yerine rağmen, Patchin hareketleri kesinlikle meleksi değildir. Hatta her zamankinden daha anlaşılmaz görünmektedir;
tabii bu mümkünse.


Hayatındaki gerçeklerin ne olduğunu umutsuzca öğrenmek isteyen Nora, cevaplara ulaşabilmek için kendisini giderek tehlikeli hale gelen durumların içerisine sokar. Ama belki de bazı şeyler olduğu gibi bırakılmalıdır, zira gerçek, güven duyduğu her şeyi ve herkesi yok edebilir.
