A Little Life is one of the most elegant, consuming, enveloping, gut-wrenching stories I have ever encountered. The catalyst of the story is the relationship of four college roommates as they try to make it in the real world that is New York City. However, as it follows them throughout decades, it becomes so much more than that. It is a story about trauma and recovery, about regression and healing, about love and hate, about friendship and romance, about family and strangers, about loyalty and betrayal, and it its core, it is about being a human being. The people, their lives, their hopes, their dreams, their grief, all of it is painted so painstakingly and vividly that I felt that if I went to Lispenard Street, or Greene Street, or Cambridge, or anywhere else, I'd find these characters chatting around a table, or maybe crying in a bathroom, are watching a movie on the sofa.

A friend of mine, when I told her I would be reading this book, said she was obsessed and enthralled and couldn't put it down. But she also warned my that it went on and on, that it could be one hundred pages shorter than it is. But I disagree. After all, this book is, as the title suggests, about a little life. And life, as many of us know, goes on and on. For some of us that is a blessing, it is the chance for opportunity, for memories, for joy. But for others, the idea of life as they live it going on and on is a nightmare. Life is a life sentence. And so, those of us who live life as if it something to be cherished should honor that we are fortunate enough to do so, and we should also learn, as many of the characters here do, to treat everyone with kindness. And to know that friendship is just as special, just as deep of a connection, as romance or parenthood or anything in between. Being a friend is enough. In fact, it is often the best and most important thing.

Feyre and Rhys are just like honestly... they're a lot. It's a lot. I don't even really know what I can say about them that will truly convey my feelings. Actually you know what? There is nothing. So what I'm saying is that I have too much to say so I can't say anything. Take that as you will.

Plot wise, I on the edge of my seat. Like with A Court of Mist and Fury, I read this book in under 24 hours. And like yes, a large part of that was due to my sheer attachment to the characters, but also 700 page books with bad plots aren't read in a day. Everything that was supposed to feel high stakes felt high stakes. There were literally like eight big plot twists, all of which had me shocked. And though I was able to predict some revelations beforehand, they all earned that (in a good way) because they left the right clues, and I am just too obsessive not to pick up on them. I am beyond thankful that there will be spinoffs because I think I would die if I never got to hear anything about my wonderful, sweet, pure, dreamer children again.
