My Three Dogs 203925068 My Three Dogs is a charming and heartfelt new novel from the #1 bestselling author of A Dog's Purpose, about humankind's best, most loyal friend, and a wonderful adventure of love and finding home.

When a tragic accident separates three dogs from their human, they find themselves up for adoption -- separately. But Riggs, an Australian Shepherd with a heart of gold, refuses to see his family torn apart. After the exuberant and fun-loving doodle Archie and quick-witted Jack Russell Luna are taken to new homes, Riggs' powerful herding instincts send him on a journey to bring his pack back together again.

Cameron's signature style shines in this whirlwind of a novel that showcases how determination, instinct, and love can make a family whole once more.]]>

But this book rates right up there in the Cameron Pantheon of great books. He's back to his sweet spot of writing better than any living author from the point of view of a dog.

Except this time he's upped the game, because he's writing from the point of view of three VERY DIFFERENT dogs. And the insight that gives you into how a pack works is so delightful, and heartwarming, and in the case of this book with its many plot twists, suspenseful.

I love a book that keeps you guessing, and boy did this one ever do that. And honestly, the way a book ends is everything for me, and this one has one of the best, most heart-meltingly satisfying endings ever.

It also has one superiorly hate-able villain, which is another element I love.

I'm blessed that I'm enough in the loop that I was able to download a digital ARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review of this book.

One word of advice: Don't start it late at night if you expect to be able to function the next day. A 3:00 a.m. bedtime is so not my friend, but I HAD TO FINISH THIS AMAZING BOOK.

It won't come as a surprise to anyone who knows me that I FREAKING LOVED THIS BOOK. Look, I'm a lifer when it comes to W. Bruce Cameron, and that's not just for his dog books, his book Emory's Gift is a masterpiece, and I might even love it more than the book that hooked me into his cult in the first place, A Dog's Purpose, which I got as an ARC from my friend, not long after the death of my beloved pug.

<![CDATA[I'm Still Here: A Dog's Purpose Forever]]> 207294819 This richly illustrated book reveals a comforting narrative told from the point of view of a loving angel dog, who wants you to know, “I’m still here . . . But I’m also there where all the animals run free, with no pain, waiting for you, watching for you, loving you, and guiding you.

Losing one’s dog is one of the most difficult experiences we go through and it’s hard to find solace. However, the profound, four-leggedĚýnarrator of I’m Still Here has nothing but good news for humans. The free verse is equally rhapsodic about the eternal nature of our souls and the amazing sound of crinkly wrappers that means cheese is about to be sliced. This very good dog proclaims that love never dies, that we will meet again, and that if you ever doubted that humans are magnificent creatures, look no further than the humble ball.

There is nothing to fear, because it is this dog’s purpose to pull you (like a bad dog who doesn’t know how to do “leash) toward joy, and to remind you to relish all the naps and treats life has to offer.

Author Cathryn Michon co-wrote the blockbuster hit film A Dog’s Purpose.ĚýElegant, full-color watercolor paintings by award-winning artist Seth Taylor make this sumptuous volume the perfect gesture of compassion for anyone who has ever said goodbye to a dog (or person) gone too soon, because it’s always too soon. It turns out that the best way to honor those we’ve loved and lost is to be here now, until we meet again.]]>

In fact, it was saying goodbye to my beloved pug many, many years ago that caused my bookstore owner friend to put a copy of the novel A Dog's Purpose in my hand. Almost anyone who knows me as a reader knows receiving that gift started my deep and personal passion for that classic book, and all the other books by W. Bruce Cameron. I became such a superfan that I even started to read his wife Cathryn Michon's books, and though she had a very different style than Cameron's, I loved her funny, feminist vibe too.

Even though it really changed my life, for most people, A Dog's Purpose isn't the book you generally give someone right when they send their fur kid over the rainbow bridge. I think that beautiful spiritual book helps you out maybe after the first year of grief, which is when I read it.

This gorgeous book is the book you could give your friend that very day. Like A Dog's Purpose, the writing is at first deceptively simple, until you realize that this cheerful and very doggy narrator is literally giving us the good news of the immortality of all sentient beings. That's a big topic for one little dog.

But the dog has also got some real complaints about, for example, baths, and in one hilarious sequence, the absurdity of what the dog thinks of as the, "tricks," of, "sit," and, "stay."

The book made me laugh out loud, many times, and then at other times had me dissolved into what I can only call the most healing of tears.

I do know that author Michon is also the screenwriter, along with her husband Cameron, of the amazing films that are made of his books. Perhaps that is why this poetry almost reads as dialogue, from a wise and loving dog who really wants you to understand that their, "dog soul," is still with you, even though their, "dog body," is not.

This is a book I will read again and again, because it felt like the soul of my very own angel dog is whispering in my year from all those years ago. This wonderful wise dog is reminding me that our souls are eternal, that once we love each other we belong to each other always, and that whether, "here," or, "there," there is no doubt that we will meet again. That's a story I could hear every day of my life and still be glad to hear it.

I know some people consider it an insult to call something a, "coffee table book," but though this book isn't large, the quality of the beautiful water color paintings that illustrate its profound and comforting narrative only add to this literally perfect story. I know it's going to be sitting on my coffee table, where I can just grab it and glance at a few of its beautiful pages on a daily basis.

I don't want to say that I love it MORE than A Dog's Purpose, I want to say that I love it the same, but that it's a completely different, and so needed book. This book is going to heal people who are hurting, and I can't think of a better purpose.

I wish I could give it more than 5 stars, it's that wonderful.

Thanks to NetGalley for the advance peek, and to the publisher I say, don't worry about giving away that book for free, because this is a book I will buy again and again.]]>

I completely have a new favorite book, and it's "I'm Still Here: A Dog's Purpose Forever." I almost feel like I should pre-order a dozen of them, because I know this will now become my go-to whenever a fellow dog lover has that awful day where they must say goodbye.

This book was one of the top five "Best Fiction" in the 2010 Ĺ·±¦ÓéŔÖ Awards! It came in at number 4, beating out Jonathon Franzen's Freedom, which got a lot of hype. I'm so psyched that so many people agreed with me that this book was the best novel of 2010!

UPDATE TO MY REVIEW BELOW! I JUST FOUND OUT ON FACEBOOK THAT THIS BOOK IS NOMINATED FOR THE GOODREADS CHOICE AWARD OF 2010!!!! I hope all the people here who have loved it as much as I did will vote and it wins!

I got an early reader's copy because my friend works at a bookstore. She gave it to me because I recently had to put down my 14 year old pug and was a total wreck. Seriously, this was the greatest dog book I've ever read, and I've read a lot of them. This was so much better than "The Art of Racing in the Rain" which I had liked, but the dog in this book is like, a real dog. He doesn't understand words except for things like "car ride" or "biscuit" but he totally understands everything that's going on with his people.

I cried, but it was like, happy tears, because it truly made me realize that though my dog is gone, I get to keep how much we loved each other, always. It's corny to say it, but this book actually changed my life. In the book, the dog keeps coming back, as a dog, and that means, he can come back to his humans. I don't want to spoil any of what happens, but I honestly believe that what this author says in this fictional world might really be true. It would explain a lot about how dogs connect with us, and how they understand us, and how much they take care of us. We think we rescue them, but I think they rescue us.

Seriously, if you ever loved a dog, run, don't walk to get your hands on this. I'm so grateful it was given to me, it's about the only thing that has made me feel better about losing my best friend. ]]>

'The more I know of the world, the more am I convinced that I shall never see a man whom I can really love. I require so much!'

Marianne Dashwood wears her heart on her sleeve, and when she falls in love with the dashing but unsuitable John Willoughby she ignores her sister Elinor's warning that her impulsive behaviour leaves her open to gossip and innuendo. Meanwhile Elinor, always sensitive to social convention, is struggling to conceal her own romantic disappointment, even from those closest to her. Through their parallel experience of love—and its threatened loss—the sisters learn that sense must mix with sensibility if they are to find personal happiness in a society where status and money govern the rules of love.

If it’s navel-gazing you’re after, you’ve come to the wrong place; ditto treacly self-examination. Rather, his observations turn outward: a fight between two men on a bus, a fight between two men on the street, pedestrians being whacked over the head or gathering to watch as a man considers leaping to his death. There’s a dirty joke shared at a book signing, then a dirtier one told at a dinner party—lots of jokes here. Plenty of laughs.
Ěý
These diaries remind you that you once really hated George W. Bush, and that not too long ago, Donald Trump was just a harmless laughingstock, at least on French TV. Time marches on, and Sedaris, at his desk or on planes, in hotel dining rooms and odd Japanese inns, records it. The entries here reflect an ever-changing background—new administrations, new restrictions on speech and conduct. What you can say at the start of the book, you can’t by the end. At its best, A Carnival of Snackery is a sort of sampler: the bitter and the sweet. Some entries are just what you wanted. Others you might want to spit discreetly into a napkin.]]>

<![CDATA[Being Henry: The Fonz . . . and Beyond]]> 65215014 From Emmy-award winning actor, author, comedian, producer, and director Henry Winkler, a deeply thoughtful memoir of the lifelong effects of stardom and the struggle to become whole

Henry Winkler, launched into prominence by his role as “the Fonz in the beloved Happy Days, has transcended the role that made him who he is. Brilliant, funny, and widely regarded as the nicest man in Hollywood (though he would be the first to tell you that it’s simply not the case, he’s really just grateful to be here), Henry shares in this achingly vulnerable memoir the disheartening truth of his childhood, the difficulties of a life with severe dyslexia, the pressures of a role that takes on a life of its own, and the path forward once your wildest dream seems behind you.

Since the glorious era of Happy Days fame, Henry has endeared himself to new generations with roles in such adored shows as Arrested Development, Parks and Recreation, and Barry, where he’s been revealed as an actor with immense depth and pathos, a departure from the period of his life when he was so distinctly typecast as the Fonz that he could hardly find work.

Filled with profound heart, charm, and self-deprecating humor, Being Henry is a memoir about so much more than a life in Hollywood and the curse of stardom. It is a meaningful testament to the power of sharing truth and kindness and of finding fulfillment within yourself.]]>

I don't know how this author does it, she has written so many bestselling books, and they are all really different! This one so captures the feelings of what people in small towns in the south are like. I know because my Mom's family is from the south and this book just really nails it in that regard.

I also love, and this is always a big deal for me, how great the women characters are.

The Help 4667024
Twenty-two-year-old Skeeter has just returned home after graduating from Ole Miss. She may have a degree, but it is 1962, Mississippi, and her mother will not be happy till Skeeter has a ring on her finger. Skeeter would normally find solace with her beloved maid Constantine, the woman who raised her, but Constantine has disappeared and no one will tell Skeeter where she has gone.

Aibileen is a black maid, a wise, regal woman raising her seventeenth white child. Something has shifted inside her after the loss of her own son, who died while his bosses looked the other way. She is devoted to the little girl she looks after, though she knows both their hearts may be broken.

Minny, Aibileen's best friend, is short, fat, and perhaps the sassiest woman in Mississippi. She can cook like nobody's business, but she can't mind her tongue, so she's lost yet another job. Minny finally finds a position working for someone too new to town to know her reputation. But her new boss has secrets of her own.

Seemingly as different from one another as can be, these women will nonetheless come together for a clandestine project that will put them all at risk. And why? Because they are suffocating within the lines that define their town and their times. And sometimes lines are made to be crossed.

In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women, mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends, view one another. A deeply moving novel filled with poignancy, humor, and hope, The Help is a timeless and universal story about the lines we abide by, and the ones we don't.

I also heard that this author was turned down by like, a gillion publishers but she never gave up, which is just my favorite. It reminds me of all the people I admire who just stuck with it because they knew they had something valuable to give to the world.

Anyway, this is a classic book and even if you've seen and loved the movie, you should totally read it. I promise that it is a deeper, richer experience and you'll probably thank me for it! ]]>

Zibby Owens has become a well-known personality in the publishing world. Her infectious energy, tasteful authenticity, and smart, steadfast support of authors started in childhood, a precedent set by the profound effect books and libraries had on her own family.

But after losing her closest friend on 9/11 and later becoming utterly stressed out and overwhelmed by motherhood, Zibby was forgetting what made her her. She turned to books and writing for help.

Just when things seemed particularly bleak, Zibby unexpectedly fell in love with a tennis pro turned movie producer who showed her the path to happiness: away from type A perfectionism and toward “letting things unfold organically. What “unfolded was a meaningful career, a great love, and finally, her voice, now heard by millions of listeners.

An honest and moving story about relationships, love, food issues, the writing life, and finding one’s true calling, Bookends will inspire and uplift.]]>

The Good Left Undone 58065358 From Adriana Trigiani, "a master of visual and palpable detail" (The Washington Post), comes a lush, immersive novel about three generations of Tuscan artisans with one remarkable secret. Epic in scope and resplendent with the glorious themes of identity and belonging, The Good Left Undone unfolds in breathtaking turns.

Matelda, the Cabrelli family's matriarch, has always been brusque and opinionated. Now, as she faces the end of her life, she is determined to share a long-held secret with her family about her own mother's great love story: with her childhood friend, Silvio, and with dashing Scottish sea captain John Lawrie McVicars, the father Matelda never knew. . . .

In the halcyon past, Domenica Cabrelli thrives in the coastal town of Viareggio until her beloved home becomes unsafe when Italy teeters on the brink of World War II. Her journey takes her from the rocky shores of Marseille to the mystical beauty of Scotland to the dangers of wartime Liverpool--where Italian Scots are imprisoned without cause--as Domenica experiences love, loss, and grief while she longs for home. A hundred years later, her daughter, Matelda, and her granddaughter, Anina, face the same big questions about life and their family's legacy, while Matelda contemplates what is worth fighting for. But Matelda is running out of time, and the two timelines intersect and weave together in unexpected and heartbreaking ways that lead the family to shocking revelations and, ultimately, redemption.]]>

The Shoemaker's Wife 13127599
Unbeknownst to one another, they both build fledgling lives in America, Ciro masters shoemaking and Enza takes a factory job in Hoboken until fate intervenes and reunites them. But it is too late: Ciro has volunteered to serve in World War I and Enza, determined to forge a life without him, begins her impressive career as a seamstress at the Metropolitan Opera House that will sweep her into the glamorous salons of Manhattan and into the life of the international singing sensation, Enrico Caruso.

From the stately mansions of Carnegie Hill, to the cobblestone streets of Little Italy, over the perilous cliffs of northern Italy, to the white-capped lakes of northern Minnesota, these star-crossed lovers meet and separate, until, finally, the power of their love changes both of their lives forever.

Lush and evocative, told in tantalizing detail and enriched with lovable, unforgettable characters, The Shoemaker's Wife is a portrait of the times, the places and the people who defined the immigrant experience, claiming their portion of the American dream with ambition and resolve, cutting it to fit their needs like the finest Italian silk.

This riveting historical epic of love and family, war and loss, risk and destiny is the novel Adriana Trigiani was born to write, one inspired by her own family history and the love of tradition that has propelled her body of bestselling novels to international acclaim. Like Lucia, Lucia, The Shoemaker's Wife defines an era with clarity and splendor, with operatic scope and a vivid cast of characters who will live on in the imaginations of readers for years to come.]]>

Lucas Ray is shocked when an adorable puppy jumps out of an abandoned building and into his arms. Though the apartment he shares with his mother, a disabled veteran, doesn't allow dogs, Lucas can't resist taking Bella home.

Bella is inexplicably drawn to Lucas, even if she doesn't understand the necessity of games like No Barks. As it becomes more difficult to hide her from the neighbors, Lucas begins to sneak Bella into the VA where he works. There, Bella brings joy and comfort where it is needed most.

After Bella is picked up by Animal Control because pit bulls are banned in Denver, Lucas has no choice but to send her to a foster home until he can figure out what to do. But Bella, distraught at the separation, doesn't plan to wait. With four hundred miles of dangerous Colorado wilderness between her and her person, Bella sets off on a seemingly impossible and completely unforgettable adventure home.

I laughed, I sobbed, I fell in love with Bella.

This books, to me, an epic journey of love. We all hear those stories in the news of a dog who gets separated from its owner, and somehow finds it's way back over hundreds of miles, even years later. It happens, we know it happens, but like everyone who hears a story like that, you wonder HOW it could happen. Mr. Cameron tells you how, in ways you never would have guessed, which all seem as true as if this were a dog's memoir.

This book surprised me at every turn, which is something Cameron is the master of doing. And I loved the fact that Bella is a girl, and that a lot of her take on things seems to come from a female understanding of life, and the importance of mothering and care taking.

Finally, as an animal advocate, the fact that we get to hear from the dog's point of view, the heartbreak of the unintended consequences of Breed Discriminatory Legislation is groundbreaking to me. This book might be the thing that finally gets people to see that laws banning a dog by breed a. don't accomplish what they set out to accomplish (there is no lessening in dog bite injuries) and they cause untold harm and suffering to both people and animals. Best Friends Animal Society did a survey that shows that 84% of Americans are against these laws (since when do 84% of Americans agree on ANYTHING) and yet in cities like Denver, where this book takes place, those laws are used to murder adoptable loving dogs every day.

If you love dogs, heck, if you love LOVE, you need to read this book. I simply could not put it down, but as a now life-long fan of Mr. Cameron's, I've gotten used to that. For me, his books are weekend reads only, or else I look terrible at work the next day.

Because I was an early reader of the masterpiece A Dog's Purpose, the publisher reached out to me to read W. Bruce Cameron's latest, A Dog's Way Home. I am happy to say that not only did this book not disappoint, it may be his greatest book yet. We are once again told the story from the point of view of the dog, but it is NOT a sequel to A Dog's Purpose and A Dog's Journey (though can I just say, I wish he would write that book!)

<![CDATA[Love, Clancy: Diary of a Good Dog]]> 60784493
You’ve probably never met someone like Clancy. He’s keeping a diary, he’s falling in love, there are rivals for his affections, he lives with his best friend and his worst enemy even taken together, these factors are maybe not that unusual, except that Clancy is a dog. His point of view is therefore perhaps…different.

Told in Cameron’s signature style, a tremendous cast of wonderful characters find themselves jointly and separately navigating the challenges of life, of love, and…other pets, including Clancy's “worst enemy - one very disdainful cat. It’s a lot to keep track of, especially when things start to spin hilariously out of control, but fortunately, we’ve got the observations of Clancy, a very good dog, who shares a valuable perspective on what is really important.

I don't know how the last three years or so have gone for all of you, but I really clung to my dog and felt closer to him than ever. Somehow, W. Bruce Cameron has once again written EXACTLY the book I needed to heal my heart from these strange times. I originally read A Dog's Purpose after I lost my beloved dog, and that book healed me too. Thank you to this beloved author for once again writing exactly the book I needed, at exactly the time I needed it. Since the whole world was on lockdown and isolated, I have a feeling that there are a lot of people who could use the heart and the laughs this book so generously provide.

Love, Clancey: Diary of a Good Dog is told from the point of view of a very good, diary keeping dog, but it's really different than other books he's written. For one thing, it's so HILARIOUS! And then, it's really ROMANTIC. It's about a crazy group of people who all love their dogs, some of them are super crazy, but at it's core is Alana and JayB.

What I love about this couple is that they are both really kind people. So much of fiction and film and TV in the current climate is about these kind of awful, selfish, evil people, but these two characters are kind people, dare I say, NORMAL people, dealing with the kind of problems that most people have: changes in employment, dealing with the death of a parent, trying to wrangle family dynamics, in other words, real life.

But the reason it's taken me out of my post pandemic funk is because it's so full of life, and hope, and frankly, hilarity. It's a breezy escape, and when all the characters load into a giant conversion van with all their dogs and head to Las Vegas, it's a blast with a ton of surprising, and again, truly funny plot twists.

I won't spoil the happy, happy, OH SO HAPPY ending, but know that this is NOT one of those books that serves up a gut punch at the end.

At times like these, knowing that no matter what crazy people are in our lives, our dogs are always on our side is like, the best feeling ever. It feels true because it is true, but I love hearing it from Clancy's point of view.

I'm really hoping that this book will become a movie like many of Cameron's other books. It's sort of like, Little Miss Sunshine, but with dogs! It would be amazing. Nobody Hollywood cares what I think, but I'd love to see Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson as JayB and Alana. How fun would that be?

Treat yourself to a book that makes you feel better, and reminds you that your dog, and in fact, all dogs, are VERY GOOD DOGS!

I don't have kids of my own but I am like, the greatest Aunt in the history of Aunts, and all of my nieces and nephews are getting this book for summer reading. I'm a huge fan of the "grown up" books of W. Bruce Cameron, and so I am always introducing kids to this author through these books. I have created some real superfans!

But the truth is, I read every one of these books before I give them, and they make the most gentle, heart-tugging, often hilarious bedtime stories for an adult.

Cooper is a dog with a very special purpose, he's being trained to be an assistant dog to his boy Burke, who is in a wheelchair. His journey towards understanding that he is a dog who is not like other dogs, that he is a dog who WORKS is suspenseful, emotional and so satisfying.

Also his devotion to his true dog love, Lacey, is so sweet and adorable. I found myself rooting for a boy and his dog and a dog and his dog!

I also love how this book explores the world of a differently abled child without preaching, because, well, it's told from the point of view of a dog. Dogs don't see disability, just like they don't see race or a lot of the other things that people get so messed up about.

This feels like a beautiful, classic children's book that will last for the ages. TREAT YOURSELF TO THIS BOOK!]]>

The raging inferno separates Bella from her people and she is lost once more.

Alone in the wilderness, Bella unexpectedly finds herself responsible for the safety of two defenseless mountain lion cubs. Now she’s torn between two equally urgent goals. More than anything, she wants to find her way home to Lucas and Olivia, but not if it means abandoning her new family to danger. And danger abounds, from predators hunting them to the flames threatening at every turn.

Can Bella ever get back to where she truly belongs?

A Dog’s Courage is more than a fast-paced adventure, more than a devoted dog’s struggle to survive, it’s a story asking that we believe in our dogs as much as they believe in us.]]>

Some people might say, "How many books can you read from a dog's point of view?" Having just finished the amazing A Dog's Courage, I'm going to have to say AS MANY AS W. BRUCE CAMERON CAN WRITE.

Honestly, this is the best one he's written yet. As the sequel to A Dog's Way Home you might be like, what? How is there a sequel, didn't Bella find her way home? She certainly did, but you are in the hands of a master storyteller here so don't worry your pretty little head about it and enjoy this amazing ride.

There is heart pounding adventure, there is laughter, yeah, there are a few tears (but not because the dog dies!) but mostly, there is love, love, LOVE!

No accident that this book comes in time for Mother's Day and Father's Day, for at it's heart, it's all about the love of a parent. Lucas and Olivia for their fur child, Bella for the (plot spoiler) kittens of Big Kitten, and so much more.

I hope W. Bruce Cameron is taking good care of himself, he has a LOT MORE BOOKS HE NEEDS TO WRITE FOR ME!!!]]>

Empire Falls 187020
Miles Roby has been slinging burgers at the Empire Grill for 20 years, a job that cost him his college education and much of his self-respect. What keeps him there? It could be his bright, sensitive daughter Tick, who needs all his help surviving the local high school. Or maybe it’s Janine, Miles soon-to-be ex-wife, who’s taken up with a noxiously vain health-club proprietor. Or perhaps it’s the imperious Francine Whiting, who owns everything in town–and seems to believe that “everything includes Miles himself. In Empire Falls Richard Russo delves deep into the blue-collar heart of America in a work that overflows with hilarity, heartache, and grace]]>

A Dog's Perfect Christmas 51096898 The perfect, feel-good holiday gift from W. Bruce Cameron, the #1 New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of the A Dog’s Purpose series

The problems fracturing the Goss family as Christmas approaches are hardly unique, though perhaps they are handling them a little differently than most people might. But then a true emergency arises, one with the potential to not only ruin Christmas, but everything holding the family together.

Is the arrival of a lost puppy yet another in the string of calamities facing them, or could the little canine be just what they all need?

A Dog’s Perfect Christmas is a beautiful, poignant, delightful tale of what can happen when family members open their hearts to new possibilities. You’ll find love and tears and laughter—the ideal holiday read.]]>

OMGOMG All my friends know that A Dog’s Purpose isn’t just my favorite book, it literally changed my life. Well here I am in the middle of 2020, the worst year of my life (and EVERYONE’S life) and once again, W. Bruce Cameron writes a book that actually helps! The Goss family is as messed up as any normal family, and then along comes an out of the blue emergency. Throw into that the pure chaos of a puppy and oddly, that’s the crazy element that starts to get everyone to get their crap together, family-wise. I get that Cameron’s books are super popular (he’s a #1 Best Seller and seems to have a movie out every five minutes) but I don’t think his books get recognition for the great literature they are. They take you on a roller coaster of every emotion, crying and laughing out loud. And ultimately they’re so human and optimistic. He reminds me of another author I love. Richard Russo. They gave that guy a Pulitzer, where’s a Pulitzer for my favorite author? Seriously, read this and then give it to everyone for Christmas, they will thank you I promise. Thanks to stinking Covid it’s going to be the worst Christmas ever (again, for EVERYONE!) but this book will actually help.

As an original fan of A Dog's Purpose I have been lucky enough once again to be given an ARC by the amazing publisher of W. Bruce Cameron.

I have to say, as much as I love this author, as much as I love the movies that get made from his books (A Dog's Journey, which is A Dog's Purpose #2 is easily the best of the three movies) I had some trepidation. I thought to myself, will I be tired of hearing the ongoing adventures of Bailey, Bailey, Bailey which I thought had come to a happy ending at the end of book and movie #2 in the A Dog's Purpose series?

Well I should have had more faith in my favorite author, I can tell you that. In this book, he manages to change the rules of the game yet again for Bailey the Angel Dog. There were surprises and as usual laughs and tears loud enough for me to bother other passengers on the train to work.

And on the last page, I literally, "SQUEEEEEED!" out loud!

You'll get no plot spoilers from me. I'm actually hoping that I'm going to be able to tell the author all of this in person because I looked on his Facebook page and he's going on a big book tour and one of the events is a not-so-long car ride from me. Me and my friend are road-trippin' it and I could NOT BE MORE EXCITED!

Perhaps you want to know what Mindy thinks makes a great best friend (someone who will fill your prescription in the middle of the night), or what makes a great guy (one who is aware of all elderly people in any room at any time and acts accordingly), or what is the perfect amount of fame (so famous you can never get convicted of murder in a court of law), or how to maintain a trim figure (you will not find that information in these pages). If so, you've come to the right book, mostly!

<![CDATA[Furiously Happy: A Funny Book About Horrible Things]]> 23848559
In Furiously Happy, a humor memoir tinged with just enough tragedy and pathos to make it worthwhile, Jenny Lawson examines her own experience with severe depression and a host of other conditions, and explains how it has led her to live life to the fullest:

"I've often thought that people with severe depression have developed such a well for experiencing extreme emotion that they might be able to experience extreme joy in a way that â€normal people' also might never understand. And that's what Furiously Happy is all about."

Jenny’s readings are standing room only, with fans lining up to have Jenny sign their bottles of Xanax or Prozac as often as they are to have her sign their books. Furiously Happy appeals to Jenny's core fan base but also transcends it. There are so many people out there struggling with depression and mental illness, either themselves or someone in their family—and in Furiously Happy they will find a member of their tribe offering up an uplifting message (via a taxidermied roadkill raccoon). Let's Pretend This Never Happened ostensibly was about embracing your own weirdness, but deep down it was about family. Furiously Happy is about depression and mental illness, but deep down it's about joy—and who doesn't want a bit more of that?]]>

The Last Song 6400090 Alternate Cover Edition can be found here

Seventeen-year-old Veronica 'Ronnie' Miller’s life was turned upside-down when her parents divorced and her father moved from New York City to Wilmington, North Carolina. Three years later, she remains angry and alienated from her parents, especially her father . . . until her mother decides it would be in everyone’s best interest if she spent the summer in Wilmington with him. Ronnie’s father, a former concert pianist and teacher, is living a quiet life in the beach town, immersed in creating a work of art that will become the centerpiece of a local church.

The tale that unfolds is an unforgettable story about love in its myriad forms - first love, the love between parents and children - that demonstrates, as only a Nicholas Sparks novel can, the many ways that deeply felt relationships can break our hearts . . . and heal them.]]>

The Size of Everything 41718958
Raised on a steady diet of abuse, alcoholism, poverty, and death, no one would have expected Cole to go on to become a force in the fashion world. As a child, she often had no access to food; other times she was force-fed until she vomited. At home and at school, she was beaten, bullied and belittled. Her alcoholic parents alternately abused and ignored her. By the age of sixteen, she was living on her own.

The Size of Everything is Cole’s moving story and so much more. Equal parts heartbreaking and hilarious, it’s a love letter to her surviving siblings, a how-not-to-parent manual, a testament to the power of positivity, and proof that where you come from doesn’t have to determine where you can go. Above all, The Size of Everything offers a powerful message of hope to anyone who believes that impossibly rocky beginnings can’t have a happy ending.]]>

But I was in no way prepared for this super intense, super INSPIRING memoir that she co-authored with Erin Cole. This is a great book about a MESSED UP family and boy is that ever an understatement. But here's where it gets inspiring, this Erin Cole girl cannot be defeated. And I just simply couldn't put the book down. I'm more of a fiction reader than a memoir reader, but in this memoir, life just served up the most ridiculous plot twists, but Erin somehow doesn't just survive all of it, she freaking THRIVES all of it.

If you ever wanted to be grateful for your crazy family, read this, because trust me, your family has nothing on Erin Cole's family.

Also, it was genuinely funny. Not so much in what happens (not funny) but in how Erin processed all of it.

The Sworn Virgin 32600768 When eighteen-year-old Eleanora’s father is shot dead on the cobblestone streets of 1910 Albania, Eleanora must abandon her dream of studying art in Italy as she struggles to survive in a remote mountain village with her stepmother Meria.

Nearing starvation, Meria secretly sells Eleanora into marriage with the cruel heir of a powerful clan. Intent on keeping her freedom, Eleanora takes an oath to remain a virgin for the rest of her life—a tradition that gives her the right to live as a man: she is now head of her household and can work for a living as well as carry a gun. Eleanora can also participate in the vengeful blood feuds that consume the mountain tribes, but she may not be killed—unless she forsakes her vow, which she has no intention of ever doing.

But when an injured stranger stumbles into her life, Eleanora nurses him back to health, saving his life—yet risking her own as she falls in love with him...]]>

I had no idea that there was any country in the world where a woman could suddenly proclaim she's a man (basically) and then have every right a man has in her messed up crazy society. But it turns out that in Albania, back in the day, that was totally true. I have no idea if it's true now, I'm guessing not. The story of this book was so unusual, and compelling and romantic that I couldn't put it down. It was so great to read about a (pretty crazy) world that I know nothing about and just get completely swept up in that. I highly recommend this book, it's a real page turner and I can't wait to see what this author comes up with next!

This really is the perfect thing to give to a dad for Father's Day, but if you're like me, you should gobble it up first for yourself. The thing you won't be able to tell your own dad is that you kind of wish that this guy was your dad. He's always hilarious, but you get that he truly loves his kids, and that they love him.

When it comes to humor writing, my favorite has always been David Sedaris, and part of what I like about him is that personally, he's such a weirdo. What I like about Cameron as a humor writer is that he's writing about the most normal and dull things, his daughters having car accidents with each other in their own driveway, the search for a lost toy from a child, the last time his son held his hand. There are so many actual laugh out loud lines in this, just like with Sedaris, but the topics are so much more relatable, for me anyway.

Readers of the A Dog's Purpose series won't be surprised that this guy will make you laugh out loud in public places, and then make you cry and want to hug your own dad. Or, if you're a dad, maybe it makes you want to hug your kids.

I'm going to buy it when it comes out and give it to me dad, a kind of remote guy, and see what happens. ]]>

From here the story could take many turns. When this guy is David Sedaris, the possibilities are endless, but the result is always the same: he will both delight you with twists of humor and intelligence and leave you deeply moved.

Sedaris remembers his father's dinnertime attire (shirtsleeves and underpants), his first colonoscopy (remarkably pleasant), and the time he considered buying the skeleton of a murdered Pygmy.

With Let's Explore Diabetes with Owls, David Sedaris shows once again why his work has been called "hilarious, elegant, and surprisingly moving" (Washington Post).

<![CDATA[When You Are Engulfed in Flames]]> 1044355 When You Are Engulfed in Flames confirms once again that David Sedaris is a master of mystery and suspense.

Or how about...

when set on fire, most of us either fumble for our wallets or waste valuable time feeling sorry for ourselves. David Sedaris has studied this phenomenon, and his resulting insights may very well save your life. Author of the national bestsellers Should You Be Attacked By Snakes and If You Are Surrounded by Mean Ghosts, David Sedaris, with When You Are Engulfed in Flames, is clearly at the top of his game.

Oh, all right...

David Sedaris has written yet another book of essays (his sixth). Subjects include a parasitic worm that once lived in his mother-in-law's leg, an encounter with a dingo, and the recreational use of an external catheter. Also recounted is the buying of a human skeleton and the author's attempt to quit smoking In Tokyo.

Master of nothing, at the dead center of his game, Sedaris proves that when you play with matches, you sometimes light the whole pack on fire.

Naked 4138 Naked, Sedaris turns the mania for memoir on its proverbial ear, mining the exceedingly rich terrain of his life, his family, and his unique worldview—a sensibility at once take-no-prisoners sharp and deeply charitable. A tart-tongued mother does dead-on imitations of her young son's nervous tics, to the great amusement of his teachers; a stint of Kerouackian wandering is undertaken (of course!) with a quadriplegic companion; a family gathers for a wedding in the face of imminent death. Starting with the vaudeville circuit at the turn of the last century, Nesteroff introduces the first stand-up comedian—an emcee who abandoned physical shtick for straight jokes. After the repeal of Prohibition, Mafia-run supper clubs replaced speakeasies, and mobsters replaced vaudeville impresarios as the comedian’s primary employer. In the 1950s, the late-night talk show brought stand-up to a wide public, while Lenny Bruce, Mort Sahl, and Jonathan Winters attacked conformity and staged a comedy rebellion in coffeehouses. From comedy’s part in the Civil Rights movement and the social upheaval of the late 1960s, to the first comedy clubs of the 1970s and the cocaine-fueled comedy boom of the 1980s, The Comedians culminates with a new era of media-driven celebrity in the twenty-first century.]]>

<![CDATA[How to Remodel a Man: Tips and Techniques on Accomplishing Something You Know Is Impossible but Want to Try Anyway]]> 767808
Their urge is understandable. We've all had to take measures to accommodate men, because they are involved in nearly every aspect of modern life except maybe housework and they like to run things like corporate meetings and the planet. The only other alternative has been to try to avoid men altogether, which is pretty hard to do if you are interested in stuff like reproduction or having your oil changed.

That's why How to Remodel a Man is so indispensable-it is a clear, step-by-step guide for anyone who wants to alter the character and behavior of a man, written by an actual man. Author W. Bruce Cameron provides startling insight into male pattern thinking, explaining why men can open a refrigerator and not see the mayonnaise, or how it is that they can throw dirty clothes at the hamper or in front of the hamper or even on top of the hamper and yet not seem capable of getting any of it in the hamper.

Normally, changing a man has certain obstacles, including, but not limited to, the fact that it is impossible. But Cameron is able to overcome this hindrance because he, himself, has been remodeled. In a move so bold it may be shocking to people unaccustomed to such personal courage, Cameron turned himself over to the women in his life and asked them to change him. It started with a list of his flaws (Cameron came up with four; the women came up with one hundred seventy eight) and ended with him writing How to Remodel a Man , so that others could learn from his experience.

If you're a woman, you'll be amazed to learn that men can be trained to perform all sorts of tricks, like using the instruments on the sides of their heads (the ears) to listen to you, and the space between those instruments to think about you.

If you're a man, you've been given this book so that you'll see that it's possible to watch television without holding the remote or to ask for directions from strangers without suffering a catastrophic loss of testosterone. Cameron changed, and you can too.

How to Remodel a Man is the essential guide for anyone in the awkward position of having to interact with a person of the male gender.]]>

With his job suddenly in jeopardy, his fiancé wanting a break, and a new court-ordered psychiatrist insisting he take his medication or violate the terms of his probation, Ruddy finds himself missing the one thing he thought he would be happy to be rid of--the voice of Alan Lottner, dead realtor and Ruddy's future father-in-law.

When a woman tells Ruddy that the tragedy that defines his life may, in fact, be a lie, Ruddy starts to investigate the disappearances of women in the area and soon discovers that his own redemption may be within reach. Alan's voice returns, and Ruddy and Alan work together to bring down a corrupt banker, win back Katie's love, and stop a serial killer before he can strike again.

The Dogs of Christmas 17332247
While nursing a broken heart, Josh Michaels is outraged when a neighbor abandons his very pregnant dog, Lucy, at Josh's Colorado home. But Josh can't resist Lucy's soulful brown eyes, and though he's never had a dog before, he's determined to do the best he can for Lucy―and her soon-to-arrive, bound-to-be-adorable puppies.

Soon in over his head, Josh calls the local animal shelter for help, and meets Kerri, a beautiful woman with a quick wit and a fierce love for animals. As Kerri teaches Josh how to care for Lucy's tiny puppies and gets them ready to be adopted through the shelter's "Dogs of Christmas" program, Josh surprises himself by falling for her.

But he's fallen even harder for his new furry family, which has brought incredible joy into Josh's life. He barely has time to sit down, between chasing after adventurous Sophie and brave Oliver, but when he does, his lap is quickly filled by the affectionate Lola. And Rufus and Cody's strong bond makes Josh wonder about his own relationships with his family.

With Christmas and the adoption date looming, Josh finds himself wondering if he can separate himself from his beloved puppies. At odds with Kerri, Josh isn't willing to lose her, but doesn't know how to set things right. Can a surprise litter of Christmas puppies really change one man's life?

W. Bruce Cameron's The Dogs of Christmas is a charming and heartwarming holiday tale that explores the power of love, trust, and a basket full of puppies.

<![CDATA[The Lost Dogs: Michael Vick's Dogs and Their Tale of Rescue and Redemption]]> 7816264 An inspiring story of survival and our powerful bond with man's best friend, in the aftermath of the nation's most notorious case of animal cruelty.

Animal lovers and sports fans were shocked when the story broke about NFL player Michael Vick's brutal dog fighting operation. But what became of the dozens of dogs who survived? As acclaimed writer Jim Gorant discovered, their story is the truly newsworthy aspect of this case. Expanding on Gorant's Sports Illustrated cover story, The Lost Dogs traces the effort to bring Vick to justice and turns the spotlight on these infamous pit bulls, which were saved from euthanasia by an outpouring of public appeals coupled with a court order that Vick pay nearly a million dollars in "restitution" to the dogs.

As an ASPCA-led team evaluated each one, they found a few hardened fighters, but many more lovable, friendly creatures desperate for compassion. In The Lost Dogs, we meet these amazing animals, a number of which are now living in loving homes, while some even work in therapy programs: Johnny Justice participates in Paws for Tales, which lets kids get comfortable with reading aloud by reading to dogs; Leo spends three hours a week with cancer patients and troubled teens. At the heart of the stories are the rescue workers who transformed the pups from victims of animal cruelty into healing caregivers themselves, unleashing priceless hope.

Includes an 8-page photo insert.

<![CDATA[Oogy: The Dog Only a Family Could Love]]> 8105569
In 2002, Larry Levin and his twin sons, Dan and Noah, took their terminally ill cat to the Ardmore Animal Hospital outside Philadelphia to have the beloved pet put to sleep. What would begin as a terrible day suddenly got brighter as the ugliest dog they had ever seen--one who was missing an ear and had half his face covered in scar tissue--ran up to them and captured their hearts. The dog had been used as bait for fighting dogs when he was just a few months old. He had been thrown in a cage and left to die until the police rescued him and the staff at Ardmore Animal Hospital saved his life. The Levins, whose sons are themselves adopted, were unable to resist Oogy's charms, and decided to take him home.

Heartwarming and redemptive, Oogy is the story of the people who were determined to rescue this dog against all odds, and of the family who took him home, named him "Oogy" (an affectionate derivative of ugly), and made him one of their own.]]>

Every dog has work to do. Every dog has a purpose.

As an early, early fan of the adult book from which this children's novel is adapted, I approached this new young reader's series with some trepidation. But, I have grade school nieces and nephews that I want to read the full book A Dog's Purpose, and who I know will see the movie that's coming out starring Bradley Cooper. So I was able to get an advance copy, and now I'm going to buy this book for all the kids in my life, because honestly, the story kept me glued to this book in only two night's reading. The weird thing is, like I said, I am a huge fan of the original book, but there was so much more detail here that I just flat out loved it. I know what's going to be my stocking stuffer for every kid I know this coming Christmas! BRAVO!

Jenna McCarthy might be forty-something, but she doesn’t feel forty-something. She certainly doesn’t look forty-something. (Actually she does, but she’s in denial so maybe don’t mention it?) And between complaining about how tired she is, trying to remember what she came in here for and wondering whether she drinks too much, she does not have time for a crisis.

She has, however, had time to crack the mysterious midlife code. She’s figured out how to tame her muffin top, keep the spark in her marriage and probably not die a fiery hoarder’s death. She’s learned the trick to looking ten years younger and the secret to feeling ten times happier (and it only cost $14.99 plus shipping and handling). And she’s discovered the one thing she will need to do for the rest of ever if she’s going to continue to refuse to “dress her age.

Tackling everything from cosmetic surgery and financial panic to skinny jeans and the meaning of life, I’ve Still Got It... is a middle age manifesto filled with hilarious misadventures, humiliating confessions and occasional (hot) flashes of genius.]]>

Pretty Much Screwed 23398801
“I don’t love you anymore.

For Charlotte Crawford, the worst part about being dumped after twenty years of marriage is that her husband, Jack, doesn’t want another woman; he just doesn’t want her.

Forty-two and clueless, Charlotte is a fish out of water in a dating pool teeming with losers. Just when she thinks she’s finally put her failed marriage behind her, it comes back to bite her in the ass…hard. Without warning, Charlotte finds herself staring down the barrel of a future she wouldn’t ( she would totally ) wish on her worst enemy.

Engaging, fearless, and relentlessly funny, Pretty Much Screwed is a story of love, loss, friendship, forgiveness, turtledoves, taxidermy, and one hilariously ill-placed tick.

This book is fucking hilarious!

Jenna is the kind of author you can say that about and not have anyone get offended, because her characters talk like real people talk, which means that when their lives fall apart they say fuck. Like, a fucking lot.

But that's not why the book is great. The book is GREAT because unlike most books that get classified as chick lit (which is a dismissive insult I'll address in another forum) this one has plot twists you never see coming, and they are hilarious, and suspenseful and even (gulp!) heartwarming.

That's right, the old cliche, I laughed, and I cried, and I fell in love with all the lovable characters in this book, and wished an early death and lots of wrinkles on the bad ones.

<![CDATA[The Dog Master: A Novel of the First Dog]]> 22238176 Set against the most dramatic time in our species' history, The Dog Master tells the story of one tribe's struggle for survival and one extraordinary man's bond with a wolf--a friendship that changed mankind forever

Thirty thousand years ago, ice was storming the planet. Among the species forced out of the trees and onto the steppes by the advancing cold was modern man, who was both predator and prey.

No stranger to the experiences that make us human--a mother's love and a father's betrayal, tribal war and increasing famine, political intrigue and forbidden love, joy and hope and devastating loss--our ancestors competed for scant resources in a brutal landscape.

Mankind stood on the cold brink of extinction...but they had a unique advantage over other species, a new technology--domesticated wolves.

Only a set of extraordinary circumstances could have transformed one of these fierce creatures into a hunting companion, a bodyguard, a soldier, and a friend. The Dog Master by W. Bruce Cameron is an evocative glimpse of prehistory, an emotional coming-of-age saga, a thrilling tale of survival against all odds, and the exciting, imaginative story of the first dog.]]>

But hands down, this is the best book he's ever written, and one of the best books I've ever read. Why? Because it tells a story we know is true (what we call dogs were once wolves) but how that happened has never been told before, and it isn't a simple story. You don't just throw some meat to a wolf and turn it into a dog if you live in the Paleolithic, or even now, frankly. Wolves are predators, and they can kill you if they're hungry and think they can take you down.

So how did it happen? That's what this book answers. It was truly un-put-down-able, and gave me some sleepless nights, partly because I felt so lucky to once again get a publisher's ARC of it. There are some heroes in this book that I can't get out of my mind, and one villain in particular that I wish I could get out, because man oh man is she a wicked witch.

I'm hoping this becomes a huge series of books, like Game of Thrones, because I could really tap into that. LOVED IT! ]]>

With a sweet romance, a murder mystery, a lazy but loyal dog and a town full of cabin-fevered characters you can’t help but love, New York Times bestselling novelist W. Bruce Cameron’s The Midnight Plan of the Repo Man is yet another laugh-out-loud, keep-you-up-late, irresistible read.Ěý]]>

This book is like no other, the whole idea that somebody who isn't crazy (or at least we think he isn't crazy) suddenly gets a voice in his head asking him to find his murderer, is just, so interesting and different that I couldn't wait to see what would happen.

So it's suspenseful, for sure, but then (and here's where it totally caught me off guard) it's really, truly funny. I mean, I laughed hard enough that it got almost embarrassing because I was reading it in a restaurant. You might think twice about doing that.

And then, it's really romantic, which I also didn't expect. Honestly, this book surprised me at every turn and eventually kept me up way too late.

That shouldn't have surprised me at all, because this author knows how to keep you turning the pages.

What I did expect, because of A Dog's Purpose, was that there would be a dog in it, and I so fell in love with Jake, especially because he reminds me of my own lazy, reluctant-to-go-for-a-walk dog.

Though I literally force people to read A Dog's Purpose all the time, now I feel like I might have to force them to read this. I hope it becomes a series, although I don't see how it could. But I said the same thing about A Dog's Purpose, and then I loved A Dog's Journey even more so honestly, don't listen to me, this author will surprise you every time. But you should read this book, I promise you will love it. ]]>

<![CDATA[Not By Accident: Reconstructing a Careless Life]]> 354308
In a life filled with risk-taking and injuries, this was the most serious accident yet. It spurred Dunn to question her inclination toward carelessness, and she learned that a pattern of accidents often indicates deeper issues bubbling below the surface. This last near-fatal episode was a wake-up call; she had been looking away, not only from her horse, who had shown clear signs of panic, but also from her complicated past and troubled marriage. Not by Accident follows the stages of Dunn's long and painful recovery, during which the emotional healing process proved even more challenging than the physical one.]]>

Oliver Twist 18254
The story of Oliver Twist - orphaned, and set upon by evil and adversity from his first breath - shocked readers when it was published. After running away from the workhouse and pompous beadle Mr Bumble, Oliver finds himself lured into a den of thieves peopled by vivid and memorable characters - the Artful Dodger, vicious burglar Bill Sikes, his dog Bull's Eye, and prostitute Nancy, all watched over by cunning master-thief Fagin. Combining elements of Gothic Romance, the Newgate Novel and popular melodrama, Dickens created an entirely new kind of fiction, scathing in its indictment of a cruel society, and pervaded by an unforgettable sense of threat and mystery.

This Penguin Classics edition of Oliver Twist is the first critical edition to faithfully reproduce the text as its earliest readers would have encountered it from its serialisation in Bentley's Miscellany, and includes an introduction by Philip Horne, a glossary of Victorian thieves' slang, a chronology of Dickens's life, a map of contemporary London and all of George Cruikshank's original illustrations.

For more than seventy years, Penguin has been the leading publisher of classic literature in the English-speaking world. With more than 1,700 titles, Penguin Classics represents a global bookshelf of the best works throughout history and across genres and disciplines. Readers trust the series to provide authoritative texts enhanced by introductions and notes by distinguished scholars and contemporary authors, as well as up-to-date translations by award-winning translators.]]>

A Tale of Two Cities 1953 A Tale of Two Cities is Charles Dickens’s great historical novel, set against the violent upheaval of the French Revolution. The most famous and perhaps the most popular of his works, it compresses an event of immense complexity to the scale of a family history, with a cast of characters that includes a bloodthirsty ogress and an antihero as believably flawed as any in modern fiction. Though the least typical of the author’s novels, A Tale of Two Cities still underscores many of his enduring themes—imprisonment, injustice, social anarchy, resurrection, and the renunciation that fosters renewal.]]> 489 Charles Dickens 0141439602 Heidi 5 3.86 1859 A Tale of Two Cities

I love that Nora Ephron told the truth about that, because it was that kind of behavior within Women's Groups at my own college that initially turned me off on the idea of calling myself a Feminist.

I've changed on that, and I say, don't let the bitches keep you from being a Feminist.

And I'm not being sexists, because you shouldn't let the bastards stop you from being a Feminist either!

I'm so sad Nora Ephron is dead. I'm so sad I didn't know more about her until she died. ]]>

The essay in this book called "Miami" is one of the best things I ever read, basically it details how Betty Friedan picked the biggest catfight of all Feminism with Gloria Steinem, basically because she was so much thinner and prettier than she was.

Heartburn 225343
Seven months into her pregnancy, Rachel Samstat discovers that her husband, Mark, is in love with another woman. The fact that the other woman has "a neck as long as an arm and a nose as long as a thumb and you should see her legs" is no consolation. Food sometimes is, though, since Rachel writes cookbooks for a living. And in between trying to win Mark back and loudly wishing him dead, Ephron's irrepressible heroine offers some of her favorite recipes. "Heartburn" is a sinfully delicious novel, as soul-satisfying as mashed potatoes and as airy as a perfect soufflé.]]>
