<![CDATA[Three Kinds of Lucky (The Shadow Age, #1)]]> 57427858 Luck is its own kind of magic, in this first book in an electrifying new contemporary fantasy series from the author of the #1 New York Times bestselling Hollows novels.

Petra Grady has known since adolescence that she has no talent for magic—and that’s never going to change. But as a sweeper first-class, she’s parlayed her rare ability to handle dross—the damaging, magical waste generated by her more talented kin’s spellwork—into a decent life working at the mages university.

Except Grady’s relatively predictable life is about to be upended. When the oblivious, sexy, and oh-so-out-of-reach Benedict Strom needs someone with her abilities for a research project studying dross and how to render it harmless, she’s stuck working on his team—whether she wants to or not.

Only Benedict doesn’t understand the characteristics of dross like Grady does. After an unthinkable accident, she and Benedict are forced to go on the run to seek out the one person who might be able to help: an outcast exiled ten years ago for the crime of using dross to cast spells. Now Grady must decide whether to stick with the magical status quo or embrace her own hidden talents . . . and risk shattering their entire world.]]>

It took close to 2 months to slog through this book, and that should tell you something. I read the sample, thought maybe, actually bought the book and then I needed a full month before I was willing to read it. Got to the 70% mark (big reveal) in a few days and stopped reading until today.
I might be meaningless to you, but to me it spelled out I didn’t particularly enjoy Three Kinds of Lucky.
The world was really interesting (and that’s I guess what kept me reading) but I didn’t like any of the characters, they were absolutely flat and unbelievable. The MC lacked any agency (or brain), as a reader I was bashed in the head with the hammer of Thor regarding some characters. There was no rhyme nor reason to the Benedict affair and I honestly loathed the dog. I can’t understand all the fuss about “oh my god she killed a pet, she should have warned us. I would have gladly killed him myself (again think of that powerful hammer banging your head repeatedly). To me he wasn’t part of the story, it was a distraction, an constant burr under the saddle.
But then the MC often was too. But that’s my reaction when a woman is written as a floofy, stupid person (because you lack a brain if after some disaster you enter a bathroom and after seeing your reflection of a mirror you start to wail not because you are hurt, but because you look so ugly and your love interest was next to you). Nothing major but damn those burrs

The end was baffling to say the least. I don’t think I’ll be reading the next.]]>

<![CDATA[Homo Deus: A History of Tomorrow]]> 31138556 Yuval Noah Harari, author of the critically-acclaimed New York Times bestseller and international phenomenon Sapiens, returns with an equally original, compelling, and provocative book, turning his focus toward humanity’s future, and our quest to upgrade humans into gods.

Over the past century humankind has managed to do the impossible and rein in famine, plague, and war. This may seem hard to accept, but, as Harari explains in his trademark style—thorough, yet riveting—famine, plague and war have been transformed from incomprehensible and uncontrollable forces of nature into manageable challenges. For the first time ever, more people die from eating too much than from eating too little; more people die from old age than from infectious diseases; and more people commit suicide than are killed by soldiers, terrorists and criminals put together. The average American is a thousand times more likely to die from binging at McDonalds than from being blown up by Al Qaeda.

What then will replace famine, plague, and war at the top of the human agenda? As the self-made gods of planet earth, what destinies will we set ourselves, and which quests will we undertake? Homo DeusĚýexplores the projects, dreams and nightmares that will shape the twenty-first century—from overcoming death to creating artificial life. It asks the fundamental questions: Where do we go from here? And how will we protect this fragile world from our own destructive powers? This is the next stage of evolution. This isĚýHomo Deus.

With the same insight and clarity that made Sapiens an international hit and a New York Times bestseller, Harari maps out our future.

The book is not a stand alone. It starts in media res and it's very, very confusing. Oh, you can get the backstory, you are not dumb after all, but that's it.

The thin plot is unbelievable, the villain both stupid and over the top, the romance cold. The heroine is a wet fish whose wishes get trumped, but hey it's the bad guys' fault, not ours (even if we were the one to put you in danger...)
She gets kidnapped by the "good guys", and the morning after every thing is all right.

Either their love story happened in book one or the romance was the "love at first sight" variety. If they had chemistry I couldn't feel it. But above all the book was boringly written.

I thank the author and the publisher for the free book, but it's not the one for me.

Update: I forgot to mention the constant, if subtle, shaming . She is not good enough, woman enough, she's not good in sex. Why, she's a tomboy, that's why. I wanted to rip something every time there was a hint of shaming.

What I found is the fake-LTGB version of an Harlequin romance (the ones with the unbelievable stories about princes, millionaires and the like).

Let me start with the plot. Yes, Will is beaten and raped. Twice. Is it difficult to read? No. There are no real, detailed descriptions of it. We are told mostly. Some of it (the rape) is off screen. Does it make it any better (or worse)? Again no. Because this is a clear case of telling rather than showing. Nor the characters nor the readers do really feel the brutality.
Will doesn't suffer for it. He has no problem in going on living or having sex. He just avoids going to work for a week. (Less problems than a flu.) There's no added burden of being male (in this society) and being raped. The brutality, like the paranormal, is just a label, a layer. It's not real.

Love story. Er. Sorry, what love story? The two see each other and for no apparent reason start an affair (after the rape no less).

I did really wish authors would let the controversial stuff out of their books, if they are not able to be real about it.
Was it a bad book? No. It wasn't awful. I didn't dislike or hate it. But sure I'm sorry I bought it.

See Ravyn for more reasons why Skin Deep is just as the title say. Just skin deep.

This book is one humongous cliché, from characters to plot.

- Slight overweight (but hourglass -figured) "normal" heroine who at the end of the novella is this super wonderful Mary Sue with special powers.
- Big, large shouldered alpha who loses control as soon as he sees "normal" gal.
- Treason, overcome by said heroine who discovers how much special she is.

Sigh, it was a waste of time (both to read and review).

Police officer Samuel Briggs is getting to know the people on his new, third-shift beat, but he'd prefer they not know too much about him or the painful past that drove him away from New Mexico to start fresh in small-town Stratton, PA.

All he wants is peace, a manageable routine, and time to fix up his project home. There's no room in his broken heart for a new relationship. It's crowded with too many memories. But there's something about the Dixie's Cup short-order cook, who's flirty one minute, distracted the next, that piques Sam's interest.

Part-time cook, part-time hardware salesman and full-time handyman Rey King lives to work but not because he loves it. Relationships? No time. Until one glance at Sam's haunted eyes sends a plumb line straight to his wary heart.

One afternoon of impulsive, no-strings sex begins to grow into a cautious friendship. But when Rey is seriously injured protecting a friend, the cracks in their already shaky foundation begin to show. Falling in love wasn't in either man's recovery plan and this time, the risk could be too great.

Warning: Contains one emotionally wrecked cop, one angsty short-order cook, a few too many secrets, some meddling small-town folk, and plenty of hot man-on-man action. "]]>

But when Jag unexpectedly undergoes his mating shift on board ship instead of safely on his home planet, he must have a woman or go mad with rage and lust. With an eco-saboteur somewhere aboard, there couldn't be a worse time for him to lose his mind.

For the sake of duty, Calla forces herself into Jag's lair. And finds herself blossoming into a true Tyger lily, a woman born to enchant a powerful beast.

The romance is there, is right but it's never shadowing the plot and the world. Or, if you prefer, it's not The plot/world, but just part of it.

The fantasy created by this author is stunning: mages, humans, angels, fae. No one is exactly what you'd expect, except maybe the fae :)
I had loved Fire Kissed, and Soul Kissed was as good.

There's a lot going on in this series, but I never felt the action overwhelming.
In this particular novel I did feel the action lagging midway, the reason -I believe-lies in the Maeve/Cari split personality that calls for a different kind of tension.

Like many other readers, I was charmed by Fletcher and happy to see a parent figure as a hero. :) And the story is full of children, but then Shadow Bound was all about the consequences due to the birth of a child, wasn'it? < grin >

Pansies (Spires #4) 31195691 Can the fully paid-up pansy make things right with the pink-tipped hipster?

A Spires Story

Alfie Bell is . . . fine. He’s got a six-figure salary, a penthouse in Canary Wharf, the car he swore he’d buy when he was eighteen, and a bunch of fancy London friends.

It’s rough, though, going back to South Shields now that they all know he’s a fully paid-up pansy. It’s the last place he’s expecting to pull. But Fen’s gorgeous, with his pink-tipped hair and hipster glasses, full of the sort of courage Alfie’s never had. It should be a one-night thing, but Alfie hasn't met anyone like Fen before.

Except he has. At school, when Alfie was everything he was supposed to be, and Fen was the stubborn little gay boy who wouldn’t keep his head down. And now it’s a proper Fen might have slept with Alfie, but he’ll probably never forgive him, and Fen’s got all this other stuff going on anyway, with his mam and her flower shop and the life he left down south.

Alfie just wants to make it right. But how can he, when all they’ve got in common is the nowhere town they both ran away from.

141 Zoe Archer 1426891458 Mara 1 futuristic, novella, romance
One example only. This story is based on blackmail. The air force strong-arms Mara to help them retrieve a pilot and her craft. If she doesn't, she will be tried as a traitor. I guess this is acceptable. One problem. The moment she out of there, this blackmail stops working. An other problem: the moment she is out of base into her side of the galaxy, she could easily dump the guy or worse sell him and the secret knowledge he easily spilled to her. From there it goes downhill. Of course there is instalust, of course this woman who at 16 abandoned the life of a royal princess to do what she wanted has no problem in letting the air force destroy the life she has built for herself. For a guy she has barely know. Yep. Believable.

CC is what I call a sex sandwich (lots of smut, no substance). Like in your sandwich, you probably want some balance. You might not mind some chili or, on the contrary, you might like it a lot, but still overall you are looking for a balanced taste.

Unfortunately here you have two nice characters with a glimpsed back-story that sounded interesting, and they bored me to death. I had to force myself to finish it.

Hard Time 19091520 In this all-new novel from the author of After Hours and Unbound, a woman with a rocky past finds romance in the last place she’d ever expect... Annie Goodhouse doesn’t need to be warned about bad boys; good sense and an abusive ex have given her plenty of reasons to play it safe. But when she steps into her new role as outreach librarian for Cousins Correctional Facility, no amount of good sense can keep her mind—or eyes—off inmate Eric Collier. Eric doesn’t claim to be innocent of the crime that landed him in prison. In fact, he’d do it again if that’s what it took to keep his family safe. Loyalty and force are what he knows. But meeting Annie makes him want to know more. When Eric begins courting Annie through letters, they embark on a reckless, secret romance—a forbidden fantasy that neither imagines could ever be real…until early parole for Eric changes everything, and forces them both to face a past they can’t forget, and a desire they can’t deny. Praise for Cara McKenna and her novels “Cara McKenna is my go-to author for gritty, hot love stories full of honest emotion.”—Victoria Dahl, USA Today bestselling author “McKenna writes dark, lush, erotic romance.”—Heroes and Heartbreakers “Sweet, smoking hot, standout erotic romance.”—Beth Kery, New York Times bestselling author Before becoming a purveyor of smart erotic romance, Cara McKenna worked as a lousy barista, a decent designer, and an over-enthusiastic penguin handler. She loves writing sexy, character-driven stories about strong-willed men and women who keep each other on their toes…and bring one another to their knees. Plenty of great ratings for this romance. But I still should have sampled the first few chapters before buying.

This is not the story for me. I like my women strong and smart, not TSTL. Annie came off as stupid and, worse, desperate. Rather than a 20 something with a bad experience with an abusive former lover, she seems an inmate coming off a 50-year sentence. She's so desperate for sexual contact that she behaves in an utterly stupid and unprofessional way.

[spoilers removed]

Plus this kind of book has the woman as an hormone-driven idiot as a trope. You know, the one that as soon as she sees the handsome guy stops thinking (here she literally blanks and doesn't hear what other people are telling her). Not the image of a woman I want to embrace, sorry.
Nor the love story I can embrace either. She's not seduced by him or his letters, she's simply - as I said - desperate. His letters might be the "thing" in an other settings, but here they worked on the wrong assumption: a TSTL heroine. I'm sure this is a great book, but I need a different starting point.

Survivors (Aftertime, #1.5) 10967342
Cass Dollar outlasted the fall of civilization. But surviving Aftertime requires the kind of toughness that can conquer the violent landscape of California and still retain its humanity.

When a young boy and his dying grandmother are brought to the Box, the survivalist community where Cass takes shelter, she realizes that without her help he won't be long for this unforgiving new world. But while the Box is a haven from the roaming marauders—and the flesh-hungry Beaters—it forbids children within its confines. The boy will be turned out to fend for himself. All that stands between him and the brutal wilderness is Cass's protective instincts, and the stubborn resolve that's gotten her this far Aftertime.

"Littlefield has a gift...page-turning action and evocative, sensual, harrowing descriptions."

We are in the future, after a zombie apocalypse, and people live in protected areas. We are shown a day in a camp when two new survivors arrive and the impact they make.
There's not much else going on apart from this :)

A good story, but it didn't hook me in to reading the other novels. (Partly because I'm not a zombie fan.)

<![CDATA[The Red Plague Affair (Bannon and Clare, #2)]]> 18883021 The service of Britannia is not for the faint of heart--or conscience...

Emma Bannon, Sorceress Prime in service to Queen Victrix, has a mission: to find the doctor who has created a powerful new weapon. Her friend, the mentath Archibald Clare, is only too happy to help. It will distract him from pursuing his nemesis, and besides, Clare is not as young as he used to be. A spot of Miss Bannon's excellent hospitality and her diverting company may be just what he needs.

Unfortunately, their quarry is a fanatic, and his poisonous discovery is just as dangerous to Britannia as to Her enemies. Now a single man has set Londinium ablaze, and Clare finds himself in the middle of distressing excitement, racing against time and theory to find a cure. Miss Bannon, of course, has troubles of her own, for the Queen's Consort Alberich is ill, and Her Majesty unhappy with Bannon's loyal service. And there is still no reliable way to find a hansom when one needs it most...

The game is afoot. And the Red Plague rises.

314 Lilith Saintcrow 0316253693 Mara 4 So, even under their respective banners, Bannon and Clare are actually a mix of both. She's pretty ruthless and logical for a sorceress (and woman, to quote Clare), and he has quite a well of feelings under all that mind.

I suspect that this book will divide readers in two camps too. You either love or loathe Ms Saintcrow's latest writing. I'm strongly in the first group: I love her prickly heroines, strong and twisted and always so damned interesting. I love her world-building that integrates differences in the almost-known. And I love her plots, stories that never take the usual path.

Her style is not for everyone, above all in this latest series. It may sound purple to some. To me it simply perfect with the setting.

As with The Iron Wyrm Affair, the first part of the book was a bit difficult to get into. As I'm not "familiar" with Clare's mind, and his thoughts and leaps are somewhat difficult to follow through.

More than the first book, The Red Plague Affair has more questions than answers and you'll find yourself willing the next book out now. There are no cliff-hangers, the mystery is solved, the plot closed almost to satisfaction. But some of the actions that happened will have repercussions or simply will need answers. :)

I have one nit that somewhat marred my enjoyment of the story (above all at the beginning): I really do not understand what was the purpose of the Vance Affair.

Toxic (Truckee Wolves, #1) 17705750 This is a substantially expanded and revised version of the short story Sex and Chocolate: Toxic which was previously published.

There are three things that Dr. Briony Theale loves. Her job as a veterinarian, a good bar of rich, dark chocolate, and Rico, the ranger in charge of the Wildlife Rescue center. When a casual dinner with Rico turns surprisingly intimate, Briony realizes that she might just have a chance with him after all, if only she could lose a few pounds. It’s the ultimate sacrifice, but Briony goes cold turkey, and swears off chocolate forever.

Rico Montgomery fell hard for Briony the first time he set eyes on the curvy little doctor. Her rich brown hair and cocoa skin trigger cravings that he can barely control, and her fragrance is like the sweetest, richest chocolate he’s ever scented in his life. That’s a bad thing for Rico, because to a werewolf like him, chocolate is literally a toxin. After his pack warns him off the very human doctor, Rico finds himself even more drawn to Briony.

Rico can’t live with it, and Briony can’t live without it. And when a certain wandering wolf finds a bag of chocolate in the trash near Briony’s clinic, these two will find out just how toxic love can be.

This is Book 1 in the Truckee Wolves series. It follows Educating Evangeline (published in Doms of Dark Haven) and precedes Hunting Holly (published in Doms of Dark Haven 2: Western Night).]]>

This might explain why the book felt at times unpolished, at time incomplete. It mustn't be easy to move from one "size" to an other. There are things to add, to change, maybe to delete.

I can say this novelette (too short to be called a full novel) has potential. It shows us hints of interesting characters and plot. At the moment I can't say they are more than this: hints. But I admit that I wished they would have been more than a sketch...
There's no world-building to talk of, likewise reaction were unrealistic. No surprise or shock at shifters, no rage at being kidnapped on threat of death. As I said sketches with little or no perspective.

Kudos to the author for the unusual mom. I really wished there was more of her.

Rather than a PNR, Toxic would have made a very interesting UF. At the moment is unsure of what it is: it has a bit of all. PNR, UF, Erotica.

As a fellow reader has better said:
There is a prologue which hints at danger that doesn't actually pan out; a shady organization with eyes everywhere that doesn't actually ever show up; an instalove relationship, the build-up of which we never see - we just get a declaration of love and an immediate lifetime committment. No one really falls in love. Toss in a badass mom, a sensitive psychic, a rage-filled werewolf, some extra-light BDSM and a whole lot more and you have quite a tale indeed.

Still, there's enough of interesting to keep an eye in this series and see if it improves.

Twilight Hunter has a interesting world, even if not much in it is fresh or new. If you want to be positive you can say that, even if the world-building is very light, this same "lack" avoided the info-dumps or the lull that the first books in a new series usually suffer from.

I loved the first half, but I was growing more and more bored with the second. There are so many time that the misunderstanding trope can be used before it became stale. Here it was used every few chapters, creating a very jerky stop-and-go. And it made anything less believable. You can't cry foul if you haven't given your characters time to actually know one another and trust.
I liked both the hero and the heroine, as I love angsty characters and strong women. Unfortunately all the remaining characters were barely sketched, so we got the "asshole" boss, the jerk ex fiancé and the twirling moustache villain rather than full people.
At the end I was pretty bored by the cardboard villain, the usual psychopathic serial killer of so many RS, that I was really keen for the book to end. Soon.

With a better world-building and more focus on the characters I may have read the second book. As it is, I doubt I'll do.

2.5

Kara Reed is a supernatural failure. But where her magic falls short, her fists get the job done. The criminal element doesn't stand a chance once she hits San Diego's dark streets.

When two smoking-hot tenants move in next door, she thinks her love life might finally be heating up. Just being near Gavin and Julian is enough to make her want to offer her body on a platter.

Gavin and Julian know it's only a matter of time before the truth comes out. They're fallen angels sent to watch over the king's daughter, one of the last females of her kind. Trouble is, she doesn't seem to think she needs watching-unless they're watching her shimmy out of her clothes.

No matter how tempting her guardians, Kara's not about to let anything stop her from tracking down a sadistic killer who carves into his victims and leaves them for dead. Even when she realizes her target may be the very scourge of heaven from which her angels swore to protect her...

Warning: Contains a kick-ass heroine with a foul mouth, a kind heart and a raging libido, and two fallen angel warriors who wouldn't have her any other way. Watch out for sex in the clouds, a magical island of hedonism and a love triangle that gives new meaning to the term "hot-wings."

There are quite a few bride-order romance novels around. The idea is clearly open to a lot of romantic angst, but this book was a bit over the top in the twist area. There are deception over deception over .. you get my meaning.
The following conflict was nearly absurd. She fears to confess she's a virgin rather than a whore. [Why?]

I found the beginning difficult to read: the leading characters were depicted as very shallow and the writing of a Chinese character was definitely racist to my eyes. Not in any blatantly offensive way, but so much a cliché to be annoying (think of the 1930's movies with the American actor impersonating the Chinese detective). She's barely four years older than her "child", but she sounds way younger and there's not a good reason why.

The couple did improve a bit but the villain was and remained cardboard and totally unexplained [spoilers removed][Why?]

Overall I wasn't impressed with the novel, but it is easy to read. I have no doubt it'll be enjoyed by many romance fans.

Then Missy Leason re-enters his life. Ten years ago, their teenage attraction never went beyond hand-holding. Now their chemistry is off the charts, pushing him closer to the step he’s not sure it’s safe to take, especially with a human.

But Missy is more like Tad than he realizes. She’s wolf too,and a wolf pack is a dangerous place to have secrets. Missy’s Alpha has sniffed out her carefully hidden Omega powers. Her first response: run from the corrupt Alpha’s plan to make her his mate. Step two: get to Tad, and hope like hell his untapped powers are strong enough to negate her own.

Every touch with Missy is hot, hot, hot, but even finding out she’s pure wolf doesn’t solve Tad’s dilemma. Is she using him, or are they truly destined mates? Only one thing is certain. He will defend her to his last breath—on his terms. Even if it means losing his life.

382 Danielle Monsch 1938593057 Mara 0 arc, pnr
Let's start with the good, as it's only fair. World-building and side characters were absolutely great. Moreover, for once you actually have a prologue where you (literally) see the worlds collide. In most UF you are at times told about the accident that started all. It's often very important, but not that often shown. Here you have a account from a witness, the heroine's father.

The world and its inhabitants are intriguing and well-developed. I think they are pretty unique too, given the genre. I think Ms Monsch is talented and she'll grow into her skin.

On the plus side, there's also the absolutely lack of mating bonds, instinct whatever you call them. As a pnr the romance is the focus (not overwhelming though), but there's no lust before reason. She doesn't' stop thinking because Guy gets into a room. (On the other side the sex scene at the end was a little too unbelievable. [spoilers removed])

The downsides. These are not real: they ruined the book for me because I don't like some tropes. It's really not linked to the book.

They are two: the heroine and her family.
-I'm sorry, I hate the naive, sweet, all-round virgin idiot, sorry girl. The perfect daughter, the perfect teacher, the perfect woman. She lives blindly happy in her blindness and never worries. She does what she's told and she's never angry. She shows some vague idea of steel somewhat toward the 60/70% of the story. But it's really too little, too late for me.

-At 26 she really should be far from her family. And this is my second pet peeves. I don't think that love justifies all. This is the worst excuse for the harm some kind of love can do. Her family is suffocating, "cheating" in a way with all their lies and omissions. Yes, they love her and they made her an idiot savant with this love. And the guilt trip.

She lives in a world that has recently discovered magic. She is ignorant about what lives outside her human-only city and remains so for most of the book. Because her family guilts her in to this. Meh.

Will I be reading the next? Yes, I think I'll do. I liked this world and some side characters are right up my alley, like Fallon.

Rescuing a weapons inventor from undead kidnappers is just another assignment, though one with an added complication—keeping his hands off the man’s pretty young apprentice, who insists on tagging along.

At odds with polite society, Satira’s only constant has been the aging weapons inventor who treats her like a daughter. She isn’t going to trust Wilder with Nathaniel’s life, not when the Guild might decide the old man isn’t worth saving. Besides, if there’s one thing she’s learned, it’s that brains are more important than brawn.

As the search stretches far longer than Wilder planned, he finds himself fighting against time. If Satira is still at his side when the new moon comes, nothing will stop him from claiming her. Worse, she seems all too willing. If their passion unlocks the beast inside, no one will be safe. Not even the man they’re fighting to save.

Warning: This book contains a crude, gun-slinging, vampire-hunting hero who howls at the full moon and a smart, stubborn heroine who invents mad-scientist weapons. Also included: wild frontier adventures, brothels, danger, betrayal and a good dose of wicked loving in an alternate Wild West.

Fast paced, action packed futuristic UF.

A great, strong, human heroine compelled to fight for her daughter's life literally in hell.

I found her absolutely realistic in her description: a human woman coming from the slums, pregnant a 15 doing everything to keep her daughter and herself floating. Hating vampires (who, when rogues, prey on humans like her father, and when normal dominate Crimson City with their riches) and Others, but slowly overcoming racism.

I liked that until the mid and over I wasn't sure were the story was heading. I liked the vamp and at the end felt damn sorry for the demon (trapped like her in a bond).

For the faint of heart: there's a scene of forced seduction. You might call it rape, in this case, they are both forced into it. Unpleasant, but not sexist.

A note to purist: it lacks editing (missed/wrong words mostly). It's not big, but in a few phrases you have to re-read to try to understand.]]>

It's not big, but in a few phrases you have to re-read to try to understand.

Children of the Undying, Book 2

While the tattered remains of humanity huddle underground, hiding in their virtual world, Devi prefers living topside, making dangerous hauls through the demon-infested wasteland earth has become. The wealth that comes from smuggling supplies to those shunned as summoner-born or demon-touched doesn’t hurt, either.

The man she meets to arrange one of those under-the-table hauls is complicated…and handsome as hell. Literally. A glimpse of the predator beneath his silver gaze and she’s tempted to break her cardinal never mix business with pleasure.

Zel’s first look at the wild-haired hauler threatens to distract him from his mission—and reminds him just how long it’s been since he got laid. As the leader of an outcast settlement, he can’t afford to trust too easily. Devi’s got a reputation for running a tight, disciplined crew, but her very willingness to deal with him means she has something to hide.

Not to mention a hot, tempting package like her could be the cleverest trap his enemies have ever set.

Contains demon bars, virtual (and literal) fights to the death, forbidden love, renegade AIs, a badass truck-driving heroine who will do anything to protect her crew and the half-demon warrior who will move heaven and hell to make her his.]]>

Difficult to rate this mix of urban fantasy, futuristic post apocalyptic world with a strong dash of PNR.

Pros:
-- Good world-building
-- Plot: clear, intriguing, without any hole
-- Good characters development, no black or white card-boards, but real fictional people with flaws.

Con:
--None really. It's my preferences that fault this as a PNR more than UF story (which I prefer).

I found the team Rogers a hit or miss for me, but this series (like
Wilder's Mate) is definitely my cup.

I remember the first three books as not my cuppa or simply ok, but I found this story went beyond fluffy into pure stupid. The more I read the less I could phantom it. At 70% I simply gave up, there was no redeeming it for me.

I have no problem in reading erotica or erotic romance (this book is neither). So sex is definitely not a problem for me. But the way the so called heroine is portrayed as a woman looking for sex, with no sense of feeling, irritated me. Mostly because this is not the way the story is told. As I said it doesn't want to be erotica. So we are told about this woman who has a relationship with a guy. He's not her fuck buddy, they live together. But hey he's wolf so as soon he finds his mate he's out of the door. And.... nothing. Even if doesn't want to be a tragedy, this total lack of real feeling is disturbing. Telling me she's happy for him, that this is all she wanted for him is fake. Even when your best friend gets married there some real feeling behind: a touch of jealousy, sadness for the end of a period, some happiness.

The heroine is so fake and flat that she sounded psychotic to my eyes. And the only thing this book was interested in was sex in a romance clothes. Unfortunately there's nothing romantic here. Nowhere. But then there's not much of anything else either...

But the same beginning told me this wasn't going to be a book I might have fully appreciated. As in it the author dissolves immediately whatever tension the plot might have gathered along.
Pity. Sayonara Ms Arend, the best of luck to your career. I don't think we'll meet again. ]]>

Especially when NewWorld Media, the company that’s owned him since childhood, decides to lease him privately on evenings and weekends to boost their flagging profits.

Daniel’s not stupid; he knows there’s only one reason someone would pay so much for what little free time he has. But dark memories of past sexual service leave him certain he won’t survive it again with his sanity intact.

He finds himself in the home of Carl Whitman, a talk show host whose words fail him when it comes to ordering Daniel into his bed. Carl can’t seem to take what he must want, and Daniel’s not willing to give it freely. His recalcitrance costs him dearly, but with patience and some hard-won understanding, affection just might flourish over fear and pain. The story is set in a world divided between freemen and slaves and the plot make use of this background in a very serious way. There is no titillating sex here, no fake "you wanted this" rape (typical of some romances). There is a real rape scene which is difficult to stomach. And it has some consequences (but not enough to be totally believable).

Ms Haimowitz knows how to write. But I'm not sure I would label this book as erotic romance.

Bloodhounds, Book 2

Ophelia retired from life as a prostitute, but her new position is even more complicated. Managing the bloodhound manor in Iron Creek is difficult and time-consuming, a job she enjoys less with each passing day. Then there’s her inconvenient attraction to Hunter. The newly turned hound seems eager to enjoy her company, but wary of anything more intimate.

Having survived the violence of his first full moon out of a cage, Hunter isn't looking forward to his first new moon. Ophelia offers to be the woman who sates his needs during the three long days of sexual fury, but he can't abide the thought of hurting her in a state of mindless lust. Especially since she longs to settle into a respectable life, and his needs are anything but respectable.

Their mutual goal is avoid entanglements. It’s a solid plan, at least until a vampire drug lord and a couple of nosy Guild representatives force them to work together to defend their friends and everything they hold dear—including each other.

Contains a mostly feral, vampire-hunting hero and a tough survivor of a heroine whose retired-hooker heart is more steel than gold. Also dangerous frontier intrigue, fancy brothels, mad-scientist weapons and a good dose of wicked loving in an alternate Wild West.

Rush (Phoenix Rising, #3) 19055587 "Joan Swan writes riveting twists and turns like no one else!" --New York Times bestselling author Stephanie Tyler

Jessica Fury, Washington lobbyist, has money, connections, and her own firm. But five years ago she had something better: happiness. Her firefighter husband, Quaid, was handsome, courageous, and crazy about her. Then one day he walked into a chemical inferno--and never walked out. Jessica has been through hell to get back on her feet. And then a rumor surfaces that could bring a miracle or shatter her world--again.

Q has been a prisoner forever. He's honed his mind and body into weapons. He's developed abilities no one else understands. But he's still at the mercy of a cabal of ruthless men, who blank his memory, test him like a lab rat, and tell him lies. Although his past has been erased and his future looks grim, instinct tells him he has a woman to live for. What his mind can't remember, his body can't forget. . .

The heat is on.

302 Joan Swan 0758288263 Mara 4 pnr I am surprised by how much I enjoyed Rush. I feared I wouldn't be able to fully appreciate it as it was the third book in a series. But the author worked beautifully to integrate the back story in the plot. Clearly, if you read the first two, you'll gain more inside into characters and story arch, but I was able to follow everything without a single glitch.

Rush is a mix of futuristic, pnr and romantic suspense and it's able to sustain all :) I'm always a bit wary of second chance stories, but in this case I was fully engaged. Both because there's been no betrayal in the past and because the author gave the couple a base to start, without forcing the readers' hand. It was almost a new love story, as the two are now quite different from their past selves.

Maybe not all characters were fully rounded, but I loved the beginning. I really felt for the heroine and her denial. I almost hated every single person in her group, their "cruelty". This is quite a feat for me:)

World-building is a bit on the light side and the quantum theory bit will probably make some of my friends pale. But I was engaged in the plot outside the couple and I'm keen to know what next.

Original review

One of the better books from EC I've read lately. Still, I can't say I'm particularly overwhelmed by this book. It's an ok read, but one that tells the same story you have read in other PNR. Same old, same old.

It has a interesting plot and a potential in conflict that would have been really interesting. Unfortunately, there is no conflict at all: between the hero and heroine (a "rogue" wolf entering without permission into an other pack's land) due to the mating heat (say hello to your brain and will power), between the hero and his friend (even with a traitor in the mist), among the Pack, etcetera.

There was no real feelings involved in the couple, at least nothing I could perceive. But then if a couple is having sex even before they met, do they need feelings? (Cheap sarcasm, I know). So, an ok read. But nothing I'll remember after today.

Updated 4/2014. Lowered rating to one star. I tried to re-read it and found it pretty awful.

In many reviews you'll read how absurd the setup was, and unfortunately I cannot disagree. It takes a lot of strength on an author's writing to pass off a USP delivery guy as a detective, and this is what the author attempted. She worsened the situation mistaking the role of a diplomat, what the heroine wishes to be. No way she could be one, even in this world where they are merely pawns. Her complete lack of any sense of political awareness made her very difficult to relate to. She is so much a yes-man to be embarrassing.

Unfortunately all of this made me detached and therefore bored for most of the book. Scenes I would have found great every place else, here I skipped as they watered down the pacing, already not that tight.]]>

Some of the bodies turning up bring up haunting memories of a past she longs to forget, but as always, that past is chasing her at her heels, like a hated shadow.

As the body count racks up, there’s an imbalance of power, particularly among the vampire population, and Kit must yet again deal with ugly memories as one of the monsters who tried to break her is set free to deal with the imbalance of power. Yet while a power struggle rages in East Orlando, there’s another, more subtle battle taking place and Kit feels like the center of it all.

Arrogant? Maybe. But the dead bodies don’t bear the mark of her grandmother’s pet killer by sheer coincidence…and she doubts her nemesis being released is either.]]>

<![CDATA[A Hint of Frost (Araneae Nation, #1)]]> 16100180 Hope dangles by a silken thread.

Araneae Nation, Book 1

When the head of the Araneidae clan is found poisoned in her nest, her eldest daughter, Lourdes, becomes their clan s new maven. If her clan is to survive, she has but one choice: she must marry before her nest is seized. All she needs is a warrior fierce enough to protect her city and safeguard her clansmen. Such a male is Rhys the Cold.

Born the youngest son of an impoverished maven, the only things Rhys has to his name are his sword and his mercenary reputation. His clan is starving, but their fondness for the flesh of fellow Araneaeans makes them unwelcome dinner guests. Torn between loyalty to his clan and fascination with his future bride, Rhys s first taste of Lourdes threatens to melt the cold encasing his heart.

Amid the chaos of battle, Lourdes s sister disappears and is feared captured. Lourdes and Rhys pursue their enemies into the southlands, where they discover an odd plague ravaging southern clans as it travels north, to Erania. Determined to survive, Lourdes will discover whether she s worth her silk or if she s spun the thread by which her clan will hang.

Warning: This book contains one mercenary hero with a biting fetish, one determined heroine who gets nibbled, and an answer to the age-old question, What does dragon taste like? Matricide and sibling rivalry are available upon request. The house special is revenge, best served cold.]]>

I don't know why I expected this book to be a UF, but it may be one of the reasons I liked A Hint of Frost, but never went above board with it.

This is a fantasy romance starring spider people. So, if you are aracno- and latin-phobic this is your chance to let this series go (spider people with Latin names, remember?).

I don't mind spider people (real spider I do), and I did study Latin a few centuries back, so "here I come" was my answer.
Unfortunately, expectations are really a bitch. So I kept wondering why the hell in the middle of the crisis the stupid heroine kept thinking about the guy's... physique. Err, what can I say. I'm not the brightest kitten in the litter, it seems... :)

The good:
--World-building. Fresh, detailed, really good.

The bad:
-- Heroine is boring in her naivité. You'd expect that a woman groomed to rule in the future would be more prepared. She thinks herself as a warrior, but she's barely a girl outside the nursery.
--The YA feel. This book is about the heroine finding her love and her life. Teens themes, sorry.

The maybe
--Lust isn't love. And this book never convinced me the couple fell in love. How? This is a teen crush, sorry.

Overall this is a interesting read, above all for romance fan. Personally I think it's wasted as a romance. :)]]>

I read it again today, and if it lost some shine, it's still a pity the author has disappeared completely from the publishing world.
The story is not really tight, and it suffers from this, plus some things are way too easily resolved. Still, it reads as easily :)

If you plan to buy the book, remember it has been written in 2010, before the big pnr explosion, and that there's no sequel. (The story is totally contained, though.)

<![CDATA[Hot Vampire Seduction (Vampire Wardens, #2)]]> 12604778 Explicit -- hot! Ménage included you have been warned.
About the series:
The Wardens series begins with the three Brooks brothers, Evan (34), Aiden (32) and Taylor (28). They were early settlers of the town of Braunfels, Texas. When the town was haunted by a series of brutal animal attacks, that left a half-dozen townsmen murdered, the Brooks brothers took things into their own hands. Armed and ready for action, they set out into the wilderness, determined to find this animal and kill it. What they found was a female vampire who decided the brothers were scrumptious morsels, worth keeping around for a lifetime. She attacked the brothers and turned them to vampires.

No sooner did she turn them, though, than another vampire appeared and killed her. This vampire declared himself a “Wardenâ€ of the Vampire Council. Wardens uphold the rules of the Vampire race and report to the Council. Killing a human is punishable by death and their â€Makerâ€ had broken that rule. The brothers were then taken to the Council, where they were taught how to survive without killing, how to mingle with humans as if one of them, and when to move on from a location so that they would not be suspected as vampires. Most importantly, they learned who their enemies were and how to defeat them.

In the end, the brothers were granted a financial dowry that had belonged to their Maker and given the choice of freedom, under Council rule, or an alternative—to become Wardens.
Now, the brothers travel together as Wardens, tracking outlaw vampires, killing them and protecting innocent humans. It is their eternal duty.
About HOT VAMPIRE SEDUCTION:

The underground vampire population of Austin, Texas has taken to hosting orgies with human women who've been forced to indulge in a new aphrodisiac. The drug, Blood Red, is a mixture of a rare type of werewolf blood and that of a vampire. Blood Red creates an insatiable desire for sex in the user to the point of pain in the absence of pleasure. Sometimes that pain leads to death.
Vampire Warden, Aiden Brooks, has spent more than a hundred years enforcing the laws of his race, and life has taught him that anyone that he allows into his world ends up dead. Despite knowing this all too well, having painfully loved and lost in his past, when his search for the creator of Blood Red places coroner Kelly Riggs directly in both his path, and that of a dangerous clan of vampires, his desire for her goes well beyond offering her protection. He's drawn to her bravery, seduced by her feisty spirit and beauty, but he is determined to resist her, fearing he will put her in harms way.

But Kelly is already on the radar of the enemy, and when she gets too close to the evil vampire clan's secrets, she is given Blood Red. Now Aiden's hunger for her might be the only thing that can keep her alive but who will save her from him?]]>

Original review

I started this book with lower expectation. It is an Ellora's Cave imprint after all. The blurb was interesting, tough, and the sample intriguing.

The plot was good and the sex scenes balanced enough (meaning you don't have a sex sandwich: sex, sex, action, sex, sex). Unfortunately, at some point I started expecting more :) The book was leaning toward UF and I liked this a lot. But, at the end it is an Ellora's cave imprint and this means no editing: the story needed world-building (or you miss the reason behind some things), tighter scenes and an overall check (there were a few phrases missing). The characters needed some more flesh (and back story!) and to be more coherent, i.e. the lead woman was written off as a strong witch, both in power and personality. We are told, for example, that Serena is the only witch working for the Protectorate. But then she is very easily manipulated and bullied by Marcus. (The scene with her mother was really unbelievable. A perfect wtf? moment).

As my Halloween treat, it wasn't good enough. And it did not survive the second reading test: abandoned without much thought.

Merged review:

I gave it a 2 star review when I read it the first time, but I don't think it is a good ranking and lowered to one. It is unreadable a second time around. There's a good idea somewhere but as this is erotica it's drowned in sex and absurdity. I can't call it erotic romance either as there's no romance, they have sex as soon as they meet and call it love. Plus, she keeps saying no and doing the opposite for the sake of the story. Doormat doesn't cover it. I didn't feel the chemistry nor the romance, but I would have liked a stronger story.

Come Unto These Yellow Sands 10671152
Lover of fine poetry and lousy choose-your-own-adventure novels, Professor Sebastian Swift was once the bad-boy darling of the literati. The only lines he does these days are Browning, Frost, and Cummings. Even his relationship with the hot, handsome Wolfe Neck Police chief, Max Prescott, is healthy.

When one of his most talented students comes to him bruised and begging for help, Swift hands over the keys to his Orson Island cabin - only to find out that the boy's father is dead and the police are suspicious. In an instant, the stable life Swift has built for himself hangs on finding the boy and convincing him to give himself up before Max figures out Swift's involvement in the case.

Max enjoys splitting an infinitive or two with his favorite nutty professor, but he's not much for sonnets or Shakespeare. He likes being lied to even less. Yet his instincts - and his heart - tell him his lover is being played. Max can forgive lies and deception, but a dangerous enemy may not stop until Swift is heading up his own dead poet's society.

Family Man 17558204
How does a man get to be forty without knowing whether he's gay? That's a question Vince Fierro is almost afraid to answer. If he is gay, it'll be a problem for his big, fat Italian family. Still, after three failed marriages, he can't help but wonder if he's been playing for the wrong team.

There's only one way to settle it, once and for all-head for Chicago's Boystown bars, far from anyone who knows him. Naturally, he runs smack into someone from the neighborhood.

Between working two jobs, going to school, taking care of his grandmother, and dealing with his mother's ongoing substance abuse, Trey Giles has little time for fun, let alone dating someone who swears he's straight. Yet after one night of dancing cheek-to-cheek to the sultry strains of Coltrane, Trey finds himself wanting to help Vinnie figure things out-no promises, and no sex.

It seems like a simple plan, until their "no-sex" night turns into the best date of their lives and forges a connection that complicates everything.

This book deals with alcoholism, broken promises, and overbearing little sisters.]]>

So my first thought is a warning: be aware that you need both books if you want a complete story, as neither is a stand alone one. I say it first as many reviews might end on the negative side when the reader is taken by surprise at the lack of ending of A Vampire's Promise.

This reviewer isn't a happy camper with this trend in publishing, but I knew it since the beginning and I decided to ask for a copy anyway. It seemed to me a good way to try something that otherwise I would have missed.

Unfortunately, this isn't the only problem A Vampire's P and S have. The biggest is that there is no plot to sustain all those pages. If the editor had cut a lot of inane dialogues (some of it was soo cheesy to be unbelievable) and some totally unnecessary scenes we would have one single half-decent PNR. Well, maybe not. There seems to be no real storyline here except sex. And this is the second biggest problem.

This is the kind of PNR that stands in the "mated/fated/all that jazz" field, and in the lower end of it. To me it means that the author takes the easy way out and doesn't make the couple fall in love. They see each other and bam, wham they start to have sex and declare themselves in love. Moreover, in some of these books, these included, the excuse of fate gives us the most idiotic heroines. The ones that declare "if someone else told me this, I would have say run. But he told me this and he's different". So, we have an heroine that accept the offer of a stranger, then later on in the story has unprotected sex (repeatedly) with him, accept his word that he can't get her pregnant or pass diseases, all of it without knowing absolutely nothing of him until almost the end of the first book. Smart, she's not. Why do we need to make our heroines look stupid and suffering of a split personality (see inner monologues) is beyond my comprehension.

I never felt any connection between the leading couple and could not understand how she accepted him (both in the first book [spoilers removed], and in the second [spoilers removed]. But then there were so many of the usual cliché to be unbelievable. Virgin heroine, check, Fated couple, check, Jealous other vampire, check. Vampire as sons of the fallen, check. The only thing missing was the compound.

Honestly I kept skipping the inane sex scenes (inane as they were in the way of the threadbare story, she became wet and aroused every page, also when the story clearly necessitated a completely different reaction), so I kept skipping a lot. But above all I kept looking at the % to see how long to the end. I forced myself to read them as I had requested them both, and it seemed really wrong of me to DNF (even when I kept wanting to do it, even in the second half of book two.)

If Book One was completely centred on the couple, Book two threw us a few bones and tried at a plot. Why tried? Because it moved from giving us nothing to throwing everything and the kitchen sink. But it didn't get any more interesting (or asexual...).
Pity, as there was a hint of an intriguing world.

For all the verbal jigs at Twilight this book set was very Twilight-esque including some details.

DI is one of those books that aren't even good enough to rant, there's really nothing to rant about. It's simply badly written.

This the only cont romance I know with infodumps. Only rather than the world building you are ragaled with the MC's past or thoughts, everything in the first chaps, with no reasons for this. But then this story moves forward on the author sayso. It lacks depth, motivation, a serious plot. Writing is absurd (a string of words put together do not make a book) so is dialogue.

There are a string of events, subplot is too strong a word, that have no reason to be there, and diluite an already non existent tension. Characters are lifeless, not even a sketch, and lack coherence to boot.

Not my cup. But atthis price you can try it on, and see if just different tastes.]]>

Five years ago, Benji Green lost his beloved father, Big Eddie, who drowned when his truck crashed into a river. All called it an accident, but Benji thought it more. However, even years later, he is buried deep in his grief, throwing himself into taking over Big Eddie's convenience store in the small town of Roseland, Oregon. Surrounded by his mother and three aunts, he lives day by day, struggling to keep his head above water.

But Roseland is no ordinary place.

With ever-increasing dreams of his father's death and waking visions of feathers on the surface of a river, Benji's definition of reality is starting to bend. He thinks himself haunted, but whether by ghosts or memories, he can no longer tell. It's not until the impossible happens and a man falls from the sky and leaves the burning imprint of wings on the ground that he begins to understand that the world around him is more mysterious than he could have possibly imagined. It's also more dangerous, as forces beyond anyone's control are descending on Roseland, revealing long hidden truths about friends, family, and the man named Calliel who Benji is finding he can no longer live without.]]>

Definitely not a book for everyone. If you read the reviews, you'll see a definite division between glowing reviews and DNF ones. A few people like me stand in the middle watching this ping pong match.

I stand with the glowing reviewers: this is an ode to a loving father. And if you have lost one or both your parents, and had a loving relationship with them, you'll spend your time crying. I was on holiday while reading this, in public, and I was crying. To you it may means nothing, to me it does.
It's beautiful and uplifting. (Embarassing too...)

I stand with the DNF and the 1 starrers: yes, midway, empathy gives way to irritation and then hatred. This idiot is immature, stupid, self centered. And yes, you want to slap him fiercely and send him to therapy.

The two points contradict each other from midway onwards. You cry, and then you bitch. Rinse and repeat. It's not an easy book. At all.

Romance wise, I felt the thread was somewhat minor, compared to the love between father and son.

Now the personal: my family is Roman Catholic (my parents weren't really, but their families were), but I'm a non believer. So all that emphasis on faith was mildly irritating, the angel boyfriend was basically cute, the God angle was a mess (agnostic here remember). But if you are a believer, I'm not sure what reaction you may have.

Overall I would suggest you give it a try.

I read this anthology for Singh and Leigh stories. I liked Ms Singh, but it wasn't anything really new. But Ms Leigh had a lot in it. I had always wondered about Aiyala (from Mercury's story) and what had happened to her. This novella told that ending. (I didn't read the other 2 authors.)

<![CDATA[Hearts in Darkness (Nikki & Michael, #2)]]> 18940495 Ěý
Private Investigator Nikki James has a lot to contend with. Her lover, Michael Kelly, walked out without so much as a goodbye, and what seemed like a simple case of stopping a runaway teen brought her face-to-face with another clutch of deadly vampires. But if that seemed bad, it is about to get a lot worse, because when Michael returns, it is not for her, but for the case.
Ěý
Wealthy men are starting to vanish from a resort in Jackson Hole—which is exactly where Nikki’s runaway teen seems to be as well. Something nefarious is going on at the luxury spa, but what? The last thing Michael needs is a confrontation with Nikki—especially when his control over his bloodlust is still so tenuous. But posing as a newlywed couple at the swanky resort may be the best way for both of them to solve their respective cases. This time, Nikki is determined to make Michael see that life apart is worse than death. Yet before she can make him see the light, a specter from Michael’s past rises that could destroy any hope she has of a future with him. Because this time the threat isn’t physical. It’s a matter of the heart.

Nikki has grown. She's not the whiner of the first book, nor she's fearful of her emotions. I'm not sure I buy into her new-found confidence in wanting Michael this much (I'm too proud a person for that :P), but it was a pleasure seeing her moving into kick-ass status.
Michael is still a little bit too Edward-ian (of Twilight fame), but he's moved into adulthood too.

The story has an interesting plot and a good pace, that could have been tighter if the Michael and Nikki dilemma had been seriously cut. I still believe this series has too much romance cooties for my tastes, but I admit you are hearing the cynic in me with this oh-so-tough declaration. :)

Yet after one night of dancing cheek-to-cheek, Trey agrees to let Vinnie court him and see if he truly belongs on this side of the fence—though Trey intends to keep his virginity intact.

It seems like a solid plan, but nothing is simple when family is involved. When Vinnie’s family finds out about their relationship, the situation is sticky enough, but when Trey’s mother goes critical, Vinnie and Trey must decide whose happiness is most important—their families or their own.

Sometimes 2 stars, sometimes 4.

Stringing a whole bunch of old fairy tales together into the backbone of a mystery story was genius. The romance was sweet, but kind of unimaginative when compared with the rest of the story line. Johnnie, the perfectly dressed, beautiful "better than vampire" gay detective was both phenomenal and bugged the hell out of me at the same time. He is so clever and impetuous, and is full of such whiny, delusional self pity that I felt like smacking him. Especially when he periodically acted like a 12 year old girl instead of a 26 year old man.

This UF is really fresh, the characters are imagined in a perfect way, above all the vamps whose stories are the main event of the plot. The big problem was Johnnie whose character crumbles at the end of the book. He is self centered for most of the story, but at the beginning you sympathize. Then all of a sudden it becomes too much, when he moves from self centered to whiny and spineless. He never fulfill the possibilities, but -worse than a damsel- he has to be saved constantly.

-The ending was dragged down, it should have edited "tighter", this way it lost its edge.

-The love spell his family has put on him is an ugly affair. I'm not sure you can get over such things.

Still, all this notwithstanding, I liked Dance in the Dark.

Note: the leading couple is gay. Actually, like 99 of this kind of "gay fantasy", there aren't any straight couple or characters. My very humble opinion is that it's both a pity and a mistake. What you get are ghettos. ]]>
