Playing With Fire, Book 1

Forbidden desires, secret needs…that’s not what girls are made of. At least, that’s what Michaela’s past boyfriends told her when she revealed her darkest, dirtiest fantasies. She knows she’s better off without the exes, but she’s lonely—and horny. It doesn’t help that her roommate, Austin, is the most gorgeous man she’s ever laid eyes on. Too bad he’s bisexual…or so he says.

There’s a reason Austin hasn’t been with a woman in a long time. The only one he wants is Michaela. He’s fought his attraction for months, waiting for a sign, desperate to show her she’s everything he wants in a lover. One illicit kiss leads to an explosive night of sex that leaves her wanting more—yet afraid. But Austin is a patient man, more than willing to tear down her boundaries piece by piece. Exposing her to pleasures she’s never known.

Trust leads her to whisper her most deeply held fantasy. One that rouses a new emotion Austin didn’t jealousy. Possessiveness. He’s the only man he wants in her life. And he’ll do whatever it takes to prove it…]]>

Having read nothing but books by Ms Erickson for days now, I've yet to find a 'perfect' character. They all have their issues, making it easy to connect with them, which brings their story up a level, which again makes them perfect. Or perfectly imperfect, if you wish.

The cover image is a little misleading. This isn't about a girl and two boys. Forbidden is about Michaela and Austin, roommates and best friends. Michaela watches her best friend's revolving door of (male) lovers, and quietly pines for him. Austin watches his best friend's boyfriends, knowing he's better than them for her, and quietly pines for her.

Austin, in his desperation, asks his very gay ex-boyfriend, Brad, about how to win Michaela's heart. Brad, never having been with a woman, is of little to no help. Though he tries. It's just that girls squeak him out.

Austin, finally ready to put himself on the line, doesn't take no for an answer, and soon the two best friends are at it like crazed monkeys. They aren't afraid to play and Austin soon brings out Michaela's kinky self. They even end up at a sex club watching and engaging in group sex with a man and a woman. Something that has Michaela running for the hills once she sobers up.

That's one thing that kinda annoyed me, Michaela's inane insecurity and tendency to run away all the time. When you have a man like Austin (who by author's description in the book looks a lot like bad boy Jared Leto), why would you run away from him? Fuck, I'd be running towards him!

I couldn't put this book down, and I was seriously bummed when I got to the end of the book. I want more of Austin and Michaela!

Merged review:

Impossible to put down. There just is something special about friends becoming lovers. Especially if it is a relationship that goes against the odds. It makes for an even better read with Karen Erickson's knack at making the characters seem 'real'.

Carter is one of the hottest men ever to walk into Paige Long's coffee shop. The attraction is mutual, and when Carter reveals himself to be a Dom, the submissive in Paige is aroused. Yet she brushes him off—her last relationship was abusive and she's unwilling to get involved with another Dom.

But when Carter returns the next day—in his firefighter uniform—Paige's fantasies really heat up. She can't resist his offer to get to know him over a drink at Mavericks, a local sex club. Their conversation quickly escalates to a session in one of the private rooms, and Paige is both thoroughly satisfied by Carter's skills in domination, and impressed with his selflessness as a lover.

Paige is ready to move on with her life. But can she trust in herself and submit to happiness?]]>

Sure, her last Dom was an abusive prick, and the excuse for Paige taking the beating is that she was new and didn't know better. But I'm not buying it. When a "spanking" leaves you blue and purple, you know it's not right. And a quick search on the internet would confirm that. And what irks even more, is that they belong to a sex-club, yet no one catches it.

New Dom Carter is supposed to be kinder than the other one, but he's still too heavy-handed to be believed as a "hero". I'd be running away, screaming, from someone like that. If Paige has never had anything up her ass before; plowing all the way in with only a little bit of stretching, and her not feeling like she would die from the pain... Not buying it. Sub or no, I would kill the man who did that to me. Above all, a good Dom takes care of his sub.

The book is well written, and you do get somewhat engaged. I just wish that Paige had been less chaotic, and the "scenes" had been more streamlined. And, an abusive prick is still an abusive prick, no matter how "nice" he is to the woman outside of the "scenes".

This book wasn't as engaging as the first one. The main character, Paige, is too messed up. There just was no connecting to her. Even for a BDSM story, I found the Dom, Carter, to be too violent.

When Jaxon Durham isn't raising thoroughbreds with his brothers, he's using his heightened senses to search for missing hikers in the Smokies. This time the call is for a firefighter gone missing on the front lines.

In his wolf form, he's the first to track the firefighter to a cave, but he's stopped cold by a stunning realization-it's his mate. To his relief, the body covered in fireproof gear is female.

Brianna White can't decide if she's died and gone to heaven, or unconscious and having a delicious dream, when the wolf standing before her shifts into a naked man. Either way, she can't resist the urge to go along for the ride. She never expected to fall so instantly, and so hard, for the sexy hunk.

But an old enemy is lurking beyond the walls of their refuge. The clock is ticking while Jaxon races to evade the deadly threat, even deadlier flames, and overcome the stubborn will of a woman who's not sure she's ready to give up life as she knew it.

Warning: Dark, sexy wolves in the Appalachians evoke steaming sex in a cave, light bondage and dominance, various plugs and vibrators, and an interesting masturbation chamber...]]>

Who's Your Daddy? 14739591
After her divorce, Carmen James is still trying to get back on her feet when fate pulls the rug out from under her. She’s pregnant—and she’s not sure who’s the father. Just one more thing for her impossible-to-please family to worry about. On the bright side, there are only two candidates: her best friend, Donovan, and Isaac. His boyfriend.

A little too much wine and the desire to comfort lead Donovan and Isaac to a night they both hope Carmen doesn’t regret. When she drops the bomb, though, Donovan’s plate, already crowded with a teenage son and a disapproving father, gets fuller. And Isaac, who’s still coming to terms with his bisexuality, wonders how he’ll handle fatherhood at forty.

Above all, both men worry that whatever the answer to the ultimate question—which of them got her pregnant—it will forever alter their longstanding friendship with Carmen. While they’re waiting for that answer, though, continuing their casual sexual relationship with her feels natural. But when emotions get involved, the cracks in their logic begin to drive Isaac, Don and Carmen apart just when they need each other the most.

Warning: This book contains three people in one hell of a pickle (anyone have any ice cream?), parents who suck at parenthood, parents-to-be who think they’ll suck at parenthood, a relationship-friendship-sexual-kind-of-thing that keeps getting more complicated, and a Chuck Norris joke.]]>

Tastes of Seduction, Book 1

Angus Lowe feels like he’s just stepped onto the set of Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous. He’s checking out a luxurious boutique hotel and winery, lured by the possibility of landscaping the gardens. And he’s crazy mad about the woman giving him the tour.

Problem is, Lily Hemington is way out of his league. Not only does she live the lifestyle of the rich and famous, she is also crazy mad about the owner of the hotel, Blake Seymour.

Issues get cloudier—or could that be steamier?—when Angus meets Blake. It’s clear Blake has deep feelings for Lily, but it’s also obvious he can’t take his eyes off Angus. While Angus doesn’t find this at all unpleasant, he’s painfully aware Lily and Blake are perfect for each other, and that he doesn’t belong in their perfect world.

Now it’s up to Lily and Blake to convince Angus the only world that counts is the one they all create together.

This book should be enjoyed with a bottle of chilled white wine. You’ll need it to cool down when the heat among these three characters burns out of control.

This is slightly more than "just" a smutty menage, but not a whole lot. The story itself is too short to make any connections with the characters, and there is little to no unresolved sexual tension going to keep the reader at the edge of their seat. They pretty much just jump into things from the get-go.

This is the first book in a series, but reading the blurbs, the other books focus on new characters. With how short this story is, and how little you get to know the characters, I was hoping that the rest of the books would be about the same people. Since it's not, and seeing how short these are, I'm not going to dive into the rest of the series. I need to feel like I connect with the characters for a book, much less a series, to hold my attention. 2 1/2 stars.

I know some people will read these stories, and think oh this is erotica, not really looking beyond the smut. And I know some people, like me, will look beyond the smut, and connect with the characters and their joys and pains.

Having written Curio, and having captured all those little nuances that makes a person, I can't even imagine having to go back into that mindset and write five more stories like this. The way that Cara McKenna manages to get under her characters' skins, is a rare skill. And it is one she has honed well.

A lot of the time, when reading erotica, you'll get the smut, you'll get characters you'll either hate or love, but you won't get that glimpse into their imperfections and fears. This is what you get when you read something Cara McKenna has written. This is what you get when you read Curio, Coercion or this one, Craving.

Coercion was from Didier's point of view, and we finally got to find out a little more about what makes him tick, so to speak. We found out about his hopes and dreams and insecurities. With Craving we're back with Caroly and her hopes and dreams and insecurities.

What gets me the most with Caroly and Didier, is how much they feel for each other, and how hard it is for them to admit to one another exactly what they feel. I just want them to talk and move on! I want Didier to quit his 'job' and just ask Caroly to move in with him already. They need each other. More than anything, I really want a happy ending for these two. And I want them to stop hurting with all these insecurities.

But that's the thing with Cara McKenna, she'll give you "real" people that stay with you instead of glossy characters you'll soon forget. And there just is no telling if she'll give you a book with a standard happy ending where everyone lives happily ever after, or if she'll leave you with an ending where the characters have a sad goodbye and move on without each other. With Cara McKenna all bets are off. And I kinda like that about her.

The writer clearly doesn’t know the ins and outs of the music business. Whatever she’s seen on TV and read up on online, is not the reality of things. This is a business I know intimately, and the way the story is written, it just would not happen. Creative license or not, you still need to know what you write and write what you know. This writer does not know what she’s writing.

Oh my god, all the yap-yap-yap and everyone explaining everything all the bloody time! How are people enjoying these books??? Even the smutty scenes are full of yip-yip-yip. Reminds me of ankle-biting dogs always yipping.

And I hate how everyone is apologizing all the time. WTF? Who does that? They’re so remorseful all the time it’s insincere. Over-explaining and beating it to death. None of these conversations are natural! Who talks like that?

The basic idea of these books is good, it’s just the execution that is bonkers.

There is one thing about this book that is worse than everything else combined. And that’s the rape. When a grown ass woman takes advantage of an inebriated 18 year old boy, who is too drunk to know what’s what, that is called rape. Plain, and simple. We’re living in “me too times, and if it’s not okay for women to be taken advantage of, it certainly is not okay for men to be taken advantage of. Everyone is talking about women being raped, but no one is talking about men being raped. And for this writer (I refuse to call her author) to glorify rape of an 18 year old boy is wrong on too many levels. Yes, I realize it’s “just a book and not “real. It still doesn’t make it right for this writer to go there.

Falling asleep in a different bed every night has made it easy for Cain Black to forget his past. It's been ten years since he packed his guitar and left Crystal Lake, Michigan, to chase his dreams. Now tragedy has forced him home again. And though Cain relishes the freedom of the road, one stolen moment with Maggie O'Rourke makes him wonder if he's missing out on something bigger than fame.

For Maggie—single mother and newly settled in Crystal Lake—love is a luxury she just can't afford. Sure, she appreciates the tall, dark and handsome looks of prodigal son Cain Black. But how long can she expect the notorious hellion to stay?

The last thing either of them wants is something complicated. But sometimes love has its own plans.]]>

I love that even though Cain is a grown-ass man, his mother still has the power to put him in his place. And I love that he respects fears his mother enough to do as she says. Sort of.

I liked Maggie. Didn't love her. Guess I didn't really connect with her. Loved her kid though! I get her background and I get her fear, but I just never really felt I got to know her as well as I got to know Cain.

Regardless, it's a good story. It didn't wow me, but I liked it enough to remember it days after I finished reading it.

Sure it's a good way to showcase the author's skills, but it can backfire. It was an ok read over all, but only two or three stories really stand out and memorable. The rest, I'd have to re-read the blurbs to remember what they were. Thankfully I made sure to write down a few words as I finished reading each story before moving on to the next. Or I'd be in trouble with what to write. :D

Body Heat
Buried in an avalanche, the main players find a way to pass their time until they're rescued. Strangers, instant attraction, smokin' hot smut. What's not to like? 4 stars

Breakfast In Bed
More of an interlude than an actual story. Boy wants to keep girl with him, boy thinks it's his shabby furnishing. Boy buys a lot of stuff only to find out it took a pink toothbrush to keep girl. that it's the little things that count. 3 stars

Hard Headed Cowboy
Really? They fall in love after only one romp? This one is a little far fetched. Not my favorite in the book. 3 stars

High Country Ride
Wasn't too taken with this one. It read a little to...abstract. Too poetic. And they jumped from having just met to planning a future together too quickly. 2 stars

Kill Me or Kiss Me
Another too far fetched to even begin to ring true. Even if these stories are lacking in the plot department, I do like to have at least some 'it really could happen' with my porn. On the up-side, both parties got a little ass-play in this one. 2 stars

No Way Out
These stories are going from good to OK to bad. This one is firmly in the 'bad' section. It's just...no. 1 stars

Private Lessons
This one pretty much jumps the gun before you have time to think about what you're reading. It's fast, it's furious, and it's actually pretty sexy. 3 stars

Stubborn Redhead
This one went from angst to smut so fast it made my head spin. Had it done from angst to sweet loving, it would have made more sense than going from angst to graphic porn-words. This one actually made me feel uncomfortable so I skimmed the smut. 1 star

Takin' a Chance
For such a short story, this one had a lot of plot before getting down to the smut. Which I liked a lot! It was really refreshing reading this one compared to some of the others. 4 stars

Where We Left Off
One of the cuter stories in this book. Two people finding back to each other after not talking for two years, and finally hooking up after dancing around the subject for four year. These two aren't afraid to get a little creative for their first time together. Makes for a very fun read. 4 stars

One author writing ten quick stories can be either very bad or very good. The good stories tend to flush out the bad stories, and it makes the bad stories seem that much worse than they probably really are.

I love that there is a story before the characters jump in the sack. And I love that the couple to be aren't afraid to bring a friend to their bed and explore, without there being any consequences. Sometimes sex is just that, sex.

I love that there wasn't too much nookie. Sometimes it can get old and repetitive real quick. And most of all I loved that even if the two scenes were pretty graphic, they did leave something to the imagination.

Merged review:

Menage erotica is usually a hot little number that gets down to business pretty quickly. And more often than not, it's about how many positions and how many times can be squeezed in. Not so with "Double Shot." Refreshingly, Ms d'Abo let's the story pass the 50% mark before anything at all happens.

One Wicked Night 12353696
Ten years ago, Kaelin Daume spent a steamy summer home from college secretly hanging out with town bad boy Tyler Wirth and his best friend Nick Kernsted. The connection was warm, complicated, and came to a crashing end when she walked in on her two forbidden friends with another woman. The shocking scene of sex and bondage has haunted her boring, oh-so-vanilla life ever since.

The fallout from that night tore Tyler's life apart. He left Mapleglen, disowned and disgraced, to build a successful advertising career and a unique relationship with Nick. Nothing could bring him back except his sister's wedding, and he plans to hightail it back to Chicago as soon as it's over. At least one good thing hasn't changed: Kaelin is as sweet as ever. Except she doesn't seem too thrilled to hear it.

As tensions run high, Kaelin can't resist the temptation to commit one crazy act of rebellion. Once the web of secrets, sins and lies starts to unravel, though, their lives will never be the same

Warning: This book contains a nice girl who gets her naughty on with two hot men. M/M/F and M/M scenes may cause an increase in body temperature, pulse rate and respiration. Read with caution! For adult use only.]]>

READ AN EXCERPT

The desk is quite high, and so I have to clamber on a chair to vault myself onto its top.

"Squat facing me with your legs open and your hands squeezing your teats."

I obey. I'm nervous of my glistening pussy lips - and what he would perceive of me when he sees how wet I am. From a drawer, Dean Whitehouse removes a long contraption made from metal and tiny chains. It's shaped in a Y. All three of its ends flare into crocodile-like clamps.

"See these?" He demonstrates how tight the clamps are - like clothespins - by clicking them softly. I begin to tremble.

He places two clamps on both my protruding nipples. Unlike the ones that Devlin has clipped me with before, the blunted teeth on these ones bite down on my skin so that it actually hurts.

I whimper.

"Now, now, surely you're not a soft girl. You'll be able to take a little pain."

He moves the third crocodile clamp to my pussy. He regards my terrified face as, with his huge thumb and index finger, he seizes my moist clit.

"Please, sir, no!" I cry.

The clamp snares almost the entire flesh of my sensitive hood and nips down on it firmly. Tears of pain flood my eyes. A stinging sensation of deep, intimate pain immediately flares in my clitoris.

My trapped nipples and clit are now connected to one another by the Y filigree chain.

Dean Whitehouse grabs my chin. "Do not call me 'sir'. From now on, you'll refer to me as 'teacher', understand?"

He makes me nod. "Yes, teacher."

"Good. Now I want you to stand up on the table with your legs apart."

Uncurling my knees, I attempt to straighten myself. The chains of the clamps become taut, pulling my nipples downward and lifting my clit painfully.

"Now pinch both your earlobes with your fingers. I want you to pull yourself down by the ears into a squat. Then stand up again. Do this fifty times."

The tears are running down my cheeks. Fifty times! Surely he does not mean to humiliate me thus!

I seize my earlobes and pull myself down, bending my legs at the knees.

"Count," Dean Whitehouse commands me.]]>

Kieran is everything that Tommy’s not—dark to his light, triple caramel swirl to Tommy’s vanilla. But Bea will not be tempted. Or at least, she thinks she won’t. Until she discovers Tommy and Kieran have been IMing each other for some time—and they haven’t been talking about innocent things.

They’ve been talking about her, and more importantly, they’ve been talking about what they’d like to do to her. Together. And once Tommy’s buttons have been pushed and Kieran’s been let off his leash, anything seems possible…]]>

However when you throw Kieran into the mix, he had great chemistry with Tommy and with Bea. And only when he was there with them did things heat up properly. The act of menage itself though was rather...disappointing.

An OK read. Loved the fact that the book took place in UK, and the usage of the word "arse" - somehow seems less crude than the americanized "ass".

This book took absolutely forever to take off, and it didn't get to a proper menage until the very end. Bea and Tommy were a little on the boring side, even when having nookie. And the chemistry between them wasn't the best.

<![CDATA[Chasing Fire (Colorado High Country, #7; I-Team, #9)]]> 41798378 For fans of Pamela Clare’s acclaimed I-Team and Colorado High Country series

An I-Team/Colorado High Country Crossover Novel

Fire chief Eric Hawke knows it’s only a matter of time until the next big wildfire. He’s done everything he can to prepare his crews for the inevitable. When high winds turn a small blaze into a raging crown fire that threatens Scarlet Springs, he, Brandon Silver, and the rest of Scarlet FD put their lives on the line to save the town and its citizens. But the one thing Hawke hadn’t planned for was bureaucratic red tape and waffling from higher-ups that could turn this crisis into a catastrophe. When his requests for support go unheeded, he’s faced with the prospect of watching the town he loves burn to ashes.

But sometimes help comes from unexpected places.

Marc Hunter, Julian Darcangelo, and Zach McBride are in the mountains above Scarlet Springs for an interagency training exercise when they see a single wisp of smoke to the west. What begins as a fun day of playing cops and bad guys soon becomes a battle against time, as they join forces with Hawke and members of the Rocky Mountain Search & Rescue Team to save friends trapped by the fire.

Together, they pit their strength and courage against a terrifying and unforgiving force of nature. Will it be enough? Or will the ravenous flames claim lives—and leave the people of Scarlet Springs forever scarred?

Then there’s the mashup of two series. Annoying.

I skipped the chunks of the book that did not contain any Colorado High Contry characters. And I skimmed even more parts of this book.

This book took me “only two days to read partly because of the skipping and skimming, and partly because I had to force myself to just get on with it and wrap this book up already.

Kate's Crew (Powertools, #1) 7715960 Nothing's sexier than a man, or five, with power tools.

Sultry summer heat has nothing on the five-man crew renovating the house next door. No one could blame Kate for leaning out the window for a better view of the manscape. The nasty fall that follows isn't part of her fantasy--but the man who saves her from splattering the sidewalk is definitely the star.

When Mike personally attends to her injuries, she realizes her white knight in a hard hat has a tender side, giving her no choice but to surrender to the lust that's been arcing between them since day one. In the aftermath of the best sex of her life, she whispers her most secret desire: to be ravaged by his crew.

She never expected Mike would dare her to take what she wants--or that the freedom to make her most decadent desires come true could be the foundation for something lasting...]]>

But he’s not willing to let her go without a fight.

Reece can’t let Alyssa go, not when he’s completely fallen for the sweet, sexy female. He doesn’t care about the arranged mating deal, he just wants her and has no idea why she ran. To win her back he infiltrates another alpha’s territory, knowing it could mean his death. Luckily Grant Kincaid allows him in his domain—as long as Alyssa is okay with it. The book is short, and it has an abrupt ending. The smut is well written (except the words I mentioned earlier), and best of all - it's a M/M/F story where pretty much anything goes. Yes, I prefer M/M/F to M/F/M where the M/M's never even touch each other.

Read it if you want good smut - don't read it for the plot.

A Ghost Cats story.

Eve Matthews, head veterinarian at Jameson Wildlife Rescue and Preserve, measures success by no one s rules but her own much to her rich parents distress. A life filled with animals means she s rarely alone. Still, a little human contact of the male variety would be nice.

The only one in her life right now is Midnight, a black panther she brought back from the brink of death. She doesn t think twice about bringing him home to keep an eye on him. Changing clothes in front of his golden eyes. Confessing her deepest fantasies to his alert ears. It s not as if he ll ever tell anyone her secrets.

Forced to watch her every move, listen to her every word, Viktor is in torment, trapped in panther form while he heals. He aches to fill her nights with the pleasure she craves, but to shift too soon risks death. Until the night she pleasures herself, and he can take no more.

They come together in a cataclysm too fierce to be a dream. But the shifter who left Viktor for dead is drawing near, determined to finish the job he started.

This book has been previously published.
Warning: Contains a voyeuristic cat shifter, a heroine who's an exhibitionist unaware, and explicit sex that may just give you cat scratch fever. Iced catnip tea recommended."]]>

What I liked the most about Alyssa, is that she didn't take any shit from Marco laying down. When he messed up, well she simply told him to kiss her ass and left. I loved that Marco had to work real hard to get her back.

This is my first time reading a Laura Kaye book, and I'm thoroughly impressed. I've been flirting with her books for a while, never really getting around to picking one up. And I'm kinda glad this book was my introduction to her. I fell in love with Alyssa and I fell in love with Marco. I wanted to kick his ass a few times, and I wanted to scream at her once or twice - but in the end, they redeemed themselves.

If you like soldier boys, if you like heroes who struggle to overcome inner demons, if you like strong female characters that give as good as they get, read Her Forbidden Hero.

First of all, this really is a long ass book. It takes a few days to get through if you have other things besides reading that you need to do. Even if not a whole lot happens, it's an intense book. It takes your breath away, and it makes you cry. It even pisses you off a couple times.

If you read this book, and end up not having some kind of reaction, you need to dig deeper within yourself. This book truly grabs you, and it stays with you for a very long time.

I like that there was very little smut in it. We only have one vague scene where Michael goes down on Rebecca, and the rest is faded to black. The fact that it isn't graphic makes this story that much stronger.

I think I understand the title the author chose for the book. Sure, she could have chosen it cause she likes butterflies, and added it to the book and used it as the title. But with how deep this book is, I think there's a deeper meaning behind it. I don't know all that much about the deeper meaning of the butterfly, but what little I do know, both the usage of the butterfly tattoo on Michael and using it as the title of the book, it makes sense.

So should you read this book? If you want to live with these characters long after you've finished the book - absolutely. If you're looking for smut or light reading - find something else.

Look, but don’t touch

Leyla Karimi can’t keep her eyes off the hunky guy living in the house behind her. How couldany woman resist ogling Dr. Mason Barrett, especially when he makes it so easy by parading around in his skin and skivvies?

If it was only their age difference, she would have made a move a long time ago. Except Mason is more than a neighbor. He’s her baby brother’s oldest friend. It’s not like they can have a casual fling and walk away in the morning.

Mason’s been doing a little lusting—okay a lot—for quite some time. When he catches Leyla peeking, it’s a sure sign she could finally be ready to heat up his nights with loving. One taste of her lips, though, and he doesn’t want a “little of anything. He wants it all.

Unwilling to jeopardize a lifetime of friendship for a one-night stand, Leyla is reluctant to throw caution to the wind. When he’s kissing her senseless, though, it’s hard to remember all the reasons why she should hold back

Contains a hot hero who doesn’t mind baring it all in the name of love, a heroine who doesn’t settle for less, a sweet romance, steamy sex in a car and more good lovin in bed.

Some books you can't wait to reach the ending because you just don't connect all that well with the characters, and some books you just want to last forever. Alisha Rai's books you want to never end. Her characters are always "real" and they have their issues. Sometimes you want to smack them upside their head, but at the end of it, you can't help but just fall in love with them.

The only downfall I saw in this book was the somewhat lax editing from the editor. Basic grammar mistakes and misspelled words. Easy enough to catch, but they ruin the experience somewhat when they're not caught.

Everyone who loves contemporary romance should have at least one Alisha Rai book on their shelf, be it in their living room or a virtual one.

Drive Me Crazy 13561771

Three weeks and three thousand miles later, Jaime s feet are on home ground, but her heart is pulling her in a completely unexpected direction. Toward Xavier and a new journey that will require the ultimate leap of faith.

I loved Xavier and I loved Jaime. I won't even hold it against the author that she spent so much time getting the religious aspect in there (there was a wedding).

What drew me to this book, was the promise of a road trip. Having been on a few of those, I'm a sucker for road trip books. Especially if there is a promise of a hot romance as well.

There are so many things I loved about this book, the constant banter between Xavier and Jaime, them getting hot and heavy, their bickering, them trying not to fall in love - and a billion little things.

I've already downloaded two more books by this author, and I'm excited about getting started.

I was going to bump this one down my list, but then I sat there at the airport, just having finished a BDSM book that left a lot to be desired, and decided to find something cute. I'd just downloaded this one, and it looked promising so I figured I'd give it a go for a few chapters and see where it went. It went straight through to my favorites shelf. I couldn't put the book down, so I ended up reading until 5am when I simply just passed out. :D

<![CDATA[Tempting Fate (Colorado High Country, #4)]]> 35493937 A woman with no roots

Naomi fled the cult-like nightmare of her childhood and learned to rely on one person—herself. Her resourcefulness keeps her alive during a catastrophe in the mountains, but it’s no help at all when it comes to Chaska Belcourt, the sexy EMT who saves her life. Raised to feel shame about her body and sex, she is putty in Chaska’s hands as he strips away her armor, exposing the vulnerable woman beneath, awakening desires in her that she’d been taught to ignore.

A kiss that changes everything

Chaska Belcourt grew up on the reservation, the son of a hereditary Sun Dance chief. He left all of that behind for a new life in Colorado as an engineer with an aerospace firm and a member of the elite Rocky Mountain Search & Rescue Team. He doesn’t share his sister’s belief that fate led him to find Naomi. But from the first moment their lips touch, he can’t get enough of her.

A love that transforms

As the passion between them turns into something more, Chaska is forced to admit that his sister is right. There’s no other way to explain the depth of his feelings for Naomi—or the fact that he and his people might hold the key to unraveling the mysteries of her past. But she will have to learn to trust again before the two of them can find the answers she needs—and claim this once-in-a-lifetime love.]]>

First time I read this book, I binged the whole series, taking less than a day per book. This time I've tried to drag it out and truly enjoy the stories. I've spent 2 days on this book this time instead of the few hours I spent first time. This book is even more powerful on 2nd read, slaying me even more. There just is no way to read this book without keeping a box of Kleenex very close.

Usually I'm very wary of reading books with Native Americans as leads, more often than not the authors butcher Native characters or they are completely blind to cultural differences, and they just make the read really cringeworthy. Ms Clare managed all these little hurdles like a champ. She did justice to the characters, making both Chaska and Naomi strong characters you can't help but fall in love with. And she did their culture justice.

I love Ms Clare's books. I started reading her I-Team books when everyone around me thought her books trite and boring (I've clueless friends...), and I fell in love with her writing then. The I-Team books are the sole reason why I picked up book 5 of Colorado High Country to begin with. Her writing from I-Team to Colorado High Country has just gotten better. And it makes me itch to pick up the I-Team books and re-read those I've already read, and continue reading that series now that I've shed myself of the critics of Ms Clare. Yes, I gave in to peer pressure and stopped reading the books, I didn't even review what I'd read or put them up as read. Stupid, I know. But for now, I'm going back to the book that rekindled my love for Ms Clare's books, the Christmas story of Joe and Rain. :)

These books have slayed me completely (I read book 5 first, so slightly out of order), and I've fallen completely in love with these stories. I don't even wanna finish digesting the stories. I just want to start over from book 1 again. I've more or less read all 5 books in one sitting and I've gone through a whole box of Kleenex. Yes, I have. No, I'm not even joking a little. I'll take a couple hours break, watch some TV, and start over.

Not quite what I thought it would be. All the smut happens in the form of a blog, where Eris aka Eve spells out what she wants. Literally.

When Dale agrees to Kyran’s relationship stipulation of no labels, she’s sucked into a whirlwind of lust, money, and underground boxing. The agreement to keep their lust away from the office is discarded when rules are molded to suit their ever-increasing attraction. Dale fights her growing affection, trying to hide it even when the world around them spirals out of control. All too soon she realizes she can’t hide her true feelings any longer.

Kyran begins to wonder if he’s finally met his match, and with his family falling apart before his eyes, he turns to the two things he knows will keep him boxing and Dale. Those crutches can’t last forever, and when Kyran finds it harder to function he is left with a decision he never thought he’d have to make.

Kyran is a vivid character, and the more you get to know him, the more you feel for him. You hurt when he's hurting, and you're happy when he's happy. It doesn't hurt that beneath his work suit, he has some wicked tattoos...

Ms Stacie has this knack of pulling you emotionally right into the story. More often than not I love her female characters. They tend to be strong, with a mind of their own, and not afraid to speak up when they have something to say. I did have a few "issues" with Dale Porter. I loved that she was snappy and funny, but I found her to be little too much in her own head-space, and I didn't agree with all her choices.

That being said, I loved this book. It made me laugh and it made me cry. It made me angry and it made me happy. And it was sexy to boot! In short, it was a book that was impossible to put down, and I kept wishing real life would stop getting in the way of my reading.

Me and Ms Stacie have a great relationship; she writes these amazing books and sexy heroes, and I read her books and fall in love with her heroes. And I absolutely fell in love with Kyran Reese, though I didn't always understand this need he had for getting rid of tension by doing something violent like underground boxing. I understand the head space he goes into, but I don't understand how he reaches that place by violence. And truthfully, that kind of violence scares me.

It's not a long story, but it has a little bit of everything. You get twosomes, threesomes, foursomes, MM, MMF, MF, anal, vaginal, oral - it simply doesn't stop. It's a raw and quick read, but it'll leave you panting for a partner.

There's one more book that brings two of the characters from this one, but I'm saving that one for a horny rainy day.

Other than a few semi-hot scenes, I didn't connect with the characters in any way. Granted, it's hard to form a bond with a character in a short story like this, but there wasn't even a spark. Maybe this would read differently if the story was fleshed out and we got more character backgrounds and got to see a little bit more under their skin. But as the story stands right now, it's firmly at the middle of the tree. Not in any way bad, but not great either.

I wasn't happy with the ending, too much was left open-ended. I'm left with too many questions. I know this is officially classified as Erotica, but Curio is so much more! It's one of these books that makes you think. The characters have so much depth, it's almost painful. And the more you get to know these characters, the less you're willing to let go of them. It's one of these rare books that makes me feel both happy and sad at the same time. It both broke my heart and made me smile, all within minutes of each other.

Curio firmly belongs on my Favorites shelf, and I'm sure some will wonder why an 'Erotica' book would be put there. The characters have sex, yes. But it's not overly graphic. Their trysts are beautiful instead of pornographic. Regardless of how Didier is described in the blurb, there just are so many feelings between the characters. And this book being written in first person only strengthens this book instead of taking away from it.

I know it's a tall order, but I would love to read a sequel from Didier's point of view. Not a rehash of this book, but maybe how it all goes with Didier and Caroly getting to really know each other.

If you can get past the fact that this book is sold as 'Erotica', it's one of these rare gems that deserves to be read by everyone.

Above all, Curio has ruined me for all other books. Picking up another book today, or even tomorrow, feels wrong. :D

This one is incredibly short. Shorter than a novella, more like a novelette maybe. It's also more poetic in its writing than the novels. It's incredibly beautiful and beyond sad, and it gives a slight window into the Dragon Tooth Warriors and their destiny.

He finds Kate’s convictions about magic especially frustrating because of the magnetic attraction between them. Why can’t he fall for a normal girl? But, eventually, not even Jarrod can dismiss his gift…or the mounting danger it’s causing. To save their future, Jarrod and Kate embark on an incredible journey to the past where they must foil the curse that has plagued Jarrod’s family for centuries. I've learned that when writing in 1st person, it's better to stick with one point of view. Makes for a smoother read. If the story calls for jumping back and forth between characters, write it in 3rd person to make the transitions smoother.

The plot is fun and different, the characters are like-able - and sometimes annoying, as they should be to be "real".

Other than some minor typo's and editing mistakes, and the overwhelming POV changing, the book is worth a read.]]>

I liked the plot and the characters a lot. It would have given it a solid 4/5 star review had it not been written in 1st person and had all the annoying point of view hopping. It was jumping back and forth so much between Kate and Jarrod, it made my head ache.

The characters have a lot of potential, but fall a little flat as the author didn't take time to flesh them out properly. They simply lack a lot of back story. A lot of unanswered questions about their backgrounds, or things were too easily explained away.

The plot is also a little thin, and it all happens too fast. There is no time to digest anything before the whole thing is over. But again, it has a lot of potential as the base is laid down for a killer story. I wish the author had taken the time out to deepen the characters, given them more of a background, and held back a little on the plot and drawn it out. I learned literally nothing about the bad guys, that could have been played out differently. They could have been given a much bigger role, which would have made the final battle in the story into something epic.

Merged review:

This book feels a little rushed and is too fast paced. The history of the dragon, how it came to be, how it got to where it is, is only half explained. The whole book feels a little incomplete. The heroine, Cora, is both accepting the dragons too easily, and is accepted by the dragons too easily. Especially after the age old "no girlfriends and no wives" rule in the Brotherhood. Again, it goes back to being too fast paced.

Usually I complain about too much dialogue and never being able to get under the characters skin. This time it’s too much in their heads, which takes you too deeply under their skin. It ought to have been a good thing, but the one thing that would have worked well here, is a balance of the two. That would have connected the readers to the characters on a whole different level.

The story is too one sided, making for a very dull read, and it made me want to flounce several times. But being OCD about reading, flouncing is difficult, so I ended up skimming through huge chunks of it just in order to read the whole thing.

This book is part of a series I haven’t read, and after this book, I have no interest in reading it either. I have a few other books by this author, and I’m hoping they’ll give me a different experience to this book.

Reads like an odd duck. Most of the story is in the heads of the characters, and there’s very little dialogue and interaction going on. Which means it’s impossible to connect with the characters. Incredibly tight-lipped and painfully private, Anthony Phoenix has been known to make lesser women cry. Luckily, Summer Staite is by no means a lesser woman. "What did you think?" - that one question above this box is a little intimidating. What did I think? What do I think? Well... I didn't love this book. I didn't hate it either. Kind of think it was meh. That's what I think.

Seriously though, there were too many factual wrongs with this one, it made my head hurt. I've worked in the publishing industry. Magazine publishing. And there is just no way this story is plausible. I was a music journalist, I know this world - and this story just pissed me off with its inaccuracies.

Then there's the characters. I hated her, and didn't like him. I really did want to like these characters. I did. But they were petty and stupid, and their characteristics needed some fleshing out.

The author had a good idea for a story, she just didn't execute it right. I guess there wasn't a lot of time spent doing any kind of research for this one... I've said it before, and I'll probably say it again; write what you know, and know what you write. Really hate it when authors do a half-assed job.

I totally get that roleplaying can be a huge turn-on - though I'm not sure about pretend-rape. Yes, it is erotica. Yes, the heroine 'wants' it. And yes, it's pushing my boundaries. To the point I don't actually find it sexy.

To say I'm confilcted about this one, is to put it mildly. I love Cara McKenna and her style of writing, she just has a way with words that pulls you in - seduces you. But the pretend violence, and the pretend rape is pushing it.

I love Flynn. I love that he's a man's man, and that he's a boxer. Something undeniebly sexy about that. But what rattles his cage - and Laurel's - doesn't rattle mine. In fact, it left me feeling rather cold.

There is so much violence around us in our everyday lives, adding that as a 'spice' to your sexlife seems...I don't even know how to put it. It just simply is too much.

I did love the connection between Laurel and Flynn, and I loved that they were 'real' people, all nitty and gritty. I liked them as characters, I would love to see more of them. But not the rape-fantasy. That was too much.

So with all this confusion in mind, I'm giving this three stars. The characters and story itself is too good to go any lower - but with it being erotica and that I didn't find it sexy I can't go any higher. So. A solid 3.]]>

<![CDATA[Northern Exposure (Compass Brothers #1)]]> 10339281 All roads lead home when that’s where you’ve left your heart.

Compass Brothers, Book 1

Silas Compton always had his eye on Lucy, the veterinarian’s daughter. He was even content to wait for the girl of his dreams to grow up before getting anywhere near her with his family’s double-edged legacy.

Waiting around led to fooling around with his best friend—and an impulsive eruption of desire that Lucy’s innocent eyes weren’t meant to see. Figuring Compton Pass wasn’t big enough for either the three of them or the pain he’d caused, Silas let loose his tightly reined wanderlust and headed for Alaska.

Ten years later, when an oil rig accident sends him home, he braces himself for the reopening of old wounds. Instead he finds himself in the care—and welcoming arms—of Lucy and Colby, whose marriage has plenty of room for the man they both still love. And forgive with all their hearts.

As things start to unravel at Compass Ranch, Silas must dig deep for the strength to assume his rightful place in the Compton family…and lay the foundation for a future with his lovers. If he can forgive himself.

This book is overflowing with sexy cowboys who like to saddle up and ride each other as well as the woman of their dreams. The likelihood of becoming addicted to their ranch family is high. With three more stories yet to come, beware. You won’t be able to read just one!

I loved this book. It was hard to put down. All the sugary ILY's and vows to stay together forever made my teeth ache from the sweetness. Yes, it got to be too much.

I liked the characters just fine, though I wanted to knock them over their heads a few times.

Other than this book a little too Hollywood sugary sweet in the lovey dovey parts, it was well written. In true menage style, we had M/F, M/M, M/M/F and M/F/M and probably variations I've forgotten now. A lot of unanswered questions at the end, that tie in with the next book in the series.

When they unexpectedly meet again, the pull between them is stronger than ever, tempting Lia to stop sacrificing her own happiness for the family dynasty.

This book has been previously published and has been revised and expanded from its original release.

Warning: Contains incredible one-night-stand sex hot enough to withstand time, distance, and some really nasty terrorist torture.

I loved Jimmy's Southern charm, though I have to be honest and say that I did like his brother, Jack, a bit more... :D

At the rate I'm going with these books, I'm jumping off right here. I don't want to be done with the books by Sunday. So I'm throwing in a book from a different author and see where that takes me. I do love this series, and I don't want it to end this soon. I have to try to stretch these out.

Merged review:

Jimmy and Lia's story is much more heartbreaking than any of the others' so far. [spoilers removed]

Um...well...yeah. Very, very hot. Scorching. This is a tatted up and pierced sex romp of a book. Nothing more and nothing less. A little lacking on the plot side of things, but I kinda doubt this book was written for the plot. There's two more books in this series.

A quick and easy read, having a man handy when done reading is a plus.
