After finishing this, I feel like I prefer The Anthropocene Reviewed in Its original podcast format, as John's narration seems to really add to the experience for me. That aside, my only real complaint about the book is that if you ARE a fan of the podcast already, you're not really going to find much that's new here. The stuff that is new is mostly additions to previous essays to relate them to the current Covid pandemic and for me personally, I don't really care to reflect on that all too much right now.

That being said, there is still a LOT to love here as obviously, John is a great writer who really has a way of telling meandering, seemingly unrelated stories that end up making you feel good about being a human in the world despite all the bad stuff. If this book sounds at all interesting to you I would recommend picking it up. Personal essays are way outside my usual reading tendencies, but I found something to love or think about in almost every one. I give The Anthropocene Reviewed 4 stars.

This was really really cute. I only have two minor complaints. One is the male narrator on the audiobook just did not do it for me and two that this is a closed door book lol.

Even by the end of this book I still did not like Nesta. There’s really no explanation for why she’s such a blazing asshole the entire series. We’re just supposed to forgive her because she does a couple good things at the end.
