<![CDATA[Borderline Personality Disorder Survival Guide for You and Your Relationship: Manage, Treat and Recover BPD Through the Power of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy]]> 50781091 More than 4 million people suffer from Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) in the US. It’s a serious issue that can significantly impact the quality of life both for those suffering from it and their loved ones.

BPD negatively impacts daily functioning, relationships, and self-image and can lead to destructive behavior.

Primarily caused by trauma in childhood, symptoms of Borderline Personality Disorder most frequently show up in teenage years and early adulthood.

Do you recognize problems such as:

fear of abandonment? erratic behavior? poor self-image? disproportionate emotional response? self-harm?

For example, your partner might tell you about something they’re not happy about, and in your mind, this is just the prelude to them leaving you.

Your natural response to every scenario in life is an extremely self-sabotaging behavior that doesn´t allow you to maintain healthy relationships.

If you or a loved one is suffering from BPD, there’s no need to explain how serious or difficult your life is right now. Fortunately, there is one highly effective treatment option that has been scientifically proven to work.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) has a 77% success rate in the first year, eliminating the behaviors that classify Borderline Personality Disorder.

Borderline Personality Disorder Survival Guide for You and Your Relationship educates you on the causes and conditions of BPD while providing a variety of powerful strategies and new techniques you or your loved one can put to use to start feeling better immediately.

Here is just a small fraction of what you will discover in Borderline Personality Disorder Survival Guide for You and Your Relationship:

How to support someone suffering from BPD while also maintaining healthy boundaries of acceptable behavior Which BPD symptoms require immediate attention and how to recognize them The long-term fix to stop the overwhelming-ness of intensive feeling and your most challenging triggers How to avoid the common pitfall of jumping to conclusions and never think “How did this happen? again How the that Selena Gomez says “completely changed my life works The most essential techniques to live a healthy romantic relationship Practical DBT strategies and techniques for quick relief in less than 60 minutes Alternative treatment modalities for BPD you haven´t heard of How to customize your treatment method based on your dominant symptoms and personality

And much more.

Many people suffering from BPD hesitate to try available treatments because the problem can be painful to face. They may also resist because they tried treatment unsuccessfully in the past.

The good news about treatment options for BPD is that they are solution-oriented. You can quickly determine if one works or not and do it without having to dredge up a lot of past details.

If you want immediate relief from your BPD symptoms, scroll up and click the “Add to Cart button.

Huda:
Regarding the story, I admire the way in which the priest treated the man, Valjean. I was amazed by addressing the good part in him, when he reminded him of a promise that he did made about using his many in a good way! He was talking to him as a good man neglecting his bad reputation and his burglary. He did not introduce him to the police as a thief.

He expressed that by saying I bought you from devil and gave you to God, to remind him that this is your chance to change.

The priest's words did not affect Valjean immediately.. He kept stealing as he stole money from the little boy, but later the charm of these words started working. The man felt a deep grief.

This makes me rethink of the way dealing with people when they make mistakes. Usually I don't like people who lie, steal or deceive others, and I think they deserve punishment to prevent them from doing it again. But I don't know if the priest's way can work in real life. Is it realistic to do this with criminals? Or it is just a way that can be used with kids to give them a chance of change.

I also like the priest's way of thinking when he knew about the stealing of the silver pieces. He blamed himself for not giving the silver to the poor long time ago. ]]>

Regarding the story, I admire the way in which the priest treated the man, Valjean.

13404817 Brave New World is a searching vision of an unequal, technologically-advanced future where humans are genetically bred, socially indoctrinated, and pharmaceutically anesthetized to passively uphold an authoritarian ruling order–all at the cost of our freedom, full humanity, and perhaps also our souls. “A genius [who] who spent his life decrying the onward march of the Machine (The New Yorker), Huxley was a man of incomparable talents: equally an artist, a spiritual seeker, and one of history’s keenest observers of human nature and civilization. Brave New World, his masterpiece, has enthralled and terrified millions of readers, and retains its urgent relevance to this day as both a warning to be heeded as we head into tomorrow and as thought-provoking, satisfying work of literature. Written in the shadow of the rise of fascism during the 1930s, Brave New Worldd likewise speaks to a 21st-century world dominated by mass-entertainment, technology, medicine and pharmaceuticals, the arts of persuasion, and the hidden influence of elites.

The uneasy balance between these worlds is shattered when Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer. Khalil was unarmed.

Soon afterward, his death is a national headline. Some are calling him a thug, maybe even a drug dealer and a gangbanger. Protesters are taking to the streets in Khalil’s name. Some cops and the local drug lord try to intimidate Starr and her family. What everyone wants to know is: what really went down that night? And the only person alive who can answer that is Starr.

But what Starr does—or does not—say could upend her community. It could also endanger her life.

Inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement, this is a powerful and gripping YA novel about one girl's struggle for justice.]]>

<![CDATA[The Necklace and Other Short Stories]]> 77995
The nine stories in this collection provide a vivid portrait gallery of his typical subjects from simple peasants and prostitutes to soldiers, government clerks, and provincial bourgeois. Brilliantly naturalistic, these short works also reveal Maupassant's ability to observe the innumerable details of everyday life and reproduce them artfully and accurately, often with a caustic sense of humor.

His literary talents are amply displayed in this volume, which includes the memorable tale "Ball-of-Fat," regarded by many as technically one of the finest short stories ever written.

<![CDATA[Teaching Young Language Learners (Oxford Handbooks for Language Teachers Series)]]> 994211
This book is not a theoretical analysis of teaching language to young learners, nor is it a resource manual with a list of ready ideas and 'tips' for classroom use. Instead, it aims to discuss and bring together research relevant to children and language learning and principles in classroom practice.

The book is organized into eleven chapters:

1. Learning and development
2. Learning the first language at home and at school
3. Learning a second/third language at home and at school
4. Policy: primary ELT programmes
5. Teaching listening and speaking
6. Teaching reading and writing
7. Teaching vocabulary and grammar
8. Learning to learn (helping children develop learning strategies)
9. Materials evaluation and materials design
10. Assessment
11. Research in the primary English classroom

Each chapter ends with a list of recommended reading, a survey of background theory, references to various practical teacher resources, and a set of follow-up tasks suitable both for trainee teachers and practising teachers using the book independently.]]>

<![CDATA[Teaching English as an International Language]]> 2957716
This book shows how the current spread of English as a means of communication throughout the world gives rise to many questions that challenge the way we currently teach. Among the questions it addresses are:

- Because of its role as an international language, should learning English be considered and treated differently from learning other second languages?

- How are changes in English (in grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation) affected by its role as an international language? How will these changes impact on how well people can understand each other when they use it?

- Should speakers of English as an international language aim to imitate native speakers or are there other ways of defining appropriate use?

- Should ELT materials still use topics related to native English-speaking cultures? Should the methodology they follow reflect the culture of learning of western countries? If not, what alternative topics and models can be used?

The book is organized into five chapters.

Chapter 1: 'English as in international language' contains definitions and descriptions of the spread of English as in international language.

Chapter 2: 'Bilingual users of English' questions the validity of the term 'native speaker' and the usefulness of 'native-speaker models' in the light of the growth in the number of bilingual speakers of English worldwide. It ends with a discussion of the changing role of bilingual teachers of English.

Chapter 3: 'Standards for English as in international language' looks at how we can define standards when the native speaker model is no longer the sole reference point. It includes examples of distinctive features of different varieties of English which have become more generally accepted.

Chapter 4: 'Culture and English as in international language' looks at the role of culture in teaching, and especially at its implications for the content of teaching materials.

Chapter 5: 'Teaching methods and English as an international language' discusses the challenges that English as an international language poses for the communicative language teaching model that currently predominates in many teaching situations.

Each chapter ends with a further reading list, and there are also a glossary and full bibliography at the end of the book.]]>

<![CDATA[Teaching Business English (Oxford Handbooks for Language Teachers Series)]]> 4942441
The authors of Teaching Business English believe that teachers need to follow a practical approach, and that learners need to be placed at the heart of the teaching process. In the case of job-experienced learners (from companies or other organizations), this means using their personal experience both as a source of meaningful content and as a way of motivating them to learn. For pre-experience learners who don't yet have this hands-on experience, the teacher needs to draw on their interest in, and general knowledge of, the world of work.

The book is divided into three parts. Part One is especially useful if you are new to Business English teaching or are thinking of moving into it. Parts Two and Three will provide ideas for practising and experienced teachers, as well as newcomers.

- Part One gives a general background to the subject. It includes definitions of Business English, descriptions of different categories of learner, and of the types of institution where Business English is taught. It also looks at the various resources you will need to use as a Business English trainer, and at ways of setting performance objectives.

- Part Two focuses on the needs of the learners and shows you how you can analyse those needs in order to decide on the structure and content of a course. It covers ways of describing levels of performance and of analysing learners' jobs. It also explains what you need to know about your learners and how to set about getting the information you need. Finally there is an explanation of course design and how to decide on what to teach, based on what you have found out about learners' work and language needs.

- Part Three looks at materials and activities. It explains how to choose published materials and develop materials and activities of your own. It also gives suggestions about classroom management and strategies for dealing with different kinds of learners.]]>

<![CDATA[Teaching and Learning in the Language Classroom (Oxford Handbooks for Language Teachers Series)]]> 902899
Tricia Hedge believes that although there are huge differences in the way that English is taught around the world, teachers typically find themselves having to face similar issues. What do I set up as aims for my next lesson with this class and what kind of activities will help to achieve those aims? How do I deal with this reading text in class? What amount of out-of-class work can I reasonably expect my learners to do? How do I make best use of a textbook I am not entirely happy with? These are just a few examples of the many questions typically asked by teachers which she addresses in this book.

Although insights from research can help, there are no 'right answers' provided. Instead, the aim is to give you a solid foundation of knowledge which you can use to evaluate and apply your own ideas about teaching and learning.

The book is organized into four parts.

- Part One ('A framework for teaching and learning') looks at insights from research into learners, learning, and language in use and discusses how these have influenced methodology and materials in ELT. Specific topics covered include: the use of communicative tasks in the classroom, the concept of learner strategies and how you can train your students to develop them, the growth of interactive methodology and its consequences in changing the roles of teacher and learner.

- Part Two ('Teaching the language system') focuses on vocabulary and grammar, and Part Three ('Developing the language skills') on the traditional four language skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. There is also discussion of how these different areas fit together.

- Part Four ('Planning and assessing learning') moves on to wider issues. Chapter 10 on course design refers back to topics covered earlier in the book. Chapter 11 deals with the relationship between teaching and different forms of assessment.

There is an Introductory task at the start of each chapter (with supporting guidance notes), as well as a Discussion topics and projects section - which can be used for group discussion - at the end.

The book also has a complete glossary, further reading suggestions at the end of each chapter, a bibliography, and a full index.]]>

<![CDATA[Teaching American English Pronunciation (Oxford Handbooks for Language Teachers Series)]]> 1389441
Unlike books aimed at linguistics students or individual learners of English, Teaching American English Pronunciation specifically addresses the needs of ESL teachers. It provides the descriptive knowledge needed to teach pronunciation effectively. But it is also full of practical teaching ideas.

The book is divided into three main parts:

- Part One is an introduction to the English sound system. It covers spelling and pronunciation, the individual sounds of English, English sounds in context, the shape of English words, word stress and vowel reduction, and connected speech. Throughout this part of the book, the authors use examples of typical errors made by ESL students to illustrate the descriptions and concepts they describe.

- Part Two describes the pronunciation problems that most ESL students have with English vowels, consonants, stress, rhythm, and intonation. It then goes on to look at the specific pronunciation problems of speakers of fifteen different languages: Arabic, Chinese, Farsi, French, German, Greek, Hindi and Punjabi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish, and Vietnamese.

- Part Three consists of a set of articles about practical issues in pronunciation teaching. These are written by ten North American teachers and language researchers with a wide range of experience of teaching in many different contexts. The topics covered include: pronunciation syllabus design, pronunciation-based listening activities, developing self-correcting and self-monitoring strategies, and drama techniques in the pronunciation class.]]>

<![CDATA[Success in English Teaching (Oxford Handbooks for Language Teachers Series)]]> 1362337
Success in English Teaching contains ideas and teaching techniques and suggestions that are of interest to all teachers of English as a foreign language throughout the world.

It is especially suitable for teachers who haven't yet had any formal training, or who did their training some time ago. If you don't yet have much - or any - experience as a teacher, the book encourages you to draw on your personal experience as a language learner to help you to decide what techniques and approaches will and won't work in different situations.

The book is organized into twelve chapters.

Chapters 1 to 7 focus on actual classroom teaching. They set out theoretical principles and tie them in with practical teaching ideas. The specific topics covered in these chapters are:

- Presenting new language items - including through writing;
- Organizing language practice - including discussion of accuracy, fluency, and feedback and correction;
- Handling vocabulary - including related work on grammar, punctuation, and spelling;
- Developing spoken communications skills, both inside and outside the classroom;
- Developing written communication skills;
- Review and remedial work - including descriptions of the language learning process.

Chapters 8 to 12 consider other aspects of teaching English. Topics covered are:

- Planning and managing classes - including syllabus design and classroom management (getting attention and participation, and discipline issues)
- Working with a coursebook - what they can offer, how to use them, and when and why to supplement them;
- Teaching aids and materials - including boardwork, use of real and imaginary objects, recorded material and video clips;
- Testing and evaluation - including using different kinds of test and writing your own
- Development in teaching English - different methods of and approaches to teaching; how to develop as a teacher.

There are tasks and discussion questions throughout the book and each chapters ends with a summary and project work. The book also contains a glossary, a list of sources and suggestions for further reading, and an index.]]>

<![CDATA[Intercultural Business Communication (Oxford Handbooks for Language Teachers Series)]]> 6277079
Intercultural communication has become a 'hot topic' in the training of business people (both language-focused and general). Robert Gibson draws on his own experience as a training manager in a multinational company to provide an introduction to this diverse and fascinating subject.

The book is organized into five chapters:

Chapter 1: ('The intercultural challenge') looks at the 'why, what, and how' of Intercultural Communication. It provides definitions of intercultural communication, explains why it is important, discusses some of the barriers to intercultural communication, and explores some successful strategies for dealing with difference.

Chapter 2: ('Cultural dimensions') presents the work of some of the leading figures in the field, and then goes on to discuss specific areas of interest, including: non-verbal communication, power relations, communication between individuals and groups, dealing with uncertainty, and communication between men and women.

Chapter 3: ('Business communication') looks at the skills that business people need to function effectively at work and how these are affected by intercultural factors. These skills include: managing people, negotiating, socializing, giving presentations, advertising, and applying for a job.

Chapter 4: ('Cultures') includes examples from a selection of cultures that are of special interest to business people, and discusses the attitudes in different cultures towards areas such as team work, motivation, communication style, and problem solving.

Chapter 5: ('Going further') suggests ways of training people to develop intercultural skills.

There is a recommended reading section at the end of the book as well as a full bibliography and a glossary of the key terms used in the field.]]>

How Languages are Learned 638643
Unlike many introductions to the field of language acquisition research, How Languages are Learned does not assume that you are already familiar with research methods or theories. This makes it especially suitable if you are a trainee teacher or a practising teacher working independently to develop your professional knowledge. It is written in a clear, readable style without unnecessary technical jargon - this has helped to make it a standard text for trainee teachers throughout the world.

There are evaluations and case studies throughout the book so that you can see a practical context for the research ideas you are reading about. Many of these examples are taken directly from real first and second language classrooms. There are also a number of opportunities for you to practise some of the observation and analysis techniques which are used in the research described in the book.

The book is organized into seven chapters:

Chapter 1: 'Language Learning in early childhood' (Includes a new section on childhood bilingualism.)

Chapter 2: 'Explaining second language learning' (Includes new material for the 3rd edition on skill learning, connectionism, and the 'noticing hypothesis'.)

Chapter 3: 'Individual differences in second language learning' (Topics covered include: intelligence, aptitude, learning styles, personality, motivation and attitudes, identity and ethic group affiliation, and learner beliefs.)

Chapter 4: 'Learner language' (Describes the features and sequence of language development and includes discussion of how second language learning is affected by the student's first language)

Chapter 5: 'Observing learning and teaching in the second language' (Looks at different learning environments and then discusses ways of observing and reporting on them.)

Chapter 6: 'Second language learning in the classroom' (Contains six practical proposals for classroom teaching based on research findings and insights.)

Chapter 7: 'Popular ideas about language learning revisited' (The authors list and give their personal perspective on some commonly held beliefs about language learning.)

There is a Glossary to explain new and technical terms used in the book. There is also a list of suggestions for further reading at the end of each chapter, as well as a full bibliography at the end of the book.]]>

<![CDATA[Explaining English Grammar (Oxford Handbooks for Language Teachers Series)]]> 147522
Having to explain a grammar point can be daunting for teachers. The kinds of explanations that will help language students aren't always the ones you will find in a traditional, 'academic' grammar book or guide. Instead, Explaining English Grammar is a pedagogical guide, designed to help explain the 'whys' as well as the 'hows' of English grammar.

The book is organized into ten chapters. Each chapter covers a specific grammar topic. After an introductory chapter, the topics covered are:
- Articles
- Tense and aspect
- Modals
- Conditionals
- Prepositions and particles
- Indirect objects
- Infinitives and gerunds
- Relative clauses
- Direct and indirect speech

This sequence is designed to cover the more basic topics first, and then to go into more complex areas. However, the chapters are also free-standing, so you can read them in any order - or leave some out - if you prefer.

Each chapter has a similar structure.

- First there is a section that describes and gives examples of basic forms and structures. These descriptions and examples are based on Corpus research, which makes it possible to say that one form is typically used more often than another in real texts.

- The next section moves on to look at how we use different structures to convey different basic meanings. These descriptions draw on research in semantics.

- Finally, there is a section on 'meaning in context' - in other words, the ways in which these meanings are affected by the context in which they are used, and how they are used to convey information. Again, this section is informed by research in both pragmatics and discourse analysis.

You can find additional information - and references to the research studies referred to - in 'Further reading' sections at the end of each chapter.

Also, after each section, there are summary boxes of the main points, followed by exercises that you can do on your own and/ or discuss with fellow trainees. (There are answers to these questions in an Appendix.) At the end of each chapter, there is a section containing discussion topics and projects for further investigation, and another section with ideas for classroom exercises, activities, and tasks.]]>

<![CDATA[Doing Second Language Research (Oxford Handbooks for Language Teachers Series)]]> 1369578
There are now many introductions to language research available. What makes Doing Second Language Research different and special is that it puts you inside the research process.

It does this by giving you different roles within a variety of mini-studies. This means you can get a feel for what it's like to be a research subject, research organizer, research data collector, research data analyst, and research reporter. All of this is meant to help you prepare for the final goal of designing your own research.

The book is organized into four parts:

- Part One is a general introduction to the nature of research.

- Part Two covers qualitative research and contains chapters on case study research, introspection research (use of verbal protocols), and classroom research (interaction analysis).

- Part Three covers quantitative research and contains chapters on descriptive statistics research (survey analysis), correlational research (into language learning and teaching attitudes), and quasi-experimental research (into vocabulary learning techniques).

- Part Four consists of a concluding chapter on course evaluation and combining research types.

Like other books in this series, Doing Second Language Research is designed to bridge the gap between theory and practice. To help achieve this balance, each chapter is organized into the following sections:

1. Introducing the research type
2. Experiencing the research type
3. Compiling the data generated by the research type
4. Analysing the data generated by the research type
5. Designing the research type
6. Interpreting the research type
7. Significance of the research type
8. Reflecting on the research experience

Two of the chapters (2 and 8) also have sections on reporting research results.

There is a content summary at the end of each chapter, numerous exercises with an accompanying answer key, and a glossary of key terms.]]>

<![CDATA[Communication in the Language Classroom (Oxford Handbooks for Language Teachers Series)]]> 2300451
In this book, Tony Lynch sets out to explain how classroom communication works. He explains ways of understanding why people succeed or fail in getting their meaning across. He then shows how you can use this knowledge to make students better at communicating in a new language.

The book is divided into two parts:

Part One looks at the features and characteristics of natural communication that we need to be aware of as language teachers. It contains chapters on:
- Communicating inside and outside the classroom
- Simplicity and accessibility
- Teacher Talk
- Modification research (research into what happens when teachers try to change the way they speak when talking to learners, and whether this actually aids comprehension)

Each of these more theoretical chapters includes a concluding section on 'Implications for classroom practice': these sections tie in the research presented in the chapter with practical ideas that can be applied to the classroom.

Part Two sets out a variety of ways of encouraging communication through language tasks. There is a chapter on each of the four traditional language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

Each chapter ends with a summary and suggestions for further reading, and there is a glossary and full bibliography at the end of the book.]]>

<![CDATA[Introvert Power: Why Your Inner Life Is Your Hidden Strength]]> 3260326 EMBRACE THE POWER INSIDE YOU
Are you an introvert? Psychologist and introvert Laurie Helgoe reveals that more than half of all Americans are. Introverts gain energy and power through reflection and solitude. Our culture, however, is geared toward the extrovert. The pressure to enjoy parties, chatter, and interactions can lead people to think that an inward orientation is a problem instead of an opportunity.

Helgoe shows that the exact opposite is true: Introverts can capitalize on this inner source of power. INTROVERT POWER is a groundbreaking call for an introvert renaissance, a blueprint for how introverts can take full advantage of this hidden strength in daily life. Supplemented by the voices of several introverts, Helgoe presents a startling look at introvert numbers, influence, and economic might.

Revolutionary and invaluable, INTROVERT POWER includes ideas for how introverts can learn to:

Claim private space
Carve out time to think
Bring a slower tempo into daily life
Create breaks in conversation and relationships
Deal effectively with parties, interruptions, and crowds

QUIET IS MIGHT. SOLITUDE IS STRENGTH. INTROVERSION IS POWER.
