The book is intriguing because of its ideas regarding intelligence and consciousness but unfortunately it is hampered by muddled writing and unsympathetic characters. As a lover of the genre, I was intrigued enough to read the book to completion and I think the book will stay with me. But I don't think I will read the sequel or another book by the author.
