Hearing Hugh Fraser read passages about how much Poirot misses Hastings cracked me up. As always, Hugh is the perfect narrator for a Poirot mystery and this collection of short stories did not disappoint. I'm normally so terrible at solving the mysteries myself, but a couple of these I wasn't far off the mark.

Having grown up listening to the cassette tapes of Martin Jarvis reading the Just William stories I always find it remarkable when I stumble upon one I have never heard before, and this collection of stories, all set around the festive period, were all new to me and most enjoyable. Martin Jarvis infuses the stories with his usual level of enthusiasm and characterisation. He is and will always be the perfect William.

Overall I enjoyed this series. It's not one I grew up with, but many of my friends did. I found some of the books a bit hit and miss, especially when it came to the timey-wimey aspects. Ralph Lister was a good narrator and brought the story and characters to life, Harkat being my favourite. This book provided a good conclusion to the series.

<![CDATA[The Fellowship of the Ring (The Lord of the Rings, #1)]]> 58966668 Listening time: 22 hours and 38 minutes.

This brand-new unabridged audiobook of The Fellowship of the Ring, the first part of J. R. R. Tolkien’s epic adventure, The Lord of the Rings, is read by the BAFTA award-winning actor, director and author Andy Serkis.

One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them.

In ancient times, the Rings of Power were crafted by the Elven-smiths, and Sauron, The Dark Lord, forged the One Ring, filling it with his own power so that he could rule all others. But the One Ring was taken from him, and though he sought it throughout Middle-earth, it remained lost to him. After many ages, it fell into the hands of Bilbo Baggins, as told in The Hobbit.

In a sleepy village in the Shire, young Frodo Baggins finds himself faced with an immense task, as his elderly cousin Bilbo entrusts the Ring to his care. Frodo must leave his home and make a perilous journey across Middle-earth to the Cracks of Doom, there to destroy the Ring and foil the Dark Lord in his evil purpose...]]>

Lord of the Rings is always one of my favourite books and I enjoy experiencing it in different forms. Andy Serkis as narrator presents the book with a Tolkienesque, but refreshing quality.
