<![CDATA[First Frost (Waverley Family, #2)]]> 22665598 From the New York Times bestselling author of Garden Spells comes a story of the Waverley family, in a novel as sparkling as the first dusting of frost on new-fallen leaves...

It's October in Bascom, North Carolina, and autumn will not go quietly. As temperatures drop and leaves begin to turn, the Waverley women are made restless by the whims of their mischievous apple tree... and all the magic that swirls around it. But this year, first frost has much more in store.

Claire Waverley has started a successful new venture, Waverley's Candies. Though her handcrafted confections-rose to recall lost love, lavender to promote happiness and lemon verbena to soothe throats and minds-are singularly effective, the business of selling them is costing her the everyday joys of her family, and her belief in her own precious gifts.

Sydney Waverley, too, is losing her balance. With each passing day she longs more for a baby- a namesake for her wonderful Henry. Yet the longer she tries, the more her desire becomes an unquenchable thirst, stealing the pleasure out of the life she already has.

Sydney's daughter, Bay, has lost her heart to the boy she knows it belongs to...if only he could see it, too. But how can he, when he is so far outside her grasp that he appears to her as little more than a puff of smoke?

When a mysterious stranger shows up and challenges the very heart of their family, each of them must make choices they have never confronted before. And through it all, the Waverley sisters must search for a way to hold their family together through their troublesome season of change, waiting for that extraordinary event that is First Frost.

Lose yourself in Sarah Addison Allen's enchanting world and fall for her charmed characters in this captivating story that proves that a happily-ever-after is never the real ending to a story. It's where the real story begins.]]>

<![CDATA[The Perfect Hope (Inn Boonsboro Trilogy, #3)]]> 15737052 #1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts introduces you to the Montgomery brothers - Beckett, Ryder, and Owen - as they bring an intimate bed-and-breakfast to life in their hometown.

Ryder is the hardest Montgomery brother to figure out - with a tough-as-nails outside and possibly nothing too soft underneath. He's surly and unsociable, but when he straps on a toolbelt, no woman can resist his sexy swagger. Except, apparently, Hope Beaumont, the innkeeper of his own Inn BoonsBoro...

As the former manager of a D.C. hotel, Hope is used to excitement and glamour, but that doesn't mean she can't appreciate the joys of small-town living. She's where she wants to be - except for in her love life. Her only interaction with the opposite sex has been sparring with the infuriating Ryder, who always seems to get under her skin. Still, no one can deny the electricity that crackles between them...a spark that ignited with a New Year's Eve kiss.

While the inn is running smoothly, thanks to Hope's experience and unerring instincts, her big-city past is about to make an unwelcome - and embarrassing - appearance. Seeing Hope vulnerable stirs up Ryder's emotions and makes him realize that while Hope may not be perfect, she just might be perfect for him...

The Mistletoe Inn 25359328 New York Times bestselling author Richard Paul Evans’s Mistletoe Collection.

At thirty-two Kimberly Rossetti, a finance officer at a Lexus car dealership, has had her heart broken more times than she wants to remember. With two failed engagements, a divorce and again alone with no prospects, she hardly seems the type to dream of being a published romance author. Dreading another holiday alone, she signs up for The Mistletoe Retreat, a nine-day writing retreat in Burlington, VT. Deep inside Kimberly knows she’s at a junction in her life and it’s time to either fulfill her dream or let it go. The other reason she decides to attend the conference is because famed romance writer, H.T. Cowell, once the best selling romance writer in America, and the author whose books instilled in her the desire to be a writer, will be speaking in public for the first time in more than a decade.

In one of her breakout sessions Kimberly meets another aspiring writer, and one of the few men at the conference, Zeke, an intelligent man with a wry wit who seems as interested in Kimberly as he is in the retreat. As Kimberly begins to open up to him about her stories and dreams, she inadvertently reveals her own troubled past. As Zeke helps her to discover why her books fail to live up to their potential she begins to wonder if he’s really talking more about her life than her literature. But as she grows closer to him, she realizes that Zeke has his own darkness, a past he’s unwilling to talk about.

The theme of The Mistletoe Inn is that like literature, relationships must be lived with passion and vulnerability to succeed.]]>

<![CDATA[Naughty Boss (Steamy Coffee Collection, #1)]]> 33140405 He definitely wasn't supposed to get that email...

Subject: My Boss.

Have I already told you that I hate my boss today?

Sexy as hell or not, this pompous, arrogant, ASSHOLE asked me to pick up his dry cleaning the second I walked through the door. Then he told me that I needed to take his Jaguar to a car wash that was ten miles outside of the city, but only after I needed to stand in a never-ending line to buy some type of limited, hundred-dollar watch.

I honestly can't wait to see the look on his face two months from now when I tell him that I'm quitting his company and that he can kiss my ass. KISS. MY. ASS.

All those former fantasies about him kissing me with his "mouth of perfection" or bending me over my desk and filling me with his cock are long over. OVER.

Your bestie,
Mya

PS--Please tell me your day is going better than mine...

Subject: Re: My Boss.

No, you haven't already told me that you hate your boss today, but seeing as though you've sent me this email directly, I know now...

Yes, I did ask you to pick up my dry cleaning the second you arrived to work to day. (Where is it?) And I did tell you to take my Jaguar to the car wash and pick up my thousand-dollar watch. (Thank you for taking five hours to do something that could be accomplished in two.)

You don't have to wait two months from now to see the look on my face when you tell me you're quitting. I'm standing outside your office at this very moment. ( Open the door. )

No comment on your "fantasies," although I highly doubt they're "long over."

<![CDATA[The Magical Language of Others]]> 48744141 The Magical Language of Others is a powerful and aching love story in letters, from mother to daughter. After living in America for over a decade, Eun Ji Koh’s parents return to South Korea for work, leaving fifteen-year-old Eun Ji and her brother behind in California. Overnight, Eun Ji finds herself abandoned and adrift in a world made strange by her mother’s absence. Her mother writes letters, in Korean, over the years seeking forgiveness and love—letters Eun Ji cannot fully understand until she finds them years later hidden in a box.

As Eun Ji translates the letters, she looks to history—her grandmother Jun’s years as a lovesick wife in Daejeon, the horrors her grandmother Kumiko witnessed during the Jeju Island Massacre—and to poetry, as well as her own lived experience to answer questions inside all of us. Where do the stories of our mothers and grandmothers end and ours begin? How do we find words—in Korean, Japanese, English, or any language—to articulate the profound ways that distance can shape love? Eun Ji Koh fearlessly grapples with forgiveness, reconciliation, legacy, and intergenerational trauma, arriving at insights that are essential reading for anyone who has ever had to balance love, longing, heartbreak, and joy.

The Magical Language of Others weaves a profound tale of hard-won selfhood and our deep bonds to family, place, and language, introducing—in Eun Ji Koh—a singular, incandescent voice.]]>

There are countless challenges and too many people who want to stop the sisters from succeeding. Among them are Peyton’s contentious cousins, who are outraged that they didn’t inherit the resort, as well as a powerful group of land developers who have been eyeing the coveted beachfront property.

It’s soon apparent to Peyton that their efforts are being sabotaged, but she refuses to let the threats scare her—until she’s nearly killed. She calls on her childhood friend and protector, Finn MacBain, now with the FBI, and asks for his help. He saved her life once; he can do it again.]]>

Readers from all walks of life have fallen for the voice of Esperanza Cordero, growing up in Chicago and inventing for herself who and what she will become. “In English my name means hope, she says. “In Spanish it means too many letters. It means sadness, it means waiting."Told in a series of vignettes—sometimes heartbreaking, sometimes joyous—Cisneros’s masterpiece is a classic story of childhood and self-discovery and one of the greatest neighborhood novels of all time. Like Sinclair Lewis’s Main Street or Toni Morrison’s Sula, it makes a world through people and their voices, and it does so in language that is poetic and direct. Its funny, sweet, romantic and so sexy! This story really reminds me to one of my all time favorite movies, and that is 27 DRESSES! The whole thing of falling for your sister's boyfriend, but eventually falls for the Journalist Friend is really kinda cute! Well unlike in the movie, the girl sister portrayed in the novel is really a b*tch!

Also being a first time reader of M.K. Schiller's novel, I' am definitely looking forward into reading some of her other works.

A summer in Italy turns into a road trip across Tuscany in this sweeping New York Times bestseller filled with romance, mystery, and adventure.

Lina is spending the summer in Tuscany, but she isn’t in the mood for Italy’s famous sunshine and fairy-tale landscape. She’s only there because it was her mother’s dying wish that she get to know her father. But what kind of father isn’t around for sixteen years? All Lina wants to do is get back home.

But then Lina is given a journal that her mom had kept when she lived in Italy. Suddenly Lina’s uncovering a magical world of secret romances, art, and hidden bakeries. A world that inspires Lina, along with the ever-so-charming Ren, to follow in her mother’s footsteps and unearth a secret that has been kept for far too long. It’s a secret that will change everything Lina knew about her mother, her father—and even herself.

People come to Italy for love and gelato, someone tells her, but sometimes they discover much more.

Kirkus Reviews called Love & Gelato “a sure bet for fans of romance fiction, while VOYA said readers “will find it difficult to put this book down. Readers are about to discover a new place, a new romance, and a new talent.]]>

Plus, I was officially hooked, and after reading it, I knew that there was just something fishy and mysterious about Lina's identity especially about her parents.

Anyway, as a reader of the story, you could totally feel like you were actually there in Florence, Italy. Taking it all in the beauty of the place, imagining yourself walking along the Piazza Signoria while eating your gelato.

Then another thing is that it is such a surprise to know that only a few weeks ago, I've just finished reading a book written by Richard Paul Evans. Who is actually the father of Jenna Evans Welch, the author of this very heartwarming novel. I mean, what a coincidence!

And if you're such a fan of Elizabeth Gilbert's "Eat Pray Love" then this book is definitely a must read for you especially if you're totally into traveling. Cause reading this tends to feel like you're actually exploring Italy even if you're only within the walls of your bedroom, or laying in your couch. It's like traveling using your book.

Alex Bartlett cares. He’s reading her posts in Daytona Beach, Florida. Following a trail of clues LBH has inadvertently revealed, he discovers that she lives in the small town of Midway, Utah. He makes his way there just after Thanksgiving, determined to find LBH. Maybe she’s a Lisa, Lori, or a Luanne. Instead, he finds a woman named Aria, a waitress at the Mistletoe Diner, who encourages Alex in his search while serving his pie along with some much-needed sympathy and companionship.

Alex finally finds his LBH, a woman who is as beautiful and kind as he imagined she would be. How can he tell her that he knows her secret? What’s holding him back? Could it be his feelings for Aria?]]>

Heart Berries: A Memoir 36384023 Heart Berries is a powerful, poetic memoir of a woman's coming of age on the Seabird Island Indian Reservation in the Pacific Northwest. Having survived a profoundly dysfunctional upbringing only to find herself hospitalized and facing a dual diagnosis of post traumatic stress disorder and bipolar II disorder; Terese Marie Mailhot is given a notebook and begins to write her way out of trauma. The triumphant result is Heart Berries, a memorial for Mailhot's mother, a social worker and activist who had a thing for prisoners; a story of reconciliation with her father—an abusive drunk and a brilliant artist—who was murdered under mysterious circumstances; and an elegy on how difficult it is to love someone while dragging the long shadows of shame.

Mailhot trusts the reader to understand that memory isn't exact, but melded to imagination, pain, and what we can bring ourselves to accept. Her unique and at times unsettling voice graphically illustrates her mental state. As she writes, she discovers her own true voice, seizes control of her story, and, in so doing, reestablishes her connection to her family, to her people, and to her place in the world.]]>

Mansfield Park 45046 An alternate cover edition can be found here.

Adopted into the household of her uncle, Sir Thomas Bertram, Fanny Price grows up a meek outsider among her cousins in the unaccustomed elegance of Mansfield Park. Soon after Sir Thomas absents himself on estate business in Antigua (the family's investment in slavery and sugar is considered in the Introduction in a new, post-colonial light), Mary Crawford and her brother Henry arrive at Mansfield, bringing with them London glamour, and the seductive taste for flirtation and theatre that precipitates a crisis. While Mansfield Park appears in some ways to continue where Pride and Prejudice left off, it is, as Kathryn Sutherland shows in her illuminating Introduction, a much darker work, which challenges 'the very values (of tradition, stability, retirement and faithfulness) it appears to endorse'. This new edition provides an accurate text based, for the first time since its original publication, on the first edition of 1814.]]>

Sea Prayer 38664775 Sea Prayer is composed in the form of a letter, from a father to his son, on the eve of their journey. Watching over his sleeping son, the father reflects on the dangerous sea-crossing that lies before them. It is also a vivid portrait of their life in Homs, Syria, before the war, and of that city's swift transformation from a home into a deadly war zone.

Impelled to write this story by the haunting image of young Alan Kurdi, the three-year-old Syrian boy whose body washed upon the beach in Turkey in September 2015, Hosseini hopes to pay tribute to the millions of families, like Kurdi's, who have been splintered and forced from home by war and persecution, and he will donate author proceeds from this book to the UNHCR (the UN Refugee Agency) and The Khaled Hosseini Foundation to help fund lifesaving relief efforts to help refugees around the globe. Mac's foundation is jostled again moments before an important wedding planning meeting when she bumps into the bride-to-be's brother...an encounter that has them both seeing stars.

Carter Maguire is definitely not her type: he's stable, and he's safe. He's even an English teacher at their high school alma mater. There's something about him that makes Mac think a casual fling is just what she needs to take her mind off dealing with bridezillas and screening her mother's phone calls. But a casual fling can turn into something more when you least expect it. And with the help of her three best friends—and business partners—Mac must learn how to maker her own happy memories.]]>

Breathing Room 1070424 New York Times bestselling author on a journey to the sun-washed hills of Tuscany. Another sexy, wonderful, contemporary love story with all the heart, wisdom, and wit that have made Susan Elizabeth Phillips the gold standard for women's fiction.

She's Dr. Isabel Favor, America's diva of self-help.
He's Ren Gage, Hollywood's favorite villain.
Sometimes you just know that God has a sense of humor.
Dr. Isabel Favor, author of Four Cornerstones for a Favorable Life, has sacrificed everything to build her self-help empire. Then, in a matter of weeks, it all comes crashing down. She loses her money to an unscrupulous accountant, her fiancé to a frumpy older woman, and her reputation to headlines denouncing her as a fraud. America's diva of self-help soon discovers she can fix everyone's life but her own. Broke, heartsick, and soul-weary, she heads for Italy in search of a little breathing room.

Lorenzo Gage makes his living killing people... on the silver screen, that is. He's viciously handsome and sublimely talented. But as he begins his vacation in Italy, he's also vaguely dissatisfied. Being a villain with a face to die for has its rewards, but he hates the feeling that everything he's neglected in life is catching up with him. Then he spots Isabel sipping a glass of wine in a sidewalk café. A good guy wouldn't think of seducing such a tidy-looking woman... but he'd never seen the fun in playing the hero.

It doesn't take long for Isabel to realize she's escaped one kind of chaos only to be plunged into another. Even the shelter of a simple stone farmhouse nestled in a Tuscan olive grove can't provide her with the refuge she needs -- not when the townspeople are scheming to drive her away, and her plan to restore her reputation has come up empty. And especially not when the man who deceived her refuses to leave her in peace.

Breathing Room is a book for any woman who's dreamed of wandering through a vineyard, of lazing under the Tuscan sky, or of reforming a deliciously wicked man. This is a story of hope and renewal, of love and redemption when it's needed the most. Sometimes it takes a special place... a special love... a little breathing room... for life to deliver all its glorious promise.]]>

Totally GREAT!

The story is definitely and totally catchy and at the same time funny.

Two unlikely characters, Isabela and Ren, happened to fall in love and they didn't care that they're so different and that both lead a very different kind of life.

It's also a novel that gives it's own readers so many lessons about life, the enjoyment of living it, and also the struggles that goes with it. Another would be the lessons about MARRIAGE.

Actually, there was one quote by Ms. Susan Elizabeth Phillips that has totally caught my attention (which I believe is totally true) and that is "If we want to EMBRACE LIFE, we also have to EMBRACE CHAOS". It is I believe totally part of living.]]>

I cradled the smooth white cup in my hand, ran my fingers over the uneven top of the time-worn wooden table. I looked around the place and watched people. Time passed. I realised that it was an hour since I first saw the sign telling me to smell the tea. And all this time I had experienced neither sad memories nor anxious worries. <![CDATA[The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society]]> 2728527
“Treat yourself to this book, please - I can’t recommend it highly enough. (Elizabeth Gilbert, author of Eat, Pray, Love)

“I wonder how the book got to Guernsey? Perhaps there is some sort of secret homing instinct in books that brings them to their perfect readers.

January 1946: London is emerging from the shadow of the Second World War, and writer Juliet Ashton is looking for her next book subject. Who could imagine that she would find it in a letter from a man she’s never met, a native of the island of Guernsey, who has come across her name written inside a book by Charles Lamb....

As Juliet and her new correspondent exchange letters, Juliet is drawn into the world of this man and his friends - and what a wonderfully eccentric world it is. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society - born as a spur-of-the-moment alibi when its members were discovered breaking curfew by the Germans occupying their island - boasts a charming, funny, deeply human cast of characters, from pig farmers to phrenologists, literature lovers all. Juliet begins a remarkable correspondence with the society’s members, learning about their island, their taste in books, and the impact the recent German occupation has had on their lives. Captivated by their stories, she sets sail for Guernsey, and what she finds will change her forever.

Written with warmth and humor as a series of letters, this novel is a celebration of the written word in all its guises and of finding connection in the most surprising ways.

Praise for The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society

“A jewel... Poignant and keenly observed, Guernsey is a small masterpiece about love, war, and the immeasurable sustenance to be found in good books and good friends. (People)

“A book-lover’s delight, an implicit and sometimes explicit paean to all things literary. (Chicago Sun-Times)

“A sparkling epistolary novel radiating wit, lightly worn erudition and written with great assurance and aplomb. (The Sunday Times [London])

“Cooked perfectly à point: subtle and elegant in flavour, yet emotionally satisfying to the finish. (The Times [London])]]>

The thing is that I 'am so not into historical fictions (especially when you’re talking about the “German Occupation). But unexpectedly, I really enjoyed my time getting into the world of Juliet Ashton and the residents of Guernsey. A story that I was looking out into my ŷ account from time to time - including its ratings and reviews. However, it really took me awhile to give this one a try (years actually). So a few weeks ago, I’ve decided to buy a second hand copy of the 1st edition on eBay for a very good price, and I’m just glad that I took the risk of buying the novel because it was totally worth it.

For the story wasn’t just unforgettable, but also a very well written historical and epistolary novel. Plus, the way the book was written by its two authors, Mary Ann Shafer and Annie Barrows, was somewhat easy on the eye, and affable to its readers. Making them feel like they were being transported in a different era of bookworms and writers. A world in which the simple pleasures of reading gives comfort and solace to those people who were unfortunate to experience such hard and difficult times.

And I must say, as a reader of this wonderful tale of a young authoress who’ve found such new friends, family, and home in a small island, - I find the story entirely charming, witty, smart, and sweet. Honestly, there a lot of words to describe it. Well apart from that, I would also like to point out that it was a very insightful one to read because it also gave me an idea on how each individual (including its society) were changed during and after the war. Moreover, some knowledge of the famous books and authors in the early 1900’s. Hmm, I guess every generation has its own taste of books and genre.

Then another thing that made me so happy about the book is that the film adaptation is officially on its way starring Lily James (Downton Abbey), Michiel Huisman (Game of Thrones), Jessica Brown Findlay (Downton Abbey), and Matthew Goode (Downton Abbey). For more updates on the upcoming movie you can just check it out on IMDb.com.

So the excitement was really there when I’ve first heard the news, and I just hope that it’s going to be a well-made film adaptation.

Well, that’s it for now. Till my next book review.

Thank you so much for reading. ]]>

Persuasion 208715 Anne Elliot, at the age of nineteen, falls in love with Frederick Wentworth, a young man with no connections and only himself to recommend him. Persuaded by her great friend Lady Russell to break off their engagement Anne has ample opportunity to regret her decision.

Some years later, her father Sir Walter Elliot finds himself financially embarrassed and is forced to let the family home, Kellynch-hall. The new tenants prove to be Admiral and Mrs Croft, brother-in-law and sister to Wentworth, who has prospered and is now a captain. Although he and Anne are thrown into each other's company he still feels bitterness at her rejection. He becomes entangled with Louisa Musgrove while Anne receives the attentions of William Elliot, her cousin. Once again it seems as though happiness is about to elude them...

Persuasion, Jane Austen's last finished novel, is a brilliant satire and evocation of polite society, full of sharp perceptions on people and personal relations, especially love, and a celebration of the finer values in life.]]>

<![CDATA[The Duke and I (Bridgertons, #1)]]> 49426589
In the ballrooms and drawing rooms of Regency London, rules abound. From their earliest days, children of aristocrats learn how to address an earl and curtsey before a prince—while other dictates of the ton are unspoken yet universally understood. A proper duke should be imperious and aloof. A young, marriageable lady should be amiable…but not too amiable.

Daphne Bridgerton has always failed at the latter. The fourth of eight siblings in her close-knit family, she has formed friendships with the most eligible young men in London. Everyone likes Daphne for her kindness and wit. But no one truly desires her. She is simply too deuced honest for that, too unwilling to play the romantic games that captivate gentlemen.

Amiability is not a characteristic shared by Simon Basset, Duke of Hastings. Recently returned to England from abroad, he intends to shun both marriage and society—just as his callous father shunned Simon throughout his painful childhood. Yet an encounter with his best friend’s sister offers another option. If Daphne agrees to a fake courtship, Simon can deter the mamas who parade their daughters before him. Daphne, meanwhile, will see her prospects and her reputation soar.

The plan works like a charm—at first. But amid the glittering, gossipy, cut-throat world of London’s elite, there is only one certainty:

Love ignores every rule…]]>

Fangirl 17450549 Fangirl, Cath is a Simon Snow fan. Okay, the whole world is a Simon Snow fan, but for Cath, being a fan is her life—and she’s really good at it. She and her twin sister, Wren, ensconced themselves in the Simon Snow series when they were just kids; it’s what got them through their mother leaving.

Reading. Rereading. Hanging out in Simon Snow forums. Writing Simon Snow fan fiction. Dressing up like the characters for every movie premiere.

Wren has mostly grown away from fandom, but Cath can’t let go. She doesn’t want to.

Now that they’re going to college, Wren has told Cath she doesn’t want to be roommates. Cath is on her own—completely outside of her comfort zone. She’s got a surly roommate with a charming, always-around boyfriend, a fiction-writing professor who thinks fan fiction is the end of the civilized world, and a handsome classmate who only wants to talk about words. And she can’t stop worrying about her dad, who’s loving and fragile and has never really been alone.

For Cath, the question is: Can she do this? Can she make it without Wren holding her hand? Is she ready to start living her own life? And does she even want to move on if it means leaving Simon Snow behind?]]>

The Gift 1469894 On a June day, a young woman in a summer dress steps off a Chicago-bound bus into a small midwestern town. She doesn't intend to stay. She is just passing through. Yet her stopping here has a reason and it is part of a story that you will never forget.

The time is the 1950s, when life was simpler, people still believed in dreams, and family was, very nearly, everything. The place is a small midwestern town with a high school and a downtown, a skating pond and a movie house. And on a tree-lined street in the heartland of America, an extraordinary set of events begins to unfold. And gradually what seems serendipitous is tinged with purpose. A happy home is shattered by a child's senseless death. A loving marriage starts to unravel. And a stranger arrives—a young woman who will touch many lives before she moves on. She and a young man will meet and fall in love. Their love, so innocent and full of hope, helps to restore a family's dreams. And all of their lives will be changed forever by the precious gift she leaves them.

The Gift, Danielle Steel's thirty-third best-selling work, is a magical story told with stunning simplicity and power. It reveals a relationship so moving it will take your breath away. And it tells a haunting and beautiful truth about the unpredictability—and the wonder—of life.]]>

Emma 274404 Emma abounds in the droll character sketches at which Jane Austen excelled. In addition to the well-intentional heroine and her hypochondriacal father, the village of Highbury during the Regency period is populated by an amusing circle of friends and family kindhearted but tedious Miss Bates, a chatterbox spinster; ambitious Mr. Elton, a social-climbing parson; Frank Churchill, an enigmatic Romeo; Mr. Knightley, Emma's brother-in-law and the voice of her better nature; and a cluster of other finely drawn, unforgettable personalities.
The author's skill at depicting the follies of human nature in a manner both realistic and affectionate elevates this tale of provincial matchmaking to the heights of scintillating satire. A classic of English literature that has delighted readers since its 1816 publication, the novel is now available in this high-quality, inexpensive edition sure to charm a new generation.]]>

The Forty Rules of Love by Elif Shafak is an eloquently written story about one’s quest and spiritual journey infused with mysticism and verse in order to understand more the true essence of one’s strong faith and pure love. And as to what it truly means into our lives, and how it connects us to build a much Beautiful relationship to Our Dearest God.

Moreover, this narrative novel contains two parallel worlds that somewhat relates to one another. First is the story of Ella Rubinstein, and the second one is about the famous 13th Century Sufi Poet named Rumi and his spiritual mentor Shams of Tabriz including the forty rules of life and love.

And this was so good to read that I could have chosen to finish it as fast as I can, but I didn’t. For the reason that I wanted to read it in such a pace by savouring every word of wisdom about life and love. And when I finally got into the last few chapters of the novel, I don’t know what just happened, but I suddenly cried when I got into the part in which the Forty Rules of Love was finally revealed. Aleph 16028259
In his most personal novel to date, internationally bestselling author Paulo Coelho returns with a remarkable journey of self-discovery. Like the main character in his much-beloved The Alchemist, Paulo is facing a grave crisis of faith. As he seeks a path of spiritual renewal and growth, he decides to begin again: to travel, to experiment, to reconnect with people and landscapes around him.

Setting off to Africa, and then to Europe and Asia via the Trans-Siberian Railway, he initiates a journey to revitalize his energy and passion. Even so, he never expects to meet Hilal. A gifted young violinist, she is the woman Paulo loved five hundred years before—and the woman he betrayed in an act of cowardice so far-reaching that it prevents him from finding real hapiness in this life. Together they will initiate a mystical voyage through time and space, traveling a path that teaches love, forgiveness, and the courage to overcome life's inevitable challenges. Beautiful and inspiring, Aleph invites us to consider the meaning of our own personal journeys: Are we where we want to be, doing what we want to do?]]>

A story about finding one’s spiritual growth and guidance, and also the true essence of wanderlust. But as a reader, you have to be very open-minded of a certain issue (which isn’t really by the way) that you will encounter in this novel.

Well anyway, here the following thoughts from the author that I’ve highlighted while reading it:

* Let us concentrate all our efforts on achieving perfection through the imperfect gestures of everyday life. True wisdom means respecting the simple things we do, for they can take us where we need to go.

*Don’t be intimidated by other people’s opinions. Only mediocrity is sure of itself, so take risks and do what you really want to do.

*Love is just a word until someone comes along and gives it meaning.

*If you conquer yourself, then you conquer the world.

*Sometimes you have to travel a long way to find what is near.

*To live is to experience things, not sit around pondering the meaning of life.

*True wisdom consists in respecting the simple things we do.

*That is what marks out the warrior: the knowledge that willpower and courage are not the same thing. Courage can attract fear and adulation, but willpower requires patience and commitment. Men and women with immense willpower are generally solitary types and give off a kind of coolness. Many people mistakenly think that (they) are cold (people) when nothing could be further from the truth.]]>

As a female bookworm, who’ve just finished reading the tale of a young Brazilian woman named Maria, I find the novel at first a bit uncomfortable to read; but chose to be more open-minded. And I’m so glad that I’ve decided to go all the way, because this is such an insightful and beautiful story to get hooked into.

Moreover, now I know why Paulo Coelho had to Pray before publishing this book. For writing this was a bit difficult and it frightened him. But a certain stranger he met inside a church in France gave him hope to overcome his fears. Overall, this is definitely worth reading all the way.

And here are the following quotes that I’ve highlighted while reading the book:

“I can choose either to be a victim of the world or an adventurer in search of a treasure. It’s all a question of how I view my life.

“I want to fight for life. If I can walk on my own, I can go wherever I like.

“The person who gives him or herself wholly, the person who feels the freest, is the person who loves most wholeheartedly. And the person who loves wholeheartedly feels free.

“The more you gave, the more you got back.

“Love is not to be found in someone else, but in ourselves; we simply awaken it.

“The woman in front of me has managed to overcome suffering and transform it into something positive and creative.

“What is real always finds a way of revealing itself.

“Everyone knows how to love, because we are all born with that gift.”]]>

Tuesdays with Morrie 825440
For Mitch Albom, that person was Morrie Schwartz, his college professor from nearly twenty years ago.

Maybe, like Mitch, you lost track of this mentor as you made your way, and the insights faded, and the world seemed colder. Wouldn't you like to see that person again, ask the bigger questions that still haunt you, receive wisdom for your busy life today the way you once did when you were younger?

Mitch Albom had that second chance. He rediscovered Morrie in the last months of the older man's life. Knowing he was dying, Morrie visited with Mitch in his study every Tuesday, just as they used to back in college. Their rekindled relationship turned into one final "class": lessons in how to live.

Tuesdays with Morrie is a magical chronicle of their time together, through which Mitch shares Morrie's lasting gift with the world.]]>

The way you get meaning into your life is to devote yourself to loving others, devote yourself to your community around you, and devote yourself to creating something that gives you purpose and meaning.

*“This is part of what a family is about, not just love. It's knowing that your family will be there watching out for you. Nothing else will give you that. Not money. Not fame. Not work.

*“The most important thing in life is to learn how to give out love, and to let it come in. Let it come in. We think we don’t deserve love, we think if we let it in we’ll become too soft. But a wise man named Levin said it right. He said, “Love is the only rational act.

*“Be compassionate," Morrie whispered. And take responsibility for each other. If we only learned those lessons, this world would be so much better a place."

Letter to My Daughter 39082064 Dedicated to the daughter she never had but sees all around her, "Letter to My Daughter" reveals Maya Angelou's path to living well and living a life with meaning. Told in her own inimitable style, this book transcends genres and categories: guidebook, memoir, poetry, and pure delight.
Here in short spellbinding essays are glimpses of the tumultuous life that led Angelou to an exalted place in American letters and taught her lessons in compassion and fortitude: how she was brought up by her indomitable grandmother in segregated Arkansas, taken in at thirteen by her more worldly and less religious mother, and grew to be an awkward, six-foot-tall teenager whose first experience of loveless sex paradoxically left her with her greatest gift, a son.
Whether she is recalling such lost friends as Coretta Scott King and Ossie Davis, extolling honesty, decrying vulgarity, explaining why becoming a Christian is a "lifelong endeavor," or simply singing the praises of a meal of red rice-Maya Angelou writes from the heart to millions of women she considers her extended family.
Like the rest of her remarkable work, "Letter to My Daughter" entertains and teaches; it is a book to cherish, savor, and share.
"I gave birth to one child, a son, but I have thousands of daughters. You are Black and White, Jewish and Muslim, Asian, Spanish speaking, Native Americans and Aleut. You are fat and thin and pretty and plain, gay and straight, educated and unlettered, and I am speaking to you all. Here is my offering to you."

Can You Keep a Secret? 882043 This is an alternate cover edition for ISBN 0552150827/9780552150828.

Emma is like every girl in the world. She has a few little secrets.

Secrets from her mother:
1. I lost my virginity in the spare bedroom to Danny Nussbaum while Mum and Dad were downstairs watching Ben Hur.

...From her boyfriend:
2. I'm a size twelve. Not a size eight, like Connor thinks.
3. I've always thought Connor looks a bit like Ken. As in Barbie and Ken.

...From her colleagues:
4. When Artemis really annoys me, I feed her plant orange juice. (Which is pretty much every day)
5. It was me who jammed the copier that time. In fact, all the times.

...Secrets she wouldn't share with anyone in the world:
6. My G string is hurting me.
7. I faked my Maths GCSE grade on my CV.
8. I have no idea what NATO stands for. Or even what it is...

...until she spills them all to a stranger on a plane. At least, she thought he was a stranger...]]>

The Art of Racing in the Rain 4951746
Through Denny, Enzo has gained tremendous insight into the human condition, and he sees that life, like racing, isn't simply about going fast. On the eve of his death, Enzo takes stock of his life, recalling all that he and his family have been through.

A heart-wrenching but deeply funny and ultimately uplifting story of family, love, loyalty, and hope, The Art of Racing in the Rain is a beautifully crafted and captivating look at the wonders and absurdities of human life ... as only a dog could tell it.]]>

To be honest, I am a reader who does have this thing called Cynophia or "fear of dogs". But through the years, I have slowly overcome such anxiety whenever I tend to be near one. The fear is still there but only to those dogs that looks a bit bigger or larger in sizes.

So what made me decided to read such a novel? It was because of the film adaption. Watching the trailer was somewhat intriguing and all; that I just had to read the book first before seeing it. And just on a recent trip, I went to visit this bookstore which sells a copy of this and brought it right away.

Well the first half of the book wasn’t really that captivating at all. For it was a bit disturbing.

However, when I was halfway there into the story, it has gotten so thrilling and exciting that I just couldn’t put it down. That despite my work schedule, I would tend to bring it with me. Put in my work backpack and then read it during my free time. Yup, it has turned out to be so good at all!

By the time I was only a few chapters away by finishing it, I felt that melancholy within me because I’m about to know on what was going to be the outcome of Denny, his street-smart daughter Zoë, and of course! Enzo!

Then I’ve finished reading the whole book. But I have decided not to share out as to what I’ve felt about the ending because I don’t what to spoil it for anyone who still haven’t read it or watch the film adaption.

All I can say is that, I’ve learned a lot from this amazing dog named Enzo, and also from his strong-willed master Denny. And that is, it is our choice to be the kind of person that we wanted to be. Our Destiny. To never stop believing towards our dreams and to what our heart truly desires. Although there may be times that our patience will be put out to the test. But such determination and strong Faith to never give up are the things we need in order to get to where we wanted to be. And even if we may not see it right away. But eventually, everything will fall into place. Just trust the process and never stop fighting for it all the way. For the universe will truly align everything and will conspire for it to make it happen. The secret is to believe in it with all our heart.

Overall, it’s been such a great opportunity to read such a beautiful and inspiring story. So for anyone out there, who’s looking for a new book to read. I would definitely and highly recommend it to you to read such a novel.

Thank you so much for reading my book review.

God Bless us all.

And just a plus side for this post, here are the following quotes that I've highlighted while reading the book:

“That which we manifest is before us; we are the creators of our own destiny. Be it through intention or ignorance, our successes and our failures have been brought on by none other than ourselves.
“There is no dishonor in losing the race. There is only dishonor in not racing because you are afraid to lose.
“The true hero is flawed. The true test of a champion is not whether he can triumph, but whether he can overcome obstacles - preferably of his own making - in order to triumph.
“You should shine with all of your light all the time.
“The car goes where the eyes go.
“People are always worried about what's happening next. They often find it difficult to stand still, to occupy the now without worrying about the future. People are generally not satisfied with what they have; they are very concerned with what they are going to have.
“We too, must shatter the mirrors. We must look in to ourselves and root out the distortions until that thing which we know in our hearts is perfect and true, stands before us.
“I know this much about racing in the rain. I know it is about balance. It is about anticipation and patience... [it is also] about the mind! It is about owning one's body... It is about believing that you are not you; you are everything. And everything is you.

The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein is a heartwarming and insightful story about a philosophical dog named Enzo that was raised by a loving and strong family who actually thinks and perceives almost like a human being minus the ability to talk. And it feels refreshing to read a novel like this, for it gives out a whole new perspective to its readers about the many wonders and quirkiness of human life as being narrated by a unique dog.

To be honest, I am a reader who does have this thing called Cynophia or "fear of dogs". But through the years, I have slowly overcome such anxiety whenever I tend to be near one. The fear is still there but only to those dogs that looks a bit bigger or larger in sizes.

Anyway, the whole point of the book is all about pursuing of what you believe in - and also having the faith and courage to follow what your heart and mind truly desires. To be more braver than ever in order to fight harder and not let anyone dictate your own path. Cause it’s yours alone and no one else. Always remember that.

And here are the following excerpts or thoughts that I’ve highlighted while reading this soulful novel:

“Every moment in life is an act of Faith.

“People give flowers as presents because flowers contain the true meaning of love. Anyone who tried to possess a flower will have to watch its beauty fading. But if you simply look at a flower in a field, you will keep it forever, because the flower is part of the evening and the sunset and the smell of damp earth and the clouds on the horizon.

“I must take risks,

“Learning something means coming into contact with a world of which you know nothing. In order to learn, you must be humble.

“Remember, the first road to God is Prayer, the second is joy.

“When you find your path, you must not be afraid. You need to have sufficient courage to make mistakes. Disappointment, defeat, and despair are the tools God uses to show us the way.

Brida by Paulo Coelho is the kind of story that talks about our own journey and making life changing choices. Although there’s a certain issue in the novel that a reader would mostly encounter; but still, I’ve chosen to be more open-minded about it.

At the age of eight years old, I lost two things: my parents and something that most people take for granted. It was at that moment I began to experience the world differently from everyone else. I accepted my fate, living my life to the fullest and the best way I know how. Giving up on love was something I had to do because men couldn’t cope with my condition. Then I met him and he changed everything for me. A smart, sexy, and shattered man who hid in the shadows of his own tragedy. A man who kept the better part of himself concealed away from the world. I wanted to show him that life was more than how he saw it. My name is Aubrey Callahan and I am blind.

The moment I laid eyes on her, I wanted her. She was beautiful, uncomplicated, and one night was all I needed. People referred to me as “The Iceman because I was controlling, ruthless, and didn’t give a damn about people’s feelings. I was a user and the only person I protected was myself. Then something happened after a single night with her. The feelings and nightmares that I buried years ago began to resurface. Even though I was a billionaire who could have anything in the world, I couldn’t stop the demons that lived inside me. Aubrey couldn’t see me for who I really was and she deserved better than me. My name is Ethan Klein and I am a destroyed man.

Becoming 38744839
In her memoir, a work of deep reflection and mesmerizing storytelling, Michelle Obama invites readers into her world, chronicling the experiences that have shaped her—from her childhood on the South Side of Chicago to her years as an executive balancing the demands of motherhood and work, to her time spent at the world’s most famous address. With unerring honesty and lively wit, she describes her triumphs and her disappointments, both public and private, telling her full story as she has lived it—in her own words and on her own terms. Warm, wise, and revelatory, Becoming is the deeply personal reckoning of a woman of soul and substance who has steadily defied expectations—and whose story inspires us to do the same.]]>

YES! In fact it truly is!

Earlier this morning, after almost two weeks of taking the time to read it chapter by chapter especially during my free time from work. I’ve finally finished reading the book and it really took a while for me to clear my thoughts- for I know that there are so many things that I just so wanted to point out because this is such an amazing biography. One that is worth reading all the way.

For one thing, I would most definitely say that Former US First Lady Michelle Obama is the kind of woman who represented a community and a race that is unjustly treated. And because of that, it motivated her to rise beyond her potential despite such racial discriminations.

But this woman is not only smart and feisty. For as I’ve already written before, she carries with her a self confidence in a most humbling and graceful kind of way that truly makes her an inspiration of today’s generation.

Overall, this book is intellectually, eloquently, and Heartily written. An empowering and inspiring memoir that gives its readers a glimpse into the struggles and triumphs of Barack and Michelle Obama. The partnership and love between two such opposite minded couple that paved way to build a leadership based on social equality, genuine kindness and fairness for their beloved country. And not only that, they also took into consideration that despite the hustle and bustles of living a political and professional life - at the end of the day, what truly matters most is Family.

Furthermore, here are the following thoughts or excerpts that I’ve highlighted while I was reading the book:

“We need to remain both tough and hopeful, to acknowledge that there’s more growing to be done.

“Work hard, laugh often, and keep my word.

“For me, becoming isn’t about arriving somewhere or achieving a certain aim. I see it instead as forward motion, a means of evolving, a way to reach continuously toward a better self. The journey doesn’t end. I became a mother, but I still have a lot to learn from and give to my children. I became a wife, but I continue to adapt to and be humbled by what it means to truly love and make a life with another person. I have become, by certain measures, a person of power, and yet there are moments still when I feel insecure or unheard.

“Am I good enough? Yes, in fact I am.

“Life was teaching me that progress and change happen slowly. Not in two years, four years, or even a lifetime. We were planting seeds of change, the fruit of which we might never see. We had to be patient.

“If there’s one thing I’ve learned in life, it’s the power of using your voice. I tried my best to speak the truth and shed light on the stories of people whoare often brushed aside.

“If you don’t get out there and define yourself, you’ll be quickly and inaccurately defined by others.

“You may live in the world as it is, but you can still work to create the world as it should be.”]]>
