April 2013: Here is where everything gets real. I am currently writing the last book in the Pretty in Black series and I'm already starting to experience The Feels. I really don't want to say goodbye to Marcus & Ellie or the world of Nevermore and I also never want to write another book after this one again because how could I? I consider Pretty in Black to be my masterpiece; how can I write something greater than this?

That is awaiting to be seen. I will just have to keep challenging myself. I may even swap over to dark contemporary after this, because no fantasy I could write would compare to what I've already created here. I'm pretty sure that this book and the Eternally trilogy might be my last fantasy/paranormal. (Although I do have plans for fantasy/surrealism/action that doesn't involve creatures of the night)


I wrote the ending first so I already know the conclusion to this series. And I know that just because I'm finished writing the series doesn't mean the series is over. It still has a long way to go. Okay so this would be the book that was difficult. And by difficult I mean tear shedding, hair pulling, delete button using, paper ripping mess. This book gave me the most trouble. Imagine having scenes written out of order and trying to piece together the big picture while simultaneously keeping up with like approximately (seemingly) 50 different character plot lines and backstory threads while also keeping those things out of the main storyline, but having to remember them for character motive and for everything to make sense.

PS: writing the fight scenes were excruciatingly difficult to do. I'd never done anything like that before. And I ended up rewriting them. Originally it was fire, but at the last minute I changed the scenes to ice.

I'm satisfied with the way the book ends. I think it's temporarily satisfying to readers who are awaiting the final segment and conclusion to this series, but if you were to ask me what scenes I enjoyed writing in this book the answer would be: None. My joy came from actually finishing it. If only you could of seen my reaction when I got to THE END and hit print; it was like I'd won the lottery or something.

I haven't read this yet, but it sounds like something that I would absolutely LOVE, and I'm excited for it. There are three separate endings to the book. Depending on where you stop, you are left with an entirely different story. One ending is sweet, another is horrible. The last one is the true ending, the one with teeth in it.

The Adventures of the Princess and Mr. Whiffle is a dark twist on the classic children's picture-book. I think of it as Calvin and Hobbes meets Coraline, with some Edward Gorey mixed in.
