Boka skildrer ofrenes historier.

Mike Hayes fought his way out of a brutal childhood and into a quiet, if lonely life, before he met Verity Metcalf. V taught him about love, and in return, Mike has dedicated his life to making her happy. He’s found the perfect home, the perfect job, he’s sculpted himself into the physical ideal V has always wanted. He knows they’ll be blissfully happy together.

It doesn’t matter that she hasn’t been returning his emails or phone calls.
It doesn’t matter that she says she’s marrying Angus.

It’s all just part of the secret game they used to play. If Mike watches V closely, he’ll see the signs. If he keeps track of her every move he’ll know just when to come to her rescue

The Last Final Girl 16039485
Aerial View: A suburban town in Texas. Everyone's got an automatic garage door opener. All the kids jump off a perilous cliff into a shallow river as a rite of passage. The sheriff is a local celebrity. You know this town. You're from this town.

Zoom In: Homecoming princess, Lindsay. She's just barely escaped death at the hands of a brutal, sadistic murderer in a Michael Jackson mask. Up on the cliff, she was rescued by a horse and bravely defeated the killer, alone, bra-less. Her story is already a legend. She's this town's heroic final girl, their virgin angel.

Monster Vision: Halloween masks floating down that same river the kids jump into. But just as one slaughter is not enough for Billie Jean, our masked killer, one victory is not enough for Lindsay. Her high school is full of final girls, and she's not the only one who knows the rules of the game.

When Lindsay chooses a host of virgins, misfits, and former final girls to replace the slaughtered members of her original homecoming court, it's not just a fight for survival-it's a fight to become The Last Final Girl.]]>

We Used to Live Here 199798006
As a young, queer couple who flip houses, Charlie and Eve can’t believe the killer deal they’ve just gotten on an old house in a picturesque neighborhood. As they’re working in the house one day, there’s a knock on the door. A man stands there with his family, claiming to have lived there years before and asking if it would be alright if he showed his kids around. People pleaser to a fault, Eve lets them in.

As soon as the strangers enter their home, inexplicable things start happening, including the family’s youngest child going missing and a ghostly presence materializing in the basement. Even more weird, the family can’t seem to take the hint that their visit should be over. And when Charlie suddenly vanishes, Eve slowly loses her grip on reality. Something is terribly wrong with the house and with the visiting family—or is Eve just imagining things?

This unputdownable and spine-tingling novel “is like quicksand: the further you delve into its pages, the more immobilized you become by a spiral of terror. We Used to Live Here will haunt you even after you have finished it (Agustina Bazterrica, author of Tender Is the Flesh).]]>

Interesting concept but wasn't a fan of the way it was done. Renee is eager to let Nick remember and talk about his past but later on in the book it is not that important anymore. Like it was misplaced or something and the author is very hesitant. It is like he wants to tell many stories in one plot or not sure what kind of book he wanted to write. And the characters didn't have much personality.

Where They Wait had some interesting aspects and some techologic horror is scary but not this one. How can an app be scary?]]>

And then, driving with her young daughter one day, she gets out of her car to ask directions from another driver, is killed. The little girl escapes when the gunman's pistol misfires.

Inspector Hal Challis, to whose Crime Investigation Unit the case falls, is thwarted in his efforts by his boss. The dead woman was Superintendent McQuarrie’s daughter-in-law. He seems to be more interested in protecting his son than in finding his daughter-in-law’s murderer. Who might have a motive to kill this attractive young wife and mother? One of her clients? Clara Woods is a killer—and perfectly fine with it, too. So what if she takes a couple of lives to make her own a little bit better? At the bottom of her garden is a flowerbed, long overgrown, where her late husband rests in peace—or so she always thought.

Then the girls arrive.

Lily and Violet are her nieces, recently orphaned after their affluent parents died on an ill-fated anniversary trip. In accordance with their parents' will, the sisters are to go to their closest relative—who just so happens to be Clara. Despite having no interest in children, Clara agrees to take them, hoping to get her hands on some of the girls' assets—not just to bolster her dwindling fortune, but also to establish what she hopes will be her legacy: a line of diamond jewelry.

There's only one problem. Violet can see the dead man at the bottom of the garden. She can see all of Clara's ghosts…and call them back into existence. Soon Clara is plagued by her victims and at war with the gifted girls in her care. Lily and Violet have become a liability—and know far more than they should…]]>

Victorian Psycho 213395480 From the acclaimed author of Mrs. March comes the riveting tale of a bloodthirsty governess who learns the true meaning of vengeance.

Grim Wolds, England: Winifred Notty arrives at Ensor House prepared to play the perfect governess—she’ll dutifully tutor her charges, Drusilla and Andrew, tell them bedtime stories, and only joke about eating children. But long, listless days spent within the estate’s dreary confines come with an intimate knowledge of the perversions and pathetic preoccupations of the Pounds family—Mr. Pounds can’t keep his eyes off Winifred’s chest, and Mrs. Pounds takes a sickly pleasure in punishing Winifred for her husband’s wandering gaze. Compounded with her disdain for the entitled Pounds children, Winifred finds herself struggling at every turn to stifle the violent compulsions of her past. French tutoring and needlework are one way to pass the time, as is admiring the ugly portraits in the gallery . . . and creeping across the moonlit lawns. . . .

Patience. Winifred must have patience, for Christmas is coming, and she has very special gifts planned for the dear souls of Ensor House. Brimming with sardonic wit and culminating in a shocking conclusion, Victorian Psycho plunges readers into the chilling mind of an iconic new literary psychopath.]]>

Security 30753986 “Original and imaginative . . . Ripping suspense, sheer terror, and a wrenching love story. —Sandra Brown, New York Times bestselling author of Friction

The terrible truth about Manderley is that someone is always watching.

Manderley Resort is a gleaming, new twenty-story hotel on the California coast. It’s about to open its doors, and the world--at least those with the means to afford it--will be welcomed into a palace of opulence and unparalleled security. But someone is determined that Manderley will never open. The staff has no idea that their every move is being watched, and over the next twelve hours they will be killed off, one by one.

Writing in the tradition of Edgar Allan Poe and Stephen King, and with a deep bow to Daphne du Maurier, author Gina Wohlsdorf pairs narrative ingenuity and razor-wire prose with quick twists, sharp turns, and gasp-inducing terror. Security is grand guignol storytelling at its very best.

A shocking thriller, a brilliant narrative puzzle, and a multifaceted love story unlike any other, Security marks the debut of a fearless and gifted writer.

“Be surprised, be very surprised: Gina Wohlsdorf brings more than just plot twists and a terrifically tender love story to this thriller . . . It’s her playful homage to Hitchcock and du Maurier that had me reading, howling, and just plain loving this novel. —Sara Gruen, author of At the Water’s Edge

Grand Hotel meets Psycho in the age of surveillance . . . Security is cinematically vivid, crisply written, and sharp enough to cut . . . Wohlsdorf brilliantly subverts our expectations of the action genre in this smart, shocking, poignant thriller. —Emily Croy Barker, author of The Thinking Woman’s Guide to Real Magic

“The thrill of this novel goes beyond its wickedly clever, split-screen, high-tech wizardry—a kind of video gamer’s literary retake of Hitchcock’s Rear Window--and emanates from its strange, disembodied narrator . . . The effect is terrifying, sexy, dizzying, and impossible to look away from. —Tim Johnston, author of Descent

“Shocking and filled with Tarantino-ish dark humor. . . Structurally reminiscent of the amazing Jennifer Egan,Wohlsdorf’s book is certainly a hybrid, like nothing else. Get ready. —Ann Beattie, author of The State We’re In

“Flawless . . . Security is perfectly tuned for blockbuster status . . . They don’t make a hotel big enough to house all the people who will want to read this, and soon, as in Manderley, all eyes will be on Wohlsdorf. —Daniel Kraus, Booklist, starred review

The book has an interesting perspective. It is told from some of the hotel staff's perspective and an unknown narrator. And we also see what is going on from different cameras which is done in a creative way. She writes from cameras perspective in columns and it feels like Big Brother style sometimes.

Creaitive writing and plot but I would like the book more if it was less sex and humor. But did love the killing parts and wanted more of that instead, because some of the murdering scenes was sometimes original and fun. The book also had some movie referances like The Shining.

I liked some of the weird characters, the beginning and the end but the middle part was a bit annoying and mostly standing still. But I want to try more of her books later because of the writing style, which was playful and at times dark.]]>

Published in 2016 and a debut. Tessa who is a manager, makes sure that the hotel is safe and ready for the opening in a few days. But what she and the staff doesn't know, is that there is a killer inside with them. Killing them one by one in a brutal way.

Wilde Lake 26198780 After I’m Gone, I’d Know You Anywhere, and What the Dead Know, challenges our notions of memory, loyalty, responsibility, and justice in this evocative and psychologically complex story about a long-ago death that still haunts a family.

Luisa “Lu Brant is the newly elected—and first female—state’s attorney of Howard County, Maryland, a job in which her widower father famously served. Fiercely intelligent and ambitious, she sees an opportunity to make her name by trying a mentally disturbed drifter accused of beating a woman to death in her home. It’s not the kind of case that makes headlines, but peaceful Howard county doesn’t see many homicides.

As Lu prepares for the trial, the case dredges up painful memories, reminding her small but tight-knit family of the night when her brother, AJ, saved his best friend at the cost of another man’s life. Only eighteen, AJ was cleared by a grand jury. Now, Lu wonders if the events of 1980 happened as she remembers them. What details might have been withheld from her when she was a child?

The more she learns about the case, the more questions arise. What does it mean to be a man or woman of one’s times? Why do we ask our heroes of the past to conform to the present’s standards? Is that fair? Is it right? Propelled into the past, she discovers that the legal system, the bedrock of her entire life, does not have all the answers. Lu realizes that even if she could learn the whole truth, she probably wouldn’t want to.]]>

Interesting cover, concept and characters. While Jay is being stuck in the whale, he thinks a lot about his father and the plot jumps back and forth in time. Giving us examples of why father and son drifted apart. Will Jay ever forgive his father for being so harsh and will he get some sort of a closure?

I liked reading about the weird bond between father and son. Reading about dysfunctional families has always been interesting. But the book didn't need to be over 300 pages long. The plot isn't that big and would fit in a short story format instead cause it got very repetive towards the end.

Weird and fascinating read but would like it better if it wasn't biblical.]]>

The Glass Castle 7445 THE #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

The Glass Castle is a remarkable memoir of resilience and redemption, and a revelatory look into a family at once deeply dysfunctional and uniquely vibrant. When sober, Jeannette's brilliant and charismatic father captured his children's imagination, teaching them physics, geology, and how to embrace life fearlessly. But when he drank, he was dishonest and destructive. Her mother was a free spirit who abhorred the idea of domesticity and didn't want the responsibility of raising a family.

The Walls children learned to take care of themselves. They fed, clothed, and protected one another, and eventually found their way to New York. Their parents followed them, choosing to be homeless even as their children prospered.

The Glass Castle is truly astonishing--a memoir permeated by the intense love of a peculiar but loyal family.]]>

In the small town of Winston, Pennsylvania, they fear the Lord of the Wood almost as much as they fear God. According to legend, ghosts of the nearby forest steal unattended babies, leaving enigmatic tokens of wood and bone in their place. Leah Jones didn’t believe the legend, thinking it just a way to scare the local kids―until her baby brother disappears.

Filled with shame and the weight of the town’s judgment, Leah crosses the river into the Lord of the Wood’s domain to bring her brother back. But the devilish figure who has haunted Winston for generations isn’t what she expects. He tells her she can have her brother back... for a price.

It’s a bargain that will uncover secrets her hometown has tried to keep buried for decades. And what she unearths will have her questioning everything she’s been taught to fear.]]>

My Throat an Open Grave is about Leah from Winston. She is a teenager with a difficult home life. Her dad is often away because of his job and Leah often has to take care of her baby brother Owen when her mom is at work.

She wishes Owen away because he always cry when she is near him and she just want an ordinary life. The creature LoW, Lord of the Woods is famous in Winston. Snatches people when he hears that wish. He is a creature in the woods, on the other side of the river. One day Owen is taken while Leah is home alone with him. She gets all the blame and her mom asks her to find LoW and bring Owen back. Leah knows she doesn't have a choice.

Good start with some horror elements but it becomes quickly boring because instead of horror I got romance and fantasy. Genres I'm not into. And the Lord of the Woods was more hilarious instead of scary. Don't know how many times he was chewing his lips and if Leah wanted to stay with him or go back to her family. It was getting annoying. The twist wasn't shocking either because if you read closely there are hints along the way.

Not my kind of book at all. I was bored most of the time and there wasn't much depth in the characters. And I didn't care about the possibly love part. Maybe too old to believe in true love and don't care much reading about it. Not the kind of horror book I thought it was going to be ...]]>

Diavola 126918202 Jennifer Thorne skewers all-too-familiar family dynamics in this sly, wickedly funny vacation-Gothic. Beautifully unhinged and deeply satisfying, Diavola is a sharp twist on the classic haunted house story, exploring loneliness, belonging, and the seemingly inescapable bonds of family mythology.

Anna has two rules for the annual Pace family destination vacations: Tread lightly and survive.

It isn’t easy when she’s the only one in the family who doesn’t quite fit in. Her twin brother, Benny, goes with the flow so much he’s practically dissolved, and her older sister, Nicole, is so used to everyone—including her blandly docile husband and two kids—falling in line that Anna often ends up in trouble for simply asking a question. Mom seizes every opportunity to question her life choices, and Dad, when not reminding everyone who paid for this vacation, just wants some peace and quiet.

The gorgeous, remote villa in tiny Monteperso seems like a perfect place to endure so much family togetherness, until things start going off the rails—the strange noises at night, the unsettling warnings from the local villagers, and the dark, violent past of the villa itself.

(Warning: May invoke feelings of irritation, dread, and despair that come with large family gatherings.)]]>

Anna and her closest family members goes to Italy to have some vacation together. The family often argue and is rude to Anna but Anna isn't any better, so it was hard to feel sorry for her. They are not allowed up in the tower in the place they rent and Anna experience a lot of scary things, but is it only haunting her or can the other family members feel it too?

It felt like reading two books in one. It got the vacation part and when Anna is back to New York. I prefered to read rhe part when they were in Italy and the strange family dynamics. The family is not shocking because I have read about worse families. But I got tired of all the Italian words and lines and being reminded of Anna is the only one in the family who speaks a bit Italian. There was also a lot of reminders they were on vacation, vacation and vacation. Despite that the book lacked some of the Italian atmosphere.

And the direction the plot took got messy and I lost interest a lot of times. The ending was just lame and disappointing. To call this horror is not correct. It is more dark humor with a few horror elements. If you haven't read it yet, don't feel sorry about it.]]>

The Last House Guest 42190273
Littleport, Maine, has always felt like two separate towns: an ideal vacation enclave for the wealthy, whose summer homes line the coastline; and a simple harbor community for the year-round residents whose livelihoods rely on service to the visitors.

Typically, fierce friendships never develop between a local and a summer girl—but that’s just what happens with visitor Sadie Loman and Littleport resident Avery Greer. Each summer for almost a decade, the girls are inseparable—until Sadie is found dead. While the police rule the death a suicide, Avery can’t help but feel there are those in the community, including a local detective and Sadie’s brother, Parker, who blame her. Someone knows more than they’re saying, and Avery is intent on clearing her name, before the facts get twisted against her.
The Last House Guest is a smart, twisty read that brilliantly explores the elusive nature of memory and the complexities of female friendships.]]>

review:
While everyone thinks Sadie took her own life, Avery knew her best and is sure that Sadie wouldn't do that. She is tired of Littleport and a certain rich peopl. She wants to show them the truth. But is she right or is she just obsessed with hear dead friend?

It is fun reading about rich people and their drama but not this time. Avery was just a whiny and boring main character and the writing style was pretty flat. It didn't feel like a psuchological thriller at all.

Most of the charactets was boring to read about and I didn't get to know the place all that well. This is my first book by Megan Miranda and it was like she didn't know how to create atmosphere or suspense. A very disappointing first impression.

As Langdon and gifted French cryptologist Sophie Neveu sort through the bizarre riddles, they are stunned to discover a trail of clues hidden in the works of Leonardo da Vinci—clues visible for all to see and yet ingeniously disguised by the painter.

Even more startling, the late curator was involved in the Priory of Sion—a secret society whose members included Sir Isaac Newton, Victor Hugo, and Da Vinci—and he guarded a breathtaking historical secret. Unless Langdon and Neveu can decipher the labyrinthine puzzle—while avoiding the faceless adversary who shadows their every move—the explosive, ancient truth will be lost forever.]]>

When she returned, she claims not to remember anything. Elise and the other friends notice she is different. She is normal but there are times she smells and acts weird. What has happened to her?

It is a short book under three hundred pages but it seemed long because the plot starts very slow. For me this felt more like drama than a horror. There are some horror elements towards the end but I never got interested in the plot.

And Elise's background story about her having an affair with a married man felt a bit misplaced because I didn't get to know the other characters that well because of that. And it was too much drama between the women in this friend group.

I'm disappointed since the synopsis intrueged me but I just didn't care much about the plot or the characters.]]>

<![CDATA[Slewfoot: A Tale of Bewitchery]]> 56179372 Set in Colonial New England, Slewfoot is a tale of magic and mystery, of triumph and terror as only dark fantasist Brom can tell it.

A spirited young Englishwoman, Abitha, arrives at a Puritan colony betrothed to a stranger only to become quickly widowed when her husband dies under mysterious circumstances. All alone in this pious and patriarchal society, Abitha fights for what little freedom she can grasp onto, while trying to stay true to herself and her past.

Enter Slewfoot, a powerful spirit of antiquity newly woken ... and trying to find his own role in the world. Healer or destroyer? Protector or predator? But as the shadows walk and villagers start dying, a new rumor is whispered: Witch.

Both Abitha and Slewfoot must swiftly decide who they are, and what they must do to survive in a world intent on hanging any who meddle in the dark arts.

Complete with 8 pages of Brom’s mesmerizing full-color artwork and chapter illustrations throughout, his latest book is sure to delight.]]>

It's more like fantasy and historical fiction than horror. There are some horror parts but as a reader, you have to wait long before anything horrible happens. I like plots that takes time to build up a story but Slewfoot was maybe a bit too slow? It made the dark atmosphere lack a little. The real horror and the dark atmosphere doesn't show up before in the last few pages.

Very well done with the characters that both seemed realistic and some like taken from fairietales but the plot felt a bit too unserious to be a horror, or it wasn't enough of atmosphere. Not a member of the fan club, but almost. Abitha's father sells her to a stranger named Edward. She moves in with him where she doesn't know anyone and his brother is anything but friendly. He involves in their life too much. When her man dies, she wants to take care of the house and the property alone, which the other people in the village doesn't approve. This is Connecticut in 1666. Abitha isn't allowed to do much because she's a woman. And the village is pretty religious as well.

The writing style was too simple and playful and made it hard for me to care about the plot. Too much creative writing in short amount of time.

The Christmas Guest 83814905 An American art student in London is invited to join a classmate for the holidays at Starvewood Hall, her family's Cotswold manor house. But behind the holly and pine boughs, secrets are about to unravel, revealing this seemingly charming English village's grim history.

Ashley Smith, an American art student in London for her junior year, was planning on spending Christmas alone, but a last-minute invitation from fellow student Emma Chapman brings her to Starvewood Hall, country residence of the Chapman family. The Cotswold manor house, festooned in pine boughs and crammed with guests for Christmas week, is a dream come true for Ashley. She is mesmerized by the cozy, firelit house, the large family, and the charming village of Clevemoor, but also by Adam Chapman, Emma's aloof and handsome brother.

But Adam is being investigated by the local police over the recent brutal slaying of a girl from the village, and there is a mysterious stranger who haunts the woodland path between Starvewood Hall and the local pub. Ashley begins to wonder what kind of story she is actually inhabiting. Is she in a grand romance? A gothic tale? Or has she wandered into something far more sinister and terrifying than she'd ever imagined?

Over thirty years later the events of that horrific week are revisited, along with a diary from that time. What began in a small English village in 1989 reaches its ghostly conclusion in modern-day New York, many Christmas seasons later.]]>

In this short novella, there is a mix of present day and diary entries. An American student in London, Ashley is invited to a classmate to celebrate Christmas with them, even though they're not close friends. They don't act like it. Ashley agrees to the invitation and looking forward to spend some days in an English mansion. But it turns out the family has dark secrets. The classmate's brother is person of interest in a murder case and someone is lurking in the woods. Is it safe to celebrate Christmas there at all?

In the Norwegian editions Waldo is named Willy and on each double page there is a new setting and a story and your job is to find him. Sometimes your job is to find other characters as well. The pages are colorful and messy, which is the point to make it hard to find him.

I managed to find him and it wasn't always easy and when you find him it is like he has always been there. Right in front of you. His face and clothes are iconic and familiar. I also like there is a bit of a background story to each setting.

At the back of the book, there is a register of things and other characters you can try to find if you want something more advanced. I love books like this and still do and it would be fun to look in similar books where you have to find a character in a crowd or something. I might have too much free time but I love books like Where's Waldo? and find hidden objects games now and then. Sometimes it is important to stay focused and learn to notice things.]]>

<![CDATA[Mikael Persbrandt (Sånn jeg husker det)]]> 39037047 432 Mikael Persbrandt Ina 4 adult, autobiography
Mikael Persbrandt is a well-known Swedish actor who has contributed in dancing, theater, TV -series and movies. To me, he will always be Gunvald Larsson from the TV -series Beck because it is the role I associate him the most with. Beck isn't the same after he quit the Tv-series.

As a child, he moved around a lot from place to place, and his parents divorced when he was a little boy. Since then, his father has been absent. They have had some contact now and then as grown ups, but they've never had a close father and son relationship. Ever since he was little, Mikael has been afraid to feel like an outsider and for years has been struggling with anxiety which he describes as a freight train that constantly makes him feel restless. He has been feeling that way for many years, having a hard time with belonging somewhere. Early he became interested in theater where he started to feel at home. Since then he has had many roles at theater, Tv-series and movies.

In his autobiography, we get to know his good and bad sides, not only through his career but also on a private level. He describes how fame can harm someone, how he was stalked by the press everywhere he went, who were spreading true and false rumours about his personal life. Everyone wanted a piece of him at all cost. He also talks about his relationships, both friendship and love, including the relationship with actress Maria Bonnevie. A relationship that lasted in seven years. He talks about how he constantly disappointed her and other women he was in relationship with because he was a man driven by jealousy, drugs and alcoholism. He has also been struggling with moments of depression. He also tells openly about his criminal actions from a young age.

Persbrandt admits his own faults and problems without giving away explanation or come up with excuses. He confesses the mistakes he has done like a man. He says this is how things were back then and how things are now. He doesn't hide his faults and mistakes. He writes about them and shares them with us.

He also reveals how he met the great love of his life, Sanna Lundell, who is the daughter of Ulf Lundell, and how he has tried to calm down his life as a family man. He talks about how he has failed over and over again and how he constantly tries tu pull himself together. He has a desire to be a better father than his own father was, and Mikael Persbrandt tries and claims he has become better at finding inner piece.

This autobiography offers a lot of sarcasm, self-esteem, self-examination, and it's an autobiography that doesn't hide anything away. People are familiar with several sides of Persbrandt, both privately and through his professional life. He was also some sort of a badass but with time and through several mistakes, he manages to change himself. This is a book about overcoming inner demons. He has been through a lot and never gave up, although it often felt like he had. It is a success in itself. This is a good, warm and funny autobiography about his mistakes, shortcomings and strong willpower. Persbrandt is a proof that no matter how many mistakes he has made over the years, it went well for him in the end. It's about holding on until the end, even when it feels like the bottom is reached. This is a strong and thought-provoking autobiography, and very entertaining. He is full of sarcasm and irony. Love it!]]>

Hvorfor og hvordan havner ungdom her?

Last Call 73056080 220 Sean Costello 1989351425 Ina 3
Although it is not extreme horror it is horror with slasher aspect and very graphic. So very close to being extreme.

Last Call is about Trish who's only been living with her mom and her mom rarely wants to talk about Trish's dad. A friend of Trish calls when a new patient has shown up at the hospital where he works. He sees a tattoo that is familiar to her dad's and gives her a call about it. Trish drives to Toronto to see if the guy is her dad or not.

There's also another character calling himself Bobcat after being inspired of the animal that often visits his property. But the media calls the guy the Dentist since he takes the teeth from the victims as souvernirs. After finding out that the patient at the hospital is Trish's father, she travels often to Toronto to get to know him better. He has spent a lot of years as homeless and as an alcoholic. But is it safe for Trish to travel a lot since there is a serial killer in the area?

Last Call is a fun and short read. Trish seemed a bit childish and naive and her father's stories from his past seemed a bit misplaced and ruined the pace. And I don't need instalove in horror which happened between Trish and some guy from her past. It ruined the amosphere a little. But besides that it was a fun serial killer horror read and I wouldn't mind it to be darker. And I want to check out more books by this author.]]>

A collection of poems that feels more like quotes or so called "life lessons". Almost like these poems people writes sometimes on social media or having on their walls at home as decorations. Very simplistic and with few lines.

Some of them were about the special someone, love, dark times and just being a human being. Won't recommend this to everyone since the poems are very simple and not very thought-provoking. Very kind two stars.

But do understand the frustration and the fear of seeing someone close fighting cancer. We don't know the name, age or the gender of the main character but we get to know it is someone young who is spending time at the hospital with other kids who's also struggling with cancer.

The bond between the patiens and the parents is strong and warm. They have deep conversations and even though the chapters are very short, the author manage to tell a lot.

The subject is dark and sad, but the book didn't manage to play with my feelings since the characters isn't real. And I prefer to read about someone with a name instead of nameless main characters.

The book is around 30 pages long and the songs are very short. It seems like the book is focusing more on the illustrations than the texts. The illustrations wasn't all that great either. Very simple and colorful. The bad thing about the book is that the texts doesn't have any notes. It makes it difficult for people to sing if they are not familiar with the songs.

Wish I could say something positive about "Babysang" but there are better books for children in this genre than this one. And it is probably funnier to read this book for people who has kids or for people working with kids.]]>

A book with rhymes and songs for kids to learn. The most familiar of them must be Itsy Bitsy Spider. Rest of the rhymes and songs was kind of unfamiliar to me. I knew of maybe four or five from this collection. And believe me. My parents tried to sing to me and with me with the help of similar books like this one but I was never into it. I rather wanted them to read something to me or read by myself.

Men Vilde blir forelska i Lars.

<![CDATA[Shark: Why We Need to Save the World’s Most Misunderstood Predator]]> 60567956 From shark attack survivor to the shark’s biggest advocate, Paul de Gelder tells us just why these majestic diverse animals need our help as much as we need them.

We have a perennial fascination with sharks. A marvel of the sea, sharks evolved over 450 million years into more than 500 species, from the bioluminescent kitefin to the tiny dwarf lantern shark, the sociable lemon shark to the blue shark, which can birth up to 100 pups in one litter. Bringing balance to the ocean’s ecosystem, our planet is at serious risk when these amazing creatures are threatened.

Paul de Gelder, who lost two limbs in a shark attack during a mission as an elite Australian navy clearance diver, spent time as part of his recovery learning all about sharks. He became so obsessed that, despite what happened to him, he is now an expert and has dedicated his life to helping save them. Shark is his love-letter to these unfairly vilified animals, and his warning to the world about what will happen if we don’t look out for them.]]>

With warmth, humor and a serious tone, he shares his perspective about sharks. That people should respect them. Sharks rarely eat humans. It mostly happens because of a mistake. And it is we who is entering their home and not the other way around. Sharks are scary but often misunderstood. And it is important to follow some rules before taking a swim.

It was interesting to know about people cutting of their fin to make soup of it. Because in some cultures, people thinks that soup is healthy and can heal many things. Which is cruel and weird.

It was fascinating to know about all different kind of sharks, his shark attack and his love for the animals. It is easy to tell that he is true about his interest in sharks and glad to see people protecting animals as best they can.]]>

Trigger Warning 201789033

Some things that Kobe was going through was confusing and a little boring. He lies because it brightens his days and sometimes it makes his Mom happy too. It was easy to understand that part but except for that, "Løgner som lyser" was too whimsical for me. I'm not into that or magic realism. It makes it hard for me to imagine what's going on in the book, and felt left out most of the time. It was also hard to concentrate since most characters had weird names.

This cartoonish book leaves hints for each letter on the pages through the drawings and limited text. At the back of the book, there's a register for the right word and what the word means.

Even though "Store ord" is for kids and people in their early teen years, some of the words are difficult, especially for kids. So reading this with someone else, would be more helpful for them.

The drawing style is good but not my style. They're not that inspiring even though the illustrator is good at it. And reading this book alone was a bit sad and tame. It would be funnier to read it with someone else and make the reading like a guessing game.]]>

The Hunger 40554110
After having travelled west for weeks, the party of pioneers comes to a crossroads. It is time for their leader, George Donner, to make a choice. They face two diverging paths which lead to the same destination. One is well-documented the other untested, but rumoured to be shorter.

Donner’s decision will shape the lives of everyone travelling with him. The searing heat of the desert gives way to biting winds and a bitter cold that freezes the cattle where they stand. Driven to the brink of madness, the ill-fated group struggles to survive and minor disagreements turn into violent confrontations. Then the children begin to disappear. As the survivors turn against each other, a few begin to realise that the threat they face reaches beyond the fury of the natural elements, to something more primal and far more deadly.

Based on the true story of The Donner Party, The Hunger is an eerie, shiver-inducing exploration of human nature, pushed to its breaking point.]]>

The Hunger is loosely based on the Donner Party. The book begins in 1846 and a group of people travels from Illinois to California. Some joins the group because of troubles they need to get away from and some wants to get away in hopes for a better life. When someone discovers they are running out of food, not many takes it seriously. And what are the creatures lurking nearby? Are they creatures who loves human flesh or something else?

This s a big book. Almost 500 pages long. I don't mind a slow build up to feel the atmosphere but the first two hundred pages was a lot about love, jealousy and some fighting between the men. A lot of drama about who is taking the lead. It felt more like drama than a horror at times.

If the tension and the suspense was like the last 80 pages, I would like the book even better. The aspect of historical fiction and horror was a bit uneven. But I liked the creatures that was mysterious and fun to read about.

A good book that was ruined with a bit too much drama and the ending wasn't so impressing either. It was rushed and it killed the atmosphere too soon. But did enjoy Katsu's note at the end about how it is like to write historical fiction. It kind of made up for the ending.]]>

Estragon is a rat. He thinks his life is about to end when he falls down with a hot air balloon. But luckily, he is saved by a submarine and the only one guy in it is Klepto. Klepto shows him around and it turns out that inside of the submarine, there is a mall. It got everything. Klepto has it all, except for friends. Is it that's why he feels a dark and empty hole inside of him? Estragon promise him to find friends. But can Klepto trust him? Slowly Klepto is turning himself into a rat too.

This is a mix of adventure, humor and fable. And the series is probably a bit darker than the usual children's literature since it is inspired by the seven deadly sins. The contrasts between the darkness and humor goes well, and the illustrations by John Kenn Mortensen is atmospheric. They lift up the story in a good way.

Hjertepromenaden 220670137

This crime novel takes place in Trondheim, Norway, where a serial killer (not a real one, of course), is on a killing spree. One morning, the people wakes up to the horrible news of six people have been killed. Is it a serial killer or terror? What is the motive?

Homicide detective Theodor Krogh is gay and single. He doesn't have much family around except his sister and her two kids. Most of the time he is alone or at work. Nothing feels the same again when there's a serial killer in the city.

Hjertepromenaden is a debut book and it is kind of easy to tell because of the writing style. Some words are repeated often and makes it sound a bit comical. But it is not a bad book. Even though it was a typical serial killer crime novel, it was nice to read the perspective from the victims, the serial killer and Theodor Krogh. It was also nice to read about a city I am familiar with since Trondheim is the city closest to me. Other times when I read about different places, it is hard to imagine it.

Hjertepromenaden is a fun read. The ending was a bit long and some of the characters felt a bit stiff, and I prefer the crime novels that is a bit darker, but it was worth reading.]]>

It is about Mark and Steph who is shaken after a home invasion and it feels like they can't relax again. They also have their daughter Hayden to think about. A friend of them talks about house swapping and making it as a vacation. Steph goes online and finds an apartment in Paris. Her parents take care of their daughter while Steph and Mark travels from Cape Town to Paris. The apartment looks nothing like it is described. It is messy and dirty. They find strange things. They also find out that the apartment owners hasn't arrived in Cape Town to live in their house. They are also hard to reach. After an incident, Steph and Mark leave and travel back to Cape Town. At home, they sense things has been moved around and it doesn't feel like home anymore. What have they brought from Paris? A ghost? Witchcraft? Or something more sinister? Mark and Steph also seem to be more annoyed with each other.

The chapters are from Mark and Steph's perspective. Both seem to be very whiny and annoyed about everything, especially Steph. Being inside their heads was challenging.

Some parts of the book was exciting but it took time before anything happened. It is not really a haunted house story but more like people feeling like they are being haunted or messed with.

Not a new favorite because the book was more surreal and felt more like a feverdream than a horror. Little disappointed because of that.]]>

“Passionate, overwhelming, a classic thriller with a rock rhythm. Ernesto Gastaldi, screenwriter of So Sweet So Perverse

"I read this story with ever-increasing interest. The dynamics and tension felt reminiscent of my thriller films from the 70s and 80s, which have been appreciated by many American directors such as Quentin Tarantino. It would make a great film for lovers of the genre. Ottimo intrigo!" Sergio Martino, director of All the Colors of the Dark and Torso

"Intricately plotted in the classic giallo style, with plot twists and murders galore. John Everson has written a thriller that is sure to appeal to devotees of lurid Italian mystery thrillers." Troy Howarth, author of So Deadly, So 50 Years of Italian Giallo Films

Somebody is murdering the Songbirds

A modern Giallo, Everson's homage to the stylish Italian mystery thrillers. When Eve Springer arrives in Belgium to study with the world-famous Prof. Ernest Von Klein at The Eyrie, an exclusive music conservatory, it’s the fulfillment of a lifelong dream. But that dream is soon to become a nightmare.

When the star of the school’s piano program is strangled with a piano wire, the only clue to the killer is a grainy picture of the victim during her final moments, mouth wide and screaming, posted on the girl’s own Facebook account, alongside a classic music video. What does it mean? Eve soon finds herself taking the girl’s place as the enclave’s star pupil, in line for a coveted scholarship and a new member of the famed jazz combo, the Songbirds.

When Eve is drugged and another Songbird murdered at a campus party, she suddenly finds herself on the list of suspects. Another picture is posted online of the victim in her final moments, and this time, Eve is sure the hands around the girl’s throat are hers! Could she have killed the girl while under the influence of whatever someone had slipped in her drink? The police and others at the Eyrie are suspicious; the murders began when she arrived. Her new boyfriend Richard insists that she could not be the killer. But who would want the Songbirds dead? One of the other Songbirds, like Gianna, the snarky sax player who seems to hate everyone? Or Philip, the creepy building caretaker and occasional night watchman? Or could it be Prof. Von Klein himself, who seems very handy with a camera and has a secret locked room behind his office where the light always seems to be on after dark?

Whoever it is, Eve knows she needs to figure it out. Because when a dead canary is left as a bloody message on the keys of her piano, she knows her own life may be in deadly danger.

Even though the ending was kind of predictable and a bit stupid, it didn't ruined the rest of the plot. I also didn't care about the instalove that came out of the blue. It just felt misplaced. There is a challenge that involves the house and when you have done it, you send the challenge to someone else. Evy does the challenge in hopes to impress a guy she has a crush on. She is tired of being shy and quiet. She finds something in the house. A perfume or something similar. She wears it. While wearing it, people seems to notice her, like her and gives her compliments. After a rollercoaster ride she befriends Bastian which she has never seen before. The strange thing about the rollercoaster, is that it felt like the time, air and everything changed. It seems like she is the only one who can see Bastian after the ride. She knows he is real but other people thinks he is an imaginery friend or something. But when a boy goes missing, they ask Valkyrie for help.

This is a middle grade horror so I know I'm too old to read it. Norwegian publishers don't take horror serious. When they publish horror, it is mostly for young readers. I read middle grade and ya books sometimes because of curiousity and I like to see what is being published for every age group.

Wish I liked this book since the concept sounded interesting but this was a bit too childish and too obvious for me. I liked some of the atmosphere. But I was struggling to feel invested in the story. I read "Ulv ulv" by the same author a while back, which is a thriller for teenagers. I liked that one a little better. But I'm sure "ø-Dz-岹Ա" will be a hit during the Halloween season for kids who wants to try to read something scary.]]>

Valkyrie is turning 11 and she is not having a great day. Her parents owns this amusement park and is crazy busy because of it. That's why Valkyrie hates the amusement park. She spends the birthday alone because her parents has forgotten about it. She is also friendless. People only wants to be nice to her because they know her parents owns the amusement park, probably hoping for some free rides.

<![CDATA[The Haunting of Alma Fielding: A True Ghost Story]]> 59113954
Nandor Fodor a Jewish-Hungarian refugee and chief ghost hunter for the International Institute for Psychical research begins to investigate. In doing so he discovers a different and darker type of haunting: trauma, alienation, loss and the foreshadowing of a nation's worst fears. As the spectre of Fascism lengthens over Europe, and as Fodor's obsession with the case deepens, Alma becomes ever more disturbed.

With rigour, daring and insight, the award-winning pioneer of historical narrative non-fiction Kate Summerscale shadows Fodor's enquiry, delving into long-hidden archives to find the human story behind a very modern haunting.]]>

In this book it is about a family in Croydon, England that experienced creepy stuff in 1938. They saw things moving witouth anyone touching it. It is not just them who saw it but their guests too.

Nandor Fodor, a psychoanalyst spent four months with the family. He didn't exactly believe in ghosts. He kind of looked down on mediums and was very strict and controversial to avoid fraud. He could also be strict with Alma to make sure she wasn't just joking. It turns out that she has had weird experiences earlier in life. As mentioned, Nandor didn't believe in ghost but that maybe weird things could happen due to inner conflicts or something like that.

This book is not much about the hauntings but about Alma Fielding, Nandor Fodor and other people that was around and involved with the case. So it is not much about the supernatural. Did the things happen to her due to inner conflicts, nervousness due to the WW2 that was building up or was it just a hoax?

I'd rather want to write about the end results and discuss it but can't because of spoilers. It took an interesting turn. Summerscale talked with Nandor Fodor's daughter and other relatives of the people who was involved with the case. She has done a lot of research. I would like the book better if the writing style wasn't so dry. It was a struggle to get through in some parts and for some reason, I didn't like Alma Fielding that much.]]>

I Will Find You 61392437 David and Cheryl Burroughs are living the dream - married, a beautiful house in the suburbs, a three year old son named Matthew - when tragedy strikes one night in the worst possible way.

David awakes to find himself covered in blood, but not his own - his son's. And while he knows he did not murder his son, the overwhelming evidence against him puts him behind bars indefinitely.

Five years into his imprisonment, Cheryl's sister arrives - and drops a bombshell.

She's come with a photograph that a friend took on vacation at a theme park. The boy in the background seems familiar - and even though David realizes it can't be, he knows it is. It's Matthew, and he's still alive.

David plans a harrowing escape from prison, determined to do what seems impossible - save his son, clear his own name, and discover the real story of what happened that devastating night.]]>

Coben also once said that everytime he publish a book, he is in the middle of another one. It is not hard to believe since he is very productive.

I Will Find You is about David who is in prison. He is found guilty for killing his soon while sleepwalking. David knows he didn't do it but doesn't stand up for himself. He also doesn't want visitors. But one day the sister of his ex-wife shows up and shows him a picture. The picture is of someone who looks like his son with the exact same birthmark. Is the picture real or fake? David needs to do research but he can't do it from the prison. He has to escape to find the truth.

This is a standalone and I usually like his standalones better than his series. But there are some familiar names mentioned in the book, like Win from the Myron Bolitar and the Win series and Hester from the Wilde series. I Will Find You is not Coben's strongest book but still entertaining and full of action. Not a fan of his thoughts about lost love that is often brought up in his books but besides that, the book was engaging and fun. I really like Coben's dry humor that is often being used in his books.

Brenner hull i kinnet mitt. Vil han bite igjen nå? Bite bort biten. Den siste. Meg. Nei?

"Du kan kalle meg Jan" is a psychological thriller for adults. It is about Ida who is a psychiatric nurse and works with young people who struggle with mental illness. Ida has her own secret. She vanished as a kid and she was gone for two years before she came back. After that, Ida and her mom has lived a secret life so that the man who took Ida, won't find her again. But when a former patient vanishes, Ida fears that the same man has taken her.

I think it is great that mental illness is brought up in books and movies but recently it has been so much of it, that I think I need a break from the subject. I need something different. That's one of the reasons I didn't like the book much and I am not a fan when things are written like a fever dream or the feeling of being stuck in the head of the main character.

The book had a lot of interesting aspects but I found Ida to be a bit annoying in the long run and I wasn't fully engaged in the plot. But I will read more books by the author because her writing style is very rough and different.]]>

As they track their attackers across the length and breadth of Britain, assailed by forces of darkness both human and supernatural, Conan Doyle and Sparks unmask a terrifying conspiracy that threatens not only the Crown but the very fabric of modern civilization. Their only clue: a list of seven names, the leaders of the Brotherhood.

Skeptical by nature and profession, Doyle labors to prove that the events he has witnessed - horrifying visions, zombies, ghouls, molecular alteration - are elaborate ruses with logical explanations. But if so, why? Simply because Doyle’s anti-occultist writings, never even published, have inadvertently exposed the Brotherhood’s intentions? Who is the elusive, seemingly superhuman mastermind behind the Seven? Most important, as Doyle continues to put his life in the hands of Jack Sparks, the question persists: Can Sparks be trusted?]]>

The friendship between Rydiger and Anton is weird and charming. They are the best of friends and sometimes Anton is scared of Rydiger. Especially the times he gets reminded of that Rydiger is a vampire and he knows everything about vampires. And they argue sometimes. Rydiger's family members is also interesting to get to know even though they are not a big part of the book. I also enjoyed the atmospheric illusrtrations without colors.

Even though this book was published years ago, it didn't feel dated. The writing style feels neutral and timeless and the mix of darkness and humor is great. After the accident, Henry has become more sensitive and telepathic. He can read people's mind and sense how they feel. He soon finds a connection with a strange connection nearby. Is it safe for them to be there?

This is my first book by Fracassi and even though some parts are overexplained, I liked the man vs. man and man vs. nature contrast. I didn't mind the creature feature part. What I didn't like was the background stories about the kidnappers. I would prefer to know less about them to make them more mysterious and scarier.

"Den siste festen" is the second book in the Irma Dahl series. Irma is divorced and has two sons with her ex-husband. Many people thinks she is a bit weird and scary. She hardly shows emotions and is very direct when she speaks. And she runs her own funeral home. Instead of feeling sadness for the people who has passed away, she wants to throw a party to celebrate their lives. An alternative funeral home. She also doesn't back off when her oldest son has been robbed. Someone has stolen his cell phone. She can't just sit and don't do anything about it ...

This is fiction with some humor. Humor in books and movies is hard 'cause I rarely laugh. I liked some of the humor but not the sex scenes with Irma and some guy. I didn't care much about the bond between them.

Except from that and some writing mistakes here and there, it was a good sequel. Even though I'm not a fan of Irma, I'd like to know what she will do next.]]>

I got a copy from the author, in exchange for an honest review. Kristine S. Henningsen used to publish books with the help from different publishers before, but now she is a self-published author.

Even though I'm not a fan of Irma, I'd like to know what she will do next.

All the Flowers in Paris 42859805
When Caroline wakes up in a Paris hospital with no memory of her past, she's confused to learn that she's lived a sad, reclusive life for years in a sprawling apartment on the Seine. Slowly regaining vague memories of a man and young child, she vows to piece her life back together--though she can't help but feel she may be in danger. A budding friendship with the chef of a charming nearby restaurant takes her mind off of her foggy past, as does a startling mystery from decades prior...

In Nazi-occupied Paris, young widow Celine lives a quiet life with her father, the local florist, and her daughter, Cosi. When a ruthless German officer discovers the family's Jewish ancestry, he blackmails Celine, forcing her to become his mistress in exchange for the others' safety. The trio plans an escape, but their mission goes horribly awry and Celine's beloved father and daughter are sent away to a cruel fate. Initially distraught, Celine fears the worst. Yet she soon discovers that Cosi has snuck away and followed her into captivity. More motivated than ever, Celine must now fight to hide and protect the person she loves most.

Parallel timelines intersect when Caroline discovers Celine's diary tucked away in a closet, and it is revealed that the walls of her apartment harbor dark secrets. With the help of a local student from the Sorbonne, she realizes that she may have more in common with Celine than she could ever imagine.]]>

All the Flowers in Paris is about two women from different timelines. Caroline is from our time. She is American and she has moved to Paris to start a new life. She gets involved in an accident and she wakes up with memory loss. The other woman we read about is Celine during WW2. She lives with her dad and her daughter Cosette. The fear is building up as the war is getting worse. They plan to escape but something happens and Celine is forced to live with a German officer against her will. The perspectives goes back and forth between these two women. Do they have something in common or is this just a random story?

This book reminded me slightly about Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay which was just ok. I felt the same with All the Flowers in Paris. The book is ok but I would like it better without all the sidestories and if the language was less fluffy. I would also like it more without some of the loveaspects. Because of that, it was kind of hard to take the book seriously.]]>

The author has always wanted to live in Paris but haven't been able to since it is too expensive. So this book is sort of a love letter to Paris.

Grey Dog 198385737
The year is 1901, and Ada Byrd spinster, schoolmarm, amateur naturalist accepts a teaching post in isolated Lowry Bridge, grateful for the chance to re-establish herself where no one knows her secrets. She develops friendships with her neighbors, explores the woods with her students, and begins to see a future in this tiny farming community. Her past riddled with grief and shame has never seemed so far away.

But then, Ada begins to witness strange and grisly a swarm of dying crickets, a self-mutilating rabbit, a malformed faun. She soon believes that something ancient and beastly which she calls the grey dog is behind these visceral offerings, which both beckon and repel her. As her confusion deepens, her grip on what is real, what is delusion, and what is traumatic memory begins to fail. Ada takes on the wildness of the woods, and begins to wonder which is more dangerous: the grey dog, or herself.]]>

Kusinen 170256806

Fanny is forty, her boyfriend breaks up with her and her job let her go. During a family reunion she runs into Ulrika, her cousin. They used to be close but lost touch over the years. Ulrika offers Fanny to come and live with her and Peder, her husband for the summer. While being there, Fanny sees things about Ulrika she doesn't like and something happens that change the bond between them. Will they ever trust each other again?

"Kusinen" is a dark and enjoyable thriller. Ekman is good at describing edgy characters. The ending was a bit predictable and a let down but it was still a dark and entertaining read. Even though I liked his last book "De kapable" better, I want to read more books by Ekman. It'll be fun to see what more he'll come up with.]]>
