Cela pourrait être drôle, si ce n’était une maladie mentale due à l’âge, et surtout si cette femme si confuse n’était pas la romancière Benoîte Groult, la mère de l’auteure de ce livre d’une force rare. Benoîte Groult, luttant, jouant avec sa propre fin, mais refusant avec rage de céder à la fatalité et à la vieillesse, elle qui a été une militante de l’association « Pour le droit de mourir dans la dignité  ». Voici la femme intime, plus que la femme publique, ici telle qu’on ne la connaît pas, et qui écrivait : « Dans la vie, deux mondes se côtoient : celui des gens qui vont vivre et celui des gens qui vont mourir. Ils se croisent sans se voir. »

Benoîte s’éteint en juin 2016 à Hyères, à 96 ans. Écrivaine comblée, mère et grand-mère heureuse, femme de combats remportés. Mais ce que ce livre raconte, ce n’est pas juste le deuil hélas ! prévisible d’une mère admirée et aimée, mais un double deuil : voici le terrible sens du titre, La mère morte. « Maman, mon dernier rempart contre la mort. Bientôt, ce sera moi le rempart pour ma fille ».

Le 1er avril 2016, la fille de Blandine de Caunes, Violette, 36 ans, meurt dans un banal accident de voiture, laissant orpheline sa fille Zélie. L’ordre du monde est renversé : Benoîte s’accroche à la vie, Blandine sombre, Violette n’est plus.

De Benoîte Groult, sa fille a hérité l’humour et la force vitale. Ce livre n’est pas triste, au contraire. Защото е картина на вековната ни участ. Отдавна в главата ми се въртят идеи, които искам да събера в нова книга, и тази сутрин изведнъж ми просветна. А днес е 9 август 2011. „Нашат�� Via Dolorosa��. Нашият път на болката. Христос е влачил тежкия кръст по стръмнината към Голгота, но вижте как са нарекли пътя, по който четиринайсет пъти е спирал, понякога и падал от изтощение. Не път на страданието, не път на разпятието, даже не и път на възкресението. А път на болката. Защото без болка никой живот не може да мине. Защото болката може да е физическа, но може и да е душевна. Тя може да се търпи с години, ала може и да е непоносима. Болката до такава степен може да стане част от ежедневието (на човека, на обществото, а и на нацията), че да престанем да я забелязваме. Тоест болката може да е и много коварна. Внезапно идва ден, когато откриваш, че е оставила неизлечими последици.

Нека хвърлим поглед върху живота ни през вековете. Така, надявам се, ще разберете защо го наричам път на болката. Да тръгнем от ХІV век, от времето, когато Балканският полуостров е завоюван от турците (по-дълбоката ни древност е прекалено далеч в миналото). Но от ХІV век до наши дни, това са 7 века. 700 години, нали? Разбира се, и други нации имат зад гърба си история от 700 години, някои и повече. Но от нашата история човек научава нещо, което сигурно е уникално. Става въпрос за нещо действително страшно. Именно страшно, за друга по-подходяща дума не се сещам. Затова ви моля вас, евентуалните ми читатели, спрете, вдигнете очи от текста и за миг се замислете. В цялата тая 700-годишна история на нашата нация има само 1 (словом едно) национално усилие, което, от гледна точка на нашия (българския) интерес, да е завършило с успех. Само едно!!! Кое ли? Ами, разбира се, че съединението на Княжество България с Източна Румелия на 6 септември 1885 г. и последвалата героична война със Сърбия. Това е то, действително единственото национално по мащаб усилие, завършило с успех. Съединението не е било анулирано от външни сили, войските на крал Милан са били разгромени от нашата едва прохождаща армия. Това, което сме искали, сме го постигнали. Победата ни е голяма и трайна.

Оттогава, та чак до днес, пътят ни е само Dolorosa. Балканската война? Да, национално усилие е била, но болката е жестока, защото раната от проваленото политическо ръководство е била допълнително посипана с лютия пипер на Букурещкия договор от 1913 г., откъснал живи парчета месо от тялото на родината. Първата световна? Също провалено от некадърна дипломация национално усилие. Втора поред катастрофа. А следващата световна война? Трета катастрофа. Най-тежката национална болка и пак в резултат на хронически некадърно политическо ръководство. Ами комунистическият експеримент, наречен народна република? Тук вече нашата Via Dolorosa е в най-нетърпимия си и болезнен етап. Никакво национално усилие, затова пък апотеоз на простотията и политическия слугинаж, неудържимо плъзгане надолу, държавата повлечена от оглупяването на „големи�� брат��. За да дойдем накрая до водораздела на 1989 г. и болката от изманипулирания „преход��.

Ето я, това е тя, нашата история през седемте века след падането ни под турско робство през ХІV век. Седемстотин години подчиненост, насилие и илюзии. Седемстотин години тъмнина, двуличие, лъжи и нагаждане. Седемстотин години безсмислени жертви. И болка. Нашата Via Dolorosa.

Е, как искате с такова наследство, с такава седемстотингодишна обреченост да се обичаме един друг, да обичаме враговете си, да не лъжем и да не крадем, да милеем за държавата си? Ами че когато Колумб е откривал Америка, когато Микеланжело или Леонардо да Винчи са творили шедьоврите си, когато по-късно на орган са били изпълнявани токатите и фугите на Бах, а симфонични оркестри са свирили симфониите на Моцарт, Бетховен, Шуберт или Брамс, изобщо когато християнският свят е пробивал мракобесието на Средновековието и догматизма, какво е било тогава по нашите земи? Мрак и невежество. Това е било. Население с „преклонена главичка��, забравило своя род и корените си, население неграмотно, просто и научило се да оцелява като дивите животни. Затова е и досега толкова силна болката от падението ни през годините на съветския комунизъм, срамът ни от унизителното покорство пред господаря, когато с милиция ни принуждаваха да забравим, че сме българи. И когато „широките народни маси�� май наистина бяха забравили кои са. Патриотизмът беше мръсна дума, цял един Централен комитет на БКП в състав около 160 човека, все българи (точната бройка не я знам, но има ли значение!), гласува да подарим независимостта и националния си суверенитет на болшевишката „империя на злото�� �� по думите на президента Роналд Рейгън, който впрочем лично й видя сметката, просто като я принуди да участва в непосилно за възможностите й състезание. Нито една ръка „против��, даже не и „въздържал се�� не е била вдигната на това фамозно заседание на ЦК. Нито една!! Уникално като прецедент предателство, чудовищна държавна измяна, останала обаче неосъществена не защото предателите са се осъзнали и отказали, а защото руснаците не са посмели да ни анексират. Неосъществена държавна измяна, да, ала извършена. Факт от нашата история. Е, и какво? Наказани ли бяха изменниците? Поне политическата партия, към която те до един принад-лежаха, да беше се извинила. Но не. Няма съжаление, няма извинение. Нито за предателството, нито за екзекуциите без съд и присъда след 9 септември ��44-та.

Това сме ние. При нас минават неща, каквито приникакви други общества с претенции за културност няма никога да минат. Обременен с наслоения е нашият манталитет, само у нас е възможно един Левски да бъде конвоиран от някакви си 3��4 заптиета, пеша,
през зимата, през гори и дерета и да не се съберат поне също 3��4 момчета, които да направят засада и да освободят затворника. Да, ама пръста не са си мръднали. За да не пострадат те. Защото туй наше население от времето на недоносеното „въстание��, наречено априлско, е гледало на всеки, който се е бунтувал срещу робството, като на опасен за спокойствието им елемент. Затуй с чиста съвест са бързали да го предадат и като Пилат Понтийски да си измият после ръцете. Такава ни е съдбата �� да догонваме. Но с болка, защото ние лесен път не познаваме. Три (или май са четири) национални катастрофи!!! Via Dolorosa.

Иска ми се с тази книга да разкажа малко по-подробно за някои от нещата, които ни са се случили или сами сме си изработили. Ясно е, че когато става дума за по-далечното минало, ще ползвам прочетени или чути свидетелства, но когато говоря за събития от най-ново време (а това значи през последните седемдесет и кусур години), ще е вече от позицията на съвременник. Убеден съм, че не са много тези, които като мен са имали възможността да наблюдават (професионално през последните 50 години) ставащо у нас и по света.

Тук ще завърша с едно малко признание. Много ми се иска и ще смятам, че поне малко съм допринесъл запомъдряването на подрастващите, ако от тук прочетеното те, тия наши млади, дето са с най-големите претенции, осъзнаят, че са благословени късметлии. Защото провидението ги е пратило на този свят в днешните именно времена, може би наистина усилни, ала страшно интересни. И второ, защото свободата, която сега имат и на която сега се радват, много лесно можеше и да я нямат.
