This revelation sets Leslie on a transformative journey to mend her relationship with food, her body, and the only man she's ever loved.

Chef Risto is a bigger than life personality who unapologetically lives life to the fullest. With his restaurant thriving and his culinary star rising, Risto has everything he’s ever wanted—except Leslie. Their past is a tangled web of unspoken feelings and unmet expectations. He dreams of her every night. But how can they build a future together when Leslie can't fully support his dreams?

When Leslie's cupid-of-an-aunt insists she fill-in for her at Risto's restaurant, their undeniable chemistry reignites. But can it overcome their complicated history?
Meanwhile, tensions rise as Leslie's investigation threatens her TV career. It forces her into an impossible choice: achieve stardom while living a lie, or embrace the truth for a second chance at true love?

In this compelling tale of self-discovery and romance, Leslie must navigate a world that demands she conform, while finding the courage to be true to herself and live her best life.]]>

What We Give Away: A Delicious Standalone Novel is the fourth book in the Bold Journeys series. This is my first time reading something by this author and I was not disappointed. The story focuses on Leslie, an award-winning journalist and Chef Risto, owner of his own restaurant and chef extraordinaire. The two find themselves working together after having been apart after a failed relationship. Will the two of them find each other this time around?

Except the realtor turns out to be the quiet, captivating single mom of a boy I mentor on a youth hockey league. I should keep things strictly business, but she knocks me off my skates with those pencil skirts and mom voice.

Molly insists she’s too old for me, and I say opposites attract. As I fight for my spot on the ice and battle some personal demons, she’s juggling an unpredicable pre-teen, an ex who belongs in the penalty box, and a case of insomnia that has me calling new plays between the sheets.

If I push too hard, I know she’ll run. But there’s no way I’m throwing in the towel–not when I’ve realized her heart is the only thing worth fighting for.]]>

When she is trying to hire musicians for the party she finds out that one has been murdered. Now that she is on the case with her colleagues things get complex and twisted. This series is always a fun read and takes you into ancient Egypt. The details and descriptions are always engaging and paint a vivid picture for the reader. I enjoy the storytelling as well. Neferet is smart and interesting. The story takes the characters into a seedy underworld to solve the murder. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

Can these two young men venerate love alongside liturgy? Or will they be cast out?

A religious yet irreverent story awaits.

NB This is a work of fiction about what may have been, told in first person POV; a positive, realistic LGBTQ+ story which probably happened many times over and deserves now to be shared in the light with love.

Love Habit: A Historical Tudor Romance About Christian Monks is a part of the Love Through The Ages series. Each book in the series is a standalone historical romance. I enjoy books by this author due to their story telling and historical details. I wasn't sure if this book would be my type of thing, but I found the storytelling drew me in. Set during the 15th century in England we are put into a Benediction Monastery to learn of Brothers Paul and Luke. The story focuses on the difficulties encountered by those who have sworn to celibacy, but later finding their person. It is an interesting look at what might have happened during those times and how two men found romance. I appreciate the author sets the reader's expectations with a few pages of explanation at the beginning of the book. There were some areas I skimmed, but overall I enjoyed the story.

Rachel was finally happy. She had a place to call home, amazing friends, and a successful bakery. Then her past found her. Now Hunter Campbell was in her kitchen, acting like a caveman. After months of only grunting at her, one little incident, and he has the audacity to tell her she’s not allowed out without him. She couldn’t decide what terrified her more about her new bodyguard the giant hulk scaring off her customers, or the fire in her belly that made her heart race every time he was near.

Local firefighter Hunter was a man of few words. But if ever there was a time to talk, it was now. Rachel was in danger and there was no way he was going to let anything happen to his stubborn little fairy. It didn’t matter that he’d spent months keeping his distance. Or that she had the power to shatter his heart and then stab him to death with the shards. This was happening. She could bang as many baking pans as she liked. He wasn’t going anywhere. She was stuck with him.

Fighting fires was nothing new to Rachel or Hunter, but surrendering to the heat of the flames was a battle neither of them were prepared for.

Darby works in a small town cafe and takes business classes in her free time.

Not because she wants to.

Because she has to.

Over a year ago, her dreams, and her confidence, were crushed to meringue powder by a well-known food critic who wrote a scathing review about her restaurant. Because of him, everything fell apart and Darby had to return to her hometown to pick up all the crumbs and try to make something edible.

It just feels so dang hard to start over.

In the meantime, she'd love it if she could catch the eye of the hottie at the cafe who comes in every day at the same time for breakfast. If she can work up the courage to talk to him, that just might mean she can work up the courage to try again with her restaurant.

Because more than anything she wants to show that stupid Jackson Wilcox that he was wrong about her.]]>

Also, the summary mentions that the book will make you hungry. It is no lie because they give plenty of recipes at the end for you to try on your own. - Scare Queen: A Woman’s Plight for Youth
- Essentially Broken: A Nurse’s Curse
- No Pest Pesticide: Chemical Damage to Nature
- Mother Knows Best: A Halloween Outing Gone Wrong.
- Respect- An Angel’s Fall From Heaven.
- When Leaves Fall (Bonus Story): An Emotional Journey of Cruelty
The topics of the stories range from tales of vanity to tales of the supernatural and more. I enjoyed the story Scare Queen, which deals with the challenges of aging versus youth. This author brings many relatable topics to life in different ways, continually challenging norms. I enjoyed this collection of short stories and look forward to reading more from this author. She doesn't stick to just one genre, often mixing genres with her creative storytelling.

The Wallflower's Wassail Punch is the eighth book in the A Once Upon a Widow series. The book focuses on Lady Annette Page, who remains unmarried. She had a horrible failure during her first season, and no one has let her forget the moment. Her father sets up a Christmastide party with plenty of potential suitors invited. I like that despite her horrible experience, she is still strong and willing to put herself out there to meet other suitors. Her father is ready for her to marry so he can get married himself. She eventually makes a love match, but will their differences be too much for their families?

<![CDATA[Evergreen Academy (Society of Magical Botanists, #1)]]> 216476499
I’d always sensed something peculiar about the reclusive Evergreen Academy, tucked deep in the woods of my hometown. But I never could have imagined it was a college for magical botanists–and that I am one of them.

An invitation to the academy opens up a whole new world of wonder, yet my plant affinity powers remain elusive, and my scientific training is far behind that of my peers.

When I’m assigned a tutor, Callan Rhodes, a powerful descendant of the academy’s founders, I’m baffled by his willingness to help me.

Despite my challenges, I’m enchanted by the academy’s glass schoolhouse, its grounds which are overflowing with plants that defy the climate, and the quirky festivals held each equinox and solstice.

But disaster looms as the verdant shield that protects the academy from the prying eyes of nonmagical people begins to falter. Can Callan and the other founder’s descendants sustain the magic on their own, or will the clock finally start to tick on figuring out my powers?

Elements you'll find in this story:
Magical academy
Plant magic
Small town setting
Cozy fantasy
Light academia
Science-based magic system
Slow burn romance (no spice)
First person POV
An enchanting world
And so much more]]>

Evergreen Academy is the first book in the Society of Magical Botanist series. I grabbed this book because I have enjoyed other books by this author. The story is a great YA fantasy, blending a magical academy, plant magic, and more into a cozy fantasy. From Briar's point of view, we learn about a magical academy on the outskirts of her town that she has been invited to join. She quickly learns that she has magical abilities, and this discovery changes her world. The story is well-paced, and the characters are fun. I was deep into the story when I realized I was nearing the end of the book.

Wicked Tongue is a new book by an author I always enjoy. The fast-paced story is a mix of sci-fi and horror. Daniel has a wild night of partying and wakes up to nothing he ever would have imagined. He starts at the emergency room but leaves, still not knowing what is happening. The story keeps you on the edge of your seat while you figure out what is happening to Daniel as he goes through the story. I won't say more because I don't want to give anything away. I will be looking for more of Dahlia Donovan’s books. Her writing has captured my attention and I cannot wait to read more of her work.

The Wanderer by Dahlia Donovan is the first book in the Sin Bin series. Warning this story will make you laugh and make you cry. Have the tissues ready. The story is about Graham Hodson who has never settled down. He has serious wanderlust and he loves the adventures and traveling. One main point is that he does not stay anywhere long or with anyone long. Boyce “BC Brooks, he is a rugby player whose life has thrown him in disarray. He must start over. Thankfully for an Uncle he gets a second chance when he is left an inn in Cornwall.
The two meet and cannot be more different. Their looks, attitudes about life, goals, and everything in between are different. I do not want to give away too much other than to say I love the banter between them and the honesty. When life takes a drastic change how will the two handle the challenges presented?

<![CDATA[New Jerk in Town (Carolina Kisses, #2)]]> 53003760 Surly, rude, selfish, and inconveniently attractive. Meet Milo Papatonis, the king of all jerks.

I’m not normally one to judge, but I’ve been down this particular road before and I can unequivocally say he’s earned his title. It’s not enough that Milo crushed my dreams when we were kids, but now I’m somehow being forced to dwell under the same roof with his ill-mannered ass. If he thinks his sexy shower noises and ovary-imploding smile can tempt me into forgetting, he’s nuts.

This situation is strictly business and blessedly temporary. Because my dreams are still out there waiting for me, and they won’t be found anywhere near this town—or this guy.

Jerks do nothing but break hearts, of that I’m certain. But I’ve been known to be wrong a time or two...]]>

The Crown of Stones: Magic-Price by CL Schneider is the first in The Crown of Stones trilogy. This book is a really great and intriguing start to a new series. Magic is reworked into something awe-inspiring and dangerous. Ian is addicted to magic. The problem is all magic comes with a price. What might be good for one, might pain another. Ian lays his hands and wields the Crown of Stones to help end a war. But what price must he pay for this power?
This is really well written and interesting. I like how magic comes with a cost. This is mentioned in other series but you rarely see the consequences. Ian sees the consequences of his power over and over.

The Crown of Stones: Magic-Scars by CL Schneider is the second book in a fantastic series. The story of Ian Troy continues as more memories come back to him. He is trying to figure out his past so he can understand his future. The world they live in is very uncertain and dangerous. How will he work this all out?
The characters are very well written and guide the reader through a great story. I recommend reading these books in order because each book builds on the next. I have enjoyed many reads from this author and this did not disappoint.

The Crown of Stones: Magic-Borne by CL Schneider is the third and final installment of The Crown of Stones series. This is a fantastic ending to a great trilogy of books. Emma is back and helping her friends after a relative is horribly murdered. Though this is a cozy historical mystery there are twists and turns to keep you on your toes. Emma has grown a lot as an investigator through the series which is evident in the complexity of what she goes through in this book to get to the bottom of the murder. I enjoy the characters and always enjoy books set in the late 19th, early 20th centuries. I look forward to seeing what mysteries the author takes Emma on next.

Murder the Tey Way is the second book of the Golden Age of Mystery Bookclub series. The book can be read and enjoyed as a standalone story. I enjoyed the first book in the series as it focused on Agatha Christie's stories. This book uses the works of Josephine Tey as the backdrop of a new mystery for Lexie to solve. Though there are some backstories involved the author quickly gets the reader up to date (in case they missed book 1 in the series) and some new characters. Lexie's book club has had an interesting past with murder amongst the members and this brings a new murder to the forefront. Unfortunately, Gayle (Lexie's sister) looks to be the prime suspect. The writing is done well incorporating the books the group is reading into their own murder mystery. It is a light cozy mystery read. I enjoy the characters, the plot, and this book has renewed my interest in Josephine Tey's writing. I look forward to reading more in this series.

A Vampire in Disguise is the first book of the Creatures of the Midwest book series. I was intrigued when I picked up this book because of the title and it was a paranormal mystery. The story follows Hazel as she arrives in Shadow Hollow to look for a murderer. Hazel quickly finds out there is more to the inhabitants of Shadow Hollow than she originally expected. The story drew me in and I enjoyed Hazel as a character. The different residents of Shadow Hollow definitely add to the story and mystery needing solved. I enjoyed the writing and what could have easily become a convoluted and confusing story was easily understandable. The ending left me wanting more and will bring me back to learn more about Hazel. The blurb groups the book in the same vein as True Blood and Midnight, Texas which I found to be accurate. If you enjoy paranormal stories with a cozy mystery this is worth grabbing. I look forward to reading more of this series in the future.

This Time Around is a story about returning to your past and the potential to make changes. Josie is a 47-year-old woman, a mother, a business owner, and in the process of divorce. She is relatable as she deals with all the challenges life brings her way. After she has a panic attack, she awakens in her teenage bedroom, about to start her senior year of high school. Is this a time to change the "what ifs" or to repeat the past? Josie's character draws you into her adult and teen life because she is realistic and understandable. Most of us have those experiences in high school that we know we could have handled differently now that we have the insight of living in the adult world. She handles everything carefully, trying not to give herself away to her friends and classmates that she is 47 in a teen's body. With the opportunity to make changes in her past, does Josie change her future? If you enjoy a bit of time traveling with women's fiction, this is a great read that explores the "what ifs" of life.

I enjoyed that we got to see Chloe as she went from a young adult in college to an adult in a high profile career. It stressed that what we might hold as standards can change and adjust as we go through life and our priorities change. There was a relatable honestly to Chloe and her relationships throughout the story. The story was relatable and interesting, but at times I felt a bit of disconnect because of how the story was laid out. Harriet, better known as Harry, is a tough PI and criminology professor. I enjoyed getting to know her in this story. She is confident and daring by going undercover to get intel on the Trubetzkoy crime family. I expected a private investigator but enjoyed her unconventional style and approach to gain the upperhand in the situation. The story is pretty fast-paced and kept me reading and wanting more. I also enjoyed the romantic elements of the story as well as the dialogue. I'm now curious to pick up other books by this author. I want to pick up other books in this series to get more insight into other recurring characters in the series.

<![CDATA[Fearless Love (The Bennetts of Langston Falls, #5)]]> 198610264
He’s the sensible brother in the family who’d do anything to help a neighbor out. She’s a single mother on the run. Can the two resist temptation when they become unexpected roommates?

James Bennett had his life all planned out—or so he thought. After a bitter break-up, he convinces himself he doesn’t have time for relationships anymore. But all bets are off when he befriends his father’s new caregiver, Sara Larson.

She’s the beautiful and funny travel nurse hired to help his dad. She’s also a single mom to her eight-year-old son which means she’s completely off-limits. But something is captivating about the auburn-haired beauty and he finds himself drawn to her like a moth to a hot flame.

When James learns she and her son are living out of a suitcase in the local economy motel, he invites them to stay with him and his two big dogs at Bennett Farms. Sara reminds him what it’s like to desire a family of his own. She’s everything he ever needed, and nothing he ever imagined.

But Sara has secrets and he knows getting attached might be a huge mistake.

Can James convince Sara to stay and build a permanent life with him by her side? Or will she run away again, leaving him with his heart in his hands?

Author’s Note: A steamy standalone about two roommates turned lovers. One-click for a cinnamon-roll hero who’d give the shirt off his back to help someone in need and an independent mom whose priority is her son. Romantic add-ons include a charming carriage house, flirty banter, big dogs, and late-night dirty dancing. This love story comes with a guaranteed Happily Ever After.]]>

Fearless Love: A Small Town Second Chance Single Mom Romance is the fifth book in The Bennetts of Langston Falls series. This can be read and enjoyed as a standalone book. I recommend reading the entire series because the Bennett family is worth getting to know. James is always there for everyone, but his heart has taken a hit with the ending of a relationship. Sara and her son are new to town and living out of their suitcase at a local travel lodge. Does what starts off as a friendly gesture by James become something more for both of them?

Perfect Office Pact is a sweet romance. The book was a fun, enjoyable read that I finished quite quickly. Mira has started at a new workplace and already knows the boss. Declan, who taught some of Mira's classes, realizes that he sees Mira in a new light. The two have a conflict because Declan misstepped, and Mira could take it to the board. What should a guy do when he wants to know his employee better?

Divinely Dramatic is the second book in the Divine Vintage series. This can be read and enjoyed as a standalone book. It had been some time since I read the first book in this series, but it was not an issue for diving into this fun mystery read. Marcy has been asked to be the costumer for a production of an Oscar Wilde play. I was drawn in immediately because I love Oscar Wilde's works, but the drama that always seems to unfold when stage productions are involved in a book. There are plenty of interesting characters, a mysterious death from the 1960s, and more in this book. I'm not going to give plot points or anything away. Just know that if you enjoy a fun mystery set in the theater, you will enjoy this book. I liked the characters and how the history of the theater played into the story. I look forward to reading more of this series in the future.

Curse of the Forbidden Island 179502219
It was always the a warm night, a scream of desire on the wind, the pounding of the ocean waves. Yeah, about as cliché as it got. Knowing that didn’t make it any less real. When there was a mystery afoot, she was there searching for answers.

They weren’t fooling anyone. It was obvious the six owners of the resort were masquerading as Casanovas. That was the reason for all her snooping she was going to figure out exactly what was happening on the island, if she had to rip one mask off of them at a time.

In retrospect, maybe she wanted to keep her job instead of playing detective.

The Curse of Forbidden Island is a hot & steamy, reverse harem, paranormal romance.]]>

Curse of the Forbidden Island is a short, steamy novella. Selene lands a new job at a remote tropical resort. She has no idea what she has gotten into with her new employers. The story is rapidly paced and left me wanting a lot more to the story. I won't give details away because I think they are best discovered while reading the story yourself. If you enjoy paranormal, romance, reverse harem, and more, this might be a great read to grab. I read the story in one sitting and wanted to know more about Selene, her employers, and the island. The story was developed but I would have read a much longer detailed version to get my fix. I always enjoy books by this author and I wasn't disappointed. I hope she dives further into this storyline and maybe makes it a series of stories or develops a longer version of this book. I recommend grabbing this when you need a quick getaway. I look forward to what she releases next.

Clearly, I’m not that guy, especially since I’ve already got serious trouble chasing me down—the kind that just landed me in jail. The last thing this runaway bride needs is to tangle herself up with me and my mess.

But Maisy sees something greater in me that nobody else ever has—well, almost nobody—and she’s determined to get me to see it too.

I should push her away for her own good. After all, there’s a reason people don’t count on me. But somehow I still find myself asking: Could I possibly be that knight after all—even if my armor is tarnished and dented?

Deja Brew All Over Again: A Runaway Bride Romance is the third book in the Love on Tap series. This can be read as a standalone and enjoyed, but I recommend reading the prior books for the fullest fun. The series focuses on one of the Brooks brothers. This time, Miller gets the spotlight. He has a history of trouble but is trying to get his life straight. So what happens when Maisy jumps in his car with a wedding dress on? I like the chemistry that develops between Miller and Maisy. They relate to each other well, and both have made some poor decisions in their lives. I always enjoy the banter the author brings to the stories. It makes them more relatable and keeps the story moving quickly. I look forward to reading more from this author. Her books are always a great getaway from the day to day grind.

Treason.

Amelia of Avonlee wants nothing more desperately than to earn the freedom denied to her since birth. Hell-bent on distancing herself from the prince of the warrior wolves, she will stop at nothing to end her betrothal. Even if it takes convincing her feisty cousin, Cora, to aid her in a potentially treasonous quest.

Prince Dane of Carpathia arrives at the Bastion determined to dominate the academy's competitive arenas and show their longtime rivals what the wolves are really made of. He quickly finds his world turned upside down by one little word. Fate.

Desperate times call for desperate measures, and with pressures from the outer realms mounting, a magically binding contract with the Necromancer's devious daughter, Kessara, might be his only hope.

That is if she doesn't destroy him first.

The stakes couldn't be higher as the young nobles from the seven kingdoms of dragons, wolves, humans, and fae gather together for the first time. Master of the Abyss: The Epic Conclusion to the Painted Souls Series is the third and final book of this action-packed series. Julia is trying to save her husband and others from purgatory while stopping Salvatore della Porta from reigning over the globe with his cult of followers. There are the dual timelines that started in the first two books of the series. Murky Murder: An Utterly Addictive Cozy Murder Mystery is the fourth book in the A Maid Ivy Cozy Mystery series. This is a light, cozy mystery that kept me reading until the end. I enjoyed the relationships between the characters and will go back and read the previous books in the series to get insight into how they developed over the series. Intrigued by theĚýprototype of his first calculating machine, the Difference Engine, and enthralled by theĚýplans for his even more advanced Analytical Engine, AdaĚýresolves to help Babbage realize his extraordinary vision, unique in her understandingĚýof how his invention could transform the world. Chasing Cheer is the first book in the Magical Emerald Hollow series. Holly Claus is out collecting cheer and lands in a small town in Oregon. Ash Hayes is trying to bring more people to the same small town and trying to get everyone more spirited. When the two meet, will the holiday sparks fly?
If you enjoy a light-hearted romance or the occasional holiday Hallmark movie this book will hit all the right buttons. The story is light and full of holiday cheer. I like that the characters are looking for something other than a romance but still find one. Holly is cute and determined to do an excellent job to help the North Pole. She works under the pressure of her father's shadow and wants to show she is up for the job. Ash is trying to get his business bustling and looking at all the options to bring more tourism business. I liked both the characters and the story. I have been in the mood for some lighter reading fare, and this hit the mark. Usually, I do not read holiday stories until closer to the holidays, but this gave me a nice break from the summer heat. I look forward to what the rest of the series brings. When I need more magic, I will look for something by this author.

Mr Wimp: A Steamy, Dating Humour Novella is the first novella in The Human Mating Site. This will be a series of 13 novellas with stories from The Human Mating Site. Bella is divorcing after 12 years of marriage and diving back into the dating pool. The story is a quick, enjoyable read. It is relatable, funny, and more. Dating is difficult, especially after a long break, and Bella's story deals with this difficulty. There are some steamy bits intermingled with the humor. This is a fast read, but completely worth the time. I really enjoyed the story and the break from reality. I look forward to grabbing more in this series. I think this will be a fun series to read.

The Calamities of Camden Callahan is A Revenant Novel. The story focuses on 19-year-old Cam, a pirate. Cam has had a disastrous run of luck, with his crew killed and his captain missing. As Though You Were Mine is a sentimental true-to-life story. Julie donated her eggs to help her brother and sister-in-law be able to start a family. After a tragic accident, Julie becomes the guardian of her brother's children. Is she meant to be a mom? The story is realistic and believable. The characters seem to be based on real people, making the story all the more emotional. I enjoyed Julie and how she developed through the story. She is someone that I would like to meet and become friends. Though there is a tragedy in the book, there is plenty of love and moments of happiness. It shows that even in what might be the worst situation, there is light. Though this was my first read from this author, I will watch for more by her.

Leaving No Traces: An Italian Murder Mystery is the fifth book in A Commissario Scala Mystery in Rome. Though this can be read as a standalone book, I recommend reading the other books in the series. Tequila Midnight: A Jessica Watts Southwest Suspense Novel is the first book in this series. Set in El Paso, Texas, and Juarez, Mexico, we get into the life of Jessica Watts. This is a gritty story of a stubborn woman trying to find a Mexican tycoon's missing daughter. Jessica has lived a tough life and does not trust easily. I liked this story which had suspense, crime, and more. The characters and setting are realistic and put you right into the story. I liked that this explored how someone handles trauma and uses their experience to help themself find new and different pathways. Jessica is a relatable character which makes her story more interesting. Because she is relatable, it pulled me further into the story, and I wanted to know what would happen. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more in this series.

When Magic Calls: A Collection of Modern Fairy Tales is a fun retelling of classic fairy tales. This is my first book by this author, and I was not disappointed. She has created a fairy tale museum and tells well-known stories in new ways. Using fantasy, paranormal, romance, and more, the stories come to life. I also enjoyed that each story read quickly so I could catch one while waiting for meetings and other inconveniences that daily life brings. YA fans and older could enjoy the stories. The author really put effort into reworking the stories so they have their own life instead of being a standard retelling. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from this author.

Forbidden Blood is the fourth book in The Shadow Chronicles series. I picked this up because the cover caught my attention, and I was not disappointed. I enjoyed this book and will grab the earlier ones in the series now. I have a feeling that this would be even better enjoyed after having read the previous books. This is a paranormal romance that deals with vampires, shamans, and more. I really enjoyed the world-building and character development in this book. Falling Again is the third book in the Buckeye Falls series. This can be read and enjoyed as a standalone, but I recommend reading the previous books. I didn't know what to expect because I didn't read the blurb before starting the story. I figured it would be a meet-again story, but I was pleasantly surprised to find it about a married couple who needed to reconnect in their love. Like the other books in the series, there are a variety of characters in the small town who come together to help those they care about in town. I enjoyed the character Natalie in the previous books but was unsure how I felt about her husband, Mayor Anthony Snyder. Getting to know them better gave me a new respect for those who overcame a rough patch in their marriage. If you enjoy a HEA, this is a fun read to grab. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

Murder in a Gated Community is an interesting novella for senior citizens in a gated community. This is a slice-of-life story of seniors and their day-to-day living in their community. The characters were interesting, albeit somewhat what you would expect in a senior community. You learn about all of the politics of a HOA and how some like to make life miserable for others. The different characters are familiar if you live in a closed community. Because of being familiar with the different types of personalities, there was a good bit of humor in the story to me. The Book of Hours is the second book in the Coin/Hours Duology. This is the first book I have read by this author, but I will now read the first book in this group. It has some of the same characters, but I followed the story and enjoyed it thoroughly. The story starts slowly as the setting and situation are set up. Be patient because it doesn't stop until the end once it starts picking up. There is action, suspense, and more. I was initially intrigued by the blurb dealing with an obsessive art dealer and an artist's work, but I am glad I grabbed this thriller. The characters are interesting and well-thought out. The plot was not a cookie-cutter plot. There is action on multiple continents. I'm glad I grabbed this read and will look for more by this author soon.

Through three interconnected tales, Talks Like Thunder’s struggle to retain the dignity and freedom integral to her centuries-old culture serves as a reminder of the spiritual strength revealed in Indigenous American history.

If you like authentic historical backdrops, empowered female protagonists, and triumphs of the human spirit, then you’ll love Randal Nerhus and Marjorie Carter’s awe-inspiring odyssey.

review:
Talks Like Thunder is the first novella in the Red With Native Blood series. This is a historical fiction story of a young Native American girl in 1871. At only 7 years old, Talks Like Thunder finds herself orphaned. Though her people want to care for her, it is during a time of disease and famine. Luckily, her grandfather finds her and takes her to Chiricahua village. The story seems well-researched and interesting because it is primarily from a child's point of view. I enjoyed learning more about the culture and lives in 19th-century America of Indigenous people. Talks Like Thunder grows so much in this short read. I am curious as to how the series will progress. I look forward to reading more in this series in the future.
