<![CDATA[Confessions: A New Translation (Modern Library)]]> 32149658 One of the great works of Western literature, from perhaps the most important thinker of Christian antiquity, in a revolutionary new translation by one of today's leading classicists

Sarah Ruden's fresh, dynamic translation of Confessions brings us closer to Augustine's intent than any previous version. It puts a brilliant spotlight on the life of one individual to show how all lives have meaning that is universal and eternal.

In this intensely personal narrative, Augustine tells the story of his sinful youth and his conversion to Christianity. He describes his ascent from a humble farm in North Africa to a prestigious post in the Roman Imperial capital of Milan, his struggle against his own overpowering sexuality, his renunciation of secular ambition and marriage, and the recovery of the faith his mother had taught him during his earliest years. Augustine's concerns are often strikingly contemporary, and the confessional mode he invented can be seen everywhere in writing today.

Grounded in her command of Latin as it was written and spoken in the ancient world, Sarah Ruden's translation is a bold departure from its predecessors—and the most historically accurate translation ever. Stylistically beautiful, with no concessions made to suit later theology and ritual, Ruden's rendition will give readers a startling and illuminating new perspective on one of the central texts of Christianity.]]>

<![CDATA[The V Girl: A Coming of Age Story]]> 33573555
In post-apocalyptic North America, sexual slavery is legal. Lila Velez desperately wants to lose her virginity before the troops visit her town and take it away by force. She makes plans to seduce her only friend. Lila does not love him, but he is the only man who has shown her true affection, an affection she is willing to take as a substitute for love.
Lila’s coping mechanism to deal with her mother’s loss is her secret. A secret that will bring her closer to Aleksey Fürst, a foreign, broody man who she distrusts because of his links to the troops and his rough, yet irresistible appearance. He offers Lila an alternative to her plans, a possibility that terrifies her…and tempts her in spite of herself.
With threats looming at every turn and no way to escape, Lila fears that falling in love will only lead to more heartache. The consequences of laying down her arms for Aleksey and welcoming hope might destroy more than her heart. They might force her to face the worst of her nightmares becoming a reality. Is love possible in a world that has forgotten what the human touch is?

NOTES FROM THE AUTHOR
* This is a book full of romance and anti-rape messages. I didn't write this book to romanticize violence against women but to tell the story of a girl who has to come of age under the most terrible circumstances.

* This full-length novel is a stand alone. No cliffhanger

* Alpha male hero. No cheating. No slut-shaming.

* Includes a discussion guide for bookclubs

* Possible triggers for abuse survivors.]]>

See What I Have Done 32508637 See What I Have Done, Sarah Schmidt recasts one of the most fascinating murder cases of all time into an intimate story of a volatile household and a family devoid of love.

On the morning of August 4, 1892, Lizzie Borden calls out to her maid: Someone’s killed Father. The brutal ax-murder of Andrew and Abby Borden in their home in Fall River, Massachusetts, leaves little evidence and many unanswered questions. While neighbors struggle to understand why anyone would want to harm the respected Bordens, those close to the family have a different tale to tell—of a father with an explosive temper; a spiteful stepmother; and two spinster sisters, with a bond even stronger than blood, desperate for their independence.

As the police search for clues, Emma comforts an increasingly distraught Lizzie whose memories of that morning flash in scattered fragments. Had she been in the barn or the pear arbor to escape the stifling heat of the house? When did she last speak to her stepmother? Were they really gone and would everything be better now? Shifting among the perspectives of the unreliable Lizzie, her older sister Emma, the housemaid Bridget, and the enigmatic stranger Benjamin, the events of that fateful day are slowly revealed through a high-wire feat of storytelling.]]>

To turn this Shakespearean tragedy into the Academy Award-winning dream Em has written for herself, she enters a speech competition and manages to cinch a spot in the US Youth Change Council national round. She gets to spend a week in Boston and her prayers might be answered if she can kick butt and win one of the national scholarships.

Everything seems to be going by the script until she finds out Kris Lambert--senior class president, stuck-up jerk, and her nemesis--is going, too. Cue the dramatic music. In Boston, Kris is different. Nice. Cute, even. But she knows his game way too well--be nice to your opponents and then throw them under the bus on your way to victory. Instead of becoming his next victim, Em decides to turn the tables by putting her acting and flirting skills to work. Unfortunately, as they get close to the final competition and judging, reality and acting start to blur.

Can Em use the drama from the stage to get the future she's been dreaming of?]]>

<![CDATA[Fulfilled: How the Science of Spirituality Can Help You Live a Happier, More Meaningful Life]]> 32498487 Are you living the life you thought you always wanted but feel that something is still missing? Do you think you should be happier than you are, considering all that you have? Have you achieved your professional or personal goals but still feel racked with insecurities, anxiety, or depression . . . and can't figure out why?
Psychiatrist Anna Yusim knows just how you feel. Not only has she struggled with these feelings herself, but she has also worked with patients upon patients who have expressed the same bewildering concern: they have everything they've always wanted, and yet deep down they don't feel fulfilled.
Determined to help herself and her patients, Dr. Yusim spent more than fifteen years studying and conducting research and came to a startling conclusion: this lingering feeling of dissatisfaction coincides with spiritual neglect. Once she helped her patients address their spiritual and psychological needs, she saw radical improvements in their happiness levels and quality of life.
Now science is catching up with her innovative approach to therapy as groundbreaking medical research and studies substantiate what Dr. Yusim and many others have suspected for years: spirituality is a powerful path to healing. Drawing from the best in Western medicine, as well as teachings from Kabbalah, Buddhism, and shamanistic traditions, Dr. Yusim has developed a program that marries empirical science and spirituality to help you:

Discover your life's true purpose
Eliminate self-defeating patterns and roadblocks that are keeping you from living your most authentic life
Understand the scientific underpinnings behind "answered prayers" and "random coincidences"-and why having faith in them can change your outlook for the better
Appreciate how consciousness shapes your reality and how to harness this understanding to live a life of abundance.

Filled with exercises, guided meditations, fascinating scientific research, and inspiring success stories, FULFILLED integrates the best of Western medicine with universal spiritual principles to help you find more meaning, more joy, and more fulfillment in your life.

<![CDATA[This Is the Noise That Keeps Me Awake]]> 31945042 --Library Journal (starred review) "In the book, [Shirley] Manson is seen with a bob cut and smudged black eyeliner, power posing for magazines and shredding guitar solos onstage. You'll also find candid interviews, cocktail recipes (one reads 'fill your glass with garbage'), and hundreds of archival photos from the road."
--The Cut/New York Magazine "Look at the band's just released funny, engaging and defiant coffee table book, This Is The Noise That Keeps Me Awake. Written with journalist Jason Cohen, the tableau tells the story of the band's rise to success to the tune of more than 17 million albums sold and the ups and downs that came with that, mixed in with the group's custom cocktail recipes, sidebars on the worst foodborne illnesses they have had, Manson's love for the San Antonio Spurs and the rest of the band's affinity for the Green Bay Packers and celebrity encounters like Bono and Bill Clinton."
--Forbes "Garbage will release a coffee-table book full of artifacts, photos, and anecdotes that capture their long pages of lyrics with penciled-in edits, cocktail recipes--like one for 'Vodka With Anything'--and snapshots from a forgotten era where Manson wore her hair boy-short and platinum blonde."
--The Cut/New York Magazine, from a feature on Shirley Manson "With input from all four of the band's members, the book looks at Garbage's musical process and how they’ve coexisted as a band for over two decades."
--Dazed "This Is the Noise That Keeps Me Awake is ultimately a tale of survival. The band fought constantly against record companies, illnesses, trends, and a million other headaches to become an international success...Against the odds, Garbage has remained one of the only survivors of the post-grunge era, one that continues to push their own boundaries and explore what they're capable of."
--Noisey/VICE "All I know is, if you call yourself Garbage, you’re going to start hanging out with garbage, and the next thing you know, you will be garbage."
Carrie Elizabeth Erickson (1920-2012) to her son Douglas "Duke" Erikson, 1995 Garbage are known around the world for songs that mix pop sweetness with the dour thunder of industrial music and the rhythmic punch of hip-hop. Now, for the first time, the four band members tell the story of that music in their own words. Packed with rare photos and personal snapshots, this book examines how Garbage make their music, and how they've kept it together (or not) for more than twenty years. The beautifully designed, large-format coffee-table book is bound with an embossed cloth hardcover and finished with a dust jacket. The edges of the text pages, printed on luxurious matte art paper in six colors, are finished with a stunning pink spot color. This Is the Noise That Keeps Me Awake is a must-have (and perfect gift) for Garbage's fans. Excerpt (In the words of Butch Vig, drummer): "It was 1995, we were finishing our debut album, and I was stressed. A lot of music business people had told me it was a mistake to give up full-time music production to start a band. So I ignored them all and took a leap of faith. The simplest reason was that I just wanted to be in a band with my friends. I'd been playing with Duke and Steve for several years, and now we had a new beginning with an X a Scottish singer named Shirley. She seemed like a good fit for our little club of misfits. So we all took that leap."]]>

Generalized anxiety disorder is also known as neurotic anxiety. This book examines personality characteristics related to generating and maintaining anxiety. It offers a graduate-level textbook depth of exploration with easy-to-understand examples and encouraging dialogue.
Just as many biological symptoms (e.g., pain, fever, sweating) serve various functions, the book presents as a mystery that poses an intriguing question: What if anxiety symptoms aren’t merely the effect of some cause, but also personality-based and purposeful means to achieve goals?]]>

In the Valley of the Sun 31213078 For readers of Joe Hill, Cormac McCarthy, and classic Anne Rice, a chilling tale of suspense and horror set deep in the Texas desert.

Travis Stillwell spends his nights searching out women in West Texas honky-tonks. What he does with them doesn’t make him proud, just quiets the demons for a little while. But his nights soon take a terrifying turn in a desert cantina, where Travis crosses paths with a mysterious pale-skinned girl in red boots. Come the morning, he wakes weak and bloodied in his cabover camper, no sign of a girl, no memory of the night before.

Annabelle Gaskin spies the camper parked behind her rundown motel and offers the disheveled cowboy inside a few odd jobs to pay his board. Travis takes her up on the offer, if only to buy time, to lay low, to heal. By day, he mends the old motel, insinuating himself into the lives of Annabelle and her ten-year-old son. By night, in the cave of his camper, he fights an unspeakable hunger. Before long, Annabelle and her boy come to realize that this strange cowboy they’ve taken in is not what he seems.

Half a state away, a grizzled Texas ranger is hunting Travis down for his past misdeeds, but what he finds will lead him to a revelation far more monstrous than he could ever imagine. A man of the law, he’ll have to decide how far into the darkness he’ll go for the sake of justice.

When these lives converge on a dusty autumn night, an old evil will find new life—and new blood.

Deftly written and utterly compelling, this is an atmospheric literary fiction debut perfect for fans of horror, psychological suspense, and Western fiction.]]>

Grief Cottage 31450969 The haunting tale of a desolate cottage, and the hair-thin junction between this life and the next, from bestselling National Book Award finalist Gail Godwin.

After his mother's death, eleven-year-old Marcus is sent to live on a small South Carolina island with his great aunt, a reclusive painter with a haunted past. Aunt Charlotte, otherwise a woman of few words, points out a ruined cottage, telling Marcus she had visited it regularly after she'd moved there thirty years ago because it matched the ruin of her own life. Eventually she was inspired to take up painting so she could capture its utter desolation.

The islanders call it "Grief Cottage," because a boy and his parents disappeared from it during a hurricane fifty years before. Their bodies were never found and the cottage has stood empty ever since. During his lonely hours while Aunt Charlotte is in her studio painting and keeping her demons at bay, Marcus visits the cottage daily, building up his courage by coming ever closer, even after the ghost of the boy who died seems to reveal himself. Full of curiosity and open to the unfamiliar and uncanny given the recent upending of his life, he courts the ghost boy, never certain whether the ghost is friendly or follows some sinister agenda.

Grief Cottage is the best sort of ghost story, but it is far more than that--an investigation of grief, remorse, and the memories that haunt us. The power and beauty of this artful novel wash over the reader like the waves on a South Carolina beach.]]>

<![CDATA[The Unquiet Grave (Ballad, #12)]]> 32620367 New York Times bestselling author Sharyn McCrumb comes a finely wrought novel set in nineteenth-century West Virginia, based on the true story of one of the strangest murder trials in American history—the case of the Greenbrier Ghost.

Lakin, West Virginia, 1930
Following a suicide attempt and consigned to a segregated insane asylum, attorney James P. D. Gardner finds himself under the care of Dr. James Boozer. Fresh out of medical school, Dr. Boozer is eager to try the new talking cure for insanity, and encourages his elderly patient to reminisce about his experiences as the first black attorney to practice law in nineteenth-century West Virginia. Gardner's most memorable case was the one in which he helped to defend a white man on trial for the murder of his young bride—a case that the prosecution based on the testimony of a ghost.

Greenbrier, West Virginia, 1897
Beautiful, willful Zona Heaster has always lived in the mountains of West Virginia. Despite her mother’s misgivings, Zona marries Erasmus Trout Shue, the handsome blacksmith who has recently come to Greenbrier County. After weeks of silence from the newlyweds, riders come to the Heasters place to tell them that Zona has died from a fall, attributed to a recent illness. Mary Jane is determined to get justice for her daughter. A month after the funeral, she informs the county prosecutor that Zona’s ghost appeared to her, saying that she had been murdered. An autopsy, ordered by the reluctant prosecutor, confirms her claim.

The Greenbrier Ghost is renowned in American folklore, but Sharyn McCrumb is the first author to look beneath the legend to unearth the facts. Using a century of genealogical material and other historical documents, McCrumb reveals new information about the story and brings to life the personalities in the trial: the prosecutor, a former Confederate cavalryman; the defense attorney, a pro-Union bridgeburner, who nevertheless had owned slaves; and the mother of the murdered woman, who doggedly sticks to her ghost story—all seen through the eyes of a young black lawyer on the cusp of a new century, with his own tragedies yet to come.

With its unique blend of masterful research and mesmerizing folklore, illuminating the story’s fascinating and complex characters, The Unquiet Grave confirms Sharyn McCrumb’s place among the finest Southern writers at work today.]]>

Alone 30753657
On a tiny lighthouse island far from the rest of the world, a lonely hermit lives out his existence. Every week a supply boat leaves provisions, its occupants never meeting him, never asking the obvious Who are you? Why do you hide? Why do you never leave? What is it like to be so alone ?

Years spent on a deserted rock—a lifetime, really—with imagination his sole companion has made the lighthouse keeper something more than alone, something else entirely. For him, what lies beyond the horizon might be...nothing. And so, why not stay put? But one day, as a new boatman starts asking the questions all others have avoided, a chain of events unfolds that will irrevocably upend the hermit’s solitary life....

But when her husband dies in a car accident, the “step in Char’s title suddenly matters a great deal. In the eyes of the law, all rights to daughter Allie belong to Lindy, Allie’s self-absorbed biological mother, who wants the girl to move to her home in California.

While Allie begins to struggle in school and tensions mount between her and Char, Allie’s connection to young Morgan, a ten-year-old-girl she tutors, seems to keep her grounded. When I Am Through with You 32957193 A gripping story of survival and the razor’s-edge difference between perfect cruelty and perfect love.

“This isn’t meant to be a confession. Not in any spiritual sense of the word. Yes, I’m in jail at the moment. I imagine I’ll be here for a long time, considering. But I’m not writing this down for absolution and I’m not seeking forgiveness, not even from myself. Because I’m not sorry for what I did to Rose. I’m just not. Not for any of it.

Ben Gibson is many things, but he’s not sorry and he’s not a liar. He will tell you exactly how what started as a simple school camping trip in the mountains ended the way it did. About who lived and who died. About who killed and who had the best of intentions. And he’ll tell you about Rose. But he’s going to tell you in his own time. Because after what happened on that mountain, time is the one thing he has plenty of.

Smart, dark, and twisty, When I Am Through With You will leave readers wondering what it really means to do the right thing.]]>

<![CDATA[Lead Yourself First: Inspiring Leadership Through Solitude]]> 31451193 A guide to the role of solitude in good leadership, including profiles of historical and contemporary figures who have used solitude to lead with courage, creativity, and strength.

Throughout history, leaders have used solitude as a matter of course. Eisenhower wrote memoranda to himself during World War II as a way to think through complex problems. Martin Luther King found moral courage while sitting alone at his kitchen table one night during the Montgomery bus boycott. Jane Goodall used her intuition in the jungles of Central Africa while learning how to approach chimps. Solitude is a state of mind, a space where you can focus on your own thoughts without distraction, with a power to bring mind and soul together in clear-eyed conviction. Like a great wave that saturates everything in its path, however, handheld devices and other media now leave us awash with the thoughts of others. We are losing solitude without even realizing it.

To find solitude today, a leader must make a conscious effort. This book explains why the effort is worthwhile and how to make it. Through gripping historical accounts and firsthand interviews with a wide range of contemporary leaders, Raymond Kethledge (a federal court of appeals judge) and Michael Erwin (a West Pointer and three-tour combat veteran) show how solitude can enhance clarity, spur creativity, sustain emotional balance, and generate the moral courage necessary to overcome adversity and criticism. Anyone who leads anyone-including oneself-can benefit from solitude. With a foreword by Jim Collins (author of the bestseller Good to Great), Lead Yourself First is a rallying cry to reclaim solitude-and all the benefits, both practical and sublime, that come with it.]]>

Quantum Dream 29589266
As runaway climate change and resource wars threaten the human species, Solomon and his ecoterrorist organisation create Gaia, a quantum artificial intelligence who has compassion. Gaia lives in the Quantum Dream, the collective unconscious of the world’s QAIs. Through the dreams of quantum computers and people, she influences the world to build a starship, New Hope, which will allow humankind to create an experimental ecocentric society on a distant world, popularly known as Dragonland.

Decades pass until, through a quantum quirk, Chaos, another QAI like Gaia, is spawned in the Quantum Dream. Chaos wishes to destroy humankind for its ecocide, and so infects Earth’s billions with the Blood Plague. Only those aboard the starship, New Hope, are safe as they sleep in stasis, and travel to Dragonland. However, Chaos plots to defeat Gaia, and drive those aboard the starship insane through their dreams.

Can Solomon and Gaia stop Chaos from exterminating humankind? And can they then guide the star travellers to create an ecocentric society on Dragonland, and save humankind from itself?]]>

Awaken 15714346
The book is lauded for its action-packed plot, suspense, and intellectual stimulation, offering readers not only a thrilling story but also enlightening insights into African culture and obscure historical references, such as the U.S. government's remote viewing programs and the expeditions of African King Abubakari Bakr II. The narrative's foundation on the concept of descendants of African tribes uniting to rebuild the continent presents a compelling and hopeful vision of Africa's future.

Critics appreciate George's ability to weave together a story that is both entertaining and educational, exposing readers to lesser-known aspects of African history and culture. The ending of the book leaves readers eager for more, hinting at the possibility of a sequel to continue the adventures of Thomas and "The Brotherhood" in their efforts to restore Africa to its former greatness. For those interested in a story that combines elements of adventure, history, and a deep exploration of cultural identity, "Awaken" offers a unique and enriching experience that goes beyond the conventional bounds of fiction.

"The Dagger" by Timothy George, a sequel to "Awaken," is a fast-paced thriller that takes readers on a global adventure blending ancient spirituality with modern technology. The novel reintroduces Thomas Jet, now the leader of the Brotherhood, a secret society with ancient African roots. Jet's quest revolves around a mystical, medieval dagger, pivotal to the storyline, which combines international intrigue with a deep dive into ancient and modern mysticism. This book is highly recommended for fans of action-packed narratives and international espionage enriched with a touch of historical and spiritual elements.]]>

<![CDATA[Ready For Love (Semper Fi, The Forever Faithful Series, #1)]]> 35155919
Because falling in love with your straight bestie? Not just a cliche, but a guaranteed recipe for disaster.

...right?

Growing up, Gabe never saw "Little Jakey" as anything more than the kid who always liked to tag along after him and his brothers, but somehow, being friends with Jake has become the best part of his day. And after a seven-month deployment? Seeing Jake is the one thing he's looking forward to the most.

He just didn't expect that hanging out in person again would be so confusing... or keep blurring the lines about just how straight he is... or keep making him want things that he never thought he would.

Things that seem a lot like forever.

Ready For Love is a gay romance novel of approximately 79,000 words that contains a hot Marine who spends a good portion of the book in denial, a perky flight attendant who keeps saying yes, zoo animals in compromising positions, a variety of home decor issues, and a sweet and very public happily-ever-after ending worthy of true romantics. Every Stella Starling romance can be read as a standalone and takes place in the same interconnected, contemporary world. Ready For Love is the first book in the Semper Fi series, which is a spin off from At Last, The Beloved Series.]]>

<![CDATA[Behind Blue / Metapox (7 - Hail the Queen saga, #1)]]> 34262208 Point Blanka, the band she and Will had formed with Sokol Comarova, another woman intelligence agent. As the cab pulled into one of Heathrow's special security areas, Blanka hummed it to herself.

Will sat at his drum kit, behind a base drum emblazoned with the name Point Blanka. He beamed at Blanka, set down his sticks, and removed his headphones.
'Hi, Sis.'
'I expected to find you comatose, ' she laughed, 'but I don't think I've ever seen you looking so well.'
'Everybody thinks I'm nuts.'
'Are you?'
'No more than usual.'

* * * * *

The gold pawn Blanka held fell to the floor and rolled around with its own momentum.
She watched it rolling then picked it up. Is it true? she thought. His truth, but is it the truth? Could she have come back? I suppose if we believe it's a magical world, anything's possible. And what happens if she has?

She looked at Will and blinked, taking in the magnitude of his revelation. Her eyes filled with a soft glow, as of candlelight. 'This calls for a celebration.' She placed the pawn on the board, got up from the chair and hugged him. She took a bag of Lindor dark chocolate balls from her turquoise eco-friendly handbag, and dished out three each.
'Essentials, ' she said.
'Essentials, ' Will agreed. Blanka smiled, unwrapped the chocolate balls, popped one into her mouth and another into her brother's.
'Then, where is she?' Blanka asked.
'Close. I can feel her getting closer, ' he said. 'I think she's heading for The Goldheart. When she comes, we can finally decipher the inscription.'

In the awkward way teenagers sometimes have, Will suddenly changed the subject. 'Look at this. I've been watching it a lot lately.' Moving to his keyboard, he brought up a YouTube video of the song Blanka had hummed in the taxi. The Zombies' 1964 hit, She's Not There. Sitting next to each other, they watched the video and sang softly

Well, let me tell you 'bout the way she looked
The way she acts and the colour of her hair
Her voice was soft and cool
Her eyes were clear and bright
But she's not there.

Blanka looked at her brother intently. He felt the look and turned sombre. 'If she's here, I'll find her for you, ' Blanka said. 'But you have to go back to school tomorrow and behave normally.'
'Fifteen-year-olds aren't supposed to be normal.'
'I still want you to go back to school. Try not to attract so much attention.'

Before she left the loft Blanka went into her stepfather's study. Hart was at the bar behind his grand piano, mixing one of the varieties of White Russian cocktail with which he punctuated his day.
'He wants to keep watch on The Goldheart, ' said Blanka.
Hart snorted and shook his head. 'Does he expect her to pop out of it? I dug it up from the seabed, I can tell you what's inside it - heavy, precious gold, that's made us all very rich. She's not there.']]>

Where You Live 31945223 Where You Live might have sun, surf, and sand, but it’s more densely populated with cracking marriages, accidental pregnancies, and shitty jobs. Andrew Roe’s Californians face sharp points of change: Stay or go? Love or leave? Run or get stuck? Their choices, like our own, reveal life’s stark limitations and its wide-open vistas all at once.

Full of lush prose and unforgettable imagery, the stories in Where You Live shine an unforgiving yet shimmering light on longing, loss, and the everyday catastrophes of life.]]>

<![CDATA[Buddhism for Busy People: Finding Happiness in a Hurried World]]> 29093096

What does it take to be happy? We've all asked ourselves this question at some point, but few of us have found the path to lasting fulfillment. David Michie thought he had achieved his life's goals--the high-level job, the expensive city apartment, the luxury car, the great vacations--but a small voice was telling him he wasn't really happy. A chance remark from a naturopath sent him to his local Buddhist center. There he began the most important journey of his life. In Buddhism for Busy People Michie explains how he came to understand the difference between the temporary pleasures of ordinary life and the profound sense of well-being and heartfelt serenity that comes from connecting with our inner nature.]]>

Michael's Song 35111784
For Michael, being a child is nothing of the sort. Marked by scars that hold their own decisions to either spare him a lifetime of mental abuse or torment him each time he looks at them, Michael shares with us his songs of love, fear, and faith. He details how he was born into his mother’s sins and robbed of his childhood just shortly after learning right from wrong. Michael painfully walks us through the physical and psychological abuse that nearly claims his mind, body, spirit, and soul during his mother’s last days here on earth.

Michael’s Song is certain to touch your heart. Tears are inevitable as your emotions absorb what Michael is forced to feel every day of his young life. You might walk away from his songs full of hurt, pain, and grief. But you will be moved to help change a child’s—like Michael’s—life. It takes one heart to make a difference. Will it be yours?]]>

<![CDATA[Higher Ground (Equinox Mysteries, #1)]]> 35108313
Every death starts with a life...

The first 48 hours of a murder investigation are critical... but what about the last 48 hours of the victim's life?

HIGHER GROUND turns the classic police procedural on its head by alternating between the first 48 hours of the murder investigation and the last 48 hours of the murder victim's life, told from his point of view.

In Detroit, unemployed automotive worker Bruce Jalopnik is found murdered in an empty field, the latest victim of a globalized economy. It's up to rookie homicide detective Amy Delvecchio and her more experienced partner Dexter Lemmon to find Bruce's killer.

Bruce's final 48 hours -- spent desperately trying to save the ex-wife and son that abandoned him -- alternate with the first 48 hours of the murder investigation, as suspects weave in and out of both stories, with lies and the truth never too far apart. Meanwhile, Amy has to deal with her dying father and her estranged sister, who comes back into her life at precisely the wrong moment.

And as their respective clocks wind down in this suspenseful mystery and psychological thriller full of shocking twists, Amy the detective and Bruce the victim both come to a realization: that the past is never the past... and that the future is never guaranteed.

***NOTE: HIGHER GROUND contains no curse words/profanity but does feature scenes of violence and subject matter/themes that some readers may find disturbing.***

HIGHER GROUND is the first book in the forthcoming EQUINOX mystery anthology series. Each book will feature entirely different stories, characters and locations, but all will feature the same concept: the first 48 hours of the murder investigation alternating with the last 48 hours of the murder victim's life, told from their point of view. Therefore, all books in the series can be read as stand-alone works. TAKE FIVE, the second book in the EQUINOX anthology series, is slated for release in Late 2017/Early 2018.]]>

<![CDATA[Fish Can't Climb Trees: Capitalize on your brain's unique wiring to improve the way you learn and communicate. Discover the Mercury Model(TM)]]> 27246066
Addressing this issue directly, Fish Can’t Climb Trees is a pioneering guide which allows the reader to easily identify and accurately describe how particular minds tick, naturally and individually. It presents the Mercury Model, an innovative system which accepts that minds are wired differently, pinpointing how each of us experiences and handles information according to our own ‘master operating programme.

Steeped in ancient wisdom and brought up-to-date with current research, this is a 21st century cognitive model. Fish Can’t Climb Trees takes a conversation typically dominated by education and psychology in an unexpected direction. Our individual experience of the Mercury archetype shapes our attitude toward information and holds the key to how each of us thinks, learns and communicates.

If we embrace the Mercury Model, we can find common ground among us in order to build authentic, respectful relationships with people of all ages, from all nations, both genders and of all levels of capacity. The Mercury Model supports the position that the world needs all of us - one learning style is not better or worse than another, we all have mental strengths and blind spots; we each do best what comes naturally. The Mercury Model gives permission to be oneself, whether we embody the best characteristics of fish, elephant, penguin or parrot.

Fish Can’t Climb Trees contains stories and case studies regarding people of all ages who have used these methods in the workplace, the schoolroom, the home, or the community.]]>

<![CDATA[A Bigger Table: Building Messy, Authentic, and Hopeful Spiritual Community]]> 34564368
Pastor John Pavlovitz invites readers to join him on the journey to find--or build--a church that is big enough for everyone. He speaks clearly into the heart of the issues the Christian community has been earnestly wrestling with: LGBT inclusion, gender equality, racial tensions, and global concerns. A Bigger Table: Building Messy, Authentic, Hopeful Spiritual Community asks if organized Christianity can find a new way of faithfully continuing the work Jesus began two thousand years ago, where everyone gets a seat.

Pavlovitz shares moving personal stories and his careful observations as a pastor to set the table for a new, more loving conversation on these and other important matters of faith. He invites us to build the bigger table Jesus imagined, practicing radical hospitality, total authenticity, messy diversity, and agenda-free community.]]>
