Love this story. I read A Paris Wife about Hemmingway and always thought Zelda to be "eccentric" and wild. Then I listened to pod cast that presented the Team Fitzgerald and Team Zelda ida. I really felt for Zelda as a small town girl wanting more, leaving home/security and finding a crazy world where you need to fit in....... This gave me a new perspective for all three (Zelda, Fitzgerald and Hemmingway). And poor Zelda with the treatment for depression/bipolar/manic. We've come along way but I can't imagine shock treatment or the zombie drugs that prevailed during that time.

It is NOT a psychological thriller. It's a story..... I wanted to mark this as 3.5 stars because it originally kept me reading...... but then came the rambling or what felt like throwing the story together to begin to wrap the storyline up so I started to check out. And I had grown attached to Todd's character as a man that recognized his mistakes. Even though I was 3/4 of the way through the book, I was looking for the evolution of his character.

Still looking for a real 4 or 5 star book.

I can't begin to adequately describe how this book made my heart melt. I fell in love with the words, the rhythm and the characters. Although I felt that the end of the book was wrapping up characters left and right as if it were tying up of loose ends and closing the loop, I also felt it satisfied me.... it helped me part with the characters and gave me closure on another book finished. I finished the book on a 4 hour drive home where I sat in the front seat reading, crying, reading, crying some more. I was compelled to read and to absorb every word with all my heart. I was a complete mess. I intended not to cry or to at least stop reading when I began to cry. (let's face it, I knew I was going to cry) At some point I said screw it, I'm already a complete mess, lets finish this thing...... Did I say how it melted my heart and I fell in love? I love it when a book does that to me. Makes me feel emotion.....

I was all into this book.... loving the characters..... loving the descriptions..... loving the Dex/Em relationship......then BAM! at some point I felt Nicholls felt the need to cram a whole bunch of "stuff" together trying to rush the end of the book. It's as if he was told the book could only be so many pages. At that same point I felt the rhythm of the words change. I was so frustrated then transitioned to flatly disappointed. I just read the book so I could say I read it. I hate it when authors rush to wrap up all the pieces they feel they need to in order to end it a certain way. Skipping details, conversations and moments to throw in the big picture trying to circle back with big broad strokes to complete it. I'm sorry. I know a lot of people loved this book. I was just flatly disappointed in the last 1/3 of the book. And I always remember how I feel at the end of a book
