Once bitten, twice shy, and sexy PI Jackie Morrisey wasn't going there again. Vincent Argeneau may be the hottest guy she's ever met, living or dead, but she's here to stop a killer from turning this vampire into dust, not to jump into bed with him.

Rule #2: Never kiss a vampire . . . it can be a pain in the neck.

Okay, so Vincent's had four hundred years to perfect his kissing skills, and he does look rather tempting when he runs around the house shirtless. He's also charming, protective . . . did we mention he can kiss? Jackie needs to be on her guard, or else she'll have to come up with a new rule: If you're going to fall in love with a vampire, make sure it's a bite to remember.]]>

Lucian Argeneau, hunter of rogue vampires, has been alive for over two thousand years, and there's very little to excite him anymore. Food has become tasteless, sex is ordinary. Of course, the Argeneaus were a certifiably odd bunch. There was the sometimes chipper, sometimes brooding Lucern a “vampire romance writer. There was the wacky stage actor, Vincent. She couldn’t imagine Broadway casting a more ravenous singing-and-dancing Dracula. And then there was Bastien. Of this unique cast of characters, he seemed the tallest, darkest and hungriest and his effect on Terri was decidedly delicious. Just looking into his eyes made her want to serve up her innocence on a silver platter. And she had a feeling the love feast was about to begin.]]>

A Quick Bite (Argeneau #1) 38568 That hot guy tied to Lissianna Argeneau's bed? He's not dessert - he's the main course!

Lissianna has been spending her centuries pining for Mr. Right, not just a quick snack, and this sexy guy she finds in her bed looks like he might be a candidate. But there's another, more pressing issue: her tendency to faint at the sight of blood...an especially annoying quirk for a vampire. Of course it doesn't hurt that this man has a delicious-looking neck. What kind of cold-blooded vampire woman could resist a bite of that?

Dr. Gregory Hewitt recovers from the shock of waking up in a stranger's bedroom pretty quickly - once he sees a gorgeous woman about to treat him to a wild night of passion. But is it possible for the good doctor to find true love with a vampire vixen, or will he be just a good meal? That's a question Dr. Greg might be willing to sink his teeth into...if he can just get Lissianna to bite.

384 Ilona Andrews 0441020860 Llaph 4 It was nifty to see the edge and broken from a different place other than essentially just the edge with a touch of the weird and broken added for flavor. I find it rather intriguing that pretty much everything in the weird is the reversal of the broken though it shares some of the same words for stuff.
... the Weird's nations. Adrianglia took up a big chunk of the Eastern seaboard, stretching in a long vertical ribbon. In the Broken, it would have consumed most of the states from New York and southern Quebec to Georgia and a small chunk of Alabama. Below it, West Egypt occupied Florida and spread down into Cuba. To the left of Adrianglia, the vast Dukedom of Louisiana mushroomed upward, containing all of Louisiana and a chunk of Alabama in the south, rising to swallow Mississippi and Texarcana, and ending with the coast of the Great Lakes. Beyond that, smaller nations fought it out: the Republic of Texas, the Northern Vast, the Democracy of California.. ...
---
"Who's the musketeer?" Audrey murmured from behind him.
"That's a Texas sharpshooter. See that short barrel? When he primes it, it splits on the sides and spits out a ball filled with shrapnel and charged with magic. It's like lashing three or four grenades together and tossing them into a crowd."
---
"They aren't Vikings. They are the veekings. They're pagan, they own Canada, and they live to kill. You're looking at thirteen hundred years of martial tradition, forged by a religion that tells you if you die in battle, your afterlife will be glorious. Their blades are magically augmented. They're a problem in a fight, especially if there is more than one."

I enjoy a story that implements some good grifts/schemes in it that basically fleeces the bad guys and this book does so on numerous occasions aside from the Big One at the end of the book. Btw, I loved how William and Cerise were used within the story. The whole seeing them from a different person’s viewpoint other than each other’s was fabulous. I already thought they were bad-ass; Audrey’s input just reinforced it a bit.
This is the first time that I read this book after reading the serial for Sweep in Peace and it gave me a better appreciation for the team of George, Jack, & Gaston. I would so read a series starring that team + Sophie/Lark.]]>

review:
I think I like this book more each time I read it. IA makes the best couples in my opinion. Kate & Curran, Andrea & Raphael, Jim & Dali, Declan & Rose, William & Cerise, Kaldar& Audrey ... alone the character is still great, but then to pair them with, basically, their perfect match makes both characters even better. I’m not saying that it makes the character itself perfect, but their other half is the perfect complement to each other, flaws and all.
It was nifty to see the edge and broken from a different place other than essentially just the edge with a touch of the weird and broken added for flavor.

I would so read a series starring that team + Sophie/Lark.

So very awesome. This is one of my favorite series and I read everything in it at least once a year. I try to get people to read it. I think everything they write is awesome to be honest. The first ever book of theirs I read was The Edge because I first saw Bayou Moon and had to start at the beginning.
When I finished the Edge series I hemmed and hawed about starting the KD series because it wouldn't be like Edge, it is in a different PoV, different genre, and a bunch of other crap excuses I kept coming up with.
I so wish I had started it sooner than I did because it was the best choice I had made in a long time. This series, over the years, has seen me through a lot of hard life events. I knew I could always turn to it when I needed to be cheered up when life was too hard or I needed a reminder than stuff could be worse....
I'm glad they're ending Kate's story where it is and soooo look forward to anything else they give us connected to KD world. There are a ton of threads out there and I so hope that their "fans" will stop harassing the heck out of them for stupid crap and let them be themselves. I love everything they give us from KD, the Edge, to Inn Keeper and the short stories in between.
I don't want to talk about the story so much as to just say it was wow! A lot of things I wasn't expecting, but some I saw might be coming. He was buried in unicorn lane--that means there is a good chance he is coming back. I'm sure there are those out there talking about this, but I'm not looking for them. One nice thing about being blind, I can ignore a lot of crap.
So excited to see what they do with that ending!]]>

I felt for Rose and how her life had turned out with her having to take care of her little brothers. This book was my first introduction to the awesomeness that is Ilona Andrews. I love her characters and the intricate and fertileness of her imagination. The descriptions that she uses always impress me since they seem to be so different from every other book that I’ve read. Yes there were shifters and magic users, but the world(s) were unlike anything else out there. They were fully developed, vivid, and completely enthralling to read about, I so wanted to read more about the Weird.

That story about the princess in the crystal throne... I know others probably already said what it could be, but it holds a special place in my heart. The Diamond Throne by David Eddings. It was one of the very first fantasy books I ever read and that series was the very first I owned in hard back. My awesome DnD playing uncle gave them to me at 14 and cemented my love of the genre. For years David Eddings books were some of my go tos to get a pick me up and immerse myself into a story when the real world was hard. So in a weird way they're connected to KD series now since it took over that place in my heart.

342 Ilona Andrews 042527067X Llaph 4 Through most of the series you had to deal with Kate knowing that she has to hide, Curran runs the pack, and Roland looming all dangerous like in the distance. Now she doesn’t have to hide, Curran has to adjust to not living with other shape-shifters, and Roland is trying to be the typical helicopter-ish parent—except he is a megalomaniac with god-like powers and stuff.
Another favorite thing I like about this series is the plethora of different mythologies that converge in Kate’s world. It makes things so very interesting to read about mythological stuff from other religions. Before this my knowledge of efreet and djin has been very limited. The carnivorous unicorns were also a nice touch btw.

Another favorite thing I like about this series is the plethora of different mythologies that converge in Kate’s world. It makes things so very interesting to read about mythological stuff from other religions. Before this my knowledge of efreet and djin has been very limited. The carnivorous unicorns were also a nice touch btw.

The Last Hour of Gann 18589656
Amber Bierce had nothing left except her sister and two tickets on Earth’s first colony-ship. She entered her Sleeper with a five-year contract and the promise of a better life, but awakened in wreckage on an unknown world. For the survivors, there is no rescue, no way home and no hope until they are found by Meoraq—a holy warrior more deadly than any hungering beast on this hostile new world…but whose eyes show a different sort of hunger when he looks at her.

It was his last year of freedom:

Uyane Meoraq is a Sword of Sheul, God’s own instrument of judgment, victor of hundreds of trials, with a conqueror’s rights over all men. Or at least he was until his father’s death. Now, without divine intervention, he will be forced to assume stewardship over House Uyane and lose the life he has always known. At the legendary temple of Xi’Matezh, Meoraq hopes to find the deliverance he seeks, but the humans he encounters on his pilgrimage may prove too great a test even for him…especially the one called Amber, behind whose monstrous appearance burns a woman’s heart unlike any he has ever known.]]>
706 R. Lee Smith Llaph 5 Despite the good and bad about this book I still adore it. I took the time to read more recent reviews and while I get their opinions I still feel mostly the same about the book as I did the first time I read it. There are still some things that bother me, which can be totally inconsequential but whatever. I didn’t write a review for each time I read the book and I’ve lost count as to how many times I’ve actually read it, but these things till bother me if I meditate on them and I decided to make a list of them no matter how silly they might seem.
Scott: is his name Everly Scot or Scott Everly? I wonder that because of when Meoraq asked him his father’s name and then later in the book when he goes to banish him from camp it got switched around. I’m guessing it is one of those fluid things since he did the same thing when he talked about himself or his father at different times.
Hairbrushes: Out of all of the stuff the colonists bring no one brought a hair brush? At least one was never mentioned, which I can get because that sort of thing can be tedious and unnecessary. But, other things were mentioned at least once. An example would be Amber having her first period. It only had to be mentioned once to set the tone, so to speak, for the entire book. That issue along with the bathroom facilities. I’ve had this question for all of R. Lee Smith’s books that I’ve read I can’t recall a hairbrush in any of them and yeah I know that can be a silly thing to think of, but when you are in a situation like Amber’s, or her other characters who aren’t exactly living in the peak of civilization, you wonder about these sort of things.
Socks and bras: She mentioned having underwear, but no socks or bras. I’ve read a lot and the thing I most remember from books where someone is put into a survival situation is that they either have or wish they had clean socks. They are very important since keeping your feet in good condition is pivotal for situations like that. Heck there is a whole section of the book where Amber doesn’t even wear shoes trekking through the wilds. This is another thing that isn’t too important in Smith’s books, but I noticed it since I’ve read them all so many times. When it comes to bras well I get not really wearing them or thinking they are important if you are a small woman, but Amber is supposed to be “fat and as a big girl up top (even after I have lost several sizes and LBS) myself I’d probably freak the heck out if I didn’t have at least one I could MacGyver together and use so that stuck out at me.
Fat: Now, this part of the book still bothers me a lot whenever it is mentioned. Thankfully it doesn’t get mentioned too much after the first 1/3 rd of the book, but still. What was her height? If 200lbs is fat was she like 3 feet tall or something? I’m about 57 and the biggest I ever was was 250 lbs. To me that was fat and I had trouble doing simple crap like rolling out of bed. That was years ago and I’ve lost a lot of weight since then. I stayed around 185 for several years and a size 16 and while that is big, and considered obese, there were a lot of things that I could still do and I didn’t get the extreme fat shaming that Amber did. I’ve lost quite a few sizes since then, but I’m sure people would still think I’m fat, lol. She lost 60lbs to get accepted into the colony and she was still fat wtf? Did society those days have different sizing for crap or what?
The number of survivors: Now this can just be seen as a silly continuity issue, but sometimes it would bother me. Was it 50 or 48?

I’m sure I’ve more, but those are just the ones that stuck in my head for now.

I’ve read reviews where people complain about the characters not showing enough emotion. I can say from personal experience that despite having dealt with pretty serious events and situations, that I never showed that much emotion when that stuff happened. At least I didn’t show it very much on the outside (by facial expressions or verbal reactions.) Some people just process things differently and I don’t blame Amber for hers seeing how she was raised. You don’t know how to do something, for the most part, unless you are shown it at least once first.

Whether someone likes a book is a Coke vs. Pepsi thing to me. Some people like one or the other and no matter how the other defends their choice the other person is going to find something to say about it.

Nothing is perfect and I love this book despite its flaws and plot holes. The basic premise, what I get from it myself and something that was not the original one from the author, still resonates with me and I enjoy reading it.

I love this book, that is all, carry on.

I have had this book since it was published and have read it at least once or twice a year since. I won't even begin to start about the things I loved, liked, didn't like, or hated about this book as I feel that I would never get it right. I will only say that I can count on an RLS book to be the right thing for me to read when I'm feeling pretty down. I know that is a wtf sort of statement, but I can usually depend on a book like this to basically "clean the clock" of my mental disposition and then proceed to "tell the time" for me. I use it as a kinda reset button for when I get into one of my bad moods.
Despite the bad that happens in this book some good things happen too. Amber and Meoraq are on my list of favorite couples ... despite the fact they're different species.]]>

Now he's shadowing her in New York--all seven-plus feet of him--determined to protect her from stalkers who want to use her in shifter dogfights. Even if he has to drag her off to an isolated Maine town where the only neighbors are other bears almost as crazy as he is. . .

Let sleeping dogs lie. Bo knows it's good advice, but he can't leave Blayne be. Blame it on her sweet sexiness--or his hunch that there's more to this little wolfdog than meets the eye. Luka Barend is an alpha lion shifter, member of the Shifter Council, teacher, and big brother. He's also stuck firmly in the “friend zone. In point of fact he is King of the Best Friend zone. Sometimes it really sucks to be him.

Aura Vietor is a High Priestess, an air elemental witch, and a woman who really, really wants Luka to realize that his best friend is actually a woman, with needs. Many, many dirty needs. Stupid blind lion shifter!]]>
140 Cherie Nicholls Llaph 4 Luka Barend is an alpha lion shifter, member of the shifter council, and has been in love with his best friend since school, but will not admit it. The night Aura’s sisters choose to help her is just the start to Luka beginning to admit to his true feelings, too bad she did not like his reactions. Soon pranks follow, one of many being tiny tornados in his shower. The council sees one and wants retribution, which Luka instantly vetoes; he will take care of it. The next day he visits Aura to apologize, instead they end up up against the wall, kissing passionately, oblivious to their surroundings. A series of events that start with a lightning bolt and an impatient god needing to speak with Aura, lead to Luka finally realizing what he feels for Aura and that she will be his mate. Despite an interfering council, an attack on Aura and her sisters, and her own decision of self-sacrifice in order to do what she thinks will be best.
Just as it looks like things will come together for them, along comes Aura’s nemesis who plans on replacing her within the coven. During an important ritual she, along with her sisters, is attacked by him, forcing her to have to unleash the dark side of her immense power in order to save them. Following the attack she debates on whether or not to focus her full attention on her position as high priestess, resigning as a deputy and forgoing her newly budding relationship with Luka. This decision does not sit well with people, not her boss, the sheriff, and definitely not Luka who is recruited to talk some sense into her. Luka knows her so well, he cuts off any excuse she might make and defends against each objection that she has. He also tries to convince her that it is possible for her to balance both of her positions, and the growing relationship between them together. Before her response, her mimesis, who was thought to be imprisoned, appears nearby calling for her death. What will be her decision? Will they even last long enough for her to make one?
I rather enjoyed reading this book for a lot of reasons, one being that it contains characters which seem likable, who were a joy to read about, and honestly it just made me happy to read it. This book is light-hearted, with a bit of sexy, along with a well-adjusted side of humor. I love the banter that flies between Aura and Luka, the banter between Luka and his brothers, and well to be honest, all of the snark happening in this book. Ms. Nicholls took the well-used trope of friends to lovers and blessed it with her own type of wit, excitement, and sexiness making it unique, fresh, and free from any contrived drama you can find in other books using the same trope. it is a cute, funny, easy read that is guaranteed to give you a mood boost if you need a quick laugh and love paranormal romance. This is a great start to a new series; I would definitely read the next book with no problem.

Can she balance her job as a deputy, being high priestess, and her relationship with Luka that seems finally to be going somewhere?
Luka Barend is an alpha lion shifter, member of the shifter council, and has been in love with his best friend since school, but will not admit it.

I don't know what it is about KA books, some I love to pieces, and others I hate so much I wish I read physical books so that I could throw them around a little. This is one of my favorites. Lauren is great and Tate is great, except for him being a raging asshole sometimes. The book might wander into the perilously too long category, but it puts your emotions through the ringer while it is doing it and you don’t notice it as much, at least I didn’t.
I could wax on and on about what was great about the books, what really sucked about it, and do like, an actual review of it ... but I just want to say that:
The fact that Lauren said “sorry so many times drove me nuts. Is it a mid western thing or something? I noticed this same sort of thing happening in other KA books and wondered.
All in all this is one of my favorite books despite any issues I had with it.
I forgot to add that Tate, out of all of the KA books that I've read, is at the top of the list for KA heroes that I love.
Also, also ... I forgot to add that his theory of "dick territory" and "chick territory" for when it comes to fixing up things around the house is hillarious. If it comes with a cord and weighs more than 50 lbs....]]>

I think this is my favorite KA book, but it runs a close second with Motorcycle Man. Which I know is weird since the first read of MM ticked me off to no end.
So my favorite hero is either Tate or Tack.

Romance writer Shayla Whitman never expected to be drawn into a real-world thriller—or meet a hero who makes her pulse pound. Action on the page is one thing. Actually living it is another story. Shay’s not as bold as her heroines, but she’s a mother. She sees the panic in her new neighbor’s usually fearless blue eyes —and knows there’s no greater terror for a parent than a child at risk. It’s an ordeal Shay won’t let Pete face alone. She’s no highly trained operative, but she’s smart, resourceful, and knows what makes teenagers tick.

Still, working alongside Pete has its own perils—like the heat between them rising out of control. Intimate emotions could mean dangerous, even deadly, consequences for their mission. No matter what, they must be on top of their game, and playing for keeps . . . or else Pete’s daughter may be gone for good.]]>

Sanya stood looking steadily at me.
I coughed. I waited.

I grunted vaguely in reply.
"You hit that," Sanya said.
I did not look at him. My face felt red.

Yes the bumbling, silly wizard image is fading to be replaced by a harder Harry, but he still seems to have the characteristics that made me initially love him. He is just less prone to try the peaceful, right way route first now.
I had a lot of thoughts about this book, since I really like it, but I failed at taking notes thinking I would remember everything with only a little prodding ... goooo me for not doing that. :) So I will just natter on about some stuff I remember.
Mouse--I adore him. I fell in love with him when Harry first got him ... as a puppy ... who was small enough to fit in his duster’s pocket. A bunch of us dogs stood around for a moment, just sort of staring at one another.
And Mouse said, in what sounded to me like perfectly understandable English, "That bitch." We all stared at him.
Mouse huffed out a breath, shook his beslimed coat, and said, "Follow me." Then he took off after the Leanansidhe, and, driven by reflex-level instinct, the rest of us raced to catch up.
"Gggrrrr rawf arrrgggrrrrarrrr," I said.
Mouse gave me an impatient glance, and somehow--I don't know if it was something in his body language or what--I became aware
that he was telling me to sit down and shut up or he'd come over and make me.
I sat down. Something in me really didn't like that idea, but when I looked around, I saw that everyone else had done it too, and that made me feel better.
Mouse said, again in what sounded like perfectly clear English, "Funny. Now restore them."
He is so bad ass for a dog. :(
"I live with a wizard. I cheat." He took a step toward her and his lips peeled up from his fangs in unmistakable hostility. "You want to restore them? Or do I kill you and get them back that way?"
Lea narrowed her eyes. Then she said, "You're bluffing."
One of the big dog's huge, clawed paws dug at the ground, as if bracing him for a leap, and his growl seemed to... I looked down and checked. It didn't seem, to shake the ground. The ground was actually shaking for several feet in every direction of the dog. Motes of blue light began to fall from his jaws, thickly enough that it looked quite a bit like he was foaming at the mouth. "Try me."
As usual the final fight scene in the book was awesome. Butcher does a phenomenal job with describing what is going on, mixing the actions and explaining just enough of about what is happening without it seeming like he is repeating it out of a combat manual. Loved this book and I will say that I was supremely happy that I started this series when Ghost Story came out. Otherwise I’d have to hurt someone because of that ending and the short story that followed it that I read in Side Jobs.

Also ... there is a scene that pretty much describes each time Harry and Karen try to get together ... sorry, your princess is in another castle. So, depending on the game, there are 7 more levels to finish, gogogo. Poor Harry, he is picked on by life, a lot.

<![CDATA[Born of Vengeance (The League #10)]]> 31305079 A fate worse than death . . .

Bastien Cabarro survived the brutal slaughter of his entire family only to have his wife pin their murders on him. Made Ravin by The League, he is now a target for their assassins-in-training to hunt and kill. The average life expectancy for such beings is six weeks. But defying the odds is what this Gyron Force officer does best, and Bastien won’t rest until he lays his betrayers in their graves.

Ten years later, he has one chance to balance the scales of justice, provided he relies on his former wingman the very sister of the woman who testified against him.
Major Ember Wyldestarrin joined the outlaw Tavali the day Kirovar fell into the hands of a tyrant, and she and her team were left on an outpost to die under the barrage of enemy fire. The last thing she wants is to be involved in politics again. But if she doesn’t bring Bastien in, her sister will pay the ultimate price. Now she has to find some way to betray her former wingman before he catches on and kills her. Even so, treachery doesn’t come easy to a woman who took a loyalty oath to protect her homeworld and comrades-in-arms, especially when Bastien means more to her than just another partner.

Yet as she tries to do right for her family, she learns that Bastien doesn’t just hold the key to the fate of Kirovar, he is vital to The Sentella-League war, and to The Tavali. If she hands him over, three nations fall. If she doesn’t, her entire family dies. Their fates are all in her hands, and time for all of them is quickly running out.

`I liked this book a lot more than the last one. I would like to think I got a better hold on all of the threads that go on in these books. I know I enjoyed them more this time around. One thing I liked was the were-centric sort of storyline that went on. Yes, there were the Athanate bits—but since she wasn’t in Denver for the bulk of it it didn’t seem to be center stage—at least to me. I’m curious to see how things will be with the New Mexico alphas in the future—Cameron is—well I want to see what is up with that guy for sure.

<![CDATA[Vampires in America: The Vignettes - Vol. 2]]> 36648176
These are the stories in between the books, the slices of life that happen as the vampires of North America defend their lives, uncover secrets, and sometimes, simply take a moment to romance the women they love.

As always, be forewarned, there is sex in these stories. But Reynolds’s readers wouldn’t have it any other way!

188 D.B. Reynolds 1611948320 Llaph 4 I was happy to finally read more about the twins. I’ve always wanted to learn more about their backgrounds. I really wanted to read the short about Juro and Lucia, but her site is just such a pita for me to go through. Which is why I try to pay attention to her blog—somehow I missed the story and had been eagerly awaiting this second vignette to read it.
The day to day stories about the vampire and their mates were wonderful. However I really disliked the interviews. I thought they’re rather stupid to be honest. I’m not one of those people who are clamoring to read the next instant of a person’s life and just find interviews and gossipy stories invasive. But, that’s just me. I skimmed those and thoroughly enjoyed everything else—even if I had already read them before.
Reynolds is one author that I consistently pre-order no matter what. I’m not a huge fan of erotic stories or alpha male stories but this author is where I make the exception.

I love these little stories between the novel and novellas.
I was happy to finally read more about the twins. I’ve always wanted to learn more about their backgrounds. I really wanted to read the short about Juro and Lucia, but her site is just such a pita for me to go through. Fearless (Pax Arcana, #3) 25129297 When your last name is Charming, rescuing virgins comes with the territory -- even when the virgin in question is a nineteen-year-old college boy.

Someone, somewhere, has declared war on Kevin Kichida, and that someone has a long list of magical predators on their rolodex. The good news is that Kevin lives in a town where Ted Cahill is the new sheriff and old ally of John Charming.

The attacks on Kevin seem to be a pattern, and the more John and his new team follow that thread, the deeper they find themselves in a maze of supernatural threats, family secrets, and age-old betrayals. The more John learns, the more convinced he becomes that Kevin Kichida isn't just a victim, he's a sacrifice waiting to happen. And that thread John's following? It's really a fuse...

FEARLESS is the third novel in an urban fantasy series which gives a new twist to the Prince Charming tale.]]>

This is my absolute favorite of the series. I can't tell you exactly why ... it just is. I love Iskandar and Paisley. This book also gave me more fodder to dislike Maddy. I also don’t know why I do, but something about her character just rubs me the wrong way.

For nearly six hundred years, Vlad Tepesh cared for nothing, so he had nothing to lose. His brutal reputation ensured that all but the most foolhardy stayed away. A powerful spell links Leila to the necromancer Mircea. If he suffers or dies, so does she. 340 Jeaniene Frost 0062075853 Llaph 3 One thing that bothered me was how trivial deaths seemed in this book; I’m meaning deaths of good characters related to the main characters. Death should never really be trivial, but I just felt that there was a lip service sort of thing done instead of actually “feeling it like in previous books.
Leila was annoying, mostly, in the previous books, but she got really so for me in this one. Her hypocrisy about green-eyeing humans was one of the big ones for me. The spiel about her Cherokee heritage was interesting, but didn’t really play as big of a part as I thought it first might. It seemed almost like an afterthought of sorts. I’m interested in seeing more about Gretchen and Maximus, or just Gretchen if I am wrong about that part. The whole thing about always knowing what is best for others despite their education, experience, or age is something that drove me nuts in the NH books and slightly did so in this series. What is with these women discounting these sort of things for their own thoughts on the matter? I don’t think that fits the definition of strong willed woman to me, just stubborn as hell woman instead.
I can understand Vlad being ruthless and I guess sacrificing someone who you loved deeply, in a family way for centuries, for your mate/wife was a bit much. I don’t think that has really come up a lot in other books I’ve read, but it showed loud and proud in this book. I guess I just wasn’t comfortable with it being used to show “his love to Leila. That could just be me as I’m sure there are some out there that think that is wildly romantic. I’m just not one of those since I think that is a catch-22 thing that is one of those things I don’t want to think about, but I know is something that could be thought of. I don’t know how to explain my issues, okay?
It also got me thinking of how different Vlad seems as a character in his series as opposed to the Vlad in the NH series. He had a lot more sarcasm going on there with a lot less obsessively scary as in his series. I guess love can really change a man?
Getting a bigger insight into Ian and his history was nice. I’m hesitantly waiting to read his books next.

Naya was a strong, intelligent, kick-ass woman with an unwavering loyalty to her brother Scott. I can understand her views on being independent and not being able to trust easily outside of the lab and aside from her brother, but at times that pig-headedness annoyed me. The reader has the benefit of seeing both sides of the coin so her hesitations are completely understandable. Watching her finally accept her role within the clan was awesome and I think that she will complement Leif perfectly.

This book was a great beginning for an interesting new series. Since it is a blend of some sci-fi, fantasy, with some Norse mythology added in for good measure it is exceedingly unique for the PNR/UF genre. It was fast-paced with some nice action that wasn’t over explained too much. It did have the fated-mate aspect added in, but even though it started off as seeming to be just a duty with a touch of that “omg irresistible passion it ended up actually being a bit more than just that. Leif saw it as a duty at first and Naya saw it as her being influenced and manipulated somehow. I don’t blame either of them for their initial responses since Leif is in charge of his people and Naya spent a great deal of time in a laboratory while growing up.

<![CDATA[Born of Legend (The League #9)]]> 27297977 “It’s official Take a Psycho to Work Day. Why else would I be here?

Hunted. Hated. Betrayed. Dagger Ixur is on the run for his life. As one of the most recognizable members of his royal house, he has a bounty on his head that guarantees him no quarter from any friend or even family. But surrender isn’t in him. He will fight to the bitter end. A resolve that is sorely tested when he narrowly escapes a trap that leaves him severely wounded. With what he believes is his dying breath, he saves a boy born to an extinct race from a group out to enslave the kid for his legendary abilities.

Ushara Altaan has spent her entire life hating those born to nobility. After all, it was a royal house that drove her entire species into virtual extinction. As a rare Andarion Fyreblood, she is sworn to end the existence of any royal she finds. But when Dagger saves her son’s life, she is torn between her people and a debt that can never be repaid.

Yet worse than Dagger’s family that’s still out to end hers, are the League assassins after him who will stop at nothing to claim the lives of her Tavali family. The only hope she has to save them all is to put their future and her faith into the hands of the very enemy whose grandmother personally extinguished Ushara’s legendary lineage. But how can she ever trust Dagger when he is a disinherited outlaw whose very name is synonymous with betrayal?

737 Sherrilyn Kenyon 125008282X Llaph 5 While I was finishing this book it hit me that Kenyon is really good, at least to me, about pointing out that villains can seem to be villains and that each hero can start off as a villain. She is very good at showing what other people see about a person, then showing that maybe they weren’t all that right to begin with. There is a reason for everything and it was shown in this book big time. I recently read Styxx and I still think that this installment showed it the most out of all of the books of hers that I’ve read.
I think it maybe because I like this series more than her DH series or it could be that as a reader of this series and knowing its history that it makes a bigger impact to see it, so to speak, rather to be told about it or experience it in flashbacks. I recall while reading it when something that Dagger did was revealed that I went “oh shit that’s right I had mostly forgotten about it. I think the biggest thing that sticks in my head is all of the stuff he did as Dagger and that Tavali pilot with the white hair who wore a mask. I remember when I first read about him that I hoped he got a book eventually. Boy was I surprised when in fact he did get a book.
Pretty much all of Kenyon’s books are heartrending in one way or another. The biggest thing is how she shows that the villains can really turn into heroes, but this book, like most of her others, really shows how heroes can really have a touch of the villain in them too. No one is infallible and there is always something crappy in a person’s past. I think that hit me harder because I loved each of the previous heroes and it was hard to see wow they really were assholes back then. Yeah I get it that they all went through horrendous crap to get where they are now but even if we love them there were parts of the story we didn’t get to see then.
It comes to prove that old saying about there being three parts to a story: yours, theirs, and the truth.
I love how the technology has evolved with the series and how some of it can mirror the tech advances we’ve had in the years when she first started writing this. I am meaning how the characters use the tech around them and the words she uses, I can’t really describe it since I failed to take notes, but it’s there okay.
One of the few gripes I have is how the hero, instead of being worthless and stupid end up actually being these super smart vastly knowledgeable beings who can do pretty much everything. Though most of the time they think they suck at it. The other thing is the extreme; I mean EXTREME, torture that they go through as they are growing up. It’s just so sad and infuriating. At times I think it to be a little too much at times. I will gladly say that I was very happy to not have read about any sexual abuse that he had to go through with his childhood. I was quite happy to read only a small insinuation of it and I think maybe once at that.
All in all? This is my favorite of the League series and I think it was a great book to wrap up everything the characters dealt with throughout the series as a whole. A lot happened in the previous books and the thing that connected them all was someone who no one ever really thought would step up and be that unassuming hero for pretty much everyone.]]>

456 Mark Henwick 0992824036 Llaph 5 I knew that there was going to be a lot going on in this book thanks to events at the end of the last book, but wow did Henwick weave them all together nicely. I thought the fact that there were so many packs in LA was rather intriguing when compared to the packs in the more eastern parts of the US. I really liked the all-female pack of bikers. I liked how they were the more sensible of the weres, lol.
The politics were just I don’t know what to say. It built up over the series and it culminated in well it is something you should really read for yourself. I know I can’t explain them that well. Some of the decisions were really surprising and shocking and I look forward to seeing what comes of them.
The revelations about Amber’s high school I had an inkling and was totally not expecting that turn of events. I was also not expecting what it led to. Despite the dark subject matter it was done tastefully and informatively. I’m probably using the wrong words, but I’m having trouble coming up with words to say period. It is something most people don’t think about. Since most people don’t think about something unless it deals with them or is shoved in their face.
When she read off the title for the second tape I just went “omgomgomg that makes a lot of sense now in my head.
I binge read the entire series and I’m sad I have to wait for the next one—not even a teaser blurb yet.

I am a big fan of this series and this book is a great installment. Andy is an awesome character with strengths in the form of her being a shifter, familiarity with the supernatural joined with her weaknesses that take form in her insecurities and issues with emotions. Together they are mixed with her wicked sense of humor and smarts to get to the bottom of stuff. The plot was multi-layered, had an intriguing mystery, vivid and lively characters, and tons of action starring supernatural beings. You could read this as a standalone, but you would miss stuff and I would strongly urge you to read the prior books, they are totally worth it!

When Verity gets the call from the producers of Dance or Die, the reality show she almost won several years before, she finds the lure of a comeback impossible to resist, and she and Dominic are off to L.A. for one last shot at the big time.

Of course, nothing is that simple. When two of her fellow contestants turn up dead, Verity will need every ally she can find—and a couple she wasn't looking for—in order to navigate the complicated steps of both the tango and a murder investigation without blowing her cover. It doesn't help that her official family backup is her grandmother, Alice...]]>
368 Seanan McGuire 1101602422 Llaph 5 The cast of characters is so vast and colorful, I love it. I really treasured Alice’s role in solving the mystery. You wouldn’t expect a cookie-baking grandmother to be so blood thirsty, adept at traveling different dimensions, and able to kick ass and take names ... oh and there is that thing where she figured out how to age in reverse. Lol McGuire just keeps adding to the bestiary of cryptids, never a dull moment there.
Just when you think that it has all been done before, especially the usage of mythological creatures, and that you can predict what will happen next McGuire shows you how very, very wrong you really are. I love this series, I think even more than the October Day series to be honest.

<![CDATA[Winter Lost (Mercy Thompson, #14; Mercy Thompson World, #20)]]> 201182779 Mercy Thompson, car mechanic and shapeshifter, must stop a disaster of world-shattering proportions in this exhilarating entry in the #1 New York Times bestselling series.

In the supernatural realms, there are creatures who belong to winter. I am not one of them. But like the coyote I can become at will, I am adaptable.

My name is Mercy Thompson Hauptman, and my mate, Adam, is the werewolf who leads the Columbia Basin Pack, the pack charged with keeping the people who live and work in the Tri-Cities of Washington State safe. It’s a hard job, and it doesn’t leave much room for side quests. Which is why when I needed to travel to Montana to help my brother, I intended to go by myself.

But I’m not alone anymore.

Together, Adam and I find ourselves trapped with strangers in a lodge in the heart of the wilderness, in the teeth of a storm of legendary power, only to discover my brother’s issues are a tiny part of a problemÌýmuch bigger than we could have imagined. Arcane and ancient magics are at work that could, unless we are very careful, bring about the end of the world. . . .]]>

<![CDATA[Born to Be Badger (Honey Badger Chronicles, #5)]]> 125991248

Emily “Tock Meyerson-Jackson is on a mission to rid the world of shifters trafficking humans for hunting and cash. And now that she’s narrowed down her suspects to a brutal coalition of male lions, nothing will get between this honey badger and her prey—not even a dog-loving Tiger with absolutely no time management skills. Doesn’t matter that Shay Malone is ferociously adorable. With a war brewing between cat families, Tock doesn’t have time to lounge around with a football-playing tiger shifter. But when she realizes the coalition is also responsible for the death of Shay’s father, she’s forced to partner up with the flirtatious feline. . . .

Revenge is most definitely on the menu for Shay and his tiger shifter brothers. But when it comes to Shay’s alluring partner in crime-solving, so is seduction. Tock might be a bad-ass of a honey badger, but she’s awfully cute when she’s flashing her fangs, which she’s pretty much doing all the time these days. Good thing revenge is a dish best served hot. Because when it comes to Tock, Shay knows just how to turn up the heat. . . .]]>

<![CDATA[Breaking Badger (Honey Badger Chronicles, #4)]]> 56218051 Fans of Thea Harrison and Nalini Singh won’t want to miss this exciting, funny, and sexy novel in the mega-popular series.

It’s instinct that drives Finn Malone to rescue a bunch of hard battling honey badgers. The Siberian tiger shifter just can’t bear to see his fellow shifters harmed. But no way can Finn have a houseful of honey badgers when he also has two brothers with no patience. Things just go from bad to worse when the badgers rudely ejected from his home turn out to be the only ones who can help him solve a family tragedy. He’s just not sure he can even get back into the badgers good graces. Since badgers lack graces of any kind . . .

Mads knows her teammates aren’t about to forgive the cats that were so rude to them, but moody Finn isn’t so bad. And he’s cute! The badger part of her understands Finn’s burning need to avenge his father’s death—after all, vengeance is her favorite pastime. So Mads sets about helping Finn settle his family’s score, which has its perks, since she gets to avoid her own family drama. Besides, fighting side by side with Finn is her kind of fun—especially when she can get in a hot and heavy snuggle with her very own growling, eye-rolling, and utterly irresistible kitty-cat . . .]]>

Complications arise in the form of creatures created by the Ra'Ak; creatures who now seem bent on destroying the universe, one planet at a time.
