This one gave me all the feels... happiness, sadness, anxiety, pity, desire, EVERYTHING! I hadn't read this one because I was afraid it was going to be too much and I might have issues reading it. Ms. Wells does the writing so well and flawlessly that the only thing you can do is continue the journey with Christa and Scrap. The author played it really well, she gave us a glimpse into the past and made sure we knew that Christa was a survivor, once we were hooked, Cate gave us the story. Amazing!

She doesn't give a crap what others think and travels to London to do some research on the nightlife for her latest novel. She is a well-known writer of a popular book called Matilda, which follows the life of a prostitute. [spoilers removed] Born to a prostitute, crawled his way from the gutters of the East End to become the owner of the most exclusive gambling hell in London, he doesn't let anyone get the better of him. That is until he is dragged into a dark corner and almost gets his throat slashed, but thankfully Sara is near and is a crack shot. In exchange for saving his life (not his face though, he gets a deep slay from his eye to mouth), he agrees to help her with her research.

This is my favorite part of the book. Derek Craven (dreamy sigh) is a cynical jackass and tries to make Sara feel like a mouse, and calls her Mouse. But the lady knows how to stand her ground, not care what others think, and pairs Derek’s cynicism with patience and understanding. He starts to learn that he can be loved and cared for without having to exchange something in return. Lena was a hard cookie to crack, but she stayed firm and made it all the way through to the end. Jimmy looks like an a-hole, but as we see his story unfold, we notice that he is just someone that has been harmed by the one person that was supposed to protect him.

Jimmy is the lead singer for Stage Dive and has had some trouble with drugs in the past. Now, he needs a companion to make sure he doesn’t fall into old habits and destroy all the hard work he has put into being sober. But, he is not a ray of sunshine, more like a moody SOB who kicks all his companions, except Lena. Recently fired by Stage Dive’s manager, she was hired on the spot. Companionship, communication, and a not-so-gentle hand are what Jimmy needs. Lena offers all of those and offers unrequited love as well, which makes Jimmy freak and help her with the ��6 steps to forgetting him�� until that doesn’t work and they add the ��7 steps�� to the list. Una is at the bottom of the food chain with 3 other lone females. She hasn't shifted yet and is considered defective due to a lame leg. She was attacked as a child by a rogue wolf and due to her injuries, she lost the mobility of her leg and is badly scarred. She grew up with Killian, the Alpha of the pack, and has always stayed away from him. He is everything she dislikes on a man: he is a bully, mean, grumpy and occasionally attacks you. Una has become her own woman and has kept secrets for the higher member of her society, including Killian.

One fateful evening, she goes into heat right in the middle of the commons area while she is serving dinner. She proclaims that her wolf has declared Killian is her fated mate, but Killian being the dense wolf that he is, rejects her right in front of everyone. Una flees to her secret place and there she is helped by a witch who janks the mating bond right out of her. The next day, Una is back to being her normal self - but! The witch took away her mating bond, she didn't take away Killian's mating bond - which means that as life goes on for Una, Killian starts to realize that she is indeed his mate and that she has gotten rid of their future due to his uncaring ways. Can I say I have mixed feelings? I love Cate C. Wells, her writing style is top-notch and I'm always looking forward to her books. But this one left a sense of "not fast enough, and too fast at the end". We met Annie in previous books and Justus during the last book, so the author does that where she leaves you wanting to know more about these new mysterious characters. But this one did drag up until 70% of the book and then when we got to the good part, it was rushed into two chapters. Don't get me wrong, I love a good grovel, but Annie didn't find her backbone until chapter 14 (and there are 15 chapters in this book). The level of patience from Jusuts puts saints to shame. I thought he was great, he was funny, he was sincere (well, except at the beginning but emotions were running high). Overall, it was good... just slow and then rushed.

The story revolves more around the mystery than the romance, or the actual main character's relationship. It wasn't so bad, but I didn't feel much chemistry between Kat and Marcus. And since there was so much going on, I would often get lost within the plot and plot twist and get bored. I just look over the middle and focused at the end to know who was who and to get an idea of what would happen in the next book.

We get a glimpse of the future couple in the next book and new characters where introduced. It was overall, alright.
