Governments still wanted to take everything from Felix and Legion.

In the end, Legion had to back down. Retreat back to a new homeworld. Losing important people in the process.

Kit Carrington and Lillian Lux sacrificed themselves to save him and were marooned on a hostile planet. Even as their home world fell into ruin, Felix fell back.

He resolved himself to wait for a chance to get back into the fight after tending to his wounded organization.

When I started the story book 1, I expected a point of view from the "bad guy" in the game, someone who bends the rules, is ruthless and must fight everyone while dealing with real-life consequences and moral questions.

But this book made it clear you won’t get this here.

There is little to no real-life interaction here and while everyone around him is allowed to cheat or get powers right out gifted, our main character gets reprimanded when he uses the rules in a not expected way not expected from the all-knowing and -powerful AI as he gets thrown into one swim-or-die situation to the next.

This book is also very strong in the “I expected your move and you fell right into my trap�-Twist where all Characters pull out more and more Powers that have not even been hinted at.

Jason is not the Villain in the story. Nor is he the (Anti-)Hero. He is just the puppet on the string of the AI, and that is not a very enjoyable setting for me.

I had delayed this book for a while now, I haven’t even bothered to read any of the other Spin-off series (even trough the book strongly urges you to do, its entirely optional) and I believe this will also be the last book of this series I will pick up.
I was hoping to read more about Alexion, more about Jason’s relationship with the Company and his parents, more dealing with Haters, the supervisory authority and maybe Worshippers and Fans.
Not a drawn-out battle over half the book where everyone is just saying that they expected that outcome and have prepared accordingly.

This book is also very strong in the “I expected your move and you fell right into my trap�-Twist where all Characters pull out more and more Powers that have not even been hinted at.

Jason is not the Villain in the story. Nor is he the (Anti-)Hero. He is just the puppet on the string of the AI, and that is not a very enjoyable setting for me.

I had delayed this book for a while now, I haven’t even bothered to read any of the other Spin-off series (even trough the book strongly urges you to do, its entirely optional) and I believe this will also be the last book of this series I will pick up.
I was hoping to read more about Alexion, more about Jason’s relationship with the Company and his parents, more dealing with Haters, the supervisory authority and maybe Worshippers and Fans.
Not a drawn-out battle over half the book where everyone is just saying that they expected that outcome and have prepared accordingly.

The current tour of duty for Leftenant Trig Bioblast, Second Shaman of the OCSS Skull Crusher, had been completely routine, and, disappointingly, uneventful. However, this was to be expected for the job of second shaman on one of the mightiest cruiser class vessels to ever patrol the Antilles Cluster keeping the Peace of the Gormegast Horde Eternal. The days of revolution, when the horde had thrown off the tyrannical oppression of the human and elven corporations were a distant five hundred galactic years in the past.

Today, there was very little in the cluster that could significantly challenge an Oak Clan Star Ship, nor, admittedly any other clan cruiser in the horde. Sure, there were minor skirmishes with pirates, brigands and spy vessels that had to be vaporized. There were also the odd planetary disputes to be settled, generally with local in-fighting on those worlds; but never anything that a few dropships with squads of heavily armored Oak Marines couldn’t “resolve.� The last battle that had actually required the Skull Crusher to marshal her full might had been with a squid ship, nearly four GY ago, well before Trig had joined the ship.

All of which made today, much more interesting. While on duty, Trig had received an Automated Ó”thereal Message from the OCSS Bone Wracker; and while there was nothing unusual in getting a message from another clan cruiser, this one was a Call-To-Arms. An extremely rare type of message that was only issued when a ship encountered a situation that was beyond the capabilities of a single OCSS. Further, and more troubling, he had tried repeatedly to hail the other shaman, and gotten no response. That was completely out of protocol and could only mean something had happened to the shamans aboard the ship.

Of course, the truly exciting news was that his superior, Thargus, was temporarily incapacitated, making Trig the acting First Shaman, giving him a front row seat to the investigation as part of the First Away Team. It appeared that, at long last, his on-duty life would get exciting enough to distract him from his off-duty life.

His off-duty time had been a bit more than interesting. It had, in all honesty, been completely bizarre. About two Galactic Weeks ago, a long dormant shaman stone passed down his family tree for thousands of years had suddenly become active much to Trig’s surprise. Upon examining the stone, he’d discovered that it was linked to another stone—in a different universe, beyond the Astral Plane. And the people who had activated the stone? Well, they were an ancient army of mythological immortal warriors that his grandfather claimed had once ruled a vast Multiversal Empire, but then vanished for no known reason.

It seemed that these, no longer quite so mythological beings wanted Trig, by heredity and as the owner of the stone, to join them and assist in their ‘Restoration of Glory.� He wasn’t exactly sure what that meant, but he was more than a little concerned that doing so might be a conflict of interest with his allegiance to the horde.

All the while Leah works to win freedom and a future for her Personal AI who is self-aware in a system that demands she be archived or deleted.

In ‘C´Ç²Ô³Ù±ð²õ³Ùâ€� Leah makes headway in all three quests as well as competing in the first Merkize Contest. Each of the quests is a contest of sorts, and she faces stronger adversaries than she has previously. In 'Ipseity' Leah discovers that the syndicate inserted a dangerously modified AI chip in her mother, the police are actively investigating her activities, her neural architecture is continuing to change, and her enemies are becoming more numerous and determined. Every encounter they have is a traditional encounter in the sense of a game. Its never something positive. It always results in a Charisma or Fight Challenge. They never really fail but they wont succeed either too easily as the game has to stay challenging.
I can feel the work of a DM in those encounters to work as a balancing tool as well, so crudely that it borders on sheer stupidity (as example the refusal of bandits to take the legendary weapons from our group, but take everything else)

It does not make it better that each groupmember fits the cliché DnD Group to the letter.

Clay Cooper is the old Veteran who - to challenge himself - decided to play a warrior with just a shield. He has played many campaings and just jumps in to help the DM, otherwise he just rolls with it.

Golden Gabe is the guy who insisted to play his old character, the same he always played. For balancing sake the DM agreed in exchange to have the story revolt around him and gave him severe debuffs unless the story demands of it.

Moog is the guy who rolled a wizard because they're badass, but barely follows the game and plays with his smartphone all the time. Whenever it is his turn he has no clue whats going on and does whatever comes to his mind.

Matrick is the guy who has spend way to much time writing an elobate backstory, just for the DM to take it all away at the beginning of the game and reset him to null.

And Ganelon is your generic run-on-the-mill Murder Hobo

Couldn't bring myself to finish this book after i realized that this is basically a cleaned up transcript of a DnD-Campaign.
