God, I fucking love this book; the plot twists, the romance, the action, the deception, the character growth (AMAZING!), the world of Prythian. Reading it a second time was even more enjoyable. I think this book is my favorite in the series.

Genuinely, I loved everything about this book. The main character Eelyn, is brutal, tough, beautiful and loyal. The internal conflict she goes through between the love of her people/god (Aska) and the love for her brother Iri, who had become Riki is a beautiful struggle. The family dynamics in this book make the reader so emotionally invested in every single character. And every single character is interesting.

The emotional themes in this book were realistic and well written. The death of a loved one, loyalty to god/goddess, being apart of a clan, having undying love for family and friends who become family, trauma bonding, the cultural impact of worshipping a god/goddess, the need for survival, war trauma, a common enemy. All these things created a book with so much depth.

The romance! Going into the book I didn鈥檛 know if it would have much romance, however I figured it would after reading Fable. Adrienne Young has a way of creating an interesting plot, amazing world building, well written action, and then adding in romance to the story, that does not take away from the storyline, but instead enhances it. Which is my favorite kinda of romance. And I can鈥檛 forget it鈥檚 also an enemies to lovers trope. I know that is everyone鈥檚 favorite kind.

The pace of the book was perfect. I also enjoyed that it is a standalone book. To create the world and characters she did, then wrap everything up in an average sized book, brilliant!

For specific scenes, I enjoyed reading about the Viking culture. My favorite was when they braided each other鈥檚 hair and when they put coal around their eyes. The scenes of getting ready for battle really showed the heart of this book and it鈥檚 characters.

As soon as I finished this book, I felt the urge to read it all over again. It was an emotional ride and I cried several times, I felt everything Eelyn was feeling, I felt everything everyone was feeling, which is impressive for a book written in first person. We only know Eelyn鈥檚 true thoughts, but in how this book was written we understood everyone鈥檚. To see the culture from the inside of Eelyn鈥檚 mind and as a reader who is an outsider to the culture. The internal conflict that happened with every character was deep and heartbreaking. This book was raw, the emotions were raw, the love was raw.

I didn鈥檛 except to love this book, in fact I only listened to the audio because it was the only book available at the library that looked of interest. And I had just read Adrienne Young鈥檚 Fable series. So, I figured I鈥檇 give this a try鈥�. And I am shook.
